Went here with some coworkers for pick up on Friday. The first sign that greeted us was to wear our masks for service and inside there was plenty of signs of them adhering to the social distancing recommendations. There was a table between us ordering and the counter; and all of the staff were wearing masks. Sapporo has menus that can be easily wiped down between customers. I ordered the Hibachi shrimp with a salmon rice roll. They both were okay. Specifically the Hibachi shrimp left a lot to be desired. It lacked a lot of flavor, it really could've used more garlic, spices, and less salt; it was not anything really special. Also, they charged a lot for so little, particularly extra vegetables that were non existant--my bill came to over $23 and I was hungry a couple of hours later. My coworkers felt the same as they've had wayyy better Hibachi. Also, the customer service was not the best as we were rudely told to wait outside and any time we asked about our order it was communicated back to us with roughness and attitude. I came here with a friend and her spouse during lunch and we opted for their lunch buffet. It is located right outside the gate south side of Fort Liberty. It has a very limited parking as it is shared with the other establishments in the same strip. It can definitely get crazy busy during lunch hours since it located right outside the base. Walking in, the staff were very welcoming, courteous, and overall friendly. The place is good for teams, large groups, and solo. The buffet menu was very limited, but more than enough for a filling lunch. The noodles, the spicy pork, the bulgogi, the dumplings, the fried rolls, the fried chicken, the veggies, and the fried rice were all delicious. I specifically lived the fried rice. The sushi is okay; if anything a little underwhelming. They skimp big time on whats actually suppose to be in the roll by filling it with rice. For example, my Philly roll had almost no avocado, not much cream cheese, and less salmon than rolls I've gotten from other restaurant. it was an Alaskan roll, which is reversed, rice on the outside but the majority of the roll inside the seaweed was also rice. Everything was fresh, so no knock there but they 100% replace the inner workings with rice. What drove me to write this review was sketchy business practice. Personally, when I got to pick up takeout food, I don't feel a person should be asked to tip. The chef is paid a viable salary and the person working the registered took less than a minute of their time to ring up the transaction and give me the food. However if that person stares at my signing my receipt, to avoid an uncomfortable situation, I'll sacrifice a dollar or two. And that is what I did. I tipped $2 on a $29 meal, which was only 3 sushi rolls. [Also worth noting the toll was 6 pieces as compared to the 8 which feels standard everywhere else.] Anyway, cut back to paying, I was rung up for an additional $4. Charged $35 for 18 pieces of sushi that was MOSTLY rice. I'd probably be more upset that the rolls were mostly rice, but I'm not because being uncharged an additional $4 is sketchy. Went to Sapporo on Reilly Rd. last night. The Miso soup tasted like chicken broth and tofu. Small flies circled around our food and in our faces. The boys got teriyaki chicken and I ordered sushi. After tasting burnt skin, I pulled this slimy stuff off the top of the sushi. Brought it to the attention of the waitress or manager or whoever and she told me it was supposed to be that way and proceeded to stand there and tell me to eat it while she watched. After I told her I wouldn't be eating it because it tasted burnt and was unappetizing she really still made me pay $16 for this roll of slimy sushi that was left on the plate. $100 tab that left the boys running to the bathroom about 15 minutes later. Wasabi was wet, edamame was undercooked (still a lil crunchy), all around will not be going back. You've been warned. You get bonus points if you can spot the dead fly on the plate. To start off, the food was amazing! The Kimbab and Ramen were the best I've ever had. The sushi is amazingly well made, and the portion sizes are perfect. The crab stick tempura were to die for, and the green tea ice cream for dessert was the best choice. The staff were kind and attentive and provided great service. Our waitress was understanding and quick to help us. One thing I really appreciated, too, was being left alone for our meal. Unless we needed something and called over the server, she didn't interrupt our meal. