Loved this family-run bakery in Katy. I tried the honey cake, the strawberry cream cheese kolache, and the spinach kolache. Everything was delicious! The honey cake was my favorite! It was not too sweet, and the layers of cake and cream were perfect. It didn't feel heavy, and I honestly could have eaten the whole thing in one sitting. The kolaches were so fresh. Went to Kingdom bakery today to order a cake for my birthday party. It's a small place with a nice selection of items, sweet and savory. Note that their website needs some updating as it still shows some menu items that have been discontinued. They were able to offer some small samples of typical cakes, which was very helpful for us to make a decision. We decided on the Chocolate Mousse Cake as it awesome (I love dark chocolate). While there I wanted to try their sweet Kolaches. My Czech great grandmother used to make Prune Kolaches 50 yrs ago, but the family recipe is long lost. Czech Kolaches are very different from the Kolaches you find in America today. While Kingdom didn't have prune Kolaches, they did have the Eastern European style fruit Kolaches that I was craving. I'd been looking all over trying to find these. I even went to Fredericksburg hoping the German bakeries would have some, but they don't. I ordered blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and cheese Kolaches to go. This is the closest I've seen to what grandma made. We visited on a Saturday and did not see the owners. We were helped by two young ladies who were both very knowledgeable and helpful. They helped guide us through their ordering process and make the overall experience even better. read more

Cake was ok, over priced. I called during the week to ask if they had any small cakes ready or if I could order a small one short notice. Just for 10 people, I was told it was not a problem at all for a small cake. They could make one easily later in the week. I should have gone to either HEB or Nothing Bundt Cakes because they have small cakes ready to go. NBCs has 8" starting at $29 and will go to $36 if you had a flower. I was shocked that my 8" here was $120. I was told they had to charge extra because it was a 4 day notice BUT that's why I called, if there was going to be extra charges then I wouldn't have gone. Because I wanted two flowers added, that was $27 add on and I saw a design they had with lines/presses in the fondant (see photo) that was another $30 add on. Cake itself was $58. Cake was alright, nothing special in my opinion. Definitely not worth $120. I didn't know all the add ons until after I paid. I added a cake topper to it that I bought. I could have gone to HEB and bought two roses for less than $27. If you need a small cake and you need it within a week: Nothing Bundt Cakes. read more

If only they were as good as they looked. We tried their mini cakes. More of a cupcake as such. The shop is small and clean but we tried 3 different. Including their Honey Cake which was recommended and all were dry and just lacked flavor. I was really hoping to find a hidden gem but was not that fortunate. But the icing on the cake, pun intended, was when I went to use my yelp discount coupon they said they would apply it. After it was marked as used they wanted to see it again and obviously it was gone and I couldn't recheck in. They then said no problem they would just charge me a cheaper amount. Since my order was to go I did not check the receipt till later to notice that they still charged the regular price for all mini cakes. I stand behind several other reviews that are all saying the same thing: great service, friendly owners, generous samples, excellent coffee(made w/ lavazza), and fresh tasting, quality kolache. I got a dill and potato, spinach, feta and egg, a meat, and a sausage. I loved how fresh the fillngs tasted and the light flakiness of the dough which I prefer over an original kolache. Filled with Strips of lightly breaded chicken, cheese, and a sauce that was so delicious. Both agreed it was very good and worth our drive. As for refreshments I ordered a Carmel vanalla frapi and he had a Carmel vanalla cappuccino. Both were yummy. As we left the location we purchased a few items for that night. And yes 2 more Carmel vanalla frapis since they were so delicious. I will add other's comments are right on the money.. This is a gem that everyone must try. I called two days before the cake was needed. Gentleman on the phone said he could do it (small simple cake) but I would have to pay up front. Ok... they then call me the next day and say it's almost ready. I'm thinking to myself, this was way too fast. I go pick it up the next day, my wife's 30th birthday and a very big deal to her, and I try to smile as I'm horrified. It was so sloppily thrown together, they MISSPELLED Wednesday even though they had a template, and totally didn't follow my directions on the handwriting. My 6 year old could have done the same job.
