Generally speaking we have enjoyed our experience dealing with professionals who know our car. We bought used and should have had it checked out before purchasing. We did not and noticed some issues over the coming days. We decided to go here because they deal with our European car. Service has been friendly, they keep you posted on the status of your car, agree on a treatment plan (if you have more than one issue) and provide a timeline and timeframe for work to be done. I liked the amount of feedback we received about our car. I think value is relative. I want my car serviced by someone who "knows" our car and for us the price is worth it. read more

My car had to be towed in from North Lake Tahoe...with an unknown coolant issue... and they diligently determined what the issue was. SAS always answers the phone on first call, always polite and professional. As a female, i do not feel taken advantage of with pricing or information relayed to me. The coolant system on my GTI failed on an extremely hot Reno afternoon, losing all the coolant. SAS accepted delivery, via tow truck, that afternoon, after a telephone discussion with David. The next day we discussed the problem(s) and agreed on the repairs and estimate. The vehicle was repaired and available for pickup 24 hours later. David offered to have Patricia ( nice lady) pick me up at my house. Total bill came in right on estimate, less 2 and 1/2% for paying by check. SAS provided all needed services and more, at estimated price. I recommend them. read more

I recently was in the market for another car for my son. We ran across a 2004 Audi that was quite nice looking. The guy had just bought the car from a mechanic, and found out that the engine was in need of a valve job. He could not afford it, so he was selling it quite cheap. I called my mechanic and he said that he did not work on foreign cars. He recommended SAS. The guy that was selling the car and told me that he got a quote from SAS to fix the engine and it was $10,000. I thought that was just crazy? The owner of the car told me that the car was actually sitting at SAS if I wanted to see it. So I went down, looked at the car and talked with them. he said yes it was $10,000, I asked why so much, he told me that so many things needed to be replaced. he wasn't specific. So I did some research, found a rebuilt engine and asked SAS if they could just put another engine. He said yes and that the book said it would take 11 hours of labor to take everything off the old engine and put it on the new engine. He said I should tack on two more hours to be safe for any extra work. I asked how much they charge per hour he told me $153 an hour. Simple mass put that under $2000. So this actually fit in our budget to have a car with a rebuilt engine. So I asked the guy to write it up. Since the car was there, we were quite happy. The quote came back at $10,000 again. I asked the guy why on earth the price just went up $8000. I mean, I have a rebuilt engine, all the parts on the old car working. The car ran quite well just had a white smoke. The guy told me that the price included replacing all kinds of stuff. He would not be specific. He said they have to charge me for nuts and bolts and every little thing they wanted to put on the engine. This was just crazy. Valve job $10,000, bring in your own rebuilt engine and they will replace it for $10,000. Needless to say, I told the owner of the Audi that we just could not afford to buy his car. He kept in touch with me and found a place that would do the valve job for $1500. Also they said they would put the rebuilt engine in for $2500. So yeah... I do not recommend this place. I'm not sure of if it was just the counter person, because I heard that the owner and the mechanics are quite good here. But I'm pretty sure most people will agree that $10,000 for a valve job is exorbitant. Replacing the engine with a your own rebuilt engine for $10,000 is also just crazy. read more

SAS is my go-to for getting work done on my 2019 Volvo XC40. Paul and his guys are very honest and straightforward regarding repairs. I initially went in because I needed an oil change and my brakes were squeaking. They checked everything and did the oil/filter change and let me know I had a good 10k miles left on those brakes. When I called in after only 5k to sched, they reassured me that I wouldn't need them until my next oil change. They even referred me to another great shop for tires and alignment. Sure enough, when my oil change came due, my brakes were at the recommended change point. Spot on! I truly respect these guys for their honesty and work ethic. They are so much easier to work with than the local dealership and they have a great rate (better bang for your buck). I'll be seeing these guys again in the Spring! read more

I was referred to SAS Automotive and had my BMW 330 Xi service and the first visit went well I do admit. The second visit, not so much. I was having issues with the car not keeping a charge, and my 'passenger side mirror' was not operating. I purchased a new mirror and installed it which took me 30 minutes to take the door panel off, but still was not working. I took my car in and they recommended a new battery and an intelligence battery sensor. I did replace the battery last year by the way. Expenses $1,006 parts $751.50 labor $65.64 Admin fee What! Was not on my paper work but was on my receipt! $1706.59 Total. (They also recommended to replace Engine Coolant Expansion Tank $473 And.. a Footwell Module for $965.03 What!!!) I passed on these. So they installed a new battery and battery sensor for $1706.59 And now both my side mirrors don't work, and my windows don't work from my driver side switches!!! I will not be going back or referring anyone to SAS. read more

