Amazing sandwiches done right for decades! Sandwiches are the best thing I have tasted!

We used to come here often when we lived in Miami. I missed their Fritanga bowls a lot ever since we moved to Orlando in 2022. Well, an opportunity arose to visit Miami and how could we pass up the chance to eat at Sarussi Cafe Subs again? We were greeted by the ever charming Maria and her bright, beautiful smile. The staff here is very friendly and they keep the place super clean. We were humbled and grateful that they still remembered us after three long years. We ordered the croqueta de jamón(ham croquettes), yuca frita (fried yuca), pulled pork fritanga bowl, pan con chorizo and that delicious limeade/lemonade that they prepare in house. Everything was fresh and delicious just the way we remembered them. If you are in Miami and craving some delicious Hispanic quick bites, we would strongly recommend Sarussi Cafe Subs on SW 40th Street. You won't be disappointed. I've drive by this restaurant for a while and decided to try it out today. Thankfully there wasn't a line and the food was prepared quickly and exactly like I ordered it. The inside is small but had a good amount of seating. It's clean and inviting. The food tasted great and was a good portion size. Overall I was very pleased with this spot. I usually always order here for my work team. My employee asked for no fried cheese and no crema and my other worker asked for no crema. In the first bowl they put fried cheese and no sarussi house sauce which is the (green one) I specially only asked for no crema only and the same thing happened to the other plate. One of our leads asked for a mw churrasco and it was overdone and had way too many skin and on top there was a hair in the food. Usually sarussi is our top choice but after this we will have to pass. I stumbled here by accident as I thought it was the Cuban sarussi. Come to find out it's a Nicaraguan spot. Mehh it was kinda lackluster. The food looks soo delicious on pictures but the taste for me was soo off. The steak sandwich was soo salty and almost tasted pickley. The bowl in turn had no flavor at all. Came all the way from California to try this fritanga wrap! IG definitely sold it. Extremely expressive for very little meat and cheese (mostly rice beans and sweet plantains) We ordered a few and one had zero cheese. (Queso frito) definitely a gimmick. I would drive the 45minutes any time I crave it for their subs and wraps. I don't even know what I ordered or what was in my sandwich but it was so good. Recommended by a friend of a friend that is familiar with the area - mind you we live in Broward County. This place is amazing. Their strawberry lemonade (frosted/frozen) and their mango shakes were already amazing I couldn't wait to try the sandwiches. There were a lot of people ordering to-go or coming in for pick up. I have been researching and looking for new different eateries and after watching a local Miami Foodie's countdown of best Cuban sandwiches I came across Sarussi Cafe. There are multiple locations in Miami and luckily we have one right next to us. They are known for their unique take of the Cuban sandwich, so I decided to ordered one with their fried cheese and plantain chips. The interior of the restaurant was the typical Cuban cafeteria bustling and nosy. The fried cheese was perfect and it brought a creamy cilantro dipping sauce that went well with the plantain chips. Then came the main attraction the sandwich, which was one of the best sandwiches I have eaten in a long time. The catch here is they used a special red tangy sauce and the bread is glazed with a garlic butter and then toasted. Those two flavors really stand out in the sandwich for a very unique taste. I think it's both a blessing and curse to have such a delicious sandwich so close to where we live. read more

Sarussi is a staple in Miami. They have amazing subs but in all honesty I go for the Fritanga bowl which looks and tastes amazing. A nice Nicaraguan dish. They also have homemade lemonade which you can ask for less sugar or the sugar on the side to make it however sweet you want it. Come with me to Sarussi Cafe Subs in University Park on Bird Road. This was my first visit to Sarussi, and it was delicious. Upon walking in, we were kindly greeted and told to sit wherever we liked. Their subs and wraps caught my attention a while back, and they are even better than in pictures. For our drinks, I had Passion Fruit Juice, and my sister had a Jupiña. The Passion Fruit Juice was blended and fresh. We had their Fritanga Churrasco Wrap and the Sarussi Chicken Tenter Sandwich. Both were AMAZING. The Fritanga Wrap was delicious. The combination of the classic fritanga elements in a wrap is fantastic. The churrasco was tender, and combined with the maduros, gallo pinto, and queso frito, it was great. The Chicken Tender sub was perfect, with a good ratio of tenders in every bite. Nicely toasted bread and the honey mustard tied it all together. We did not have any deserts because we were very full. Overall, Sarussi Cafe Subs was fantastic. I will return to try some of their other menu items and have the two I tried this visit again. read more

The fritanga churrasco wrap was divine! This is the only reason why you should come to this establishment. It's packed on weekends so make sure you know there might be a wait! The staff and the service was great. The reason for the 4 stars is because that was the worst cubano we've ever had! This hole in the wall has to have the best wrap I've ever had. It was sooooo good, especially with the fried egg and blend of unique spices. The mango smoothie was absolutely delicious too, not too thick or too watery. They had a wide variety of Spanish cuisine so I will definitely be back there soon. read more

