We had hummus, babaganoush and stuffed grape leaves with a Turkish bread. Three appetizers were very fresh and tasted absolutely delicious. It would have been better if the bread came out warm. We ordered gyro, lamb souvlaki and adana platter with a salad. The gyro tasted the best. The other two meats were overcooked and rather dry. The Turkish coffee and tea were good and baklava was too sweet. The waiter was kind to give us more Turkish bread to take out left over food. read more

The food was pretty decent -- no complaints about the taste. The atmosphere was okay, though there were some flies around that made the experience less enjoyable. Service was fine as well. My main issue was the price-to-portion ratio. I was served two chicken leg-and-thigh pieces with a small cup of room temperature rice for $25, which felt steep. After adding a water and tip, the total came out to about $40 -- for what was essentially two pieces of chicken and a bit of rice. I don't mind paying more for good food, but I expect the portion size to reflect the price. If you're fine with spending that much for a small meal, then it might be worth it. But personally, I found the value to be way off for what was served. read more

Really good food, large portions, friendly wait staff... What more could you want? I went with a group of 6 for lunch on a Sunday. Luckily they were able to seat us immediately. A few other tables were occupied by large groups as well. This is my second time trying Turkish food so I'm obviously not an expert, but everything we ordered was delicious and I would get it again. One of the friends I was with used to live in Turkey for a few years and knows the language/cuisine very well so he ordered for our entire table and we shared everything family style. We got 2 shepherd salads, a mix dip platter with babaganoush and 2 other appetizers (I don't remember which ones), 2 Saray Mix Grills, and a side of fries. This was wayyyy more than enough for our group of 6... we probably could've gotten away with just ordering 1 mix grill to be honest. This is my second time coming here and I remember having a better experience during my first visut. Must be a factor of the food we order. Octopus was supposed to be a hot appetizer but the octopus itself was cold when served. Mixed platter is tasted dry - my favorite in the platter is the adana kebab. I probably should have ordered tzatziki as a dip to complement the platter. I haven't tried their desserts but it looks delicious! Will try them next time we come back. Excellent Turkish breakfast worth the long bike ride to get here. Our favorites in the kahvaltı were the delicious crema and honey, the fluffy poğaça, peppery menemen, and of course unlimited çay. My guess is the owners here hail from Trabzon given the menu's inclusion of kuymak (which I'll be back to try) and hamsı tava. If only the view from the outside seating were of the Bosphorus and not suburban Cliffside Park! read more

I've been to @saraycuisinenj many times for dinner but have you ever tried Turkish Breakfast? Me neither until yesterday! Wow what a spread of goodies! I didn't know what to expect but we were blown away by the quality of the food and the variety of Turkish breakfast foods @saraycuisinenj has to offer. Turkish breakfast has everything from savory to sweet but the key is to get Turkish coffee and fresh squeezed OJ to wash it all down. 10/10 would recommend! What a great Turkish restaurant! I'm sad I found this place so late. Their outdoor patio is a great option during the pandemic. We felt comfortable the whole time and service was on point. The manager was constantly around checking in on customers. Food was delicious and everything was seasoned perfectly. The meats grilled well with great char and stayed juicy. Byob available and Turkish tea and coffee available with scrumptious desserts. I can't wait to go back before the cold weather sets in. Great overall experience across the board. Not sure about the odd 1 star review with the comments on the portions. From what I experienced myself, one thing I'd say is there is absolutely no issue with the portioning whatsoever relative to the price you pay. The price to value ratio here is definitely not nearly as challenging as some other similar restaurants I've dined at in the area. We decided to go all out and try the Saray Mix Grill. The chicken shishkabob, meatballs, chicken adana and lamb were all extremely tasty. No sauce needed here as the meats were extremely tender, flavorful and paired nicely with the rice and bulgar. For $38 you can pretty easily feed 2-4 people with this giant plate (depending on your appetite), which is a pretty solid deal IMO. The stuffed grape leaves appetizer was also delicious, fresh and light. The grape leaves themselves were a highlight of this dish. The babaganoush appetizer was also immense and had a refreshingly light texture. It pairs nicely with their excellent bread. On top of the great food, the service was also top notch. The staff was extremely friendly, highly attentive and really went above and beyond to keep folks happy. Masks were always on and they were very considerate of spacing in the outdoor dining area - which had ample distance between tables and was also situated in a nice, relaxing atmosphere. I can see why this place was pretty busy even on Sunday morning. They are one of the few Turkish places that open early (before 11am or noon), which is great for early risers and families looking for an early lunch or breakfast options. The manager here was very kind and definitely seems to care a lot about the customers. No doubt I'll be back here again. I lived near Cliffside Park for a majority of my life and I can tell you that the Turkish Food scene there is better then many other towns in Bergen County. Saray Cuisine is fairly new, but location wise they picked up a gem with ACTUAL PARKING. (Sorry I HATE street parking, so anytime someone has a parking lot I have to call it out) My go to at almost any Turkish restaurant is the same - red lentil soup, Coban Salata, Döner, paired with a refreshing Gazoz. I like Saray and the food they create I just wish that they would season their meals more - once a dish lands on my plate whether its at home or in the actual restaurant I need to load it up with salt, black pepper, and some sumac. The establishment has a very clean/minimal Mediterranean aesthetic. I'm not going to lie though, I've taken out more then I have actually eaten inside so I don't feel that I can comment on the service. One good thing that this spot has going for them (other then the parking situation) is that they offer indoor as well as outdoor seating - but as an FYI the outdoor seating is covered. Overall if I'm in the area I do tend to pop in, but if seasoning is a must on your list there are many other great Turkish restaurants to try out in the area. read more

