The food was delicious, let me just start by saying that. But certain things did happen during the timeline of this meal that gave me pause. Let me paint the picture for you... Sit down, very hungry. Ask Future Husband, "do you think this place gives bread?" Me *thinks Waiter can read my mind and will instantly bring out bread.* No bread but we were asked to put in our cocktail orders. Future Husband gets a Cab that was actually VERY good and deliciously dry and I ask for a twist on the spicy Limonada drink that was hands down one of the best cocktails anyone has whipped me up in awhile. Only Sarah would take a 5 ingredient drink and make it 3. Hold the cilantro, hold the agave. There was just the right amount of jalapeño to complement the lemonade and the Repasado. I had to get another simply because I enjoyed drinking this drink so much and I do not know when I'll be back. Future Husband and I can't decide between patatas bravas and cauliflower for app. We settle on patatas bravas but FH can tell by looking at my face I want the cauliflower. He must feel bad for me that there's still no bread on the table so he says, "Get the cauliflower." Yes! He got the chicken for din and I got the halibut which was a special. Take a look at that plate. Tell me where you see $38. I mean, $28 I can understand but it's not like the polenta cake was some moist slice of heaven. In fact it was pretty dry. I know Sar, polenta is normally dry but like it didn't even soak up the green sauce and the green sauce was great. I actually left one bite of polenta until I remembered my mantra which is never leave a restaurant with one bite left on your plate. *Cough, Joey, cough* literally always have to help him with that. The espressos were great and they did have Sambuca - but at the end of the day, I did VERBALLY ask for bread instead of with my light saber mind and it never came even though Waiter promised he'd retrieve some from the kitchen. Hence my last bite of polenta "cake." And the service here does not solicit a $40 plate of halibut. Also, Future Husband's chicken was NTG. Say it with me folks, NOT. THAT. GOOD. Tastes of Europe in a classic and cool setting. Delicious food offerings and delightful cocktail and wine choices. On a chilly Jersey City night, early to meet colleagues for dinner, I peered into Satis from the sidewalk. The sign on the main door indicated a private party, but the downstairs bar door showed it was open for business. So, I bellied up and perused the cocktail list. I decided to "Feel the Beet" and ordered their concoction of gin, rosemary, orange, and beet juice. I mean, hey, beets are a superfood! It was refreshing and well crafted with fresh ingredients. Finally sitting down to dinner, we sampled a charcuterie board that pleased practically everyone. I opted for the cast iron roasted half chicken with Brussels sprouts and leeks. It was superb and tender, and also visually appealing. They've also got a bowl of mussels that looked tremendous, though everything appeared to be very tasty. The ambience is old-timey and vintage. Cool older photographs and posters on the wall. The ceilings are high and it's big enough for a party, while small enough for an intimate dinner. I highly recommend the restaurant for entertaining colleagues and clients, and the bar is quaint for catching up with old friends or escaping the work week. Fantastic food and beautiful restaurant. We got a great two top up front. Everything was top notch. Great service, nice ambiance, and the food wow. Started with the beet salad and crap cakes. Both dishes were on point. Next we had the gnocchi with truffles. WOW! Cheesy, creamy, and soft gnocchi. Main courses include the wagu steak special and organic chicken. Both were cooked to perfection. Even better were the two desserts, the whiskey bread pudding and flourless chocolate cake with ganache. Phenomenal, and paired with gelato. My son wanted to go here for his birthday- Wonderful choice! Decent beer selection, but I think the wine menu is more impressive. Looks like a great place to sip wine and get a charcuterie board. Five of us ate, and the branzino was the winner. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I had the Belgian beef stew (Can't remember the exact name) and it was good too. More of a dish for cooler weather though. Wife got the brick chicken - she's very finicky but she loved it. Son got spaghetti carbonara, very good too. It was not a creamy sauce - more like you would find in Italy. Overall, it's a great place for food. We went on a Sunday and received the brunch special (any brunch item with a mimosa, Bloody Mary, or Prosecco for $19.95). A great deal for the amount of food and quality of food you get. For our anniversary, my husband planned a getaway where we went back to the place he proposed to me. We walked in and were greeted - staff was wearing masks but their smiles radiated under them - they were so friendly and welcoming. We were given our