Amazing even for takeout. I'm going to rank the dishes in the order that I enjoyed them. 1. Crying Tiger. This is grilled marinated Ny sirloin strip served with Laotian sticky rice, pickled daikon and carrots. 10/10. The meat was so exceptionally tender, even reheated the next day. I loved the sticky rice. My youngest son loved it too, so it was a huge winner. 2. Crispy Volcano Chicken. I really enjoyed this as well. It has the outside that reminds me of orange chicken. 3. Green Papaya Salad. I'm a huge papaya salad fan and this one really hit the spot. I'm the only one in my family who eats it, but I feel healthy when I do and it's delicious. 4. Fried chicken wings - they were plump and the entire family enjoyed this. The two dishes that were good, but I'd skip next time are the chicken satay (this sat around in our fridge for a while) and the black dragon roll which was good, but I think their non sushi dishes really shine. It said the food would be ready in 30 minutes (we ordered online) and when we picked up about 30 minutes later it was ready. It's super easy to park since it's a large parking lot and run in and out. Very solid place for Thai and Lao food in the Westchase area! The inside of the restaurant is decently big, with lots of space for a good sized party. I ordered food to go and they had in ready in about 20 minutes, which is excellent. I got the Khao Soi and definitely enjoyed the flavors. Love the mix of a curry based soup, with tender pieces of short rib, and the crunch of the fried egg noodles. The inclusion of the pickled vegetables helps to cut through the richness. I do wish the red onions were cut just a little smaller, but overall, still an excellent dish and a great restaurant that I will be coming back to :) read more

Our family of four visited this local gem on a Friday evening and was seated immediately. Trinity was waitress was very patient answering all of our inquires with enthusiasm and made recommendation. We started with Salt & pepper calamari, very well seasoned no sauce required. Our table ordered the California roll, the Crunchy roll, Pineapple fried rice w/ seafood melody and Crispy duck. We all and traded entrees. My husband did not like the sake however this was his first time having it ever so no stars subtracted for that. He followed up with a beer which left me to drive so I cannot say if the sake was good or not. During our 90 minute visit we noticed numerous locals and obvious repeat customers which is a good sign that the restaurant consistently provides good service. The chef came out and spoke to us and asked how did we enjoy our food. Not even did my very picky nine year old have any complaints, that's a win! I've lived in this area for 7 years, I don't know how I haven't visited Rice & Spice until recently, but I've definitely been missing out. We've dined in and we've ordered out because we just can't get enough. We usually order the spicy tuna rice cakes (highly recommend - they're always 10/10 delicious), we usually mix it up and order a variety of different rolls as well - and we've NEVER had a roll we didn't like here. Everything is put together so well and the fish is always so fresh. The restaurant itself is very cute - it isn't a huge establishment, but it still fits plenty of people without feeling crowded or jam-packed inside. I want to highlight the service, because even though the food is a complete winner here - the service really sets Rice and Spice apart from every other "really good" sushi spot in the area. I've never had anything less than excellent service here. They are friendly and attentive and make you feel like you're a regular there even if it's your first visit. I had the double impact roll which contained shrimp tempura, avocado, and asparagus, half-topped with tuna and the other half with imitation crab. The roll was fine, fish was of medium quality, a little pricy. Everyone was super friendly, probably 5 employees came to speak with us, and it was clear that they have many regulars. We started our evening with the spicy tuna rice cakes. They were so unique and my favorite part of the meal. The rice squares seemed deep fried so they were crunchy on the outside with tender rice inside. It was topped with minced tuna and a slice of jalapeño. For our rolls, we tried the Red Dragon, Black Dragon, and Tokyo Red Light. Black dragon was our favorite because of the sweetness of the eel. The other two were subpar. We were greeted promptly by our server when we arrived, then, after we were given menus, a gentleman came out of the kitchen (head chef maybe?) asking if we were new here and he provided suggestions and insights to his food. He recommended the salt and pepper calamari (Hubster's favorite), the tipsy noodles (another favorite), and I went with the moo peeng (pork skewers) and gai yarng (bbq chicken). He explained that he leans heavily on Laotian flavor influences which "are similar to Thai, only less creamy and less coconut-y". Chopsticks are already on the table, but we were brought silverware with the appetizers. Hubster loved the calamari and I loved the pork skewers. The calamari were lighter, not as heavily battered, and delicious. The pork was delicious with a hint of lemon. I wonder if there is a way to get this as a main course? Maybe next time I will just order 2 or 3 appetizers and call it a meal. Next, out came the tipsy noodles and BBQ chicken. Once again, top notch delicious! My chicken was perfectly sauced and spiced. It did come still on the bone, and I, personally, find bone-in chicken very awkward to eat, so, as delicious as it was, I will not be ordering it again. Dessert was mango sticky rice to share. Ok. So dessert sticky rice is my weakness. I can't stop ordering it any time I see it on the menu. And this one was wonderful! True to the owner's word, it was less creamy and less coconut-y than its Thai cousin, but still...and, to be brutally honest, I really am not a fan of mango, but next time we come, 3 orders of pork skewers and an order of mango sticky rice. The food was great and I'll definitely will be coming back! There was 2 of us and we went on a Friday around 7:30pm and there was no wait for a table. Our server was attentive and friendly. Hamachi Kama was the star for sure. I don't like fried fish or anything with heavy breading and this was perfect. The crispy duck was good lightly breaded and crisp. The sauce was delicious as well. We also ordered the Khao Soi, we didn't like the noodles it came with, it was weird, not sure how to describe it, but the short rib was good with sauce on top. Finally stopped in to Rice and Spice after driving by it every day on my way home. Once I saw their amazing reviews, I made it a priority to try it!! The restaurant is located in a very unassuming strip mall, but don't let that fool you. The inside is warm and inviting with comfortable dining chairs and bar seating available. Our server was so friendly and accommodating! We started with the Thom Kha Gai soup, but requested two smaller bowls so we could share it. The soup was so flavorful! For dinner, we had the yellow curry and the tipsy noodles. One of us went very spicy and one went medium - both were very good! Not overdone and lots of flavor. The chef even came out to check on us and ask how our meals were. Our server recommended that we come back for sushi because that is what they are known for! We started Moo Peeng - grilled pork skew. This order come with 6 skews. The skew was grilled perfectly with good marinated sauce. The second dish is the hamachi Kama. It is hamachi's collar with plenty of meat. Fish is freshly made. Our last dish is the crying tiger. This is NY cut steak with sticky rice. The steak well cook with pink in the middle. We've had this place bookmarked for years but didn't get a chance to come. We came because a friend from LA recommended their sushi. We didn't end up getting any of the sushi because we realized it had a lot of Thai dishes and I love Thai- more than sushi. I definitely didn't regret not getting any sushi because their Thai food was sooo good. We got the curry chicken satay which were so moist and flavorful. The peanut sauce was delicious. We also got beef pad see ew, chicken panang curry, chicken house fried rice, and the volcano chicken--which reminded me of Tang gear and spicier version of Chinese orange chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious and we thought we would be leaving with leftovers and we basically ate everything cause it was so good. The staff was nice and welcoming.
