Loved this place for the beers more than the food. PROS: Interesting craft beers on the menu. You've bound to find something you like. I tried 4 unique ones on my visit. Fruity ales to dark chocolate stouts. Service was superb. CONS: The food was hit or miss. The pretzel app came with hot mustard and was worthy of 5 stars. The mac and cheese or the wedge salad were lackluster. Entrees. Chicken and waffles were solid. Codfish tacos were light on flavor and contained mushy fish, not crunchy or flaky, and it was overpowered by the mayo based sauce. I would order again. Burgers were solid though. OVERALL: A 5 star spot for beers. But a 3.5 star spot for food. There are many food places in this center area of Huntington. I look forward to trying other ones. What am I missing with these 4 & 5 star reviews?? I had this place bookmarked for a while based on Newsdays pick for one of the best burgers in Long Island. Just like I said about Umami, Sapsuckers is a bar first. They have a nice looking, dark bar with 16 different beers on tap. Check in the plus column The dining room isn't large, there are only a few (2) top tables. I came midweek in the afternoon, Friday night this place can get crazy so don't think you'll be coming here and get a seating for 6 people. It's not that kind of place. It's a bar. The Hamburger. Really Newsday? Picture a nice fresh brioche bun. Then add a tomato slice as well as one piece of lettuce. Next, add meat and voila, top burger of Long Island?? Didja ever hear of toppings like Aioli? It needed something. Overall It was ok, it wasn't the best. Sorry Newsday/Folks of Huntington/Burger fans. The bill comes, the burger and (1) beer was $26 bucks?! WTF! So not worth it folks. Listen, It's great place to have a funky expensive beer. Finally got to check out Sapsuckers as I've heard so many good things about it and I'm glad I did. I stopped in here on a Monday afternoon, so it was nice and empty. I sat at the bar and was friendly greeted by the bartender who made a few suggestions off the beer and food menu. I went with Greenport Harbor Summer $7/15oz. Ale which paired perfectly with their butter baked pretzel $5 and hummus $7. Both were pretty damned good. The beer selection was definitely more quality vs. quantity which is good and you'll probably discover some hard to find labels. The dinner menu looked good as well, and I look forward to returning to check that out. The décor, like other reviewers have pointed out, is upscale gastropub. Very sleek looking bar with dark wood paneling and blue/grey walls/mirrors in front area. In the back, there is a small lightly colored seating area which looks like it could get very cramped back there when busy. The whole place is actually kind of small. I would definitively like to return here during prime time (really cool place, but l missed out on the ambiance of night and the vibe of others on my visit). Front is completely open to air. Highly recommend a visit. Be prepared to spend money. The beer menu can get very pricey. 3.5 stars, but rounded to 4 up cuz I went during the day. read more

Oh man! I have finally made it to Sapsuckers and boy... I just can't wait to go back. After reviewing the menu online and finding a few items that made the hunger pangs come on we were on our way. My mom and I split the Three Little Pigs and Mac and Cheese. Boy oh boy. Now... listen the Mac and Cheese was one of the better ones out but not my all time fave out. My all time fave Mac and Cheese out goes hands down to Tullulah's in Bay Shore. If you haven't been you must get in your car and go now! GO! Leave! Bye! Oh and also get the Chorizo. Finally tried this place on a nice (day off) Friday afternoon! My one complaint is that it's small.....Was seated quickly at the bar and although it was crowded, the bartender checked in with us often. Food was FANTASTIC! First, I LOVE that their beef is organic and all natural. That is something really important to me when ordering a burger. We sat at the hightops by the bar to avoid the wait since it was a Friday night. I got The Chief burger and it was one of the best burgers I had. OMG! Are you a birder? If you are this place is perfect for you! From the artwork of birds, and a famous Audubon painting to the bird mugs, this restaurant is a delightful experience. Yes-this place is as good as it gets for food. I've been now 3 times and can't wait to return for another round of apps! I can't really judge on beers because I don't really drink but they really seem to have a great collection of brews...the rest of my group don't ever seem to be disappointed with their choices or even what the bartender/waiter has suggested! Today we had: Potato Peirogies: EXCELLENT...my first time ever experiencing them and WOW what a yummy introduction! Warm, soft inside with a delicious crisp on the outside. 