Delicious Turkish food! I love the ambiance here - the restaurant is spacious and filled with simple yet beautiful Turkish decor, making this spot feel both casual yet also refined. For lunch, I shared the off-menu item Hamsi Tava (fried anchovies, freshly imported from Turkey), the Adana Kebab (minced lamb skewer), and the Turkish milk pudding. Everything was so flavorful! The anchovies were lightly battered and fried in olive oil; I loved how the dish didn't feel heavy or greasy at all. The kebab was juicy, aromatic, and wonderfully seasoned. And although I was ridiculously full by the time dessert came around, I still managed to enjoy and finish all of the Turkish pudding. Can't wait to come back to try more dishes. Unlike few other reviews here about the management, this review is regarding the food itself. I didn't experience the management and their racism/rudeness when I was there. Now, first thing is first. They charge you $1.75 for a bottle of water and they don't offer tap water either. We ordered the lunch menu and the lentil soup was quite good. This set us to be excited about the meal. 1. Falafel, as an appetizer, was burnt and tasteless. It comes with humus when the menu says tahini sauce. What? 2. Entrée, both chicken shish and gyro, were underseasoned. We ordered takeout from Saray for the first time and were very pleased with the quality. The babagahush was creamy and our favorite selection in our order, The grilled lamb/beef meatballs were packed with flavor and accompanied with bulgur (cracked wheat), a side we had never tasted yet definitely enjoyed. The stuffed grape leaves were not as memorable as the other offerings but certainly still fine. We added a side cucumber and tomato salad that was very fresh-tasting and a perfect side to complete the meal. We'll defnitely return to try more from Saray in the future! read more

Last week, when we were in NY visiting our son and staying at a hotel in Edgewater, we stumbled upon this restaurant while walking down Anderson Avenue and decided to give it a try. We were so pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! Being originally from Türkiye, we are familiar with authentic Turkish cuisine, and the gyro (döner) was exceptional - one of the best I've had. Our son enjoyed his şiş kebab, and the complimentary, hot pide (Turkish bread) was a nice touch. The çoban salatası (shepherd's salad) and lahmacun were also good. Our waiter, Cagatay, was very kind and attentive. We were thoroughly pleased with our experience and would definitely return if we're in the area again. Saray historically have been one of my most favorite places. They have good quality food and friendly service. I had eaten more than 10 times before that is why I was so surprised by the change in the portion sizes. It used to be full of gyro in the gyro wrap. Now they put a mere amount to cover 'enough'. Been a frequent customer for years and we have noticed a steep decline in quality of food and service the last few times we've been to Saray. Prices are higher (which is expected given recent inflation) but the food quality and quantity has also gone down. In addition to the fact that the food has deteriorated in quality and flavor, the service is awful. They don't check in during your meal once you have your food and you have to practically tackle them to get your bill and or anything else you need during the course of your meal. The food quality and taste is definitely above average compared to other Turkish restaurants I have been to. Kaan (one of the waiters) is very attentive to all tables. I really like the atmosphere here. I feel all Turkish places are very calm and soothing. The decor is very vintage and has a lot of antiques. My boyfriend and I came for lunch. We ordered two appetizers and our meals. We started off with the stuffed grape leaves and the Paçanga böreği. I would recommend both appetizers! Grape leaves are a staple and the Paçanga böreği is a type of börek made with yufka. The inside ingredients consist of cheese, pastirma, tomato, parsley and pepper. Simple ingredients, but tied together with the flaky börek was so good! We then both had wraps. Those were okay for me. I actually liked the chicken more than the Adana. We tried ordered gyros, but the meat wasn't ready yet. I would a suggest going after 1pm if you are in the hunt for some. The salad that came with my wrap felt underdressed or maybe I'm just not eating carrots and peppers as salad? Either way I felt it could have used a little more jazz. And lastly, for dessert we ordered the rice pudding! To my surprise it was cold in the middle with a crisp top layer. I actually preferred the rice pudding this way! I made my wife's birthday party at this wonderful restaurant. We had 20 people , and with great help and planning from Soloman, it was fantastic. Our server Shayna went above and beyond to make everything perfect. We could play music and really party. As soon as we walked in, we're greeted by the friendly staff. They were really nice to us and other customers. Friendly staff is always a plus! Vivacious and Varied Milieu En Route: Turkish speaking driver enthralls our three riders. On arrival at Saray we are guided to one of the spaces quite distant from the entrance with extensive late morning New Jersey sun spreading about. This room today has only a few totally shady spots. Parallel dining area visible shows much more shade and shielding from sun. Seated in a spot one of our diners found hot the waitperson promptly changed the direction of the overhead fan and also brought two smaller fans nearby to point at us. Sparse customer presence, perhaps only five tables of the plentiful seating space throughout, are settled during our late morning dining time. On the return voyage our driver shares Hindi speaking with the one of us Hindi enabled. Waitpersons stay active, steadily available nearby, regular prompt smiles from main waitperson, amidst some busy, quasi stolid facial auto moments. Savor and delight in, as we did, the eggplant salad, babaganush, visually enticing esme, cheese roll, and, yes, menemen (scrambled eggs with tomatoes, peppers and onions) and a variety of luscious, beautiful sauces. Turkish language learners feel welcome here to try out their skills. P.S. Very tasty Turkish food in Cliffside Park that offers live music in the evening but it'll cost you $20 per person to sit outside so we opted to sit inside. Partner ordered the lamb shank $22.95 and I ordered chicken shish kebab $16.95. After my dish was served, we were told the lamb shank was sold out. Partner then ordered the lamb shish kebab $21.95. The lamb shish kebab took a very long time to cook. I had already finished my entree and the lamb kebab still was not served so we asked to take it to go.
