I hadn't had a haircut in 568 days. The last person to cut my hair was David, so naturally, when I finally decided it was time again, I went back to him. David is a Master Stylist, but honestly, I'd just call him a master of his craft. This was actually my second visit with him. The first was on New Year's Eve 2024, and I left wondering why getting my hair cut had somehow felt like a healing session. I know that sounds dramatic, but I don't know how else to describe it. There was never any pressure to make conversation, but if conversation happened naturally, great. He somehow creates an environment where you're just... allowed to exist. As someone who spends most of my life taking care of everyone else, that's incredibly rare. This visit happened to be on my birthday, so I decided to actually treat myself. I booked online and added what I thought was simply a shine treatment. Turns out I accidentally booked a color gloss service because I know approximately nothing about hair. I have completely virgin hair, don't color it, and haven't really done anything beyond haircuts for well over 25 years. David sat down with me first and asked what I wanted, how much length I hoped to keep, and what my goals were. My answer was basically, "I trust you." When you only get your hair cut every year and a half, you know some length has to go. He did an initial trim, taking about five inches off the bottom before sending me over to the next step. An assistant washed my hair, and then I met with Brittany. When Brittany asked what I wanted, I gave her the incredibly helpful answer of, "I don't know... shiny?" She very reasonably reminded me that she'd only just met me, so I explained that I'm extremely low-maintenance, don't color my hair, and wasn't looking for anything dramatic. Whatever she did... Magic. I honestly don't know what treatment she chose, but my hair looks fuller, thicker, shinier, and healthier than it has in years. After that, another assistant washed everything out, and I need whoever trained these assistants to know they're doing something right. The scalp massage alone was worth showing up. Temples, forehead, scalp, neck... holy magic hands. I think I briefly transcended. Then I went back to David, and that's when he worked his real magic. He finished my haircut, shaped everything, blended my layers beautifully, and gave me exactly the bangs I'd been hoping for. I had walked in with waist-length hair and walked out with hair just below my shoulders. That's not "just a trim." That's a haircut. And I absolutely love it. David explained that because of my cowlick, he intentionally kept my bangs a little lighter to start rather than making them too dense immediately. It wasn't just someone following a trend or doing what I asked without thinking... it was someone using over 40 years of experience to make the decision that would actually work best for my hair. That's exactly why I trust him. The entire experience felt restorative. Between the quiet moments, the kindness from every person I interacted with, Brittany's treatment, the assistants who somehow have healing hands, and David's incredible skill, I walked out feeling like a completely different person. Apparently, my mistake has been waiting 568 days between appointments. I don't pamper myself very often. Honestly, I almost never do. But every single time I leave Sassoon, I remember how important it is to occasionally let someone else take care of you. She asked me to show photos of myself with haircuts I liked best, not just pictures of models. She also asked how much time I realistically wanted to spend styling my hair each day. I've lost curl since moving here to the arid southwest and she gave me some more lightness and lift. I love it! This is a modern shag with lots of layering and texture that Jesika does so well. I just moved here from the South and had a lot more curl there due to the humidity. Coming to this salon was a game changer for me. I've been back twice since and will continue to return. The salon is located in old town Scottsdale on a quiet corner with large picture windows and a calm friendly vibe inside. I also get the best hair wash/head massage from Christian whenever I go in for my hair appointment. (Here: no product, wash at night and air dry while sleeping) I originally went to the Sassoon Salon in Costa Mesa when we lived in California and received the best ever pixie cuts and short shag cuts back in the 2000's and early 2010's. I've been coming to Sassoon for years. My hairstyle has changed a lot throughout the years and I've had everything from a precision cut with a fringe to a pixie cut and long boho waves. My schedule is really all over the place so I've gotten my cuts with Sophie, Tobias, Nicole and Jesika and had my highlights with Tara and Brittany. In the winter time when the out of state people come back to town, I know I HAVE to plan ahead and book my appointments because they fill up FAST. I went platinum blonde and it took a few appointments to get the perfect color but that was explained to me and getting regular cuts and using the right shampoo & conditioner that I got there made a HUGE difference in my color and texture. Vidal Sassoon has given me the best