I eat at this place 1-3 times a week. There is one particular server that is fantastic. He knows me, always offering the usual stuff I order. Today, I had to get my lunch to go. My regular guy was not there. My roll was wrong, my extra ginger was missing and my soy sauce was basically non existent. Great food, but its sad when you only feel confident with one person. Came for hibachi for my birthday. Everything was on point! Service was impeccable and food was delicious. We loved the hibachi chef's personality and the show he put on. The meal prices are sort of expensive, but there are such ample portions you can eat your leftovers for a full meal the next day, and that helps the price even out. I eat here often and loved the place. I went recently with my family and so totally disappointed. I got lobster and filet steak ad my daughter got filet on the grill. we both got lots of rice, I got maybe half cup of vegetables that was not cooked very well with mostly onions. We also only got MAYBE half cup of steak. There was no seasoning put on anything but rice. I also got lobster which was so overcooked I couldn't eat. Now there was 8 of us, two didn't get any vegetables but they also complained to me about portion size of the salmon that was given. I left still hungry and I have never felt that way after eating there. Great Japanese cuisine in Georgetown! I ordered chicken teriyaki which came with miso soup, salad, and white rice. Portions were very large and I had plenty to take home to eat for lunch the next day. Make sure to ask for the delicious yum yum sauce to add to your entree. This is a hidden treasure in Georgetown. Location isn't easily accessible in the back of the WalMart complex. But the atmosphere is great. They have a bar, a sushi bar, table seating, or hibachi. Service has been excellent and very friendly each time I've been (3x). Parking is convenient. Menu has lots of options. Food is delicious Japanese cuisine and portions are large. Be sure to try the Yum Yum sauce. Amazing. This place is a worthwhile dinner out. Georgetown needs more variety like Sapporo! read more

We were excited about the inexpensive lunch sushi prices. I ordered 2 rolls and my husband ordered a sashimi lunch. The shumai, salad, and soup were good. The sushi and sashimi were terrible. We aren't sushi experts, but do eat it regularly. This was legitimately the worst sushi we've ever experienced. There was little to no flavor, and what flavor was there was bad. One of my favorite restaurants in town. The food is good, and the prices are decent for the style of restaurant it is. The sushi is very well done if you're someone who likes that sort of stuff. The wait staff is very friendly and professional, helping me figure out what best to order (I'm very indecisive when ordering food at nice restaurants.) and offering just the right amount of conversation to where it feels welcome and personable but not to where someone like me who is very quiet would feel uncomfortable. My only real complaint is that the dressing on the salad was very lacking in flavor and seemed to me as a watered down version of what's normally used at hibachi restaurants. Well this was a surprise! I was told that there was no decent sushi to be found in the Lexington area and here we are...damn decent sushi for a really reasonable price! We found this place totally by mistake. After a day with some out of town friends who were showing at the horse park we headed back towards their hotel to look for a Ruby Tuesdays.....and of course they got lost. So we ended up at this random steakhouse. So okay we figured we'd try it. We just got sushi bar service instead of hibachi and damn....goooood freakin sushi. Now it wasn't LA/NYC/Vegas/whateverotherfancypantscity quality, but it was pretty close. And average 3-5 bucks for rolls...pretty damn cheap. Service was efficient and good. Sapporo has been one of our favorite places to eat since it opened in Georgetown. We've usually gone several times a year, for lunch and dinner on various days and times of the week. I've been noticing little things over the last couple of years to indicate this place was sliding. Restroom often unkempt. Service lacking. The chef interaction was hit or miss. Food quality also hit or miss. Portions went down, and were not always consistent, but prices went up. Last night was the nail in the coffin for me. We went as a party of 6, and stood waiting to be seated without acknowledgment of our presence by any staff members for about 7 minutes, altho it was not very busy. I used this chance to go ahead and use the ladies' room. The women's restroom was atrocious! There was an overpowering smell of urine, two stalls were 'out of order', and the trashcan was overflowing. The only stall available had the latch completely missing, and there was nowhere to hang my purse. I had to juggle my purse, at one point having to hold it in my mouth by the straps, to avoid putting it on the nasty floor. Honestly, even in the seediest of gas station bathrooms have a I never encountered the stale stench that I did this night in Sapporo's bathroom. The toilet paper was near empty. The soap dispenser was broken. Toilet brush was lying underneath the sink on the floor. It was clear this bathroom had not been attended to in some time. When I emerged from the restroom and joined my group still waiting for acknowledgement, I looked around and noticed at least 2 staff members staring at their phones. Finally, we were seated. The girl serving us was nice enough, but rather inattentive. She took awhile to bring things out, would disappear throughout the meal with our cups to refill and take her precious time bringing it back. The salad dressing has changed. It tasted....watered down? I was not impressed much. The hibachi chef was good, and interactive. He did a pretty good job, and the food tasted good. It was hard for me to enjoy, because I was constantly wondering about the sanitary conditions of the restaurant in general, given the horrid state of the restroom. The server girl was done with us after she brought the bill. It was as if we didn't exist any longer, except t collect the bill. No more refills or checking on us, altho we were still eating and several of us had empty glasses. Over the last couple of years, as this kind of stuff was noticed by me, I would write it off as maybe they had a super busy day, or we were in on an odd day of being short staffed. I can not say that any longer. This place has certainly changed, and not for the better. I will not go back to Sapporo in Georgetown again. If I want Hibachi, I will got to Lexington, or wait until I am visiting family in Louisville. This is such a shame, too, because this restaurant used to be really good. read more

We met friends for dinner tonight at Sapporo in Georgetown. We were seated right away, and our hibachi chef Johnny came to the table. He was very personable, had a great sense of humor, and his performance at the grill was fabulous. My husband and I shared an entree, which was an up charge, and well worth it. There was no way we would have been able to eat all of that food. We started with an appetizer , which was delicious. We each received a salad and soup as part of our meal, along with fried rice, vegetables and we chose shrimp& scallops as our protein to share. We visited before going to the local theater in the area. My boyfriend had been before and spoke highly of it. I've been to a few Japanese/sushi places in Lexington and have unfortunately been underwhelmed so I wasn't getting my hopes up. We sat at the hibachi table since he wanted hibachi food and I ordered sushi. The entertainment was very similar to other hibachi style restaurants I've been to. My only complaint is my sushi came out not long after "the show" started so I was already finished eating before my boyfriend even started his. He let me sample some of his food. This used to be one of the places that we liked to go every time we visited Georgetown. But lately this place hasn't filled our expectations. We have had the same cook this past couple of times, and he has not been friendly at all. A dry greeting, and no show. No onion with the volcano, not tricks when preparing the eggs, no one catching the food in the mouth. He just shows up, cooks, messes the orders, and this time he had both griddles going on, cooking for both tables at the same time, just he end up burning some of the food. The location is great, but we have not been impressed as of late. The first time we thought he was just having an off day, but it looks like it's not the case. I've been eating here since 2010 back when I worked at Sun Tan City and it has never disappointed me, not once! You cannot beat the lunch menu and it's prices. Less than $10 for hibachi for lunch (I always get chicken). The sushi is amazing, there's been several nights coming home late from work that I'll preorder a couple rolls (spicy crabmeat and California are my favorites from here).