The Fritanga wrap was great and definitely a creative delicious idea. The Cubano was good but the bread gets hard quick. The ambiance isn't bad. The issue is the service. The older lady in the front is short tempered and quick to lash out. The prices were risen higher than what was advertised online. Not bad, it was ok but not worth the hype or price point. THE PLACE: Located in a Westchester shopping center, parking is accessible, but hard to find in peak hours. Inside, the restaurant is small with 5 booths and 3 tables, a beautiful mural, and an open kitchen. Everything looked like it was made with much love and attention to detail. THE FOOD: In my visit, I ordered the popular Fritanga bowl 3/5 it was good, but didn't wow me or taste better than the typical Nica places I go to. Additionally, its $18 FOR A BOWL, a medium-small bowl. Dishes like these typically get a double serving for an average price of $12- $15 bucks. I ordered the Mamey shake 3/5, which was ok, just lacked sugar. Upon checking in with Yelp, the guest is granted a free order of fries. I almost didnt get them because the waiter insisted it had to be on a to-go order and/or that the offer was no longer available. I showed her it said "dine -in only" and the active offer on yelp. She eventually asked someone else and I was given fries. The fries were 3/5 also, not cripsy and lacked salt. THE SERVICE: The is restaurant was packed every min I was there, I understand the pressures that come with that, however, customer service or a simple smile should never be compromised. I was not greeted or smiled at at any point, it almost felt like they were rushing me or where bothered by me placing my order. At my table, I was never checked on or even looked at, Yet when paying, there is a preset of tip options pre-selected for you, pressuring you to tip a certain amount because they are looking at you and the screen while to complete it. The customer service isn't up to par and I think it has to do with the lady owner. At least she seems like she's the owner. She's not friendly when you come in and she treats her employees very mean and demeaning and that sets off a bad impression. How can you expect your employees to give good customer service when you don't provide that yourself and treat them rude. The flavor of the food is good. I enjoyed eating the fritanga wrap. First of all, in all the videos it shows avocado...it doesn't come with it you have to add it, which I didn't know. Also, they gave less churrasco then they show in all their videos. So, with all that being said I don't think that it's worth the cost of it. I paid $19 for a wrap with little churrasco, very few chips, and bad customer service. My favorite dish here is the Fritanga Churrasco Bowl which includes: Gallo Pinto, grilled skirt steak, crispy fried cheese cubes, and sweet fried plantains topped with their signature homemade cilantro sauce and creamy crema. I have been a patron since the original Sarrussi's. While I have purchased the original sandwich at this one and it has been great, there pan con bistec is not impressive at all. Paper thin steak, paper thin tomato and definitely not tasty. I ordered the queso frito and plantain chip appetizer for an additional $9 and wow what a rip off. Plantain chips were tasty, cheese was drenched in oil and the portion for the price was ridiculous. These days for $35 I expect much more in terms of quality and quantity. Everything on this menu looked so delicious, I had a hard time choosing! Obviously the churrasco fritanga bowl is 10/10, but I wanted to try something different so I got the bistec sandwich, and it was so delicious. The combo of meaty, crunchy, cheesy, was perfect. We got chicken taquitos and queso apps to share, and you can't go wrong. But, the star of the show and my new favorite obsession, is the lemonade! This is actually a limeade and it is the most perfect thing I've ever tasted - so so tart and just the right amount of sweetness, I will be craving this forever. I usually order the churrasco or steak bowls, which have gone up in price a lot, but they are good. Today I walked in and ordered a palomilla steak sandwich and an order of chicken taquitos. First the steak sandwich did not have onions which is advertised as included. The sandwich is pretty small also. I have never had a "pan con bistec" that bad. And the chicken taquitos were only 3 and small at that. They also tasted dry and hard. I usually don't write reviews but I felt I needed to do so today because I was so unhappy. I ordered mine with chicken and the added cilantro sauce, cheese curds and plantains, made it the best and most unique burrito I've ever had in my entire life. Now for the down side... I couldn't order ahead. The place was PACKED. I waited for my order for about 30 minutes. The guava and cheese pastry tasted like a stale bagel with some guava jam inside of it. If you like Nicaraguan food like I do, then head over to Sarussi Cafe.  You will find the same gems you find at your local Fritanga but I felt more gourmet!  The place itself is very clean, updated furniture and a combination of tables and booths.  I LOVED the color of the back of the booths, it had sparkles of gold, and truthfully who doesn't love a little gold here and there to feel more luxurious!  Anyway, the seating was comfortable, we were a party of 5 so we did have one person at the end of the table, but still very comfortable!   I had the Chicken Fritanga bowl, pure deliciousness!  I really loved the cilantro sauce on drizzled on top of everything!  The little blocks of friend cheese and pieces of maduro were so tasty and gave the bowl a sweet taste! The costumer service here is bad, which is why I usually order to go. Today however I ate in because I wanted my sister in law to try the fritanga wrap. The waitress we had was very racist, towards my sister in law who is Mexican. When she started taking our order for what to drink, my sister in law asked if they had agua fresca the waitress responded this is not a Central American restaurant we don't serve Central American food. That comment was unnecessary, and makes no sense considering this location is Cuban and Nicaraguan fusion, and Nicaragua is in Central America. Not once did she check in to see if everything was good, instead stayed focused on the other two tables that were there. When it came time to pay she kept telling us we had to wait for her to finish the other two tables. It was really disappointing and overall odd experience. Loved the cute clean interior and a very friendly staff of people, just wish I didn't have to drive so far to get it, however it was insanely delicious and will come back before going home. The little sweet chunks of plantain blended with the Churrasco and creamy pillows of cheese was a great combo and nice fresh chunks of avocado. Portions are HUGE and I easily got 2 meals out of this MONSTER Burrito. Tip: make sure you grab a fork because you're going to need it haha.