haircuts of my life! I've tried to find comparable stylists and they just don't exist. Unless I can find someone trained from Vidal Sassoon working at a different salon, I'll always be disappointed. I started getting my hair cut at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, CA (where they teach stylists how to cut and color). That in and of itself made me a firm believer in the magic they can create. Every time I'd leave the salon I'd get numerous comments on how good my hair looked. I always felt like a million bucks. When I moved to Arizona I tired a couple of well-known salons before settling back with Vidal Sassoon. No other salon compares. It's well worth the money for the cut, and trust me, forking over $80 just for a cut and tip doesn't come easily to me! It took a lot of disappointment with other stylists to come to the conclusion that they're worth the money. After going to the Academy for years (and paying next to nothing) for cuts and colors, I listened to the instructors teach students how to cut. First, the actual way the hair is cut is different than other schools; this is the main reason why their cuts are FAR superior in my opinion. You can tell by the way your hair feels and moves when you leave the salon. This may sound silly but it feels like it's a part of your body and not just an extension of it. That's the best way I can describe it. In fact, I've found their cuts look better the less styling you do to them. Plus, they're long lasting, and don't require you to come back every 2 months. The stylists have said I could wait 3 months to get it re-cut, and possibly make it last 4. They weren't joking. That saves money and when you break it down, the price is comparable to most nicer salons. I've found one of the truest tests of a good haircut is how well it grows out. Any cut can look good the first month (if styled properly and colored well) but only a FANTASTIC cut comes out looking good 2 months down the road without any styling or blow drying. If you can get it to look great 3 or 4 months down the road? Well that's beyond belief in my opinion. I'm adventurous with my cuts, and they love that. They're not afraid to cut your hair in an extreme fashion if that's what you want. They're also very good about sticking to your original plan for your hair and not diverting you away from your idea (and thus having it come out being exactly the opposite of what you want). As the saying goes "don't worry it'll grow back" but considering it took six months of COVID to grow out my lustrous luxurious mane and less than a half hour to get butchered - adding insult to injury was that it was the most expensive haircut I ever got but I figured with long hair I'd splurge to get a style worked into the wonderful palate I presented. First time I've ever cried after leaving a salon. After a few days the sorrow has tuned to rage. I'll probably need to whack it all off and start over with the horror show style (oxymoron) I got. I scheduled a haircut and was pleased regarding their Covid safety protocols. The receptions is it greeted me and then informed me she would like to leave and close out the register so could I pay and tip before my cut. I said ok although this seemed weird and tipped 20%. The stylist whose name I don't recall greeted me and seemed put off. She then did about a 30 second consult- I told her I would like long loose layers... she then interjected and said, "you hair is thin, so I can't do many layers." Wow!!! What a way to insult a client upon meeting them. Yes the actual strands of my hair are then but I have quite a bit. I asked her to take off enough for it to be healthy and we agreed on two inches. She proceeded to cut off at least 4-5 inches and kept dragging her con through my hair pulling and breaking strands. She could've used a wet brush or detangling comb instead of raking through my hair. She finished the cut which is even but minus any sort of shape or style. Then she proceeded to put at least 5 different profits into my hair and styled it with the passion of a depressed person. My hair looked better when I arrived. $200 something dollars later and my cut looks no better the day after. The people running this place need an attitude adjustment and some people skills... will not be going back don't waste your time or money. 10/10 will not go back. I call back and get the name of the stylist and update the post this weekend. read more

Jessica cut my hair so freaking short! Has absolutely zero style and I look like the little Dutch boy on the paint can. Can't pull it back, up...nothing! I think it looks like a round basketball on my head. Ages me...and NOT what I asked for. After telling her how I didn't want it like this..there it was. I'm physically ill over this hair cut. Have cancelled an upcoming trip as it looks that bad. She's not my normal stylist...but the one I use as cancelled a couple times and she was the only one available. Spent 190.00 out the door to look freaking ridiculous. I'm actually crying while I'm writing this. I'm a loyal Sassoon customer from San Francisco who recently moved to Sedona. I've been here twice and both times my color and cut was just okay. The salon is small, the staff is clicky and