Should be called "Satay House of Flavour!" I don't know what they do to their Curry Mee With Young Tao Fu, but it is phenomenal. Can you say lemongrass coconut curry? They have also perfected their Penang Prawn Mee with hard boiled egg. Tonight we hang with a vegan couple and a vegetarian couple. They shared the reason they eat here is because most every dish can be prepared for them. The service is very efficient. Not much for conversation, but they really take care of you. Refills and tipped off water glasses are a thing of beauty. I bet we'll be back. The prices may seem a bit high. The portions are large and the fare divine! 08/24

One of the best Asian restaurant in town. Never disappoint. Menu changed a little bit but they still have the originals. 5 star because this is the only Malaysian/Singaporean restaurant so there is nothing to compare to. Did I have better chicken and stir fry from other cities or countries. Yes. It is a family restaurant so service can be lacking so have some patience

A pretty amazing Malaysian fusion restaurant. The first time I ate there was in my last life. Here is a review with lots of nonsense. Appetizer Indian bread. Traditional Malay food. A big crispy pancake with curry chicken and mashed potato sauce. Delicious and suitable for trying new things. Bak Kut Teh. The soup made from pork ribs, hazel mushrooms and beancurd skin is rich in the mouth and has a slightly sweet aftertaste. It is recommended to order a small bowl because it is a bit greasy if you drink too much. Main course Malay fried rice noodles/kway teow - I have eaten both. The taste is similar. It is a stir-fried pot method. Shrimp, squid and eggs are added. It is a little spicy but very fragrant. The amount for dine-in is a little small. Hainanese chicken rice is highly recommended!!! The chicken is super tender, it falls off the bone with one bite and is not greasy at all. There is a small dish of minced ginger on the side. The taste is top-notch. Pineapple beef rice is more like Thai style. It is added with sour and sweet pineapple sauce. But I personally feel that pineapple and beef don't go together. It feels like a formal marriage. You live your life and I live mine. Dessert Peanut pancakes are so delicious! It's not the super sweet peanut sauce inside. It's the kind of peanut filling with distinct grains like domestic snacks. Just order it and it's done. It must be served while it's hot. Coconut milk black glutinous rice. I love the small desserts in the style of Fresh Taro. Red beans and blood glutinous rice are added to the coconut milk base. It's not sweet. There are so many ingredients that I thought I was drinking porridge. Malaysian icing milk tea is average. It looks like powder. When I ordered it, I thought it was milk tea with Malaysian icing. I was wondering if this is some kind of Malaysian special milk tea topping. It turned out to be Malaysian Iced Tea. The icing is frozen icing

They have consistently good hainan chicken. This is the first time reviewing other dishes. Hainan chicken: soft, juicy, tender, pairs great with chili and garlic sauces. Savory. This is their classic so if you get one thing, get this. Chicken rice: it's infused with chicken broth/fat because it is very savory and enjoyable. In the picture I ordered half order of hainan chicken and side of rice which I think is the most worth it. Curry Mee with Young Tao Fu - fried tofu in savory noodle soup with egg noodle. It is a little spicy but not too bad. Has a unique Malaysian taste that we could not recreate at home. I'm glad I tried this dish! Chow Fen - Fried chow fen with bok choy, mixed seafood, in savory brown sauce. This is also pretty uniquely malaysian and I'm glad I tried this. It is a bit heavy with the corn starch and thick but overall a satisfying dish. Service: staff was rude, short, and honestly too be expected and we didn't come for the service. We were told to move the high chair to our table. Ambiance. Some Malaysian decorations but not much. Chairs/table standard. Nothing special. It is so unique even for my East Asian palette, and their Hainan chicken never disappoints.

very delicious indonesian / malaysian inspired dishes. boiled chicken here is spot on. i tried indonesia's top dish and it was insanely good. fried egg is perfection. i particularly loved the oil ginger. true to roots and excellent smiles.

