This is an unassuming place in the plaza shared with Grilled Ginger and LOL Bubble Tea. I decided to check this place out because it's has that hole-in-the-wall kind of appeal. I ended up ordering the Gun Man Doo (fried dumplings) for an appetizer and Jjam Bbong (Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup) for my main entree. The dumplings were on the greasy side with a noticeable amount of oil that seeped inside that was unappealing. The flavor overall was decent and if cooked better would have been fine. The Jjam Bbong itself was a hearty portion with the noodles, but could have used a bit more salt since the broth tasted watered down. There was not much seafood in it and primarily had kim chi and onions. As mentioned in the other reviews, the service can be hit or miss and can appear a bit aloof. After I finished my meal, I expected my check, but the waitress took my bowls back and there was no one in the restaurant for a good 15 minutes. I was a bit surprised by this and got a bit worried/frustrated and when someone else came out from the back they did not seem to care much. The bibimbap was OK and though I asked for beef instead of the seafood version, there was little beef in the dish. The side dishes were OK as well, but when compared to other Korean spots around town, Peking would not be at the top. Meh. Korean food. Korean/Chinese food (jjajangmyun & jjamppong). Ordered Togo and food was ready in 5 minutes? I mean, I'm all for efficiency but clearly food was frozen then reheated. The jjajangmyun was the only thing with remotely enough flavor. The yook gae Jang and jjamppong didn't have any depth if flavor, essentially the broth tasted the same, just a ton of red pepper flakes. Funny since one is supposed to beef broth and the other seafood. Anyway, even the banchan (side dishes) were way past their prime. Wouldn't recommend anything else but the jjajangmyun. read more

It's a hidden gem. I came in for the first time and wasn't sure what I wanted. I wasn't interested in dining in ( it is a simple place that didn't have much ambiance for dining in.) Anyway, I was greeted by "Penny." She was super friendly and immediately recommended some items from the menu once she found out that this was my first visit. I couldn't say no. I saw a review that said they treat people who aren't Korean bad and I can say it has nothing to do with ethnicity. My Korean mom and I went there today and were appalled by the service. My food came out before my mom's but she encouraged me to eat before it got cold. When I was done eating, she asked politely if her bibimbap was coming and they had clearly forgot. What they ended up bringing out was nothing like any bibimbap I had ever seen. My mom tried a bite and said she had to send it back, there was just no way. They were very upset that she didn't like it and said "next time if you don't want it, don't touch it because someone else would eat it." Plus, the restaurant was extremely hot and every customer had to ask for more water if they wanted it. Just an awful experience. read more

I've been eating at this place for a few years now and it's still good. I'm not going to lie, if you want amazing service and a place with great decor, don't come here. If you're looking for good Korean food and have no expectations for service, go! I'm not saying the service is crappy, but it can be difficult to find someone to refill our drinks from time to time. The actual location is on the side of Orchid Garden and it really just looks like a hole in the wall kind of place, which it is. They don't have many servers on staff, lately it seems to be a young man whose their only server but that could just be a coincidence of the past few times I've been there. Their decor is minimal but they do have a tv if you need some type of entertainment while waiting for food. I can be a bit of a korean food snob at times since I grew up with it (thanks Mom!) but I believe their speciality is noodles specifically the jajamyeong (spelling varies) also known as black bean noodles. I've had their galbi and don't really like it, in my opinion it isn't worth the $23. Their bibimbop (korean mixed rice) is good as well. I've also tried the tangsuyok (fried pork or chicken in sweet sauce with vegetables) and its really good--one of their Chinese dishes I recommend. I will say, their side dishes are not great and really lacking. Compared to other Korean restaurants they could really step it up with the side dishes. However, if you know what to ask for, they'll accommodate you--but you do have to ask. Disclaimer: I always come here with my mother who is Korean and it is really obvious that they treat Americans and Koreans differently. Not in a bad way, but they're just more friendly and willing to talk if you can speak Korean. So, that being said, you won't have a horrible time if you don't speak Korean but it definitely helps. The location here is a bit obscure, but just trust your phone's directions. What you'll find is a quaint, comfortable Korean restaurant. We came here for dinner and ordered... Steamed mandoo, kalbi, and chop jae. Honestly, it was the best damn kalbi either of us have ever had. Excellent quality and tasty! The mandoo was deliciously soft and fragrant. And let's not forget the chop jae. Normally it isn't something we