choice of tables and they were kind to adjust us to a corner spot in the back (basically, we had that space of the restaurant to ourselves!). We had a lovely bottle of wine that we brought along for a $25 corkage fee. Our waiter, Theo, chatted us up about wine as we opened out bottle and settled in, and was so kind, friendly and personable! His recommendations for special was a must-order, so we stared with their special crab cake, and I selected the duck breast and my partner chose the special pork chop. Everything was artfully prepared, seasoned, and cooked to perfection. We were weighing the idea of a second appetizer when we were ordering, but Theo said this was plenty of food and he was right on the money with his caution. We were perfectly stuffed but not too over the line where we'd have concerns about standing up from the table after our meal. We never felt rushed or crowded, and Theo kept a close eye from a distance... making sure to catch our eye to see if we signaled him, or sending someone to bring water to us, or helping refill our wine glasses. The entire staff were delightful, the food was incredible, and the ambiance was the perfect combination of casual and approachable and intimate and romantic. The service was bad, I was racially profiled when I walked in for dinner. I was there 15 minute before my open reservation and they sat a white woman who was alone before my friend and I. And then when she didn't like the place they sat her they moved her to another open table then offered me the table she did not want. Mind you there were 3 open tables. Any place with beef cheeks on the menu is alright with me. I've dined here for dinner and brunch and have loved all my food but my husband not so much. At dinner I had a seafood pasta dish and my husband had the beef stew I loved both but he only liked his. It was a hearty portion so I was happy to have his leftovers the next day. At brunch I had the carb benedict, also thoroughly enjoyed but my husbands steak and eggs were meh. The eggs were perfectly cooked but the steak was overdone and somehow incredibly bland. Neither of us could eat it which was disappointing. I hope to convince my husband to return soon but we will stick to the dinner menu. read more

I'm a huge fan. I frequent this restaurant often, and am always impressed by their seasonal food selections and overall ambiance. It's a great date-night or brunch spot. A few months ago, my fiancé and I had to cancel our original destination wedding plans due to covid, and we decided to host an intimate ceremony in downtown JC followed by a dinner here, and we could not have been more impressed by the superb hospitality. The communication was easy and they were more than accommodating. We were able to customize a delicious 4 course dinner menu for 31 people, and arrange our floral designer to come in early to decorate the first floor with our desired floor plan. The place is already beautiful, so we didn't need much. Our guests couldn't stop raving about the attentive service, friendly staff, and amazing food. It turned out 100000% better than if we had hired a catering hall. I highly recommend Satis Bistro for your next event. Support local. I was lucky enough to catch the end of the summer and visit this restaurant while they still have the terrace and outside table setup. Visited around 5:30 pm on a Sunday, and we are like the second group decided to sit outside. The set up is really nice and the neighborhood is really chill, during our time there, we añade several small groups walk pass us and families walking their puppies. However there are two things that I need to point out- first, there are a lot of mosquitos there. I don't think that's something the restaurant could control, but just want to point out and be careful about it. Second, the day when we were dining, there was a squirrel who was obsessed with the fruit on the tree and sitting at a table right underneath without an umbrella, we were "attacked". I would suggest the restaurant to put more umbrella therw I was a little bit surprised that there was no special courses other than the ones listed on their menu. Also, i was trying to use yelp to point out one dish I would like to try, but i was told that their menu is seasonal, so they don't have the one that i wanted. I ordered the fish as entree, it's crispy outside and super tender inside. My friend ordered pasta. I had a small bite, and it tastes super awesome. I bet they hand-made their pasta, it's really chewy and the sauce is quite unique(a little sour and creamy). The food is good, on an appropriate portion, rather than like some Italian restaurant, you finish all your food and will not feel extremely full. The desert was chocolate cake and it was good! Decent restaurant but a bit overpriced for what you get. I ordered the prix-fixe menu ($35) with the tomato bisque, short ribs, and German chocolate sundae. I was pretty unimpressed with all my choice. The tomato bisque