speaks mostly to each other. They didn't really take an interest in me as a client. I was just one of many. Certainly NOT the experience I have had over 20 years in San Francisco. I made an appointment in February to get my hair colored, but got a voice message the day of the appointment that the colorist was ill. Remember, I'm driving two hours to go to the Salon and I was already on my way. I received no follow up call with either an apology or a suggested time to rebook. . When I called to reschedule, because they only have one colorist, I couldn't get in. The receptionist was evasive and snippy when I asked her a direct question about the number of colorists available. I find their phone and reception staff consistently haughty and abrupt. Okay, you're working at a high-end salon in Phoenix, but you're not the movie star or wealthy you are serving. You are answering phones! For Goodness Sakes, Stop with the Attitude! I have to go back to San Francisco frequently and will get my hair done there. It's worth the cost and I can avoid this mediocre salon with high prices and smug employees. read more

I've always been very happy with the cuts I get here. Not just the first day, but in the weeks after. For over 16 years, Ronaldo has been cutting my hair. He starts every appointment with an assessment, and always asks me how the last cut worked out. Sometimes, I ask him for new things, like cutting bangs, or growing out my bangs, and he always works with my hair to give me what I want. He takes the time to educate me about how to achieve the same look at home. If you are looking for a great salon, I heartily recommend Vidal Sassoon and Ronaldo. I have been going to Sasson Salon for over a year now and I cannot say enough great things about the salon and the staff. The front desk is always so helpful and I love their style. Ben Ko has literally saved my life when it comes to my crazy thick curly hair. I have had many "curly hair experts" cut my hair but no one can even come close to taking my crazy mane to totally tame like Ben. I used to go home to wash and style my own hair after my cut because I always looked like a news anchor or soccer mom! Both are not the looks I was going for. I have been going to Sassoon Salon every six weeks for over six years. Nathan does my color and Sophie my cut. I'm a redhead - a color that is difficult for many colorists to get right. Nathan's color is always perfect and beautiful. Very natural. Sophie listens to all my crazy ideas with great patience and always manages to turn out a cut that is just what I imagined. The best thing about Sassoon Salon is that staff isn't changing all the time. So you can really develop a relationship with a stylist who knows your preferences. And if for some reason your regular person is temporarily unavailable, they keep such good records that you can see someone else who can approximate the style you usually get. My trip to Sassoon was a great disappointment. I asked the person on the phone for a second level stylist. A few days before Christmas she said she had the only appt. available, first level and I give her a chance, she is very trained. I said ok. I only need a little thinning on the sides. I am growing my hair I don't want any length taken off. On the one side it is so sparse it doesn't cover my ear. She said she would put layering in the back which I NEVER wanted but trusted. By the crown it is approx 4" It lays so flat it looks like a guys haircut. I called the manager. He seemed distracted. Asked me to come in but have a monster cold. Wouldn't cell pics do? I told her I grew up with boys and do not know how to do much but do want to look good! I told her I go to bed with it wet and wake up and go to work. She gave me the perfect cut! Years ago I used to get my color and cut at Vidal Sassoon. And came back last month as Nathan the head colorist was back to the Scottsdale location! What a mistake... the color is boring and does nothing to me but the worst is the haircut I got from Lucas (I was told he is leaving so I guess he does not care at all): it is not only a bad haircut but the worst ever and I am completely botched ... guessing it will take months to be back to normal! I only ask to cut the ends and give it back some shape: I am left with uneven sides ; making me feel worst that ever! On top they are making so difficult to schedule both color and style and charge you an extra $6 for COVID while they should discount their fees for a less than average service.. not worth at all the $250! Ben has cut my hair for years now. Each time I go in to see him, he brings fresh ideas to the table based on my requests. I always want my hair to be a little bit different from the rest of the crowd, yet I still want to look age appropriate and classy. Ben always delivers. Not only does he take into consideration the qualities and characteristics of my hair, he also understands the crazy neurosis I have around it. I feel like every time I go into see him, I say "I want something a little different, but KEEP IT LONG." Telling your stylist to do something different and exciting without losing length seems like an oxymoron, but Ben always seems to come up with something that makes me feel pretty.
