The food is really good. I'm writing this review as I am eating it. I would definitely order from Sarang again.

Did not make my go back again list. There was nothing that made lunch a bad choice but also nothing that made it a good choice. Anytime I have thoughts of I should have just waited till I got home to eat. That's not a good thing. My bibimbap was as bland as it could have been and the sauce that came in a plastic cup didn't help much. My son had the ramyun with tofu it was ok but nothing that would make you want to order it again. The house made kimchi was not fermented but a quickie look a like when the flavor of a cucumber is stronger than kimchi spice and fermentation something is not right. I absolutely love their bubble tea! You're greeted as soon as you enter the shop. The service has always been fast. The only complaint I have is Sundays opening time. I believe it's 5pm? Sunday is often the only day of the week my family and I can go out together. We wanted to stop by and order bubble tea, but were quickly disappointed because it was only noon. We were told to check this place out by a good friend of mine Jamal. My buddy Mike was in town and we all got together to rehearse for a movie shoot, right after we were all very hungry so we drove out about 20 minutes to this place. The place looks like any traditional Chinese restaurant except this place is Korean so it was a nice change. I ordered their Dak-Kangjung, and though the chicken was a tad bit over cooked the overall composition and flavors worked wonderfully together! I enjoyed the ambiance and it's full casual nature. My buddy said we'd get full with one plate but not feel like crap afterwards and boy was he right! The owner of the place along side the staff should be happy and proud. Absolutely love this place!!! I've been here several times and have been impressed each time. I usually get the dolsot bibimbap. It's full of fresh vegetables, delicious beef bulgogi and rice. You can also get a tofu version instead of the beef. This comes with a hot sauce you can mix in, or soy sauce if you don't like spicy food. On my last visit I was accompanied by my sister and step daughter. My sister got the japchae because she loves the glass noodles. This also comes with a beef or tofu option. My step daughter got the Yachae-Jeon which is described as a Korean vegetable pancake. Everything is always fresh and delicious. The employees at the restaurant are always polite and provide excellent service. My Korean pronunciation isn't great, and they are always polite about it. My favorite part about the place has to be the bubble tea though. The milk tea flavor is my favorite. Definitely a must try if you decide to check it out! read more

The inside of Sarang is cute and quirky. When we visited there was K-pop music playing and Korean game shows on the television. It's a very casual eatery: small with cafe seating, floral wall art and neat pebble flooring. Parking is around the back in a shared lot and overall convenient. Be warned: It's easy to go overboard with your order at Sarang-- which is exactly what we did. The portion sizes are large and the pricing is exceptionally reasonable. Both of us got ramyun, which was pretty tasty. It was a huge portion that really you could probably share. The regular ramyun had broth with just a little spice to it and was good but overall very mild in flavor. The kimbop was my favorite dish. It tasted fresh, was not vinegary like Japanese sushi can be, and was just an all around good bite both in flavor and texture. The dak kangjung was savory and juicy. The chicken didn't taste frozen and while the flavor wasn't bold, it was still very pleasant. I also tried the Kim Mari. This was the one item I didn't care for and wouldn't have again. The taste was just ok and the inside noodle texture was extremely off-putting. The texture made me feel as though I were eating fried roe. I feel this dish could've benefited from some variety on the inside. That aside, I would highly suggest trying this place out. I only got a bubble tea or "boba" and it was DELICIOUS! I ordered a medium green tea, mango mix with passion fruit popping boba for around $7. They used a powder for at least the green tea so I was worried it was going to be matcha... not my style. But it was good. Stopped by for a quick carry out meal of bibimbap, kimchi and bubble tea and everything was good.The staff was friendly and food was good. I wish it was a little more spicy but for takeout it was pretty good. I am so excited that I have another Korean restaurant and this one is close to work and easy to get to by Bardstown Rd and Eastern Parkway. Fair warning the place is small and you order at the counter so no fancy sit down service but the girl that took my order and her mother that fixed my Bibimbap were very nice. My book club friends and I went to Sarang on Saturday night and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant itself was quaint, in a way that I like things to be quaint. I reminded me of how things are in the old country. This isn't a fancy place; this is where the proletariat eats and enjoys their peers. It was clean, it was charming, it wasn't intimidating. The food was out of this world, but before we get to the food I have to commend the staff for wading all the way through our white privilege to help us arrive at our order. Some of us hadn't had Korean food in twenty years - or at all- and we had a lot of questions that may have been insensitive or insulting. The young people working at the store must have taken a class in working with clueless white people because they did superb. We ordered several things and shared them. The Lord President of the book club (a title I just gave him) got the Bibimap, I ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap (because I am a one-upper) which is essentially Bibimbap (rice mixed with marinated vegetables, a fresh fried egg with beef or tofu) in a hot stone bowl and I got the spice pork Bulgogi in mine. The Lord President's husband (I'm not calling him the first lady, he's not ladylike) got the Dak-Kangjung (fried, marinated boneless chicken) with fried rice, and our newbie ordered Ramyun (fancy ramen with stuff in it). We shared Kimbap (rice and vegetables rolled into seaweed wrappers), Kim-Mari (fried glass noodles), Mandoo (fried dumplings that people in the Midwest call "pot stickers"), and a second order of Dak-Kangjung. I also tried the bubble tea and it was good, it was like an iced tea with cream, and I think tapioca in it. I ordered it because my friend ordered one and I'm all for new experiences. It is also called, Boba Tea, and I was hoping it would have some connection to Boba Fett. There is no such connection. We had amazing service and food, the atmosphere was wonderful, and we will certainly be back. We really liked that the owner came out to talk to us and ask us how we enjoyed everything. I always like that when small business owners make a point to connect with the community. The Lord President of the Book Club spent time in Korea as a child and when he was in the military and vouched for the food being authentic and as he remembered as a child and as an adult. It was the best Korean food I've had, even compared to going to Korean friend's homes. Incidentally, it's right by Qdoba so I was surprised my burrito tractor beam didn't pull me in. read more