was VERY thick like the consistency of baby food. It lacked salt. I love tomato bisque normally, but did not care much for this. It was a yellow color (supposed to be) that had some sweet notes due to the corn. My short ribs with goat cheese mashed potatoes were severely underwhelming. The short ribs were bland and not very tender. The potatoes were very lumpy missing some creaminess. Not sure if the goat cheese was supposed to help.. but it wasn't a great mashed potato (reco: don't spend extra to get this). Also it didn't have much of a chorizo flavor. Looking at the menu I'm surprised it was supposed to be there. My husband got the prawn and lobster risotto. I will say he LOVED the flavor of the risotto (he finished it!) But noted that the prawns were obviously frozen and not fresh. He rated his meal 4/5. We did love the German chocolate sundae but would not likely pay $8 for it. My server was also extremely slow and nor very helpful! The hostess had alerted us to entrees that may no longer be available. The server made no mention of these! No helpful suggestions, no specials, nothing! He didn't even check on us right away after receiving our food. It took him 15 mins. to check on us... glad there was salt at the table next to ours or I would have been waiting a while! Due to mixed results this would be 2.5 or 3 out of 5 stars. read more

I love the food here, but beware the auto-gratuity policy! Last night I had dinner there with my wife's family from abroad and they added gratuity to a party of five without warning us. My father in law insisted on paying and he doesn't know anything about this stuff other than that he needs to tip 20%, so he tipped 20% on top of the auto-grat. He asked me what that charge was on the ride home and I was absolutely furious at the server. I see now that they have it posted on the menu that they will add gratuity to parties of five, but I'm still pissed off. Hardly anyone does it for groups smaller than six and it resulted in my father in law being ripped off. Diner beware!! read more

Satis Bistro is on fleeeeeeek. A main floor with a more intimate balcony overhead, rustic decor, beautiful artwork, classy cocktails, decadent menu options... I could go on and on. It's just strait up sexy in here. We came in for no particular occasion (besides wanting to feel super classy), but I'd definitely encourage planning a celebratory meal here. Although they've got some hearty entrees, there are also plenty of small plates, shareable sides, and cheese and meat pairing options. We started off with lime gin cocktails and a manchego cheese plate, which came with several thick slices of cheese, sliced bread and a slab of fig jam. The cheese was delicious and I'm glad we only ordered one type because I could have inhaled so much more. My only complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough bread on the plate. I kept my entree light and fresh while my boyfriend made a super hearty pick. I went with the scallops, which had four perfectly pan seared scallops and a side of golden beats and shaved brussels. The brussels were a major disappointment and the dish basically had three teeny burnt pieces of a brussels sprout leaf, but otherwise I really enjoyed. My boyfriend absolutely loved his braised short rib atop a bed of chorizo goat cheese mashed potatoes. Too rich for my blood, but the bite that I snuck was sinful. Excusing the pun, this was a Satisfying dining experience. I dropped by after work for the Hudson Restaurant Week prix-fixe menu. Beyond the heavy curtains is the quaint, two-level dining room. Jazz is quietly piped into the candle-lit space and service is efficient without feeling rushed. The food was outstanding, if a little uneven in places. Off the Restaurant Week menu, I snagged the patatas bravas, short rib au poivre, and German chocolate cake sundae. The potatoes came out piping hot and perfectly crispy with the creamy cumin aioli just managing to offset the borderline overwhelming spice mixture. While the smoked paprika was assertive, the potatoes were bracingly salty. Next up was the entree: a tender cube of short rib topped with a thin layer of peppercorn brandy sauce over chorizo and goat cheese infused mashed potatoes. