This place was ok considering it's Chinese owned and in the middle of the country where access to fresh fish is likely questionable. I opted for the box steak teriyaki Bento dinner . Surprisingly it was OK as far as Americanized Japanese food goes. I just wish they serve some dipping sauce for the tempura. Rated at a 3.5 stars. We wanted some "normal" food as opposed to the "road" fast food we have been sampling often during our road trip. This restaurant was near our hotel and looked like a nice change. As we walked to the restaurant, we noticed it was attached to a hotel which was shut down and appeared to be going through total restoration. We began to get concerned as to what it may be like inside. We were pleasantly surprised that it was nice and unaffected by all that was going on around it. The staff was very nice and we were seated right away. We came in for an early dinner (around 4:30pm) and it was pretty empty. We ordered some gyoza for appetizer which was good. For dinner, we each got hibachi. One steak with shrimp and the other steak with scallops. Both were good portions but we both thought they needed a little more kick of flavoring. The yum yum sauce helped Kim's and I put the extra gyoza sauce on mine which worked very well. Besides that everything was good. Having Sapporo beer on tap also was a plus. We just moved to the area as refugees from California, and are trying out new places. Japanese food is known to be amazing in California, and we were really worried about finding any here. So we stopped in tonight and were very pleasantly surprised that everything we tried was really, really good! I ordered the veg & shrimp tempura and hubs had shrimp teriyaki. Then I ordered two rolls, the Packer and the Crazy. WOW. Tempura was hot and fresh, not greasy- just right. The rolls were yummy, as was hubs shrimp. Service was fast. Muni's one star because they were super stingy about napkins and a side of teriyaki sauce, but that seems to be the norm for Asian fare I've found. Ok, so years back I reviewed this establishment and gave it a rave review. I did that because at the time, they totally deserved the accolades. Things have changed. Years back there was a manager there named Aaron, and he kept the place working like a well oiled machine and demanded high quality from the kitchen. Since his departure it has been nothing but downhill and corner cutting. And it's done in such a way that it's borderline insulting to the customers. Allow me to explain. Idk if it's that they think Americans don't know much about Japanese cuisine or if they simply don't care, but allow me to give you an example: The have a tonkutso ramen on the menu. I ordered it and got a bowl of mostly WTF ingredients. Instead of cabbage or a dark leafy green they put iceberg lettuce in it? Ramen typically comes with a sliced soft boiled egg that is tea colored from marinating in a soy sauce mixture. I was given a fully cooked sloppy fried egg that had no marination. Just a lump of overcooked egg. Another issue is portion sizing with sashimi. I have pics of previously platters we've gotten there and after a recent trip and looking back at some of those pics, it's painfully obvious that what was once a single slice of sashimi is now 2 pieces. They halved the portion of what was already a single bite of raw fish. Service is also on/off there. On our last trip we asked if we could wait till our apps were out before ordering entree's, they said no problem. Our apps came but the waiter asked us to give him a moment and disappeared. Fine. We finished our apps and waited at a table for 15min after before another waitress asked us if we were ok and took our order. read more

Service was ok. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant. As for the food. The ONLY thing I would MAYBE consider going back for is the specialty sushi. The miso soup they gave us tasted like dirty water, the katsu was overcooked and made out of chicken breast instead of thighs. I asked for a sushi combination platter, and they gave me sashimi. On top of that, my husbands teriyaki chicken was gross. They served it on a bed of onion, and it tasted fishy. He dislikes fish and onions , and the only reason we went here was because he was trying to appease my love of sushi. It was just a big disappointment. Went during lunch and it was amazing. Our favorite was the Sex on the Beach roll. It had an amazing flavor, the different combinations of seafood blend beautifully. The eel sauce was very unique, it had a hint of smoky flavor to it. We also had miso soup, it was amazing as well, it had a lot of flavor to it. I ordered Sashimi and steak hibachi. Dine in. Multiple issues with this restaurant, I tried voicing my feedback to the manager on duty, and she laughed in my face. I wasn't planning on posting online, but after that, I left livid. For starters, the guy who delivered my sashimi threw the plate on my table. Secondly all of my food arrived before I could even finish my salad, didn't get an opportunity to start my soup before everything was on my table, so it felt like they were rushing me to get out of there. Additionally, my steak was not med rare like I ordered, but well done. Thirdly, my original waitress was not the server that finished my experience. Small but a little detail that took me aback. And of course, the cherry on top was the manager laughing in my face before I could share all of this info with her. read more

Came here to grab sushi on a Sunday night while passing through town. I first ordered sake which was nice and hot when I got it. Then I ordered salmon avocado rolls and a shrimp cucumber roll. The sushi is well made, a good size, and has great taste. They even had gluten free soy sauce! I love this place already! The service was amazing and the waitress was very attentive to me. We are traveling throughout Wyoming and saw that this place had 5 stars so we thought we would eat here! Unfortunately this place was not good at all. First off the host who was seating us was rude, we started out with one server who took our drinks and then all the sudden we had a new one who literally wouldn't get off her phone. We had to ask the guy bussing tables to help us. Once the food came out it seemed like it was frozen and then served and it was so soggy and gross. Don't go there. read more