order, but my wife is pregnant and has cravings I can't make sense of. I don't know what sauce they cook it in but it's absolutely delicious. The banchan wasn't the best we've ever had, but good nonetheless. Great variety. Our bill was $50. Lunch has great specials all around $10 so keep that in mind. However, we brought ALOT of food home after dinner. So I'd say you're definately getting your money's worth. This is the only korean Chinese fusion place in Fayetteville I believe. I'm korean. It's is pretty good 4 stars good. Jjajangmyun was a comfort food for me growing up and it's pretty good. I'd stay away from the kangJjajangmyun, it didn't seem to be cooked that well when it is supposed to be "refried". The KangPoongKi is very good. The TangSuYuk is too sweet for my taste personally. The place is on the pricier side for this type of food but what can you expect if you don't really don't have competition and the only place in town. The wait times can be incredibly long sometimes. Usually one person doing waiting, serving, cleaning, doing the cash register, phone calls, take out. Pro tip - if you call ahead and tell them what time you are arriving. The food will be set on the table for you by the time you arrive. Update: Reconfirm the variable service. Came in half an hour before closing (The hours listed were incorrect). We walk into the restaurant and decide to order Sam gyup sal (Korean pork bbq). Ajuma (traditional name for middle-aged Korean woman) walks us into the dining room then into her kitchen table, where she personally cooks the Sam gyup sal and serves us like a good ol' hospitable Korean Mom. She was reluctant to treat us how any race treats their own kind (yes, I am saying this, because it's true) ...then, I tell her that I lived in Korea for a year and my appetite/food knowledge of traditional Korean cuisine rivaled that of a native-born Korean. This is the moment that I request her to grill my kimchi... Yes, I said 'grill', because this is the best way and most 'Korean' way to eat it with Sam gyup sal. Her eyes light up, and it was like we morphed into her children right before her very eyes. She grilled the Sam gyup sal, gave us extra banchan, kept pouring the bori cha, and so on... The only thing missing was the shots of Soju, but it was only lunch, and we had a long way to drive. Needless to say, we had an unexpectedly pleasant experience, going from regular customer to Ajuma's children in just 2 visits! How awesome is that?! On another note, this is NOT a Chinese restaurant, although I'm not sure why Yelp categorized it this way. Maybe because it's named Peking? Anyway, I digress. This is a KOREAN restaurant serving deliciously authentic Korean dishes. They also have a selection of Chinese food, but not the Chinese food you eat at the 50 different Super Happy Family Chinese Buffets strewn across Fayetteville. First, I want to clear the air here by stating up front that this place has nothing to do with "Peking" or Beijing. Am from there and there is nothing Beijing about this restaurant. It's Korean. I remember coming in here, at the back of the back of the strip mall, scared someone was going to jump out of the garbage dump and grab me. Luckily, no one did and I made it into the restaurant where there was...also NO ONE. A sad little man came and took my order with no English and the menu he handed me was definitely sticky so I tried to delicately only touch the corners. I got the galbi lunch box and it was okay. The restaurant was so empty and sad and depressing with its old green carpet, windowless surroundings, and single tv flashing muted cnn. I wolfed down the food and left. We lived in Korea for 3 years, so we love Korean food. This was our 1st visit here, so we haven't tried everything. We ordered the Mackerel with the doenjang jjigae, kimchi jjigae, and Samgyeopsal. My husband enjoyed the kimchi jjigae while my kids and I were eating the rest. The mackerel was cooked well as was the samgyeopsal. Though we had to ask for the sesame oil and salt and it was a bit over salted imo. Samgyeopsal was served with the lettuce leaves and doenjang paste as well as the rest of the panchan (little dishes.) Our dinner for all 4 of us with those dishes and drinks came out to $60 plus tip. This is definitely where the Koreans go for real authentic Korean food. It's not that great with their kimchi and sides, but if you want really good Kalbi (Korean short ribs) hands down they got the best! Don't be turned off that its in the same strip mall as pink pussy cat (shudder) or that its located behind the orchid garden... You would never even realize there was another restaurant behind all the other stores and restaurants, you know it's legit if they did crappy decor but the locals still go. I tried their shrimp tang su yuk (Korean sweet and sour) the sauce is killer but he must use rice flour to bread the shrimp and it was a bit too chewy for me. I would say best bet, go during lunch and get the Kalbi bento box for the best deal. If you dont and just order from the regular menu, It's a bit pricey but they don't do the usual all u can eat lunch thing....which I'm grateful for. It's like a one man show as I believe it's the owner who greets and seats you, takes your order, cooks the food and serves you. I never see it too crowded but the clientele