Figured it was a local dive bar but really didn't know what to expect. Everyone was really nice. The bartender was friendly and the local who came in around the same time as us was also very friendly. We also happened to come in during happy hour so our round of 4 beers was super cheap! We played some pool, hung out and made it back to the airport for the second pickup all very efficiently. Looking at the other reviews it looks like it can get really lively other parts of the day. If you are looking for a dive bar or roadhouse, this is a solid option.

The restaurant itself has very little seating, but the waiters also roam the pool area taking and delivering orders. The misting fans at the bar area are nice. The "pina colava" drink (pina colada mixed with strawberry something) is completely delicious but seemed to contain very little alcohol, especially for its $9 price tag (still making it one of the cheaper drinks on the menu). Pass on the margarita-pina colada drink, which we tried for novelty's sake...there's a reason you don't see drinks like this on more menus. The brisket nachos come with a meager amount of brisket that's chopped into weird little cubes. The waiter raved about this dish, saying that all the brisket is smoked on-site, and it does have a great smoky flavor. Just wish there had been more substance to these nachos. They have a salad with iceberg lettuce, avocado, cheese, and bacon to which you can add grilled chicken, making it about $15, I believe. The grilled chicken was great, and the "balsamic" dressing was tasty though not really balsamic. A decent poolside salad, especially with the addition of the chicken, but nothing to write home about. Without the chicken, it would have been a pretty sad salad. Sweet potato fries are standard and tasty, but skip their regular fries unless you like bland, mushy, skinless fries -- they're targeting kids with those, not adult fry eaters. At $6, the fry basket was probably the largest quantity for the cost. It would be nice if they served the ketchup in little cups rather than packets, which left me squirting ketchup onto a napkin for lack of anywhere else to put it. The waiters are incredibly friendly and helpful, but service was really slow no matter where we ordered and sat (at the bar, at the tables, and by the pool). Drinks were often half-melted by the time they reached us at the pool. Tip is automatically included, and a pretty basic meal for two with drinks can quickly go into three figures. They know you're a captive audience at the pool (and at Lost Pines in general).

I started my meal with the Seared Scallops, which were perfectly prepared and tasted amazing. The entire plate was a work of art and since I enjoy a well plated meal first, this one hit right on the money. For my main I enjoyed the South Texas Antelope Tenderloin. Any chance I have to sample a local dish I take it and this one delivered massively. I highly recommend trying this dish if you visit. I also had the chance to try the Seared Ahi Tuna, as our mains were taking a bit longer than expected and the chef personally delivered us a couple apology dishes. I appreciate a chef who can acknowledge an issue and do his best to fix it, so this was nice to see. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly and took great care of me and my party. Seeing the chef come out to the table to speak to us was a big deal to me. All in all I was very happy with my visit here and will certainly return if I ever get the chance to stay here again. This is probably the first restaurant I've ever seen that literally has a car wash connected to it. Once inside you'll find an ATM, gambling machines, and a check cashing station. In other words, there seems to be a lot going on here besides being a restaurant. There's about 10 tables inside and four more outside. The only thing missing are some gas pumps. This place has all the ambience of a convenience store dining experience. The tables are rickety, the paint on the floor is well worn away, and the ceiling tiles are stained. The menus are in Spanish (no english) and there is no complementary chips and salsa here. We were able to order in English, but clearly this is geared towards Mexican customers primarily. They do have some frescas along with some Mexican beer, but nothing in the way of craft beer. We ordered the beef quesadilla and beef sope. The cubed meat on both our dishes was way overcooked, tough, bordering on inedible and "questionable". Even the greasy silverware did not appear very clean and even had some rust spots on the knife. The service was OK, but nothing special. I discovered after I paid at the counter where I included a tip, an additional tip had already been added without my knowledge. I will not risk dining at their other locations based on this experience. I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but in reality I should've kept on going down the road.
