I appreciate that Sara is honest about what will, or will not, work for what I am asking (making pockets out of nothing!), and fair in her pricing (she works out of her garage, so you're not paying for the overhead of a rental space!!). You can text regarding appointments; I've never had a hem fall or a seam split; and she can work with a variety of materials (I trust her with very expensive pieces, or unforgiving fabric). FANTASTIC WORK! I bought a dress online that looked PERFECT for my 1st family photo shoot with my fiancé and our 8 month old daughter. But once I got the dress and actually tried it on, I was super unhappy with how frumpy it made me look in the chest area. My family shoot was about 2 weeks away and needed an alteration QUICK but I also didn't want to spend an arm and a leg to have it done. I met with Sara and she found a couple of reasons why it didn't fit right and fixed them! I was hesitant to write this review because I was not able to utilize the services. I found Sara's Alterations on Yelp (which had great reviews) and am trying to find a good tailor since our move. I called several times over a few days, and no one answered the phone. There was not even an update for business hours. I drove all the way there anyway and realized it was a residence. That would've been OK, but I called one more time... and she finally answered and said she she was out for vacation. I was not able to get my clothes altered. I understand unplugging during vacation, but this Yelp business profile is "Claimed", and I'm sure there's a way to edit for special hours. Sara is a magical dress maker. I needed three dresses for a wedding, and two of them were too big for me. She completely had to reconstruct one of the dresses, and it fits like a glove now. It's been almost 4 years since my last review and thought I would update my review since I still see Sara almost every few months. She tailors tops, bath suits, formal dresses and pretty much anything. I attend many Middle Eastern modest weddings and have a very tough time trying to find the right dress for the occasion. For cultural purposes I like to wear dresses that have long sleeves and long length which are very hard to find. Sara has worked on and transformed multiple dresses for me. She's also worked on really old traditional thobs dresses thats been passed down from my grandmother to mother to me, I completely trust her work. The best alterations and the best woman. I found Sara's Alterations here on yelp as she was close to me and responded same day, and even got me in that day. She measured me, listened to everything I was looking for, and allowed me on extreme short notice (and first time as a costumer) to also put a rush on my order. Her prices are unbelievably fair and such amazing work. She is SO precise!! I have now been to her a couple times and will continue to. I am a very tall woman, with a leaner figure so nothing usually fits right. She listens to exactly everything I want, and gets it beyond perfect each time. She is extremely friendly, nice, usually responds to my messages within 10 minutes every time and always allows me to come same day. (REVIEW NOT ASSOCIATED W/ PERSONAL WORK ON AN ITEM) Super disappointed:/. I called in to make an appointment 5 days prior before coming. The person who picked up answered "uh who is this?", so they didn't seem like they knew what was going on. But I let that pass because it is a home business. Anyways, I told them I needed an alteration done on my prom dress. The person behind the phone told me she would let the owner, or who ever was working with me that day, know that I had an appointment at 3pm. So today (4/16/19) I called in 1 hour before to make sure my appointment was still available. No one picked up. So I waited another 30 min before my appointment to call again, no one picked up. 15 min before my appointment I called again and no one picked up. It was 2:50pm and I decided to drive there just Incase she was busy and couldn't answer the phone. I showed up at exactly 3pm waiting at the door for a good amount of time. I was being patient and rang the door bell again with no one to answer me:( I went back into my car and waited for another 10 minutes just in case if anyone would open the door, but sadly...no one came out. I left and had to find another place to do my alterations. I was really hoping to work with Sara's Alterations because of all of the wonderful reviews. I had a mermaid dress which needed an emergency alterations (I was not gonna go to a formal event since it was held far away but my husband insisted me going last minute). I contacted Sara 3 days before I needed the dress... despite the fact that alterations for a formal dress usually take 4 to 6 weeks, Sara was very respectful and understanding of my situation. I had to stop at her place late at night twice (to drop it off and to pick it up), but she was always kind and invited me in with smile! What an angel she is! She does not have a store front and works in her garage, but oh my! Her work was absolutely stunning! She technically had only 2 days to work on my dress, but she did an AMAZING job and did not cut any corners at all! If anything, she went above and beyond! The original dress had the same length all around, but Sara suggested that it might look better if she kept the back a bit longer (so it is kind of like high-low). When I wore the dress at the banquet, everyone (seriously, everyone!!) turned around to look at my dress and gave me so many compliments! It was at the perfect length in front so I could walk easily, but drags a bit on the back so it gave me super formal, princess-y, flowy, eye-catching effect! I cannot thank her enough! Sara is a sweet gem of a tailor with a keen eye for how fabric should drape and fit. I walked in with an over sized blazer and after trying it on for her she new exactly what to do with it. She shorten the sleeves and took in the waist. It is now the best fitted blazer I own. I was happy with the price we agreed on before hand and happier still with the fit of my blazer. Turn around time is about three days but if you are in a rush she can have it done by the next day. She works out of her home so please call her before hand. Sara was a lifesaver for a last minute bridesmaid dress hem for my friends wedding. Long story