A little pricey but worth it. Flavor profile is elegant and delightful. The restaurant isn't big but flavor makes up for the location

THE SURROUNDINGS -------------------------------- + Very local, homey feel to the restaurant. + Restaurant is located right by a set of train tracks. + Interior isn't huge, but still has a decent number of tables. + Big private parking lot outside. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- + Came by on a Sunday afternoon at 12 PM and it was verrry quiet. There were 2 tables already wrapping up their meals, but we were the only customers inside for the next hour. - They charge a 4% credit card fee, so try to bring cash if you want to save a few bucks!

There were a lot of empty tables awaiting reservations. The complimentary bread and olive tapenade were also appreciated. We really enjoyed the food: spanakopita ($20) was tasty with a very flaky Phyllo and a fresh salad with grape leaves and chunks of feta, things you don't normally see in a side salad. The pork souvlaki platter ($22) with fries was also very tasty. Their menu is not super big but adequate options. If you have a special occasion, this is also a good spot but be sure to make reservations and know it's a relatively small place. The atmosphere and decor are very comfortable though it can get very loud if there are a lot of customers (and these customers seemed to be enjoying their experience!); perhaps because of the small place and acoustics. BYOB. They had an entrance in the back so they likely have a small parking Iot there? But we found parking around the corner, as there's no 2 hour parking limit on weekends.

Sofia's is absolutely among those quality restaurants that should be considered the pride and lifeblood of Hasbrouck Heights. Easily one of the nicest and most family oriented Greek spots I've been to in recent memory. I strongly encourage anyone in the area to give it a shot and bring a group to dine in. The only negative I'd say is that the price can be a little over the top for some of the meal items, however, given the ambiance, the service, the quality and the experiences I've had there, it's a fair price. From cooking to salad dressings, Greek olive oil made from lemon, basil, and oregano is their liquid gold. Located on a busy Boulevard in the heart of Hasbrouck Heights, I finally got the opportunity to stop in at this BYOB family-owned/operated establishment. Upon entering for lunch after 4 years, Sofia's Mediterranean Grill, named after the owner's mom, I was greeted by the staff. I got a booth, immediately knowing how they get crowded. The inside evoked a cozy and warm vibe with Greek music playing throughout. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting. Their menu features an array of traditional Mediterranean dishes, offering a variety of soups, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, meats from the grill, seafood cooked various ways, and entrees cooked from the oven. I decided on the Greek salad with grilled chicken. The food was authentic, fresh using the finest ingredients, delicious, and prepared simply, which is exactly what I was looking for. The portion was healthy. The service is always friendly and welcoming. I got to connect with the owner, Nick, a fellow Astorian, to catch up about the old neighborhood. The price was reasonable. If one's craving the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean, then look no further. One doesn't need to book a flight to Greece to enjoy authentic meals.

The baba ghanoush was everything I love in a good eggplant dip and was a definite win in our book - seasoned, textured, and slightly smokey. We intuited this would be delicious by getting two containers of it, and this turned out to be a great life choice. Chicken adana is a fan favorite in our house, and it's done pretty well here. They're like elongated loaves of marinated and spiced ground chicken, and delicious with rice and a dollop of yogurt sauce. We preferred these over the chicken kebab, which were just as flavorful but quite a bit drier. Both entrees were served with a grilled tomato and pepper, which were still warm and charred from the grill. They also came with small side salads, with lightly dressed and slightly wilted greens. My husband appreciated the extra veggies with our meal, but I far preferred the warm and soft pita rounds.

Whether it's a roast turkey with endless sides, spicy meat stew, a seafood extravaganza, or even no-frills Kentucky Fried Chicken, there's no holding back when the season for feasting rolls around. Located on busy Broadway in Elmwood Park, we decided on our Christmas Eve dinner at this family-owned establishment. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon arrival as first-timers, my partner and I were greeted by the owner at Taverna Mykonos and got a table for two right away in the corner where the tables are close to each other inside their cozy, very dim-lit, and elegant dining room with Christmas music playing throughout. There's a full bar with an extensive selection of Greek wines, with approximately 80% sourced from regions across Greece, as well as other excellent choices from California and Spain. The menu featured both authentic traditional Greek dishes along with many other options. The restaurant bakes all of its bread as well as its desserts. Traditionally, the meat of choice served during a Greek Christmas meal is lamb and pork. For starters, we decided to share Keftedes (Greek-style seasoned meatballs served with tzatziki dipping sauce). For our main meal, we opted for Baby Roasted Lamb with roasted potatoes and Lamb Shank with tomato orzo. Complimentary bread started our meal, and we washed it down with a sparkling spring water product of Greece. Complimentary cookies were given to each table at the end of the meal. The food was fresh, using quality ingredients, tasty, and well-presented. We enjoyed the keftedes very much, as they were moist and complemented well with the tzatziki dipping sauce. The portion was reasonable. However, we were disappointed with the Baby Roasted Lamb, as it was mostly bones with only some pieces of edible meat. Service is professional, friendly, and fast. The cost is comparable to the area. Exchanged a few words with the owner, George, about the old neighborhood in Astoria. Opa!

We got a table right away. The menu had a variety of dishes like appetizers, soups, gyro, kebabs, pasta, pizzas, seafood, wraps and sandwiches. In drinks section, they had the Turkish coffee and tea. We started with their complementary bread, so fluffy and light, we pretty ate the whole thing before any of our dishes came. I ordered my favorite fried liver cubes from the hot apps section, and it was fantastic. It was full of flavor, perfectly sized cubes and properly fried. Tasted so good with the complimentary bread (we requested a second one). For entree we ordered the Mix Grill and Karisik Izgara as it was a perfectly sharable dish for two and we got to try 5 of their kebabs that are lamb shish, ground lamb, chicken shish, ground chicken and grilled meat patties. Both ground kebabs were excellent, full of flavors. The shish and patties were also good. We got the margarita pizza too, but that one was disappointed, seemed like some sauce was just thrown on top of the cheese and wasn't baked long enough. Our server was really friendly. She always stayed on top of things. Our dishes came out in quick time, it was impressive. Despite the shortcoming of the pizza, which is not usually a Turkish dish, I was thoroughly impressed by the actually Turkish dishes, like liver cubes and kebabs. I'll for sure visit them again whenever I feel like having kebabs next time

We had to ask twice for our rice we ordered for entrees to be brought out because our server forgot. Fine, that happens. But what really threw me off was when I questioned if the mold in my cheese was normal, the server assured me it was naturally occurring for the flavor. I felt gaslit because I have never had Parmesan with such questionable green growth on it for consumption in any restaurant in my entire life. The server said if it bothered me, he'd bring out fresh shavings with no mold. I have left pictures so you can be the judge of this. Aside from my minor issue with the cheese, the ambiance of the restaurant was nice and there's plenty of choices for meat and non-meat eaters alike
