CAN I GIVE 6 STARS?! I have been taking my Volvo here for a few years. Always quality service for a reasonable price. However, I must mention my most recent experience. It was Friday afternoon about 4:30 and the flap on the gas tank flew off when filling up. A piece went flying and was lost underneath another car. As a "Hail Mary" I hauled booty over to SAS because I had tried calling and the line was busy. I got there about 10 minutes before closing. Despite being clearly very busy with other customers, Scott took my remaining parts and personally stepped away from the desk to repair the flap for me. All for about $26! I really appreciated him staying late on a Friday to help me with my problem. I had no idea what this would cost and was extremely happy with the low cost and accommodating attitude. SAS is absolutely the premiere shop in Northern Nevada for Volvos ( and anything else they'll do you the pleasure of working on). They have consistently treated me and my 2005 XC90 very well. Often times as women, or simply those who may not be mechanically inclined, it's difficult to gauge how much of what you are being told is truth & how much of what you are charged is necessary. Certainly the stereotype of shady mechanics arose from somewhere- and SAS and their team have worked hard to turn that tide in the opposite direction. I'm not the type to normally Yelp complain. I consider myself a pretty patient and easy going person but my experience here was upsetting to say the least. Basically, they had my car for a week and EVERY step of the way I had to call them and feel like a pest to get ANY info whatsoever. That's not a good feeling when your only other transport is a motorcycle in December. I understand the nature of the auto shop business and didn't have unrealistic expectations, but not once from the day my car was towed did they initiate a call to me. The last day it was there they told me my issue would be better handled at another shop they recommended. But guess how I found this out? I had called them since I hadn't heard anything. So they already knew this and hadn't decided to let me know? I understand they're a very busy shop, but communicating that to me would have been ok and I would have simply taken it somewhere else. Instead they took my car and proceeded to blow me off for a week. Not cool. Bad customer service experience. Sent my car to another shop, who called me back the next day like they said they would and had it fixed that same day. read more

THE ONLY PLACE I'LL TAKE MY BMW! My service engine light came on over the weekend and I called SAS to see when I could bring it in. Paul made room in the schedule for me this morning. He found the service engine soon light was caused by vanos intake cam. Paul explained the issue to me and provided the suggested fix. They ended up performing an engine cleaner and an oil change. For SAS to pull the codes, do the engine clean, the oil change, and reset the computer it cost me $128.35. That is by far the best deal i've ever paid in my seven years of owning this car. This place has been decent. Have been taking my car here it's whole existence since bill pierce was a nightmare but recently I haven't been happy with SAS. I've asked them two times if they could change the transmission fluid due to rough shifts and both times they've said "no, it doesn't need it" yet the shifts have only gotten rougher. I took it to get serviced last month and I expected a 100,000 mile service but instead I got "98,000 mile service" whatever that is. And due to this it got nothing but oil and an absurd amount of $ for just rear brakes. Spark plugs were definitely due because just today the car started sputtering and I suspect it's because the spark plugs haven't been changed in about 50k miles. I'm honestly at the point where I'm done with shops and will just learn to do EVERYTHING my self. Couldn't imagine that this place doesn't screw people over from time to time. read more

I asked Paul (mechanic) to do a pre purchase inspection on an older model bmw that I was thinking about buying. Paul was very though and honest with me. He could have easily mislead me but he didn't. Paul and the rest of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about my Volvo XC70. I've been bringing my car here for a couple of years for service and repairs with satisfactory results! Coming from Wisconsin, I was hesitant with just any mechanics working on my vehicle and the Volvo dealer is super pricey and busy. The prices here are reasonable considering it's a Volvo and I can always get an appointment right away. If my car will be there longer than expected, I can get a nice rental car for a great price. One time the rental car was FREE when the problem took a bit longer to diagnose & repair. I was inconsiderate and dropped in on these guys twice without an appointment to install a headlight and they didn't hesitate to pop it in and send me on my way! read more

Let me be the next person to bang the drum as I hop on the SAS Bandwagon...these guys are AWESOME!!! THEY ACTUALLY LIKE WHAT THEY DO! THEY ARE HONEST! THEY ARE PROFESSIONAL! And, they communicate clearly to their customers. Now, the back story...I was in the market to purchase a late model low mileage BMW, and I wanted it inspected professionally. The boys at SAS went into this car with verve and expertise...it wasn't long after they started their inspection that it was evident the vehicle had had at least one body panel replaced, and that there were other indications of major repairs...(GAME OVER), AND the inspection was DONE W/O CHARGE...("We like to perform inspections as a courtesy to our customers") When is the last time you heard words to that effect come out of a mechanic's mouth? I have been a BMW enthusiast for the past 35 years (please don't hold it against me...lol)...I have worked as a service writer, and built at least one "non-imported" (grey market) vehicle that was featured in a national magazine. And, as these vehicles become more sophisticated, and computer oriented, I realize just how much I do not know with regard to repairs...enter SAS! I always smile when I recall how I was treated by the staff at SAS. (honest...they are THAT GOOD!) And, after I find the vehicle for which I am searching, I truly believe it would be in my best interest to drive "over the mountain" and trust my servicing to SAS. SAS has always been friendly, courteous and reasonably priced for repairs. My whole family and a few of my friends are repeat customers.