Vehicle: 2010 BMW X3 You ever go to repair one problem only to end up with another? Hear my story. Brief: Guy in front is incredibly nice and kindly assisted me with anything I needed. He provides 5-star customer service on his own! I paid around $1,700 to replace my coolant expansion tank, radiator hoses, and water pump. I picked up my car 1 week ago and unfortunately, seem to be running into another, different problem. Detailed Review: Another company that specializes in repairing foreign vehicles tried to charge me $900 alone for replacing my expansion tank. Yes, ridiculous. When I came to SAS, I was provided a complete ledger detailing the costs of parts and labor. They offered me a much better deal! Thursday 8/23/2018 I had my insurance company tow my car to this shop Friday 8/24/2018 I receive a phone call notifying me that they will order the parts to begin working on the vehicle Tuesday 8/28/2018 I'm notified that the car is ready. Thursday 8/30/2018 I pick up the car. I actually end up driving back to the shop because I hear this airplane-like noise which scares me. Once I get to the shop and open the hood, I see that one of the hoses are completely disconnected. The mechanic comes out to look at it and just reconnects the piece. However, as I'm standing there and the car is in idle, it's making a ticking noise. The mechanic doesn't complain, so I don't either. I figure the issue had to do with the disconnected hose, and I was honestly, too intimidated to ask him. Fast forward to 1 week later... Wednesday 9/5/2018 When I pull up to a drive thru, I hear a high pitch whistle, again, while I'm in idle. I accelerate and the sound disappears. After much research, it seems that I now have a possible vacuum leak or there's a problem with the radiator cap. However, when I left SAS I was told that all I needed to do was replace spark plugs some time in the future. I will be returning to SAS to share my concerns and then, I will update this review based on how it goes. Right now, I just feel a little let down after paying so much. read more

Vehicle: 2010 Volvo XC60 I really hate to leave this review as I have been a customer of SAS since I got my Volvo in 2012. I had never had an issue with them until about a year ago. I always went in to get my routine oil changes. I would ask them to look the car over and they were always really good about doing that. They would let me know if something wasn't quite right. I have had batteries replaced, a door lock mechanism replaced, lightbulbs replaced, and countless oil changes. They were 5 stars in my book until recently. When I went to schedule my most recent oil change, I was unable to get a hold of anyone....for a whole month. I called at least 2 times per week. No one ever answered the phone, and I left countless messages which were never returned. It took me physically going to their shop to make an appointment. If that isn't the worst customer service I don't know what is. I finally got my appointment scheduled (in person) for early September 2019. It was just a routine oil change, and asked to please look over the car. Two days later I got a notification that my coolant was extremely low. How strange that I just had my car serviced two days prior, I thought. About two weeks ago I heard a little grinding noise in my front passenger brake. I decided to give another automotive shop a try since getting in touch with SAS takes an act of God. I took my Volvo to Christensen Automotive. I figured when I actually talked to a live body I was off to a good start. They told me it was a rock in my brake pad and my brakes looked fine. They do a 25 point inspection on every car, every time. They notified me that my air filter was COMPLETELY black!!!! Also, one of the grommets (motor mount bushing) that holds the engine in place was completely torn and had likely been that way for quite a while. So that service in September literally was JUST to change my oil and overlook really obvious things like low coolant, torn motor mount bushing, and black air filter. I am really saddened that their customer service has nosedived to the point that they blatantly miss these easy red flags. I am not a mechanic, I don't know what I don't know. I am happy to pay for things to get fixed but if the people I trust with my car don't let me know, what am I supposed to do? I would call to let SAS know how disappointed I am in their service, but I would have to leave a message, only to never be returned. read more

Updating because it turns out that the driver side door lock that SAS Automotive "fixed" turned out to be exactly the thing that set off the alarm again!!! After having taken my Audi home, I left it unlocked. I really didn't want to do anything that night set off the alarm. However, because my family and I were going out of town for the weekend, I finally decided to look the doors. Upon returning home and wanting to get into the car, I went to unlock it via the driver side door and guess what? THE ALARM WENT OFF and I wasn't able to turn it off; it didn't stop until it drained the battery. COMPLETELY UNBELIEVABLE that the very thing that SAS AUTOMOTIVE "fixed" turned out o the the thing that reactivated and set off the alarm. The alarm being the center of the issue for which I took my car to SAS Automotive for in the first place. SO, YES FOLKS, THE EXTENT OF SAS AUTOMOTIVE's RIPPING ME OFF FOR $653.00 HAS NO BOUNDS APPARENTLY. I'm so disgusted. read more

