It was spicy, tart, slightly sweet, just enough salt, and oh so refreshing. Perfection on our taste buds. We also ordered the nam khao and it was also DELICIOUS!! I have a soft spot for good nam khao. Sap Sap's was fresh with a sensational taste and texture. It's sweet, tart, salty, crispy with lots of fresh herbs and lettuce to wrap it all in. My friend and I both ordered it to-go so we can eat it later at home. By the way, the staff asked me if my dog was a service animal and I answered yes. She seated us right away. Everything we ordered was fabulous: drunken noodles, pad see ew, Lao sausage, a seafood salad, and the only thing I managed to take picture of; a cup of tom khai kai soup. The soup took a little bit of time to be delivered (it came out after the entrees) and the owner (who was also the server!) was so kind to offer it to us on the house for the trouble. No trouble at all really; I would have waited longer for this! I have ordered tom kha at lots of Thai restaurants, but this was better than every one of them. My wife and I found this restaurant on Yelp while visiting Sarasota and she insisted that we make the drive to give it a try. When your wife knows what she wants to eat (which isn't often...lol) then you'd better listen! I've been eating homemade Lao food for the past 20 years thanks to my wife and her family. Although we live in ATL and we have a few Lao spots in the city, we both agreed that this might be the best Lao restaurant we've ever eaten at. It's a small, intimate spot but this place deserves all of the praise and recognition. We ordered a little of everything including Thum Mak Hoon (Papaya salad) and Laap chicken, my favorite (Lad Na). For someone who has eaten here at least 6 times, you'd think I would have taken a photo. My favorite Laos restaurant! It may sound simple but my favorite dish is the chicken skewers with the peanut sauce. They make their peanut sauce and that alone is completely worth it. My other favorite dish is Pad Woon Sen. This place has 6-7 tables but I have never had trouble getting a table. This place is a hidden gem. read more

Ok to start, absolutely everything that I've had on their menu is truly exceptional and delicious. I've been twice now and they've absolutely blown me away both times. Some highlights for me were the pad Thai, lettuce wraps (Nam Khao), and Thai tea. The one thing you should know before you go is that it's almost a guarantee that they will be out of something that someone in your party wanted to order. Every time I've been, they have a board at the front with an entire list of things that aren't currently available. I can understand that everything is house made, but it definitely sucks when you've been looking forward to ordering something and you can't get it. Great cozy spot, I recommend the Pad Thai and the Laos Sausage. I would just avoid that pork belly in it. If you're not a fan of pork belly in general, you're not missing out. Only reason why I reduced it down to 4 stars is just because maybe I got a bad batch. It was just the hardest pork belly I've ever chewed on. Then I realized a $10 Pad Thai dish isn't going to have the best pork belly. Shame on me for thinking it would be worth a try. Delicious first time experience! We arrived promptly when they opened at noon but it took about 10 mins before they actually opened up. Within 15 mins the whole place was pretty much packed. The establishment isn't too big so you might have to wait to get a table if you arrive a little later. My wife who is Lao said the food was delicious as well! We ordered the ribs, wings, papaya salad, sakoo yat sai, and the Lao sausage with sticky rice. I would honestly get everything again plus more off the menu. We were visiting from up North and stopped by this new Laotian spot with my cousins who stated they wanted to try out this new Lao cafe that just opened up near them...we seen hella good reviews and some that were ehhhhhh...but let me tell you we definitely were not disappointed! Pictured: We ordered pad kee mao (drunken noodles) khao poon, lad na, coconut mango sticky, and their infamous FingaLickinGood cajun style fries. Not pictured: we ordered shrimp in a blanket, crab rangoon, crab fried rice, panang curry We decided to order as much as we could off the menu to share everything. We didnt order other staple items like the thum mak hoong (papaya salad) or any of the laap dishes etc, because at that time we just weren't craving for it. First offfff, the owners and workers were soooo nice honestly felt like they were family the way they treat their customers. All of the dishes we ordered were of great portion size. I honestly love how on their menu they try to spell each dish. For example: thum mak hoong, they couldve easily said "papaya salad" but they truly try to stick to the roots. I seen a review where someone stated along the lines of simplifying the menu because it can be hard for Americans to say the Lao food names and that it can be easily mixed up. Personally I think the restaurant is doing their best on that. You can't try to be authentic if you arent showing customers how to say or pronounce it? How will customers learn if they arent showing it on the menu? Now onto the food..i've had pad kee mao from other Lao, Thai restaurants AND EVEN Lao parties. Let me telllll u that pad kee mao was slappppp! It was the perfect amount of spice and flavor. You can even ask them for crushed chili peppers if you want to up the spice level. The lad na was also good too. One thing that really stood out to us were the noodles! They were thick and not thin. I don't know if it's a up north thing or where we are from. Butttt the spots we have where i'm from they use thick noodles. Last time we visited FL we went to a Thai spot and their noodles were thin and dish was NOT good, no offense. So we were happy that they had noodles like back at home. My cousin wanted to try the Khao Poon she states her mom makes one of the best so she wanted to see how Sap Sap's would taste. Final verdict? She said it was goooood!  Could be a bit more spicy, but she knows that not everyone can handle spice. So she understands why the restaurant didn't make it as spicy. She said she saw a review that someone said it tasted sweet? According to her it wasnt sweet at all! So that was a plus! We all loved their infamous cajun style fries..that sauce was hellllla goood. Also a good amount of shrimp. If we ever get a chance to visit Florida again, I will definitely come back and also tell all the Lao older folks to go visit!
