When we walked into this unassuming building we were hit by a magical warmth and beauty, very classy but not pretentious. Our server Larry took us on a tour of the restaurant and gave us the history. The inside decor is dark with low lighting giving it a cozy , romantic , upscale feel. Unique decor and decorated cool. Accompanied by Some fruit and bread. Unique and well executed. The wedge was wonderful. Very tasty house made blue cheese dressing and bacon (I think adding some tomato or onion would have broken up the saltiness) but was still great tasting We ordered the sweet pork chop. I was impressed how moist and tender they cooked the pork.. I have to admit that it was too sweet. Even for me, who has a crazy sweet tooth. It was a unique pairing, but left no room for savory. We also ordered the seafood fettuccini. I believe they house make their pasta and Alfredo sauce. I've been here many times before and have always loved it but my last experience made me never want to come back. To start, me and my fiancée came here for dinner on the day of our engagement. We were sat and we waited 12 minutes until I finally got up to ask for a server (not that big of a deal, but it just got worse). Then, we ordered mocktails. To preface, I am 5 months sober. My fiancée was given a "mocktail" with alcohol in it and I unknowingly took a sip. We brought it up with the manager who was friendly but it felt as though we were brushed off. They comped our drinks and gave us free dessert which is a nice gesture, but I felt as though the manager didn't understand the gravity of the whole situation. Fellow campers recommend this place! Doesn't look like much from the outside. We went on a Thursday at 5:15. We like to eat early and avoid crowds. We made reservations and we're seated promptly. The inside was very nice. Seemed classy and high-end but our booth was a little tight. Thankfully, we aren't big people. Our server was Michael. He was very friendly. Maybe in his 40s? We think it was his first week... We ordered champagne to celebrate our wedding anniversary. He came back to ask, "was that the Decoy Merlot you ordered?" No, the Decoy champagne. He came back but didn't know how to open the bottle or pour it. He was very apologetic. He brought an amazing "focascia-type" bread that was sitting on a plate of melted butter. I tried not to pig out but we finished it!! Our dinner arrived but not our salad! He was again very apologetic and didn't k ow what to do. I said not to worry as the bread had filled us up. Then we got down to business. My hubby ordered pasta with shrimp and scallops. It was simply perfect! I ordered the crusted halibut with fresh grilled veggies and switched to the mushroom risotto (instead of the corn risotto). Every bite was amazing. The halibut was perfectly cooked!!! The vegetables were crisp tender like I prefer. I took at least 1/2 home. Just as good the next day. Michael brought us 2 chocolate covered strawberries for our anniversary! How sweet! Now for the not so good... the bread was $5 (which is not stated on the menu that we could see). Not a deal-breaker because as I mentioned, we ate every bite! BUT, we were also charged for the strawberries. We thought that should have been complimentary as we didn't order them and maybe to make up for the mishap with the forgotten salads. I think a more experienced waiter would have handled it better. No, we didn't want to "speak with a manager" as I think he really needs this job and we had a delightful meal regardless. I'm a Seattle Lady visiting a friend and he took me to his favorite restaurant. I was excited to check it out! The place is nicely sized, with outdoor parking. Clean. The establishment is dim, yet well lit and romantically decorated. We sat next to the bar with a great view of the kitchen. Hot plates going out and everyone's dinner looked amazing. This is one of the very few places where I feel the 4.5 star rating is real! Amazing talent here, from the management to the chef! Let's count the ways..... the ambiance is very warm, dimly and indirectly lit in amber light, and the decor is kept dark and in wood. Loved it! The service I got was top notch with personable touches. No Martini served warm or food served cold. This was attentive and on point. The food was delightful- on this cold, rainy night in October, I felt it for the baked brie followed by the pork chop with apples and oh boy, did this hit the spots. Best baked brie in years.... and the pork from the local Snake River Farm was delicious. We've always loved Satay but this last time was exceptional. We had a party of six and we were seated at 6pm and had excellent service through a busy dinner hour. My daughter and her husband were visiting with their two sons. To start with the hostess was super friendly and seated us in a fantastic spot! My son-in-law is still raving about the atmosphere and where we were seated, how comfortable and spoiled we all felt. The food is never anything less than exceptional. Our serving staff was attentive and provided the best possible experience we could've asked for. This is the type of experience that we want when we bring family to the area. Tonight was our first visit & I was overly pleased (hubs not 100%). We sat on the patio, it was quite warm since it was 90 outside, but still lovely in the shade. We started with the mushroom spoons, and I have never had such an appetizer. They melt in your mouth as they are so creamy & delicious. There are sauces underneath the mushroom filled spoons one; spicy & one; sweet and tangy underneath the spoons so you swipe them across onto the bottom of the spoon & then pop em in your mouth. I made the comment that we might need to go back, sit @ the bar just to order these again for happy hour. The hubs then had the blue cheese wedge salad, large size and easily shareable- I had a few bites! I ordered the halibut and wowza- it was a party in my mouth with the corn risotto in every bite. It was a great portion size as you can see in the picture. I had left overs on my plate! The hubs got the rack of lamb, which was very tough unfortunately so he could only eat about half. He wouldn't order it again & wanted to share his feedback with the waiter since it was his suggestion. Lastly but definitely not least- I wanna brag about our waiter (I don't recall his name- either Ryan or Erik). Satay couldn't be anymore perfect if they tried. This is the type of place I'd imagine driving to town for if I lived in Spokane or anywhere within an hour or even two! The size of the restaurant inside that little building surprised me. There in a basement dining area. The stairs to the basement, fireside rooms are small and would be very hard to get down if you are older or in heels. Don't wear a short dress here. Some tables are on platforms and on table is next to the stairs, where everyone can see up your dress. The quality of food was good but not worth the price. We got a chicken satay first. It was as chicken thighs which was very dry and tons of grizzle, very little sauce. I do not recommend the chicken satay. I got the steak and shrimp which was good but not worth $79. My boyfriend got the chicken pasta and it was great, best thing on the menu. Wine selection is good. Espresso martini was good. Overall not worth the money. There are better restaurants in CDA for less or the same amount of money. read more