3 Little Pigs: SO yummy! I wish it could have been served a little hotter but the sauce was tasty and the slaw on top was not drenched in mayo which allowed for a decent crunch. Food in general is still good (maybe not as good as it once was) HOWEVER- if you're looking for a solid vegetarian meal, there's really only the option of ordering the black bean burger, which unfortunately was just awful today...mushy and tasteless, i almost wonder if it wasn't a black bean burger at all. Sapsuckers is an awesome speakeasy-ish vibe with great custom cocktails and quality food. I only got to try out a few of their items but I'm definitely going to be coming back for more and for their happy hour! This place is definitely more for beer lovers and that's who they're targeting but I'm more of a liquor guy and their crafted cocktails were delicious! Drinks: I ordered a s'mores cocktail that had a great whiskey base and loved it! It came with a marshmallow on it and our server would come and light it up, presentation is definitely a 10/10 here. My friend ordered a fruity cocktail with a Titos base which was also great, it was strong but also tasted good! Food: The big thing that shocked me here was their nachos! Unfortunately thats all we got to try but I cant remember the last primarily bar spot I went to where they made their own tortilla chips! The nachos were amazingly fresh and were definitely loaded! I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now and I finally managed to stop in. The host was super nice as well as the waitress. Bar had enough seating as well as the booths on the side. There is more tables in the back for larger crowds or a more personal convo. I ordered the blackbean burger which was amazing. Just the right amount of special sauce and avocado. The bun i believe was a 9 grain. Not a fan of the skinny fries but still good. My wife ordered a salad which was of right proportion. I ordered the 18 Watt by a local queens brewery which was good. There are french doors that open up onto main street and a large TV at the bar. Winners on the menu are the 3 little pigs (3 bbq pork sliders), pierogies, thin cut fries, ribs, burgers and the grilled cheese. Really nothing is bad here but these are my goto choices. The staff very knowledgable about the beer selection. If you're like me and can stare at a beer list for an hour before deciding what to drink they are more that happy to help you decide what to order and to explain what their favorite brews are. The only problem with Saps is the size. It's small. So know this and come early or be cool with putting your name on the list and chilling at the bar with a couple brews. I had the mac n cheese, which was amazing and definitely bigger than an appetizer, which is where it is listed on the menu. My boyfriend had the burger with gorgonzola and bacon. This is a little on the pricey side for a burger, but he said it was worth every penny! The rosemary fries are incredible! The service: very attentive, friendly wait staff. I really want to like you better. The service is so good and friendly (proactive offers to taste beers when asking about them and constantly polishing glasses were 2 things that stood out to me), and the concept of "gastropub" is hit right on the head between the combination of unique foods (wild boar sausage or pretzel buns for example) featuring local or organic selections and a constantly rotating set of quality micro-brews. BUT the value for the price you pay is way off. I loved how the buffalo wings were served with chopped Gorgonzola, ensuring that each dip of celery would have tons of tiny pieces of cheese on it, but with only 6 measly wings, it's a little disappointing. I get it, they're organic - but I'll gladly eat the hormones and antibiotics though if it means getting an adult sized wing. They're also tiny. It's only 6 of them. Complaining about $8 for 6 wings feels cheap, but I'd gladly pay $10 for a dozen and be very happy. I love fries. These fries are great (thin, crispy but not crunchy), but about half of my fries were little fry-bits like the remnants of a basket, not whole fries - a quality control oversight that kind of soured my opinion. I love the beer list and how the descriptions of the beers actually give an idea of the beer's flavor profile, but to serve 15oz pours gives me the impression (again) of paying more for less product than I should. Would I even notice an oz short pour? Probably not. But we're talking about impressions and feelings, not graduated cylinder measurements here. The stools at the bar tables are also really really inappropriately uncomfortable for this place (small seats, no backs) and I wouldn't want to sit here to watch a game or a fight for more than 30 minutes. Especially since it didn't seem like there was a happy hour - or any drink specials at all for that matter. All my complaining aside, I would return here - the food was really very well cooked and their menu almost begs to be eaten-through over time. read more