After many years of positive experiences our recent visits have left us bewildered. Took our X5 in for oil change and anti-freeze leak. Car continues to leak after taking it back twice and having paid $1500. Told us today it's a different hose and would be $800. We counted on their expertise to know which one was leaking. It appears as though we paid them to change non leaking parts? Not sure what's happened with them but certainly not the standard of care that we had previously received. read more

They will not follow their quotes, they will call you and give you some song & dance about why the quote was off and they need to charge you more. They will tell you their mechanic cannot remove your tires when you get a brake job then sweet talk you into more service and surprise you at the end with the an enormous bill. Sometime later you will find their mistakes and pay dearly for them. Steer clear of these guys. I've lived in Reno forever and have never had a worse experience than with this shop. ( IF ) you so choose to do business with them make sure you check all of your belongings in your car before you leave the premises. Our family traveled 250 miles with our back window open since it had gotten stuck en route to Reno from California - We did not know the area and were referred to SAS Automotive for repair. They went over and above - Not only did they stop what they were doing, they had "all hands on deck" ... and as if that wasn't enough, they wouldn't even charge us for the repair. Their offices and restrooms were sanitary and clean. Beyond that each of their team members were amazingly courteous, professional and friendly ... I can't say enough wonderful things about this organization. If I lived in the Reno area I would make sure they had all my business as well as my family and anyone else I could refer to them. If you happen to own a European automobile this is the place for you. I met these great auto technicians after I acquired a Audi All Road. I've wanted one for years and finely found one. All was right in the world until... I tried to start the car with out any luck. Long story short I had it towed to SAS Automotive. After a short discussion with the man behind the counter if learned that depending what the problem was this might get real pricy. So I told him to do what they do and let me know. Turned out it was just a disconnected wire on the fuel pump, cost to diagnose the car and fix the problem, was then I was expecting. The reason I wanted to write this review and recommendation is because this firm is honest, fair and professional. They could have told me anything, yet honesty is their best policy, and I Recommend them to you. read more

Took my car in with no service engine light and when I picked it up it said service engine soon and they changed the price of the original problem 2-3 times. they also said they had to break something in order to be able to fix it! Meh... lackluster and little in the way of customer service. I needed to replace a seal in my transmission. They charged me over $600 for an inspection that was not needed and then called and asked if I wanted them to finish the estimate. This shop was an expensive waste of time. Wanted to comment on the absolutely unbelievable job done by Paul to help us with our Volvo! We were totally blown away by an electrical problem and he personally took the time to use every trick he had in the book to get it to work without requiring parts. Refused to take a tip - and I would have offered him our first child under the stress we had. LOL :-) It's only a place like Reno that has people who really do go at it 150%. We are so grateful! Be careful with these guys. I have a 2008 BMW wagon. It had a coolant leak so I take it in and specifically asked them to make sure my air was working before they returned it to me. $1,600!!! later I pick it up and tell me why my AC isn't cold...not even close. Heat didn't get hot either. But I didn't have time to take it back so I deal with it. Not even 3 weeks later my car says "coolant low", how? I just took it in and replaced the water pump, thermostat, and hose. So I take it in AGAIN and these guys tell me the Mickey Mouse hose and water valve need to be replaced. $940!! later my mom picks it up for me since I was out of town that day. AC STILL DOESNT WORK. After I told them AGAIN make sure my air works! Both AC and heat! So I take it in AGAIN. The whole time my car had no freon (refrigerant) in it. You're German auto specialists and it took you 3 trips and $2,500 of my money to realize this?? I will never be going back. read more

This shop is awesome and honest. Son dropped off his bmw 745 bc issues with the parking brake and brakes making a bad noise. I had recently fixed the brakes and was confused on the issue. SAS inspected the brakes, turns out there was gravel stuck in the calibers from son's driveway causing the noise and a simple recalibration of the parking brake fixed everything. When he got the bill SAS said no charge. Amazingly honest, very professional, and they know BMWs. Thanks guys. read more