Buying a Saab may not have been one of my brighter ideas, from a maintenance standpoint. SAS is the only place we've found (including the nearest "authorized dealership" in Sacramento) that makes us feel welcome! Recently they replaced a headlight (they provided) and windshield wipers (we provided) within minutes, on a drop-in basis, and only charged us for the lamp. In a bit more distant past they troubleshot an electrical problem. Although we still had to go to the "authorized dealer" the information SAS gave us provided ammunition to argue our case when the dealer said they needed a couple more days; it was done an hour and a half later. We won't take this car anywhere else if we can avoid it. read more

Do NOT take your car here. We were referred by Reno Vulcanizing since we have a European Car (not sure about Reno Vulcanizing on Virginia either!). SAS did NOT do their own diagnostic but fixed what Reno Vulcanizing said was wrong. However, $500 later, the check engine light came back on during the DRIVE HOME. When we took it back they charged us for a diagnostic and gave a $2000 estimate. We took it to the Dealer and for less than $500 the problem was diagnosed and fixed. read more

Ridiculous company. Checked the car out for about 3 minutes , told me what was wrong. I made the mistake of trusting their word and went ahead and ordered the part. Went a few days without a vehicle waiting, finally got it in, and they said it would take about 2 hours and they would call me. I never received a call, so i called them. He told me they haven't even started and also that they ordered the wrong part and more was broken. I then learned they quoted me the wrong and part and i waited for nothing. They weren't helpful with price at all for the part i really needed, and blamed it on me even though they diagnosed it wrong. Rude people and bad service. Great service and honest prices. I lived in Reno for 3.5 years and took my two Volvos there. A friend visiting had his Audi breakdown while in town and also too his car there, he was very impressed with the job and prices. They are never trying to push unnecessary services. A few years ago I contacted this business about a Saab I wanted to purchase. The guy basically told me how hard the parts are to get and was not helpful at all with me. Just recently, inquired with this business (again) about an engine for another Saab AND AGAIN- I got no help from the gentleman (not sure if it's the same one) and was told how hard the parts are to get and that he may not have what is needed for the vehicle. I understand parts are hard to get, but I am willing to pay the price for it and wouldn't expect this from a business that specializes in these specific cars. Was having transmission hiccups with our XC70. Though our local mechanic did a diagnostic for us, we wanted a second opinion, and came here. Mind you, we're about an hour away, so it took some time out of our day. Took car in for check as I walked around for an hour. When I came back, they had the results and went over them with me. Very complete, then told me they'd get an accurate estimate for repairs (new tranny), and call me the next day. As of this writing, I have yet to hear from them (over a month), though the repair was done by our local mechanic for less then a quarter the price SAS thought it would cost, and it didn't involve a new tranny. I love this place. I moved here from Los Angeles and had my car inspected a week before the move (it's a long drive). They did an early maintenance check up for my and I was on my way. Upon my arrival, I wanted to have it inspected again because I past the mileage for the maintenance and really just needed the maint. light to be reset (I just had that maintenance performed early) and a quick checkup. I originally took it to Bill Pierce who insisted that I had over $5,000 worth of damage that needed repair immediately... I called my place in LA to see why they didn't see it and they said unless I just caused all this damage, they did not see it because it wasn't there.... I shopped around and found SAS. They took my car in and said it was in great condition, but Bill Pierce was correct on ONE item out of about eight needing replacement... he was also overpriced by almost $500 on that one item. I have been taking my car to SAS for 2 years now.... they are incredible... I wouldn't consider going anywhere else! PS... I drive a Volvo, there aren't many places that specialize in Volvo here... but this is the best even when there is a large selection of honest dealers. Hands down the best service I have received from an auto shop. Took my BMW to Bill Pearce for an inspection and was told I had a few things wrong with it adding up to about $800 worth of work. I decided to shop around and I'm so glad I did. I was referred to SAS and they went above and beyond to help me. Everything that Bill Pearce told me I needed they found was not necessary or way over priced. I ended up picking up my car and they didn't even charge me to have it looked at and a bolt replaced (that Bill Pearce was going to charge $300 to replace/fix). So thankful I went here they saved me a ton of money and were very honest, plus their customer service was excellent. Will definitely be going here again! read more

I can't say enough positive things about Paul & Scott and the team at SAS. They are all around great - kind, responsive, and they really know their stuff. They sure did right by us when we were in a difficult spot - our car broke down 200+ miles from home. It turned out to be the end of the road for our 2004 Volvo XC90, but they went out of their way to guide us through the process - providing advice and referrals that were right on the money, despite the fact that they weren't going to earn any revenue servicing the car. SAS initially misdiagnosed a problem with our Audi which led to three months of tail-chasing and several thousands of $$ trying to solve the issue. When the problem turned out to be exactly what I told them it was on day one, Paul owned the mistake and made it right.