Sapsuckers has become my new favorite place in Huntington Village. I just love the concept of a Gastropub because of the casual comfort level combined with excellent food and Sapsuckers does it right every time. The bar is legit with a wonderful scotch, whiskey and tequila selection. This is the only bar in Huntington Village other than Besito (which is Mexican) to serve my fav tequila, Tres Generaciones. Nice touch! The food is delish. The appetizers unusual but each different and excellent. From the most delicious pork sliders (Three Little Pigs) to the Deviled Eggs (Eggs Nest) to the homemade Hummus, you can't go wrong even just snacking here. But save room for dinner because the mallet burger is great as are the rotating list of dinner specials. Never made it to dessert as I usually stick with a tequila neat to finish things off nicely. Ambiance here is great. Its a small place with a warm wooden bar. The dining area must have about 10-12 tables tops so it stays intimate in feel. My friend and I wound up staying at the bar one night watching Rocky IV because the cool music they were playing in the bar combined with the casual feel and great drinks made us too happy to leave! Kris and I spent quite a bit of time in Huntington back in October - usually we're in the city when we visit LI - and this was a regular spot that spilled back over into this summer. What a great place. Good music, cool space, great staff, excellent food and a phenomenal selection of beer! Whether seated at the bar or tables you're sure to get prompt, great service. There is a seating area in the back but we've yet to sit there - we stay in the bar. I love a place where people who serve beer actually know beer and Sapsuckers fits the bill. I wanted to try something new and explained what I like and the waitress got it. Unlike the time I was at another place in the Midwest and said, "I don't like malty beers... I like hops. Hops at the start, hops throughout, hops at the finish," and the server said, "You should definitely stay away from IPAs." Good grief. I've had smaller bites here and also a burger and other big meals - all are fresh and fantastic. The location is also great for people watching. Another example of this new "gastropub" movement that is spreading quickly throughout NY. But you can still get normal things here like a burger, nachos, etc. And there is an extensive selection of craft beers! The staff is very polite and very educated on the beers that they offer, as it should be. We stopped in for lunch. I had the mac and cheese appetizer which was much larger than expected. It was good and I noticed other tables sharing the dish as well. Creamy but the truffle flavor was somewhat off and didn't balance well with the cheese. I order mac and cheese or other cheese heavy dishes often and this one was okay. Also tried the caesar salad with grilled chicken. The dressing was so overwhelming. Too creamy because there was way too much dressing, similar to how some bagel shops put too much cream cheese and you end up wiping some off. Except in a salad, you cannot wipe off the excess dressing... So after a few bites of romaine, I only continued with the grilled chicken which was pretty standard as well. I'm sure they can do dressing on the side? My friend ordered the shrimp curry, cleaned her plate, and started eating some caesar salad chicken. I think the prices here are a little high for what you get. I don't find myself in Huntington often so not sure that I would actually come back before trying something new. We started with the homemade pierogies, which were phenomenal. Cooked perfectly with just the right amount of stuffing topped with onions. Yum. My wife had the cheesesteak which she gave a thumbs up to. I took a bite and admit it's one of the best I've had. My Cuban sandwich was delicious. I appreciate when restaurants offer healthy fare as I am a health-conscious foodie and can only eat so many salads. The salsa fresca was on point! It tasted incredibly fresh and was very flavorful. The rest of the entree left a bit to be desired. The fish, potatoes, and green beans were lacking in flavor and I sprinkled quite a bit of salt on the potatoes just to give them something. My sister- a vegan- and I got the veggie burger. It is LITERALLY a vegetable burger. I've never seen one like this so if you love veggies this is your dream spot. It is made of nothing else. Spinach onion pepper and mushroom I believe. Not chopped enough for my liking but could Deff see others feelin it. The bun is brioche and SUPERB and I replaced the fontina cheese with cheddar which was fine. Fries are herb and the ones without herb were great. Shoe string and crunchy. But the herb was not my fav and the pickle it comes with had a weird smell or taste I was not a fan of.
