Serious southern/soul food is served here. The food is served cafeteria-style with a server. He was super friendly and helpful. The place is clean. Pictures tell the story. We really liked it.

Chicken fried steak, stewed okra, collard greens and sliced potatoes.

Absolutely delicious. Generous portions, many choices and everything was tasty. 5 of us ate here and everyone loved what they got. Chicken fried steaks were large and crispy. The greens and cabbage were amazing and my hubby swore the dressing was the same as his grandmas. Very polite and helpful staff, we will definitely be back.

Very tasty and satisfying Southern food. I really don't think it gets any better than this. Service is off the hook. Was served by Iman pronounced (E maun) , she did an awesome service for us .

Oh My GOODNESS!!! Best home cookin in Texas! My mom and I stopped by on Monday, our first day in Waco, and George greeted us warmly and apologized for being closed. But he chatted with us, recommended a good burger spot, Double R, and sent us off with some buttermilk pie! Best darn buttermilk pie I've ever eaten! So we came back Tuesday and oh my... it all looked so yummy. I had beef necks and smoked sausage, Mac n cheese and cabbage. My momma had fried chicken, squash casserole, cabbage and mashed potatoes. We got dessert to go... peach cobbler and banana pudding, and 6 smoked sausage to take home to our hubbies!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you stop here and eat when in Waco. Yes the building is older but much of Waco is. It's very nice and clean and the people are amazing Ohhh and they serve you cornbread

Smothered pork chops, dressing, okra and fried cabbage.

Served with a perfect burrata with green pesto that was most divine- fresh as can be. Mocktails are always my choice and there's a blackberry mocktail made fresh intensely flavored berries that's a wow. So being from Oklahoma my favorite meal is fried chicken and mashed potatoes. We split a plate and we were not sorry. The perfect little chicken gravy pitcher- piping hot- w a generous helping of sauce served two easily. For desert there's an extensive selection ( including strawberry shortcake) but we opted for just plain latte made impeccably. Congratulations. You've really made America's best restaurant imo! We loved it. Coming from NYC we are spoiled for great food. But you have a 5 star accomplishment in this place. Perfectly wonderful. A million thanks-- what a memorable meal!

The atmosphere is beautiful, the restaurant is clean, and the staff was friendly and attentive, so no complaints there. As for the food, it was just... okay. It wasn't bad by any means, but it also wasn't anything that made me think the drive or the hype was worth it. Everything tasted decent, just pretty average for the price. I expected to be wowed, but instead it felt like a solid breakfast spot with great branding. If you're already in Waco, it's worth checking out once for the experience and the ambiance. But if you're making a special trip just for the food, keep your expectations realistic.

The Burger was good but the steak bowl was very disappointing. It was $19 but the portion was incredibly small, I think it was one of the most expensive items in the menu, if not the most and it was really small. In particular the deviled eggs and Brussels sprouts caught my eye, unfortunately the latter was sold out so I went with the sweet potato Both dishes I had were really good! The candied bacon paired really nicely with the creamy deviled egg, the hot sauce vinaigrette didn't add too much flavor, but honestly adding a significant amount of heat would've probably taken away from an already very tasty dish. The baked sweet potato on the other hand had a nice dose of heat from the Calabrian honey vinaigrette, the sweet heat combo worked really, I'm surprised I'd never come across a spicy sweet potato dish before, but I'll definitely have my eye out for it in the future Overall I had a very good experience and will definitely be back for future rest stop meals between Austin and Dallas!

We were greeted as soon as we walked in and directed to choose a table of our preference. The waitress quickly came over and grabbed our drink order while we looked at the menu. We placed our order and the waitress was very knowledgeable and able to answer our questions. She also informed us they work as a team so we can stop anyone when/if we need something. We started with the "Burning Bush" appetizer (crispy Brussel sprouts w/ lemon garlic aioli). YUM! They had just the right bite to them, and the glaze on them paired with the aioli was delicious! For our entrees we had the Golden Calf Burger w/ sweet potato fries and sriracha aioli and The Weight of Glory Sandwich w/ broccoli slaw. They were both incredibly flavorful and fresh! You can tell they locally source their ingredients and prepare them onsite. The portions are also plentiful, and we left with a takeout box. To round off lunch we tried the special mousse on the specials board (coffee flavored cheesecake mousse). It was so delightful we dug in before I could snap a pic. Just enough coffee flavor paired with chocolate sauce (not hersheys ). The big windows allow for a lot of natural light and lends to a welcoming and warm environment. We will for sure be back and bring others!

Off its first appearance, the restaurant appears as your classic no-frills, get-what-you-asked for establishment. There is lots of outdoor seating, very fair pricing, and a surprisingly extensive menu; I doubt you'll fail to find something you enjoy here. Overall it seemed like a location that would be bumping in conjunction with Baylor college nights, post church service, or otherwise Waco-oriented affairs. My only complaint was really the smell. We came near close when some workers were cleaning, however there was an apparent chemical stench within the patio, between the inside seating and outdoor seating. My partner ordered the sausage po boy, while I ordered the fried chicken plate, wish mashed potatoes & gravy + green beans. The wait was rather long, which can be attributed towards the chicken's cook time - which might be front scratch. After we got our plates, I certainly couldn't complain. The chicken was decently sized and decadent with flavor. Consistent, strong Cajun spicing littered the tray and chicken, while its interior was extremely juicy and filled with flavor; additionally, it still maintained structure and provided a nice crunch on the surface. The mashed potatoes were equally as enjoyable. The gravy complemented the potatoes well, and established an equilibrium through texture. The green beans however, were not my favorite. They initially appeared fine on the surface, but became watered down and lacking in flavor the farther down the bowl you went. I would not be surprised if these beans were canned. I would certainly find myself eating here again. Its biggest appeals are the prices, genuine quality of food, and disposition. It is not perfect, but it is more than satisfactory. If you cannot get over the minor inconveniences that you may run into here, then you probably shouldn't be eating Cajun anyways.
