I was looking for an afternoon caffeine fix and happened to be only a couple of miles away from this Satellite. I realized they had a drive thru as I drove up, which was cool and something I haven't seen with local coffee shops in either New Mexico or Colorado. I've been coming to Satellite Coffee (since 2010 or so) whenever I visit New Mexico because I like to support them rather than that ubiquitous chain that rhymes with Larmucks. Satellite Coffee- where a college student belongs. As an out-of-state, college, coffee addict, I knew coming to Albuquerque that I would have to find my new favorite spot. My goal was to find a place where I could enjoy some good coffee while getting some homework done. Starbucks is always a safe bet when it comes to good coffee and wifi, but it gets busy and can really hit your wallet. I started adventuring to different coffee places in Albuquerque, and found Satellite Coffee. Walking into the coffee shop you instantly feel warm and welcome. The smell of their freshly ground coffee fills the air and gives you a slight energy boost as if you have already drank some. The baristas are friendly and always know what to recommend if you ask. They are very quick with your order and it seems that there is always a quaint place available for you to sit. The shop portrays their space theme promoting you to relax and focus. Drinking the coffee whether in the shop or taking it to go is always delightful. The coffee is smooth and strong. Personally I love the taste of coffee so the fact that I didn't have to ask for an extra shot was great for me and my wallet. My favorite drink which I would recommend to a coffee lover and to a coffee starter, would be their Caramel Java Frío. The drink is blended in ice like a Starbucks Frappuccino. Each sip gives you a perfect mix of the smooth taste of their coffee and a hint of caramel sweetness. Satellite coffee doesn't only offer coffee, they also serve tea, smoothies, and many healthy breakfast foods. While I haven't tried any of the non-coffee drinks, my friends who have, said that it was a win in their book as well. Overall, I would say that this is my new go-to coffee shop. I've been driving by this location frequently and have always wondered about it. They recently had a Valentine's Day promotion where you and a friend could get a free drink, so we jumped on the opportunity to try it out (kind of love the place already just for that alone!). I tried the mexican latte and hubs just got a hot chocolate (not a caffeine person). Both were great, and the place itself is cute and we talked about making a point of returning to try some of their food items. Honestly, I was verrryyyy skeptical about Satellite Coffee. To me, it looked just like a cafe / coffee shop that boasted coffee but probably didn't do coffee well. My man-at-the-time picked this place and whoa, we were both blown away. Service was great and the coffee was good too! I love this kind of combo. The store was clean and quirky cute with a healthy mix of clientele. There was a drive-thru option too which the man loved. I'm traditionally a bare-bones coffee girl and I typically stay away from the frou-frou drinks. I did both here and can't say I was disappointed. The spicy drinks were great (and spicy) hot or cold, and the coffee was nice, strong, and well-bodied. If I'm ever back in the hood, I'll definitely swing by Satellite. After much back and forth between me and my fellow coffee fiend I decided to try this place. We are both heavy cream users instead of the usual half an half and he always claimed Satellite used the best cream. Generally I'm a complete skeptic about everything but I went ahead and have it a try. Mainly because I needed to break a 20$ to tip my barber. I picked my usual Red Eye, or Depth charge depending on where you are. (Bold Drip with a shot) and added heavy cream. I was immediately impressed by the knowledge of the barista and the amount of information her garnered in regards to how I wanted it prepared, then made a fresh pot if coffee. First impression was there is a definite difference between Starbucks cream and Satellite, here being much creamier and has more flavor. The coffee was much better as well with very little, if any, bitterness. The facility is much more welcoming than your average Starbucks. Nice couches, music playing, fireplace, very relaxing place to come and chill out for a little but while figuring out what you want to do with your life, or for the rest of the day. I had to inform my friend that I was a convert, I'll be frequenting Satellite more. BTW, Its local, which is always a plus. read more

Not sure what's going on with Satellite lately-at least the one on Montgomery. They have had the the best coffee in ABQ for years-especially their americanos. Not recently though. They taste weak and lack the depth of flavor they usually have. I keep going back hoping the next one will be better but sadly it hasn't been. I even ordered an extra shot this time hoping that would do the trick. It's marginally better but far from the quality it used to be. Not sure what has changed but hopefully someday they'll be as consistently good as they used to be. read more

This is terrible! We were not told until we went to pay that the Internet was down & they couldn't accept our frequent flyer card or gift card. I had both in my hand as we ordered. The oj is 12 ounces ofTropicana in a bottle - for $3.25. The 2 oz side of cream cheese is $1.00. The oatmeal came without the brown sugar, walnuts, etc. had to go ask for it. Rude staff. No attempt at compensation for any of this and RIDICULOUS prices. Not a happy customer in any way!! read more