    Roti Canai

We stopped in for a quick lunch on Saturday at noon. The restaurant was completely empty at this time and only 2 more parties showed up before we finished. We got the following: Roti Canai - I'm pretty sure this was a pan fried frozen roti. It did not have the glass-like crisp of a freshly made roti; it was kind of sad and floppy. The curry it came with had a good concentrated curry flavor. It had an extremely undercooked piece of potato inside and a small piece of chicken. Asam Laksa - The broth base for the Laksa has the correct tamarind sourness, sugar sweetness, chili spiciness, and a somewhat fishy savoriness, but it's missing a robustness or depth that comes with a broth that has been simmering for hours. The noodles were good though - perfectly cooked and bouncy laksa rice noodles. The toppings included bean sprouts, julienned cucumbers, sliced onions, halved fishballs, and some (canned?) fish. Curry Mee - Coconutty sweet, spicy and savory with a slight curry flavor, but once again, the broth was on the weak side. The egg noodles were overcooked. The toppings were good - you can't go wrong with bean sprouts, tofu skin and stuffed fried tofu. The service was basically non existent - we had to grab our own soup spoons and we never had our water refilled. There were two dead fruit flies on the table we sat at. I don't know if it's true, but to my taste buds, I feel Satay House mostly uses jarred or canned sauce/soup bases with canned and frozen toppings. If you've visited Malaysia or even just been to a Malaysian restaurant in a city with a higher Malaysian population, Satay House feels very average in comparison. This is the only Malaysian restaurant in Metro Detroit so I think they get a pass from a lot of people. Unfortunately, it's just not that great for me.

    Hainanese Chicken Rice

The Hainanese chicken dish was simple, but it was exactly what I wanted. The wok hei on the fried noodles exceeded expectations! Loved the food and the service. Small and quiet place with lots of options on the menu.

This was one of the few places that was open on Christmas day, so my friends and I popped in and had one of the best dining experiences. There's not a ton of Malaysian food options in the area, so it's nice to find such an underrated cuisine represented so well. We ordered numerous dishes and shared amongst each other, and every dish was incredible with a ton of flavor. The staff was extremely kind and provided recommendations and was able to substitute ingredients out for a vegetarian friend. I always look forward to coming back here and highly recommend them!

I just started going back here again in the last few months and I can not remember why I didn't eat here for a couple of years! Everything I've had here has been really good too. It's so hard to decide what to order! This was my second time having their delicious pineapple fried rice. First time I had it was a couple months ago with some friends and it was so tasty I had to order an order for myself! Their roti canai is really good and something a bit different to try here (no pics). Service is good, the lady remembered me from my previous visit and the prices are fair too!

Good and homey, could be a little friendlier . Close to home cooking, I believe due to ingredients makes the noticeable flavor change. But I would come back.

    Chicken satay
    Artha N.

We eat at this restaurant before going to Kim Nhung store. Actually I wanted to try the food here long time ago. I crave satays, and don't have time to make it by myself. So, it is good to have an alternative. The satays are okay. The beef one is better, and the chicken satay is slightly undercooked. But the peanut sauce is excellent. The roti canai is great and fun for sharing. Hanainan rice is also tasty. I eat the rice with curry from the canai bread. We don't have much time to order another food. Next time I will try fried rice and kangkong balacan. They look so good in pictures.

Their online menu does not have the pictures that the in store one has and woowee it is a lot of choices of noodles! Amongst the 4 of us, we ordered the pork tip noodle, the Peking pork (zhajiangmian), hot oil wide noodle, beef tendon knife noodle. YUM! The noodles are handmade, handpulled and you can customize the shape and thickness you want! The portions as you can see are massive and the prices are very reasonable! $14/$15 a bowl! My pork rib tips were too tough but still seasoned. I would say their Peking style zhajiangmian is pleasantly less authentic and I liked this version better than the original! It included a braised full egg, and not too much of the cloyingly sweet and intense sauce. We ordered and within 2 minutes we were served fresh bowls of piping hot noods. Our server was efficient, warm, knowledgeable and bilingual. She said I looked like a popular Hong Kong singer, like OMG what a cute compliment! There was convenient parking and it was really close to my friend's house. Highly recommend!