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Secondly, I've seen a lot of reviews about the staff being rude, but for a lot of the staff, especially the sushi chefs and those in the kitchen, English is not their first language. It's a matter of understanding that for people who learn English as a second language don't always have tone control or realize we, as Americans, might take the way they ask or say something as rude. When I told the server I got the wrong roll, she agreed and called over a lil old man, who also agreed, then they called over the young ghetto punk who worked behind the sushi counter and he lied to my face about what was in my sushi! His words, "That IS salmon and yellowtail, you just can't tell b/c it's so thinly sliced. I don't try to JIP my customers"... Instead of admitting their mistake, they'd rather lie (I'm white, so I guess they think I don't know sushi) so they didn't have to make me a new roll and use the premium ingredients they charged me $8 for. The roll was only 5 pieces. FAIL :( The rest of what I ordered was ok, but completely overpriced. Shrimp & cucumber salad only had 3 shrimp. Salmon nigiri was tiny and not the 'good stuff'. The plus side- dinner with a friend is always a treat, no matter where the location; Mama-san was a very nice server and the seaweed salad was good. Free miso soup (the tiniest lil serving ever w/ 2 cubes of tofu and about 2 shreds of seaweed). I ordered my standard litmus test for sushi which is the rainbow roll (see picture). I also ordered the volcano roll, simply to be adventurous. Ok before I get down and dirty with this review let me just put some things in perspective. In my opinion I have had some good sushi, especially in Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Orlando Florida. So when I rate sushi I am comparing the taste of the sushi I find to my past experience. That being said, Sapporo is not a bad place - for Fayetteville, NC. But, it's also not good in the grand scheme of things. Alright back to the task at hand. My rainbow roll was ok, better than your grocery store's sushi, but thats about it. As for the volcano roll....oh the volcano roll....you were a major disappointment. The volcano roll costs $12 which was a major rip off. It consists of a cucumber roll covered in shredded imitation crab meat and spicy sauce. That roll should have cost as much as a imitation crab meat roll ~$7. I felt used after I ate it. Bah. All I can say is that my wife and I have been eating here for a number of years and the food, Korean style has been superb The staff and waitresses have been excellent I have never had a bad meal at Sapporo restaurant. It's Tucktaway off of Reilly Road and fill y'all Street not far from the Reilly Road entrance to Fort Bragg. We have also ordered takeout and brought the food home to eat at our dinner table again excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for eating your oriental food. And pleasing your taste buds. As for food I recommend tempura shrimp, steamed Mondo, fried rice and scallops, Bulgogi and I can go along with more but if you're not sureJust asked the waitress what's a good meal and she will steer you in the right direction. Since moving here from California this is the best sushi I have found in North Carolina! The rolls were full of flavor, not over packed with rice, and perfect size. If I could give 0 , I would do it ! My Korean coworkers took me there for my birthday lunch cuz it's closed to our office and we only have an hour for it. The buffet bar was super small and pretty empty. We understood it's lunch time and busy, the restaurant serviced buffet and menu, to go but they just one server and boss lady herself doing everything. It was not a pleasant place to eat and only 3 kind of meat ( always empty) We all felt bad for the two men who sit right next to our table, they were only there about 7 minutes ( not even get their drinks) and because no food on the bar and they paid the whole price and left .... When we 6 people ready to pay our bills; the boss lady charged everything on my Male Korean coworker and he was nicely telling her "pay separately " then she got upset and raised her voice and complained about the inconvenience... when she charged my 2nd Korean coworker, she told her that her card was declined then she found out it was her mistakes and she didn't apologize it ( she refused to speak Korean to them although we all heard she spoke Korean to the lady in the kitchen). This place has a sanitation grade of 82 (B), which is filthy. How they're still open is beyond me. The food is flavorless and overpriced, literally their "ramen" is a 25¢ pack of ramen from the grocery store that they add broccoli to and charge $10 lol. And they have a policy where they charge you extra if you don't finish your food. If you don't want or can't finish all your food, I suggest you get a box and throw it away at your own discretion so they don't charge you more money for food you've already paid for. I couldn't even taste the salmon skin because of all the rice. It was basically a wad of rice wrapped in seaweed. Spicy Tuna Roll was the same, I barely had any tuna inside the roll. I literally just ate a plate of rice. I opened up a few of the rolls and they literally just place a pea size tuna meat inside the roll.