Meh. Got a cup of Sumatra. (Which is one of my favs) and it was so so. There motto is 'Passionate about coffee' and that couldn't be more far from the truth. I walked in an begun to speak to the Barista (if that's what I should even call him) and asked what he was brewing, Sumatra was thrown at me, continued to asked how long ago it was brewed, and was also thrown '2 minutes ago'. I've been on a 10 day coffee tour from Cali and this hands down was one of the work spots as far as knowledge and passion. I'm giving them 3 stars only because the coffee was alright for a quick cup. The best place for coffee in the Northeast Heights. This local chain provides both delicious drip coffee (locally roasted downtown) and also unique specialty drinks: my favorite is the Black Velvet, a sort of iced latte with an extremely strong and delicious coffee taste with subtle hints of chocolate and vanilla. It's also apparently made with circa 5 shots of espresso, which would explain my shaking hands as I caught up with work on their free Wifi the other day. Definitely worth a try if you're in the mood for something a bit sweeter than a usual coffee drink. In addition to being a peaceful study space, Satellite is a great place to hang out, with a fireplace, ample seating in couches and comfortable chairs, and tasteful art including some antique furniture and old books. Open early and also late (till 11 PM, every day!) it's simply a sweet place, so much so that it's almost superfluous to Yelp it since everyone in this area of town already goes to Satellite. read more

Every time I've come here, I've had a great experience. The architecture, ambience, and coffee are all terrific! So far I've tried the Remix, Dirty Chai Frio, and Americano. They have been excellent with the Frio being my favorite. The caffeine and taste are top notch. There is a variety of seating arrangements, which has kept me comfortable for the hours I spent each time, although the furniture could use an update. The prices are generally worth it, and I look forward to trying the food. I wish I could take this back to California with me! read more

I know it may be "overrated" to love satellite coffee being a local but, this is one of my favorite coffee spots. I have always had a delightful experience with the baristas and the restaurant has always been clean. But to the point- I frequently grab the cold brew with a splash of cream. Uh. Mazing. A gourmet coffee drive-thru? What is this, this future or something? Satellite Coffee was one of the very few places I checked out while in ABQ, and it really made me fall in love with the city. The coffee was great, except for a too sweet Mexican latte (but that could be my own tastes) and the service was SO FRIENDLY. They even gave us dog biscuits for our pups in the car! Good coffee and a relaxed atmosphere. There aren't many cafes in Albuquerque that are so comfortable to hang out in, and I have been known to stay here for hours. That said, there are a lot of people hanging out here. During the day it's mostly people coming for a break during from work, but in the evenings there are a lot of students. Lot's of people come for the free wi-fi. The staff is friendly, and they care enough to remember you if you come moderately often (I probably go there every week or two, and they remember me). In fact, when one of the staff moves on to some other job, I actually miss them. The coffee and espresso drinks are very good here. I also buy my whole beans here as they are quite fresh. Good specialty drinks include the Mexican Latte, the Black Velvet and Red Stuff. The desserts are also very good--they come from Flying Star, but the portions are often smaller and more manageable. Dessert favorites include the eclairs, cowgirl cookies and that white Italian cake. Aside from the dessert, the food is pretty good, but I think that the quality has gone downhill a little in the past few menu changes. They change the menu a couple of times per year, and I feel like it is worse each time (hello, are you listening? bring back the turkey and pesto on the fiesta roll and the original chicken burrito). Overall, Satellite rates five stars for atmosphere, drinks and dessert and three stars for food. Still, it's the best that I've found in Albuquerque. read more

I'm new to town and loved this local coffee joint! Our sandwiches were delicious and I loved the iced peppermint tea. It seems that the wraps and sandwiches are prepared and kept in a case so they are ready very fast. It would be great for grab and go. I especially loved the community bulletin board out front. its great to find a place that's locally run and also plugged into the community. I found a 5k to participate in and hope to meet others soon. The interior of the coffee shop is pretty loud so next time I might try the patio if it's cooler. I also didn't check to see if it's dog friendly and didn't notice dog bowls but will look next time I go. I will return! read more

Flying Star's twin sister...even though they are very similar, I like Satellite Coffee more. Funky decor, great coffee, AWESOME breakfast burritos (they call them "graburritos") and lots of locations. My favorite is the Mexican latte. Drive-thru perfection! My orbit takes me here, on my way to work, on a weekly basis. The staff is very chill and friendly. They never seemed hurried yet are always swift and accurate with the order. The Turkish Latte is my drink of choice; followed closely by the Mexican Latte. The Turkish flavor is liquid yum! Hmmm.... It's Saturday and I'm thinking I may have to go off-course and hit it. P.S. A very relaxing coffee shop - if I were a local, I'll definitely come here for a good cup of coffee in morning. For a joe to go, I like their spill-proof container. The couch area is nice for chatting up with friends or quietly reading a paper or planning the day on a smart phone. The staff is really friendly (as in the case of Flying Star). And free WIFI - yyyes! The pastry selection is somewhat underwhelming. But if you like the Flying Star scones/muffins etc, I guess it doesn't matter. read more