is mostly all Korean. We were visiting Fort Bragg and found this hidden Korean restaurant thanks to yelp. We had a good start with 10 gun mandoo (Fried dumplings) and cold and hot barley tea - free refills! We also had the beef bulgogi and the jjam jam myun - which was half jjam bong (spicy seafood noodle) and half jja jang myun (noodles with black bean sauce). Our dinner came with six banchan (kimchi, fish cake, sprouts, spinach, marinated eggplant and I think the last one was julienned potato?) and a side of yellow daikon radish. Very good Korean restaurant!! Let's start with the basics: How to find it... It is on the side of a Thai restaurant, Orchid Garden. As you drive up to Orchid Garden go around the right side and on the corner of the building is the entrance. It is very clean inside and the staff, I use that term loosely as there was only one waitress and the chef, was very friendly and service was great. If you are facing Orchid Garden, this place is located on the right side of Orchid Garden. There are signs pointing toward the back, but don't bother - you'll just end up driving in a big circle. It's very easy to miss. The only reason I found this place was because of Yelp. Once I walked in, the staff seemed to be in the middle of a card game or something of that sort (poker? gambling?), and they were quite distracted for awhile, to the point that we were about to leave and go to a different restaurant because we were unsure if the room that they were in was part of the restaurant. We were unsure if they were staff for the restaurant or staff for the adjacent restaurant, so we did not want to disturb them because they were clearly preoccupied. We were the only customers at the time in the restaurant, and nobody was at the front desk. Once we were able to get their attention, we were seated right away, and one of the staff members seemed to scold another for not paying attention to customers at the front. She seemed to demand to know how long we were waiting. My boyfriend and I both were craving bibimbap, and we decided to try the Haemul Dolsot Bibimbap (rice on a hot stoneware pot with assorted vegetables, fried egg, and seafood) for $13.95. The vegetables consisted of bok choy, bamboo shoots, red bell pepper, zucchini, and carrots. The seafood included shrimp and squid. The dish was topped with sesame seeds and seaweed strips. I had no idea that it would be so incredibly spicy! I usually have mild or non-spicy bibimbop, so this came as a huge shock to me. It was so spicy that I could not enjoy my meal. My boyfriend loved it, but I could not finish mine because of how spicy it was, and it is very rare for me to leave my meal unfinished. Also, only 2 sides came with the bibimbap, and both were kimchi vegetables. I was disappointed by the lack of more sides. And of all the sides, I received the spicy ones! If my dish wasn't already so spicy, I would have welcomed these sides. I did enjoy our appetizers though. We had Gun Man Doo (fried dumplings) - 10 pieces for $11.95. They were light and crispy with the perfect amount of stuffing. They came with slices of onion and yellow pickled radish, which were very refreshing. I used this more to help cool down the flavors of my entree. Overall, the staff was very nice, once we were finally noticed. I just wish I could have enjoyed my main course. I found this place purely by accident. I'm a huge fan of korean style Chinese food. I pulled in today to go to eat pho and saw an obscure sign. I followed it and was surprisingly blessed! Based on other good yelp reviews my husband and I decided to try this korean restaurant. I am not above going to hole in the wall places for good Asian. Unfortunately, this place was just pretty sad. I want to give them 2.5 (no 1/2 star option on the rating system) The business center it is in is full of other Asian restaurants, but Peking is hidden in the very back next to a karaoke place. The decor is just old, the tables and chairs do not match, and there is a tv up on the wall. I went there for lunch on the weekend and there were 3 other tables filled with customers. For a place that is very casual looking, the prices for food are really high! I ordered the mandu gook (soup with dumplings and rice cake) My husband order kalbi soup (soup with beef ribs, clear noodles, and veggies) The food was only ok.... halfway through eating my soup I realized there were no rice cakes in it. My husbands soup was ok, I tasted the beef and it was really bland and flavorless. We spent around $26 for these two soups. The side appetizers they give for free were good, the little egg squares were good. I overheard another table, the waiter was asking these two guys if they wanted more rice. I thought that was nice. The service was really good, the workers are very nice. Restrooms- small, old, and nasty, FYI parents, no changing table. I don't know if we'll try this place again, I think this place would be ok for their lunch specials because that menu is better priced. Peking has delicious Korean food. I ordered a variety of dishes, Kimchi jjigae, bulgogi, and japchae. Each dish was cooked perfectly and had the right balance of flavors. I was disappointed that there was no jajangmyun sauce when I visited, so I couldn't order the dish to try. The banchan dishes were very good but skimpy.