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the potatoes were creamy good with just enough punch from the chorizo. The flavours on this dish were a bit more muted, picking up just enough richness from the sauce. The dessert was among the best I've had. Anywhere. A scoop of chocolate brownie gelato, a scoop of coconut almond crunch gelato, and two dollops of whipped cream, all topped with toasted coconut, candied pecans, and a warm butterscotch sauce. But the decor was great, it really did have a European feel and the waiters were all great, very friendly, always joking, always with a smile. I will definitely be back. I also hear they have a really great brunch. The food: Homemade Black Truffle and Veal Ravioli, Maitake Marsala Gravy, Truffled Celery Root. Oh my.... The first time I came here was probably 4-5 years ago. Back then, I thought the food was mediocre, but I really loved the ambiance. So, what exactly compelled to rate Satis a 4 out of 5? Well, I decided to give Satis another try for Thanksgiving dinner, and... WOW. Everything from service to food, everything just impressed me. The staff was just amazingly friendly that I was shook--it has been such a long time since any restaurant staff has been such a delight! The decor downstairs is very intimate even with its 18 foot ceilings in an area of Jersey City that's filled with historical brownstones. For starters we shared the chefs selection of three artisan cheeses, bread & a fig jam. Next up was a single pasta dish that's highly recommended. The Housemade ricotta gnocchi with braised escarole, white beans & a garlic confit. It's a good thing we only ordered just one pasta dish for the fact that this was very filling. A pitcher of red sangria came out shortly thereafter and was strong and not sweet at all. Just the way we like it. Enough for about three glasses a person. Yes, those entrees that was really only picked at were the black angus hanger steak for the wife and I went with the steamed mussels in a spicy saffron broth. Satis Bistro is a great place to have lunch if you're in the Jersey City area near Exchange Place. It's only about 5 minutes walk from the PATH station and the food is really, really good. Recently, I went and tried the Poached Eggs with wild mushrooms in a truffled holandaise sauce. It was a small portion, but the perfect size for me. It's two poached eggs on top of a soft buttered brioche bun and topped with sauteed wild mushrooms and a light yet creamy holandaise sauce that smelled amazing. I also really like that they take reservations. They were nice enough to seat me before my friend arrived and also let us stay for a while to catch up. Overall my Friday night dinner at Satis bistro during covid was really wonderful! I made a reservation and called ahead to confirm my party would be seated outdoors. The restaurant is doing a great job to practice social distancing and even offers paper towels next to the bathroom door when entering just in case you don't want to touch the door handle to open it. My boyfriend and I had very high expectations based on what we've read on Yelp and also from worth-of-mouth recommendations. We decided it would be a special place to celebrate our anniversary this year so we made a reservation several weeks in advance. When we showed up on the night of our anniversary, we were 5 minutes early, and our table wasn't ready. We were sent to the bar, ordered a drink, and a half hour later, I went back to the entrance to ask the hostess if our table was ready. It was, but why did no one come and tell us? Also, why was our table not ready at the time of reservation, let alone 30 minutes late? Definitely subtracting points for that. We ordered the Patatas Bravas as a starter and the Butternut Squash Wellington and Black Angus Hanger Steak as entrees. The Patatas Bravas were definitely our favorite part of the meal. The potatoes were crispy and the sauce was on point. The Butternut Squash Wellington wasn't quite as expected. It was really heavy on the goat cheese and the crust, so it really felt like I was eating a goat-cheese-filled pastry (not like that's a bad thing, just not what I was expecting). The veggies didn't really come through, which I wish they did. Was hoping for a slightly healthier and less heavy vegetarian option. The Black Angus Hanger Steak fell short by a lot. Typically when you order a steak, you get a steak. At Satis, apparently when you order a steak, you get a plate of french fries and a few cubes of meat. It was a big disappointment for a $30 entree, and on top of that, the truffle butter didn't really work well with the meat. Maybe it was to conceal how dry it was. On top of it all, we really did not feel that we got the service of a 4-star restaurant. In addition to waiting 30 minutes for our reserved table, we didn't feel like the servers paid us much attention. We might be young, but our money is as valuable as anyone else's. The table next to us was getting special attention to the point that the server recommended a dish so heavily that he offered the woman to try it and if she didn't like it they would make her something else at no extra charge. When you spend $25 on a pasta dish with burrata, you would expect a reasonable serving of burrata, not a singular teeny tiny mozzarella ball. The service was good and attentive. The pasta flavor overall was decent, but the dish was ultimately very disappointing and a rip off. The bread pudding was pleasant, but I enjoyed the gelato served on the side of it more than the pudding itself. I'm mad that I was too distracted by wine and good company to complain about the pasta, that's my bad. If you decide to dine here, order something else. read more