Satellite is a good runner up to Flying Star when you have a couple of hours to occupy between meetings. Can't beat the free wi-fi and a good selection of lose leaf teas sold by the cup or pot; a pot gets you about 2.5 cups. I recommend either the peppermint or jasmine. What could be better? On this cold and windy day the air con seems to be on high - we're talking you can see other people's hair moving like we're outside in a breeze; since the fire place isn't on, there's no relief. And while there are several couches and oversized chairs, the blue velvet couch I'm on is a bit tattered and could use some cleanup so I'm trying not to look too closely. Lastly, the staff we're a bit less than friendly this morning, but maybe I'm just here on an off day since the other reviews are more positive. I used to come here often, spending my bucks locally rather supporting that One Company, you know what I'm talking about. Above average: Service. Cleanliness. Coffee condiment bar. Tea selection. Specialty drink selection. Packaging (futuristic corn-based drink cups which, who knows, may even taste good). Below average: Expense, especially specialty drinks. Extras are extra. Seating capacity--often way low. Parking: only accessible one-way and limited. Regular coffee. Satellite rivals most, if not all of their national competition, and they offer some pretty tasty eats for those of us who like to balance our jitters with sustenance. Still, the experience leaves something to be desired. If you're new to this place and you're not absolutely tethered to your national brand, try it. In the end, I'll stick with a neighborhood shop which charges half the price and throws in an extra smile at no charge. read more

This is probably one of the nicer Satellite's in town. It's location is too far away to be slammed by college students. The outdoor seating, though noisy because of the major street, is a nice little spot. The wifi here seems to not suffer the way that other locations do, probably because of the small space and out-of-the-way location. It's Satellite coffee, so it's a big step up from that national chain. The twists they do on lattes are nice, though I usually go for "light flavor" if I stray from a straight espresso drink. First, what I don't like. They keep this coffee shop freaking cold no matter the season. You would hope they would turn off the AC or lower it in the Fall time. Hopefully once they start up their fireplace in the winter the AC will be cut off. So if you are sitting by the windows in the place, make sure you bundle up. Even in the Summer time. Minus one star. Other than that this Satellite is pretty nice. It doesn't get too packed usually. There is usually enough parking. It has its regular coffee shop layout, but this one is a bit original from the usual coffee shops and even for satellite. I really like it. The staff is really nice. They have a good internet connection compared to some of the other Satellite coffee shops. The coffee has gotten better at Satellite and Flying Star from years ago where it was just burnt and gross. You'd guess I was "a Fan," of the joint, with as many check-ins I have. I like their coffee. That says a lot, because I will drink iced specialty swill from only a few places. The type of syrup used for the mochas is unique, and tasty... while being distinct from the green-logo, Siren-run coffee place up the block. If I could be blasphemous to ABQ's premier coffee chain, I would offer this... while the coffee prices are comparable to other chains, the food prices are... how do I say... EXPENSIVE!?! I love me a NM graburito laced with green chiles, but that and a cooling coffee beverage will set you back about $12. Not a trip a normal person can make but once or twice a month. I don't expect a discount breakfast menu, but I wanted to voice my piece on why I'm not in the Drive-Thru at Satellite Coffee every morning before work. (If the prices were *right,* I would be.) Bottom Line: You can't go wrong with Satellite Coffee... unless you drink Turkish coffee that will strip paint off a car. read more

I'm only adding the second star because the woman taking orders at the drive through was delightful. We pulled in at about 3 pm and we were the only ones in line for what appeared to be a well staffed facility. We needed a vegan drink for a milk allergy. As a former barista myself I know this isn't an unusual one or one that adds any challenges. They couldn't tell me which drink was which and they both tasted the exact same. They also were lukewarm. The manager came over and assured me they were correct. We pulled away and my daughter decided not to drink it because it smelled like milk she said. Just for fun we dipped a test paper in both and sure enough, dairy. I fully accept that mistakes can be made but management cannot be that cavalier about food allergies. It's down right dangerous. It's also her job to teach new staff that it's a priority. Our cups had nothing written on them and we were never given a receipt to verify our order was correct. My go to spot for coffee whenever I'm in town. Their London Fog is my absolute favorite and I've got in the habit of asking for it all over the world. I never knew I had a passion for Earl Grey until I tasted it with steam milk and that vanilla hint of sweetness. Minus one start because I think the food offerings could be better. I'll buy their coffee to take home from time to time as well and have enjoyed all of the beans. The past two mornings I have gone to satellite for a quick breakfast because of my lack of good timing. Yesterday I got the New Mexico Graburrito. While disappointed I couldn't add extra cheese, it was still delicious! This morning I got a green Chile bagel. Bagels are a tough rating out here far away from the New York bulky, chewy bagels I'm used to so I will rate kindly! The bagel I got was more like a roll and didn't taste at all like green Chile or have a hint. It was slightly burnt but not too bad, just a superficial surface and a little edge. I got a tiny amount of cream cheese (this bagel was large so the cream cheese barely covered it). Overall, I'd order the burrito time and time again but not the bagels ever. As my quest for a New York bagel in Albuquerque continues, another good burrito close to work has been found! Staff seem happy and are nice, and extra bonus points for the doggie biscuit available for my dog's breakfast too! read more
