We've been eating at Saranji for the past few years since my children started attending UNCC. The food is consistently good. With the exception of the naan. We've noticed the last 2 times we've dined in the naan doesn't taste fresh, it's like it's sat under a heat lamp. This has been disappointing. Upon first arriving, the service here was fantastic. I accidentally showed up 15 minutes before open, and the owner (I assume) let us sit and was very welcoming, offering us menus to look over as well as waters (which came in really pretty glasses). I ordered a chai massala and it's delicious-- super creamy and flavorful. We ordered the chicken soup, butter chicken, and garlic naan! The chicken soup had a lemony flavor and was pretty mild. It was pleasant! The butter chicken we ordered as medium spice. Most Indian restaurants will label something as "medium" and it'll be hot, but this medium spice was pretty mild. This is not an Indian resturant. We tried many dishes and when we told the food doesn't taste indian to which the owner's wife responded with arrogance that they never claimed they were an Indian resturant. They are a Nepali resturant as the food tastes way different than Indian food. We ordered vada pav which was tasteless, dahi puri was too sweet, samosa chat was dry. For the main course we ordered saag paneer which was horrible, chili chicken was tasteless and full of color. Hakka noodles were good, Gobi aloo was okay. Momos are nothing but pre-made potstickers from the store. Indian/ Nepali momo is round what they give is nowhere close to momo. Please don't fake advertise if you can't serve Indian food. Just say Nepali food and set the expectations right as both regions have a different take on the same dish. The back staff needs to work on their cooking skills. read more

Absolutely delicious. We had the samosas and the chicken chili momo for appetizers and while both were good, the momo stole the show. They were the perfect blend of flavor and spice. Y'all I normally don't leave reviews but let me tell you about how I almost broke my neck at dinner! So we have gone to this restaurant a few times in the past as stand in for when my go to spot is closed. Well tonight was one of those nights. The first thing that threw us off was the amount of time we had to wait for each course. Appetizers took a roughly 30 minutes and then it was an hour before we received the first entree. My husbands meal was wrong, when we told them it was wrong.m, no server response was " no actually you did order this, if you want something else it was take some time". They put in the wrong order for my husband but because of wait time we just sucked it up and kept the meal. Then I waited an additional 30 minutes for my entree which was originally given to the wrong table so they had to remake it. Finally it was time to close the tab and wouldn't you know it as I'm reaching to hand the man my card my chair moves back into a drain pipe sending me backwards with my legs flying in the air. Thank goodness there was table of people behind me! Me crashing into them slowed me down enough to keep my head from smacking the floor. After I'm lifted back up to my feet, a man behind the counter mentions, " yeah we really need to move that table". I can only assume that I'm not the first person to fall victim to this poor chair placement. The food is pretty good but I think this will be our last time visiting this spot. I ordered to go for 1 butter chicken, 3 butter naan,1 chicken biriyani and 1 chicken chilli momo. In these all of the items , only chicken momo was good. All other items are tasteless. Chicken biriyani is like normal chicken curry and rice mixed and no taste and only 4 small pieces of chicken. In butter chicken they gave may be 4-5 invisible sizes of chicken slices. We ordered delivery from here. The portion sizes were SO small. And they were mostly sauce and little protein. Even the rice portions seemed small. I know we paid extra per item because we used a delivery service. But even if it was half off, I would have considered it expensive for what we got. The flavors were good, but not great. I came in and ordered a lamb curry to go on the 14th, just as they opened for dinner at 5pm. The manager took my order and made sure to ask the level of hot that I liked, I said very spicy. I came back in about 20 min. to pick up my order and got surprised at the size of the container, the size of an individual soup order container from any Chinese restaurant. I expected a larger portion since its dinner a nd it coast $16.95 + tax, I got the same size container of a inferior quality brand of Basmati rice. I am from that part of the planet, and found the curry to be boring and not good, and had no heat to it after the manager made sure to ask that one question as I ordered.