Excellent value. Ordered the spicy pork bulgogi ($10) and it was exactly as named - spicy. Flavorful and generous portion with a small side of kimchi. I went to order a bottle of water and the server suggested the free water at the end of the counter. When does that ever happen? I've been meaning to try this place for a while and finally stopped in the other day. It's a small place that specializes in Korean food and bubble tea. I tried the pork bulgogi, which had an excellent spice and flavor. To my pleasant surprise, the serving was huge -- I finished it, but probably shouldn't have. It could easily have made for two meals. My wife and I also split the beef mandoo, basically little fried dumplings. They made for an excellent appetizer. The wife ordered bubble tea which really isn't my thing at all. But she liked it. Prices are very reasonable. It was under $30 for two entrees, the mandoo and the bubble tea, and again the portions are large. It's a fairly simple menu, but I like that since some places just overwhelm you with choices. They do a few things but do them very well. There is some seating inside, but you can also call your order in ahead of time. I'll be doing that again soon. read more

My wife and I have moved to louisville in the past year and haven't been able to find a new Korean joint that is close to us. We were pretty excited when we saw Sarang open up, but unfortunately weren't totally impressed. Overall - for what it is this place is pretty good. If you're looking for quick take-out Korean it was both speedy and tasty. Dishes were served in plastic to-go containers and served over the counter. The pork bul go gi was pretty good! Very close to any other Korean restaurant that I've had. Would get this again if I went back. The Bi bim bap was sub-par. The egg was cold and pre-prepared, along with the pickled vegetables. I had a friend in town who wanted to try this place out, and I humored him despite my "meh" experience last time. The food tasted better, so i gave a star... but I refuse to give this place another star more. The reason being the service and the way i was treated and some "complications" over the menu. I looked at the menu and saw my options for the kimbap; there were three. For two of them, it said there was (crab) in them. For the third, the vegetarian, it stated the protein was (tofu).I ordered the veggie one. When i got my food, there wasn't tofu, but crab. I went up to the counter and said "I think my order was made wrong, I asked for the vegetarian not for any of the ones that had crab. The woman at the counter looked at me like I was crazy and said, with a bit of attitude, "The vegetarian comes with crab." I responded "but I thought it came with tofu?" She, once again with a very annoyed and rude tone, said "the vegetarian roll doesn't come with tofu, it comes with crab." I then pointed at the menu where it, very clearly, said the vegetarian roll comes with tofu... not crab. She then excuses herself to speak to the chef, who was right behind her. They spoke in Korean (I'm assuming), and the waitress turned back to me with an "I told you so" face and says "yea the chef says the vegetarian roll doesn't come with tofu, but with crab, but we can edit it for you". Honestly, sorry not sorry, I think that's b.s. I think she made a mistake, refused to acknowledge it, and took advantage of using another language to make it look like i was in the wrong. That OR the place not only doesnt understand what vegetarian means but falsely advertises whats in their food; which I doubt. read more

