Get here as soon as you can! I know I'll be back. We stopped by for lunch and we had a treat. The selections of main dishes and vegetables were ample. My eyes wanted to two meat plate, but by the time my plate was loaded with three vegetables, including cabbage, carrots, and mashed potatoes, and the smothered pork chop was being settled onto the plate, I decided one meat might just do for lunch. Yelp definitely came through today. Been traveling and working in Texas for last year and have grown tired of having only Steak or Mexican to choose from. I need to work on taking photos but this place was awesome! Our waiter was very sweet and attentive. Thr corn bread was fantastic. I had catfish with greens and Mac and cheese. I think all 4 of us had mac and cheese. One had a side of the carrots... LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING! I HATE cooked carrots....despise them. That was probably the most amazing cooked veggie that has ever graced my mouth! I cannot! It basically tasted like sweet potatoes but better because I dont like those either. I just felt like I was eating candy. They have a regular menu and a buffet. My wife and I walked to Sascees and without a doubt the best place we have eaten at since we arrived two days ago. The staff is amazing and the food is to die for. A must try is the collard greens as they are cooked for over 2 hours with turkey. This was different but the flavor was outstanding. Also had fried chicken, mash potatoes and white gravy (a Texas staple), black eye peas and cabbage. All were awesome. read more

Amazing food and friendly staff. We were visiting Waco and decided to give this place a shot based on very good Yelp reviews. I am so glad we did. The corn bread was warm and fresh with a great buttery flavor. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly with the skin being seasoned with just the right amount of flavor. The cornbread stuffing and black eyed peas were also delicious. We shared a peach cobbler that was so good. The entire staff were very accommodating and made you feel right at home. Total neighborhood gem. It doesn't look like much from the outside but you're warmly greeted when entering and the good service doesn't stop there. We walked up to the Buffett on Saturday afternoon where they explained all the choices. Each plate comes with 1-3 meats and 3 sides. First and last time..Reviews lead us to stop here for lunch on the way to Austin. The food was horrible dry cold meat loaf, wet soggy rice, vinegary salty cabbage, gravy was thick & oily and to top it off the food was cold. Best thing on the menu was the glass of water.. Wanted to like it. We went in early on Saturday evening and there happened to be live music. That is not a bad thing but during dinner it should be ambiance and not entertainment like in a bar at 10 pm. The music was overly loud and made for an uncomfortable dining experience. The music is an observation since it is not always part of the dining experience. It did not factor into my star rating. I tried the chicken and waffles. They are part of the appetizers so it was pre-cut with a bite of chicken on a bit of waffle, so that was odd. I asked for gravy versus syrup. The gravy was very thick and floury. Gravy should coat the back of the spoon not stick to it. The chicken was dry and the waffle was underwhelming. My dining companion said that the chicken fried steak breading was too salty. My overall impression of the menu as it was lacking. Also rather unique in that bread is considered a side and not an accompaniment. Never seem that. read more

This place is a local owned place with great food and service. I mean you will feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. I wanted some good regional home cooked food and this is definitely the place to go for that. Looks like it was previously a home but now set up as a restaurant don't worry if you see lots of cars up front just park on the opposite corner and walk in lots of people order there food to go from the buffet line. All you have to do is tell the people working the line which dishes you would like and the charge goes by how many types of protein choices you pick such as pork chops and fried chicken as I had and then on Sundays you get three sides so I chose mashed potatoes and gravy with Mac and cheese and fried cabbage with bacon. For dessert I had peach cobbler. I had an Arnold Palmer for drink came to $13.00. Everything was cooked to perfection the fried chicken was fresh the cobbler was sweet. Came here on a Sunday for the buffet. Got the meatloaf, potatoes, and the green beans. The food was excellent and was served to us cafeteria-style by the gentleman behind the buffet. Portions were good and we were stuffed by the end of the meal. The meal and the menu seemed a bit overpriced, but I got what I was looking for from my experience. Pronounced sassy's, this place didn't look like much when I first walked in, but it was AMAZING! And I don't say that lightly. Everything was home cooked and perfectly seasoned. I had the pot roast and 3 sides: Black eyed peas (omg!!) sweet potatoes (very sweet, be warned) and dressing (came with gravy and cranberry sauce). I also tried the fried chicken which was perfectly crispy and the seasoning was amazing. Cabbage was tasty! WTH....I get so mad when reviews are misleading. Not only was it terrible, it was expensive. It is a buffet with Luke warm food. The vegetables were bland. Baked chicken had no flavor. Meat loaf was dry. Didn't get our drinks until half our food was gone. The buffet was $12.00 a person plus $2.00 for a drink. We are trying to support local restaurants, but this one won't get another chance. read more
