Great food and service. So happy for the owners, as I knew them from a previous restaurant that they worked at.

It's shawarma and the authentic taste of what comes together in an explosion of taste and flavor is undoubtedly delicious when you walk into the shawarma king your nose signals to the brain to get your taste buds ready if you're not already salivating over the smell. But once you've taken a bite you'll definitely come back for more and you will not be disappointed i have told plenty of foodies that are looking for something different besides the typical burger and pizza, so give shawarma king and your taste buds will appreciate it

4 Stars for Shawarma King in Gurnee…read more This is a pretty convenient location and directly across the street from Six Flags Great America, and also close to the 294 highway. The food I had was pretty tasty, I got to try the chicken and beef shawarma plate - very expensive but very tasty, big portion enough for 2 meals. I also tried the beef kifta kabob wrap with a side of falafel- delicious! They threw in an extra falafel as well, thanks! There is also plenty of seating inside if you want to dine in. My only negatives are they do not give free cups of water, you have to buy a bottle if you want a drink. And they only include one tiny cup of hot sauce with your order. Overall, it was a good experience, if you want Mediterranean and you're in Gurnee it's not a bad choice.

While I consider myself a foodie, I had little interest in driving around the Waukegan area the night I visited Anastasia's. At first it appeared to be a great choice--myriad people in the bar area talking, eating, and reacting to the televised game. I ordered a glass of wine to start; the pour was rather skimpy. Tempted to order another, I realized a single glass was on the border of my daily alcohol per diem?! I decided to forgo the pizza special for wings and cheese curds. The resulting dishes provided a healthy amount (see picture), however, taste (as other Yelpers note) was average. When you rack up $55 for cheese curds, wings, and a glass of wine, AND you leave feeling 'meh'--for me, Anastasia's is an easy, "Well, I tried it..." experience. I think my next two visits for work will be branching out to the surrounding area for alternative dinner options.

When I arrived at the window we were met by Maria who was absolutely nice and helpful, not to mention, patient. We asked what they offer and she provided some options. Both were the "Big" size that was enough to eat half right away and save the other half for lunch the next day. The food was served fast and both were very flavorful. Served with a smile. We will certainly be returning. We did sit in the car, in the rain and enjoy our sandwiches. My meatball sub was hot (in temperature) and fresh and his was hot (in spices) and fresh. My goodness that kind of spicy hot is hard for me to handle. WOW! Great experience all around!

I chose the "spuds" (twice baked potatoes), and southwest chicken & avocado salad. -The salad was not great--avocado was a bit mushy, the chile lime vinaigrette wasn't the best either. -The spuds were not what I normally think of as twice baked potatoes. The inside was more like mashed potatoes with gravy. I would not order this again. -It's a shame because the service was really good and friendly. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend.

The turnaround from order to table was pretty quick...and we found out why. The one positive thing about their Rueben is that it was LOADED with corned beef...albeit room temperature and even pockets that were cold. The bread was only toasted; the sandwich is typically grilled. There was hardly any sauerkraut and the 1000 Island dressing was weird (tasted like there was some horseradish in it?), This is near Gurnee Mills so there is a dearth of other, better fast food options. Would maybe go again and try a different menu item...but with so many other options, it would be a last option (aka- everyplace else is closed so not likely). Very disappointing.