short, I had to get a new dress very last minute and needed a hem the same week as the wedding. I reached out to Sara on a Sunday and she invited me to come in to see the dress about an hour later. She works out of her home & has a great setup - the professionalism and care she took in measuring out the right length was impressive. I felt like I had really come to the master of her craft! Two days later, I was able to try the dress on & it just fit perfectly. Could not have been happier with it! Even with a rush charge, I felt her pricing was really reasonable: 85, total. (For comparison, I'd also taken this same dress to a gentleman who said he would charge 70 for a standard hem without a slit, which this dress had). Yup, you read it right. Sara works out of her home garage. As long as you know that going in, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I was in desperate need of a shirt hem. It's a simple fix for someone who knows how to, and owns a sewing machine. I am not that person. So, in my frantic yelp search on a Thursday evening for someone to do the job in less than a day, I stumbled upon Sara's Alterations. She's in the next neighborhood, so things were already looking in my favor. Call ahead. She will let you know if she's available. Since she does work out of her home, she can pretty much keep her own hours. I wouldn't just roll up and assume she's home. Save yourself some time and just make sure. Cash only. Again, be prepared. Her prices are very reasonable. She'll quote you a price upon looking at the job. I needed it by noon the next day, and she said she could do it. She charged me $12, which I felt was very reasonable, considering it was less than a day turnaround. In fact, I ran some errands and a few hours later, she texted and said it was done. Done! The shirt was perfectly hemmed, and I was well on my way. Sara is very nice, and very efficient. If you're a little hesitant since she works out of her garage, then don't start with your super expensive pieces. Bring something simple and test the waters that way. read more

Based on Yelp reviews, I went to Sara's Alterations. She runs this business out of her garage from her home in a deeply residential area, which I expected from reading the other reviews. What I didn't expect is what a horrible job she did altering a power skirt from BCBG. It was too large for me after losing weight and what she had to do was take in the skirt on both sides. However, what I got back was nothing like the high quality of the original stitching of the BCBG skirt. Since these skirts are meant to stretch and be tight, the seams on both sides of the skirt are finely sewn so that they lay flat, instead of creating lumps under the stretchy material. The skirt I got back had sloppy seams with significant margins so that it is impossible for the skirt to lay flat on both sides. I was concerned when I picked up the skirt, but it wasn't until I wore it out for the first time that I saw how horrible the skirt was laying on either side. I was shopping on a sunny day and the imperfections became glaring. The new seams create huge lumps under the stretchy material. In addition, the seams have ripples and when the skirt stretches, I can see the thread! It looks like crap. I have other BCBG power skirts and have compared them to this altered skirt and there is no comparison with the fit. They are all 100% better sewn. The cost was $30 for a horrible alteration. Definitely, definitely not worth it and would never go back. read more

Have you ever had a leather jacket altered? Not an easy fix, but Sara handled it beautifully. The arms on my Harley Davidson jacket (with two-way zippers at the cuff!) we're two inches too long. Sara was able to cut the arms while still maintaining a functioning zipper. Amazing! Sara also expertly altered a work suit for me, proportionately pulling in the shoulders and the chest plus shortening the sleeves. Seeing how fast and reasonably priced she was (and being that it was less than a week before my wedding) I decided to give her a shot! Best experience I've ever had with alterations! I've been to a few places to hem my pants, but they always did the job fine, but my pants would look strange, and I didn't understand why. I guess since I'm short (5'0"), taking off length tends to leave the bottoms looking wife and awkward. Sara noticed the issue when she was working on my pants, so she went ahead and tapered the legs for me at the bottom. I'm SO happy with how it turned out, and I'm so glad she used her professional judgment to make sure the final result would look great! You can tell she's very experienced and knows what she's doing. Also, I asked her to cuff my pants, and she triple checked to make sure I didn't just mean a hem, since cuffing isn't very common. It was nice that she made an effort to communicate very clearly! She told me that she charges $15 for a hem and $18 for a cuff since the process is a bit harder. I thought this was pretty reasonable. Keep in mind she only takes cash, so be sure to bring some when you pick up your items. Sara's Alterations is located in a residential area, and I happened to live one street down from her so the location was super convenient for me. I had read good reviews so I called and set up an appointment - call first! Bring cash upon pickup. I bought a leather jacket online which is awesome in every respect and exactly what I wanted except... the zippers are the WORST zippers I've ever experienced. Even after removing the pocket zippers, it was like pulling a chainsaw across my hand. But aside from that, the main zipper broke at the bottom. The guide part split and I couldn't zip it up and keep it zipped. I don't understand why people can't just spend the extra couple of bucks on a YYK and be have a quality product. It would be worth the extra cost. Anyway, the leather was doubled over, far beyond the capabilities of my Singer. Sara has her setup in her garage, which is open when she is expecting people. I don't remember how many machines she has set up in there but it looked good for a home-based business. Told her not to hurry, she called back 4 days later with a new black plastic bigger tougher zipper. You can't tell any alteration was made. As far as the pockets, I just cut the zippers out with a scalpel. :) read more
