Friday night in downtown Edmonds. Hard to find parking but finally did. Haven't been here in a while. Glad we stopped in. Only 2 tables available. We lucked out and got a booth! I ordered the 2 chicken enchiladas. Husband ordered the veggie enchiladas. I must have been really hungry because I cleaned my plate. I have to say the chicken was a bit dry, and I could have eaten more refried beans. However, I liked my meal. No real complaints. Husband enjoyed his meal too. I rate the Mexican restaurants by their frijoles. Veggie enchiladas gets served with whole or black beans. There's a place for those. Just not when I go out for a meal. At least in my opinion. Walked around Edmonds downtown, which is a pretty cool place with lots of restaurants. Finally, we decided on Safe Fe. Sat in the bar area along the windows so I could people watch outside. Lots of to go orders! The sign outside with the rib-eye fajitas is what got us in the door, but with so many options ended up with the Mat Y Tierra. The carne asada was grilled perfectly, not over done which is easy to do. There were 4-5 large shrimp with mushrooms in a white wine sauce. Lots of beans and rice along with the tortillas. The server recommended the Oaxaca Old Fashioned and by far this is my new favorite version. Made with mescal, it was very smooth and the flavor was not over powering. Pretty good Americanized Mexican food. My family comes here a lot so I'm turned I've been here a few times. The waiters are always nice and the food is always good, just a little off or delivered at different times. I appreciate the separate vegan and vegetarian section which has plenty of options. I personally prefer fajitas so that's always what I order. Their veggie fajitas comes with broccoli, carrots and mushrooms so I always ask for no mushroom and more peppers, less broccoli and carrots. The menu says it comes with beans, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo and guacamole. I asked for no rice but extra beans, which they did get the no rice correct, just not extra beans. Food: 5/5 To start you off, their tortillas and salsa are both excellent. Tortillas are cut thin and so crunchy, not too salty just enough and the salsa as well-it simple and perfectly seasoned. We had a couple of drinks: I had the spicy mango margarita and it was delicious as well. It had just enough alcohol to make me smile and it was a huge serving. The other, husband had the Old school Oaxacan cocktail-also very nice. I recommend both cocktails and we were told they are both popular here. I ordered the Carne asada taco plate and omg, it was huge. It's as wide as my hips. Kidd you not. I could barely lift the plate. Anyway, it is also5/5. Packed with flavors and SO tender. I wish they gave more meat tho. Then, husband ordered their carne asada burrito for take out. All in all, it was all good. Staff is very nice and attentive. They made sure we were having a nice time and experience trying their food for the very first time. Reasonable menu and the ambiance was in the dark side but it works out. After hosting an event nearby, my boyfriend and I were in need of lunch. We were craving Mexican and so I made him look for spots on Yelp (he's learning, but at least he's got the app downloaded now). He picked out Santa Fe! It was a Sunday afternoon and we were seated pretty quickly. Service was attentive and quick, which is always nice. The inside is nice, and a great spot to go with family, friends, or on a date! We looked over the menu and it took us forever to decide because they have so many options that ALL sound good! My boyfriend ended up going with the Al Pastor Tacos and I went with the Burrito Chile Verde. The burrito was good, but not the best I've had. I mean, I knew it came with the Chile Verde but it was pretty overwhelming. Their guacamole was really good and the chunks of pork in the burrito were great - very tender and lots of flavor! We also each got their special margarita, which was a Guava flavor. We ordered them double, because I mean, why not? That said, they didn't taste like there was much of anything in it besides juice - they were decent, but come on - we ordered doubles! ;) I'm not ready to rave about Santa Fe, but it wasn't a terrible experience. It was a nice surprise to find the burrito had just the chicken and nothing else. The chicken meat wasn't dry and tasted good, it was filling with all that chicken. Had an order of huevos rancheros. They were good, it seems the dish is always a little different from place to place, it wasn't one of the best. The last dish was an enchilada and tamale. Not our first time here, absolutely regulars stopped by for a delicious dinner and strawberry margaritas with the hubby and friend. Service is always great & friendly tonight I had Enchilada Verde with shrimp refried pinto beans (the best) and Spanish rice. Huge servings! It was really good! We stopped in and decided to sit out in the covered area they have put up for outside dining. They have the heaters if it's a bit chilly. Pleasant waiter and food came really fast. This is Mexican food for people who also think Taco Bell and Chipotle are Mexican food. Everything is weirdly sweet and the music is so loud you have to yell to whoever you're talking to (& I have good hearing!). The chips aren't seasoned, the salsa is extremely watery and sweet, the enchilada sauce is straight up Campbell's tomato soup, and even the guacamole has sugar in it! Who made this menu?! The service was meh. Waitress was quick to take our order and the entrees came out fairly quickly, but the guacamole we ordered as an appetizer came out a few minutes after our entrees. We had a revolving door of different people topping off water constantly, but nobody asked how the food was or if we needed anything and we had to flag down someone to get the bills and boxes. Also, someone at my table asked for mild salsa and was brought a salsa twice as spicy as the one we already had. 2 stars because the portion sizes are decent and the restaurant itself is nice but I would not go back here by choice - especially at $20 for two beef enchiladas with rice & beans. read more