Mazda service Agincourt. quiet a good service but everytime i brought my cx5 for service disappointment is always part of it. it took them 2 months to finish the factory defective body paint. and when I called after 2 months they rush the body paint that ended to rushing leaving some paint residue in and outside of the car and now you can see spots of paint when hit by a sun. those people in the service dept. is having problem when it comes to communication. their service is too poor. read more

I saw the $100 any service coupon, so I called to make an appointment for the power steering pump to get installed. No one ever called me back. A week later, I called again. I asked for an estimate and he said: "Let me look up the part," to which I replied I already had the part, a brand new in box part. "Sorry, we don't install customer supplied parts," he said. Really? Why Not? It's brand new. "It's a liability issue. We could get sued if the part fails." I've never heard of that in my life. And I work in the law. What a joke! The law says you can't install used tires, but in actuality you are only liable for labor if all you did was the labor and the part failed. I wouldn't want someone working on my car who wasn't aware of the law in the state they operate in. Go elsewhere. Anywhere else will let you bring in your parts and will be getting my money. read more

I have been taking my 2008 Volvo C70 to SAS for many years now and I have never had any issues with the service received. These gentlemen are ALWAYS polite, respectful and nice to work with. After a 'chain of events' occurred with my vehicle through different establishments (tire rotation, battery check, battery warranty, new battery, alternator failed), I was able to get my vehicle into SAS. After the alternator was changed I had a low beam out message and then my check engine light went off as well. UGH. I thrust SAS immensely with my vehicle and they were able to get me in within a couple of days. The check engine light ended up being a PCV (positive crankcase ventilation - leak). They FIXED all the vehicle issues, but when I drove into my garage the car died and I had no power, NONE. This ended up being a battery issue (again) the cables would not stay tightened. After speaking to Paul, he said to bring the car back in the same day or next day and they would look at the battery for me as they had not touched it previously. When I returned Paul advised the battery cables were loose and fixed that issue and advised me to consider replacing the battery cable(s) very soon. I"M GOING TO! In closing, I highly highly recommend SAS, Paul, Jon, and Mike (office crew) are FANTASTIC and the mechanics who have ever worked on my vehicle present and past...THANK YOU!!! read more

We were in a spot of bother with my wife's Mini. It was making a terrible racket form under the front end. We took it to our regular shop only to find that they didn't have the proper tool to work on it. We talked to Scott about it and had it towed to SAS as he said they could possibly look at it that day (Friday). Well they did get it in and were able to repair it on the following Monday. They repaired it and got it back to us as promised on that afternoon. All is now well in Mini Land. We really appreciate that they could get it in on such short notice and that they could repair it and get it back to us in one day. They will now be our go to shop for all things Mini! Scott's dad used to work on my old SAAB years ago and I'm glad to see the quality of service continues to the next generation. Kudos to SAS! read more

After my last harrowing experience with Bill Pierce, I have been in the market for a new shop to take my Volvo, which has been having more and more issues of late. I've been bouncing around from place to place, and no one REALLY seems to know what they're doing with Swedish cars. I'll have something fixed, and a week or two later it's something else. The car is old, very old, but over the last two years I've put more money into fixing it than I paid for it in the first place. I was recommended this place by a fellow Volvo enthusiast, and boy was she right. Paul and his staff are knowledgeable, courteous, and most importantly, upfront. As I feared my old V70 had reached the end of her tether, at least for me. He explained that the work required (a new transmission) might not be worth it, and that money might be better spent getting started on a new car. I was taken aback by his candor, but I really did appreciate it. It takes a really honest mechanic to tell you NOT to have work done. Then, I think sensing my incipient depression over the realization of losing a beloved and faithful vehicle, he didn't even charge me for the diagnosis. Really really stand-up guys here. I accepted a few of their recommendations on where to begin the hunt for a good used car, and promised I'd be back. Even if I wind up in a car of another nationality, I will return to Swedish Auto Service for the prices and the people. read more

I've been the owner of my 2004 Volvo XC90 for over a year now, and when everything went bad at my other mechanic (they accidentally routed my rear windshield sprayer to spray the inside of the car, while they were replacing the washer pump) I took it over to SAS and Paul had the part my old mechanic "couldn't find" within 24 hours. Several major and minor repairs/maintenance jobs later, and I have come to the conclusion that I will never take my XC90 anywhere else, Paul and his crew have taken such great care of me and my car the minute I drove up, are incredibly professional, and know Volvo's inside and out! read more