I can't believe that there is a kind of restaurant that is close to my house! The kind that you can walk into and order just about anything on the menu and walk away full and satisfied. I consider myself an Asian cuisine novice. I've been cooking Asian food for at least ten years from Vietnamese food to Korean. And have traveled to Asia for multiple occasions. From the time I ordered my food and when I got it, it was no more than 3 minutes. Super fast service!!! Speaking of service, this establishment delivers a warm family friendly feeling. After a 21/2 hours zip line tour at Louisville mega cavern, I was feeling super hungry. We quickly searched for nearby restaurants on Yelp and selected this one. It's a nice cosy restaurant. Owner of the restaurant was so sweet and so was the server. They both helped me in selecting my order. I ordered strawberry bubble tea, veggie ramyun and veggie mandoo. My experience and ratings are as follow: Strawberry bubble tea(2/5): it was like mixing strawberry flavor with skimmed milk and adding sugar and tapioca pearls. It was not good. Veggie ramyun (5/5): I ordered spicy but it was not spicy at all but was well seasoned. It had good amount of veggies, egg and ramen noodles. The broth was yum. Mandoo(4/5): it's like fried dumpling, tasted good. Overall a nice place to try Korean cuisine and its reasonable too. During my next visit, I will try their pancake. read more

Not too many choices here as this is a small place. Used to be Ce Fiore which I was sad to see close but the owners are the same so they kept the bubble tea...huge win in my book! I had their version of sushi rolls and that was very tasty. It looks like they make most of their food earlier in the day and then its pretty much ready when you order it. Sarang is a gem of Louisville. Located in a quaint neighborhood whose dense residential streets strike an eerie resemblance to ones surrounding Seoul, this small restaurant is a must. And at great prices! With homemade kimchis (yes, plural!), the stone bowls were hot enough to crisp the rice without burning it. (So they can crisp, mix from the center without disturbing the edges.) Ingredients were fresh, perfectly proportioned for Bibimbap, and the yokes were runny like they're meant to be. Our bulgogis were seasoned salty and sweet in the Korean way. I'd have liked the meat to have been fattier, but my wife and daughter preferred the lean cuts. Finally, my son -- normally a slow and lite eater -- finished his Ramyun to the broth! Sarang remains a five star experience in my book. I've been sick with the flu for a week and the only thing giving me life right now is their spicy ramen noodles and their honey citron tea. Their broth is perfectly spicy with the right amount of savory. Their tea, albeit a little on the sweet side, was exactly what I needed for my poor sore throat and congested chest. I wish I could speak to the other menu items but alas, I can't steer myself away from their spicy ramen. It is king in my book and I shall not betray it. Sarang is a great little counter-style takeaway. I imagine the food tastes like what a Korean grandmother would make since cook appears to be a sweet natured lady of grandmotherly age. My favorites are the spicy rice cakes and spicy ramyun, both have the perfect level of spice for me. The kimchi tastes light and tart. I ordered the fried rice and also a spicy ramen (spelled differently). It was the best fried rice I've ever had and the ramyun (I think) was also good. Kimchi was tasty and I'm not a fan in general. I had been craving boba since I moved to Louisville, cause it's everywhere in the DC area! We tried the taro and coffee with boba and they were absolutely perfect! The consistency of the drinks were great and the boba was cooked perfectly (I've had boba at a lot of small restaurants that don't cook it correctly and it's all hard and gross). I had spicy ramyun with mandoo and my boyfriend had mild ramyun with bulgog! The broth was super tasty and perfect for the cold rainy weather that day! Location is very small so dont count on eating in unless the weather is nice enough to take advantage of outside tables - I was lucky enough to snag the last table available the night I was there. A for effort. I went to this place yesterday and the were out of the hot pots. I was disappointed but decided to give it another shot today. I went again this evening and they had the hot pots but no kimbap. It wasn't even close to closing time. It was packed but there's a limited amount of seating. The hot pot looked great and the ingredients looked fresh but the hot itself wasn't hot enough. My favorite part of a hot pot is the crispy rice at the bottom that is burnt. I paid the extra $5 for a hot pot but had I known I was gonna get the normal bibimbap, I wouldn't have paid the $5. Coming from Dallas where we have an abundance of Korean restaurants, I thought I'd go easy on this Korean place in Louisville but I was really disappointed. Maybe I would've had a better experience if it wasn't during their busy hours? The quality is good but their customer service needs some improvement. read more