Expansive interior with some flashy decor, but taking a closer look beyond the polished atmosphere reveals some inconsistencies that really ruined our experience at Sapporo. Firstly, they're understaffed. As mentioned, the space is expansive, but there were only 4 waitresses for the entire restaurant on a weekend night, and they were all doubling as hostesses. This issue led to other issues, such as the slow service and the fact that they forgot that our meals included soup and salad until we pointed it out. I can't say for sure, but the impression I got was that the understaffing was just a reflection of the management's willingness to cut corners. The food is standard Japanese fare, tasty but nothing exceptional. It's a bit pricey for what it is. Overall, we were satisfied with the food but the service left a bad taste in our mouths. read more

The restaurant was a decent size and didn't smell fishy and the restrooms were nice and clean. They also had gluten free soy sauce! Great food but the staff are incredibly rude. Not only do they act like serving you is an inconvenience to them, they continuously ignore you until they feel the drive to help answer questions or the like. Normally I like to tip well even if service sucks and every time I have tried to tip more than 25%. The last time I ended up ordering their food to go, I noticed that they already charge a 20% tip no matter the order or party size! Ridiculous!! read more

We went to this restaurant on 5/2/24 for dinner. The waitress who wore white shirt with light blue long sleeves, came toward us. I told her we had two people. She told us wait, and went to the white people who came to restaurant later than us. She directed them to table first. We felt shocked. When she came back, I asked her we came here first, why she gave white people table first? She said because we were talking when she came. I said even though we were talking, we still had the right to have table first. She ignored us and walked away. When she came back again, we asked her, now, it was our turn to have a table. She said "I am not going to take you to the table!", then, she took white people who came much later than us to table again! WTF! What the mean manner I have ever met! The other waitress felt sorry for us, then she took us to table (Thank God! At lease there was someone reasonable). I tried to talk to this restaurant's manager, but they all told me manager was on vacation on that date. How could this waitress treat people differently just because we are not white? For starters, the staff were really friendly and kind, and we were seated immediately. Beautiful sushi bar/area immaculately set and prepared, and the overall room was comfortable. We chose the hibachi instead of the table, and were rewarded with a nice chef that was talkative and enjoyable to be around, not to mention funny. What we ate- I had lobster and steak, my father had the 3 meat (chkn, steak, shrimp). We left, and went to our place for the night. *****THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T WANT TO EAT HERE***** At 2am, I wake up to severe pain, and can hardly sit up out of bed it's so bad. Mind you, I'm a mother and can stand quite a bit of pain, but this was BAD. I finally was thrown out of bed by own body for the sake of saving my mattress and everything around it... From there? Bathroom, violently vomiting and diarrhea for hours. So today, after being through hell and back, you naturally have the 'Ive been sucker punched in gut' feel which is super fun too! So, I tell my friend what a fantastic night I had in the bathroom painting the toilet and bathtub at 2am. My doc friend said they've been reported for multiple health violations and have been shut down before in the past, and are known for bad food. I don't live here, so I wasn't aware, but Applebee's looks badass right now as opposed to the nightmare across the street. I'm still sore and in pain, almost 24hrs past. Please don't eat here, I beg you to save your stomach, your mattress, sheets, and dignity. It's not worth it. * Side note- a younger boy had a birthday next to us, and they did their little congrats performance. When they brought the 3 mini cupcakes with this huge sparkler/firework in the middle, he looked very concerned and didn't smile once. Don't recommend for children either! I know my babies would've been nervous too, and my kids are pretty fearless. read more

I'm from out of town and I went to the restaurant for the first time for some sushi with family. Upon placing an order I was curious what types of fish on the menu were wild caught as opposed to farm raised for the added health benefits and flavor. After all the "secret" to good sushi is good fish. Sounds reasonable right? The waitress didn't know, so I requested that she ask the chef. She returned and said that he didn't know either. I actually thought I was just being brushed off by the waiter, so I got up and asked the chef at the sushi bar myself and inded he had no idea where the source of the fish was for anything on the menu. So apparently nobody here knows exactly what they are ordering from their vendors and serving to the public, and based on my short interactions with them they don't seem to care either. Needless to say this isn't a place I'd recommend if you care to know what you and your family are actually eating. A novel idea; maybe find a place that cares as much about what they do and what they are serving as you care about what you are spending and eating. read more

Surprisingly good! I mean, I wasn't expecting too much when I learned that there was a Japanese restaurant connected to the Ramada Inn in Gillette, WY. What I found was a very nice space with lots of seating, good service, and pretty good food. I wouldn't go around comparing this place to sushi restaurants in large cities, but this restaurant is great for Wyoming. The sushi is perfectly serviceable. It is pretty much on par with most Chinese-owned sushi joints in the Montana/Wyoming area. The rolls I had were tasty and satisfying, but nowhere close to the best I have ever had. The gyoza was pretty good as well. If you are in Gillette on business, this is a really solid place to get a good dinner. I recommend it. read more

My family and I have only come a handful of times in the almost two years that we have lived here. Service is horrible. The two gals (same two gals that are there every time we have gone) that seat you and take your order have no personality and act doing their job is your fault. No smiles, Hi how are you today... is this seat fine? When / IF they ask you a question, they start walking away before you have time to even respond. These two gals up front should look for another job if they don't like working with the public. Not a very hospitable place to eat. Not the cleanliest either. The tables have a sticky film along with the salt, pepper and soy sauce. The door to the place is gross and stick, I am not sure it has ever been cleaned. The food is mediocre, but its the only Japanese place in town. Will, I go back? I am very hesitant. Wish Gillette had better Asian food available. read more