If there is a word to describe yesterday's dining experience at Satay Bistro, it would be "superb". Or should it be (impressively) "splendid"? It might sound like an exaggeration, but this place didn't disappoint us a bit. Hence, I thought it would be most appropriate to start this review with this accolade to dive into it deeper. We were in town from Denver driving around OR, WA, and ID for his business trip. We had had mediocre food(s) on the way the first two days. For me, my gourmet eater side of me was crying out loud (a little bit) to have something more decent or impressive. Being in the two states where they are known to produce excellent wines (OR and WA to say it specifically), this adjacent state (ID) must have places where they serve those excellent wines from them. My bf is more of a beer guy but he yielded to my likings, so I was able to pick a place, a place they serve more than mediocre food(s) and great wine but a little bit of beer selection. Satay Bistro was just the right place for us. It is not just the food I can rave about. The ambiance was so fitting to the kind of place they are. The lights are dimmed, the inviting bar area for singles and two-some, and those "just-the-right-size two-person booths" (which we sat at one of them), and the bigger tables for bigger groups. They also have a little room downstairs (accessible through the spiral staircase right next to the reception area) which is what's called "tasting room" as far as I recollect correctly. It appeared to be for a special occasion room which I am pretty sure you'll have to reserve it ahead of time.) Our waiter (forgot this name) was a very thoroughly trained server with a good amount of wit. He wasn't simply rigidly professional which I could tell by his eloquent speech and impeccable mannerism. His attentiveness was timely and punctual where when he came back to ask for what we had decided but weren't quite ready, he quickly left and came back later just in time when we were finally ready. We started our (early) dinner by ordering the Stuffed Mushroom Spoons from the section, "Tapas". We wanted something small enough so we would have a good room left for our mains, this was simply the perfect thing to order. All the ingredients listed on the menu (garlic, parmesan crisp, mushrooms, sriracha aioli) were perfectly mixed in creamy mushroom and is/was served/placed in Asian soup spoons (four of them.) Oh, let's not forget. To accompany our appetizer and mains, I got a glass of Heritage by Browne, a Washington state Cabernet from Columbia Valley. He got a pint of some amber (our generous waiter gave us a little taste before we landed on them.) Our mains... -Sea Bass (smoked tomatoes vinaigrette, bacon Swiss chard, goat cheese whip) was my choice. "Excellent choice!" was what our waiter said upon ordering it. This dish undoubtedly lived up to the rave he said about it. Sea Bass was cooked perfectly and placed on top of the Swiss chard. What truly complimented the dish was probably the goat cheese whip. The portion of this dish is a good size. It was so filling; I couldn't finish it (so I saved it for later.) -Seafood Balle Fettuccine (tiger prawns, bacon wrapped scallops, smoked gouda, gorgonzola parmesan three cheese sauce, mae ploy, rosemary balsamic) was his choice. At a glance, it looked like a small dish but it was quite filling (like mine; ee couldn't finish the whole thing either.) The fettuccine pasta was marinated in the gorgonzola parmesan three cheese sauce with mae ploy and this mae ploy was the reason the sauce tasted a little sweet. We didn't know why the sauce tasted a little sweet but we both liked it as we had never tasted anything like this before. Unique and yet great way to make pasta sauce in an unconventional way. Well done. Whereas I can keep going to write more about the fantastic dinner, I better conclude it so it won't be like a thesis (LOL)! Inconclusion.... Go here especially if you are looking for some elevated dinner experience. Ambiance, quality of drinks and food, and service are all checked where there is very little chance for you to get disappointed. We walked away with happy tummies and faces. read more

Satay caters to the typical "put some sugar on it" diet. The Pecan chicken is sickening sweet, The cider brined pork chop was pitiful and sweet. Sugar does not flavor make. The pork chop looked like the cheapest, fatty, thin pork chop from Winco. The bistro steak was overcooked to a lovely gray when ordered medium rare and then sliced without resting so what juices were left in it ran all over the plate. Been here twice now and just not worth going again. I will say the service was good both times. read more

The ambience was unique & captivating with unique lighting. I had the ahi (fabulous) & Ralph had the mini steak & lobster (fantastic). The desserts were wonderful. I had the kahlua mousse cake & Ralph had the apple pie cheese cake. As you can tell by their names, they were "to live for." David was our server & he was attentive & knowledgeable.
