Kind of tired with how Antique Bar is running things lately. Always hard to get a table, I have been trying for many months now to bring in my fam for bread pudding and finally get a table. Before when I called they would squeeze me in but no more like that which is fine, its busy. Get there ask if I could get a table 10 mins earlier, they said they'll check. So I made a reservation for Tuesday and anticipating experiencing the whole food display atmosphere and got nothing. They claimed they had a water pipe break and that they would be closed for repairs. Mind you I was notified that I should be there for 5 PM for my reservation. What do I do we go why? We're available on Wednesday and my brother-in-law who is in from Japan would love to experience antique Bakery and bar. I grew up in Hoboken and know this place very well for their oven and bread. Loved it until today. So I make another reservation for Wednesday and my reservation was confirmed. Tried calling several times no one picks up the phone as if no one cares. We take the trip down from BERGEN COUNTY once again because we're anticipating two thumbs up and five stars. Paid for parking again another $15 and woke up and find Construction still going on. I am told after I spoke to this gentleman that he was the chef. I introduce myself show him my phone that my reservation keeps getting confirmed and as he didn't care and points us to his sister place and says why don't you go and have dinner there? Well wouldn't you know that the place is closed and on their website uncle whatever it is states it closes at 3 PM. The so-called Chef told us at 3:55 PM that they open at 4 PM. It was pretty quiet when we arrived for our reservation, around 5:30pm on a weekday but by 7pm, it was bustling, loud, and full! My must-orders have to the Mussels, Hot Oil Shrimp, and Antique Meatball. We could've stopped the dinner right there and I would've been absolutely content. The Mussels were super fresh and the green garlic butter was vibrant and delicious. The Hot Oil Shrimp were massive! 1 per person is definitely sufficient especially if you're ordering other dishes. I enjoyed the spices and flavors but the shrimp was a tad overcooked. The Antique Meatball is made with beef & breadcrumbs and wow, was it delicious. It was super tender and I enjoyed the ricotta and buttered bread it's served with. I personally didn't care for the Charred Caesar (it's hard to eat or cut since the lettuce was charred yet soggy) and the Mezzi Rigatoni was just okay. The Barbacoa Short Rib w Mashed Potatoes was a showstopper! It's massive and can easily be split among at least 4 people. It was super tender, fell off the bone, and the juices soaked up in the mashed potatoes making for an even more delicious bite. I will say I was a bit startled at the ~$98 price tag and although it's a lot of meat, it would've been nice if our waitress told us ahead of time. The burger came cooked medium had flavor but again nothing that blew me away. The fries were good and came out piping hot as fresh. The bread pudding was delicious, huge and served up to four people, it was hot, baked to perfection & came with a side cup of caramel that was just the necessary amount of sweetness to make this a perfect (but very filling) dessert. The establishment requires you to order everything at once, including dessert - since they only offer two family sized dessert options - so we passed on it. I've had the bread pudding before - it was tasty...but not $30 tasty. To start, our party of 4 shared the yucca croquettes (3 to an order) and the mac & cheese. Both were tasty. For mains, two got the burger and my friend and I got the mezzi rigatoni. My husband said his burger wasn't that good. The special sauce was tasty but everything else was just average - definitely not a 'top burger in NYC'. The mezza rigatoni ($32) was also just average. I've waited a long time to write this review to give antique bar and bakery a fair chance but unfortunately, they have missed the mark on several occasions. My first visit was for my birthday a few years ago where we ordered a steak dish that was so incredibly fatty that it was inedible. We told our server and they offered to bring us out another, which was also still SO fatty. The experience left a bitter taste in our mouths but we were comped the steak and offered a $100 gift card to use on a future visit. Our third and fourth visits ended up being yesterday (Valentine's Day) for last minute brunch and dinner reservations. We were appreciative that they were able to squeeze us in last minute. We weren't too keen on a pre fixe menu, but everywhere appears to have a set menu on the holiday. I ordered the shakshuka which lacked depth of flavor and was very disappointing. Probably the worst shakshuka I've ever had unfortunately. The salad and bread that came with it were both good. My husband ordered the steak sandwich (the other 2 entrees he wanted to try were both sold out). The sandwich was very flavorful but needed to be served on a crustier bread. The skillet pancake had good flavor but was so incredibly dense and could've used more bananas. Valentine's dinner was the straw that broke the camel's back. Out of everything that was offered, the only dish worth mentioning was the lobster pasta. It was spicy, pasta cooked al dente, and a fair amount of lobster chunks. We received our salad promptly but our pasta second course came out before the seafood starter course. We brought it to our server's attention and it still took a long time to receive it. Then we had another long wait for our main course. The steak was okay, mashed potatoes were good, but the peppercorn sauce absolutely ruined the meal. There were too many peppercorns in every bite. Also the Nutella flan they offered for dessert was a far cry from a flan. It wasn't good. I would've preferred their regular desserts as an offering. Service was very lackluster. The waiter was friendly and informative, and informed us that the cook likes everything ordered up front. We decided to share some appetizers rather each get an entree so that we could try more. Definitely recommend the priest stranglers and cocktails (albeit a bit pricey). The slight con could be the space. The outdoor area is convenient, but it can get hot quickly if you're sitting in the sun. Vibrant and engaging - that's the predominant energy you feel when you enter the restaurant. There's the smell of varied and mouthwatering food, open-kitchen theatrics to spy with your side eye as you dine in, and the chatter of the crowd. We were already off to a great start. After getting ourselves some libations - A glass of Cab Sauv for me, and Beer on tap for my partner, we were ready for nourishments: Mussels in Green Garlic Butter Sauce with a side of Bread smeared with the Green Garlic Butter (5/5) - the mussels were cooked to perfection and the sauce was out of this world. We even boxed up the little sauce left behind at the end of it because of how divine it was. The portion was great and what a delightful appetizer to the items that followed. Loved this so much, ordering it again on my next visit. Short Rib Barbacoa with Mashed Yukon Potatoes (5/5) - this dish presented tender meat with a spicy and dynamic rub, garnished with lovely spiced and pickled pieces of pepper. One word - yum! The Yukon Mash was also the perfect pairing. Again, great serving size and the remains served as the best kind of topping for our homemade nachos the following day. As you can tell, we weren't leaving without trying the infamous bread pudding. The food leading up to it was so incredible but we tried to leave some space for the finale. Antique Bread Pudding (5/5) - we went off beat and asked for the caramel sauce on the side so that we could pour it to our liking. So we missed on the animation of it, but the taste was magnificent nonetheless. The exterior was toasted and had a bit of a bite and the interiors were tender and pudding-ier. Loved it. The caramel was also divine. And I absolutely get the hype behind this! All hits at Antique Bar and Bakery and cannot wait to try more of what they have to offer. read more

Pricey, but delicious and a nice option for a special occasion! We started with the Skyline Siren and Johnny Friendly cocktails ($18 each), which were both fresh and tasty. They were able to make a few cocktails into mocktail versions for the kids, which was fun. For food, the lasagna edges is a MUST HAVE. It came out piping hot and was creamy, crispy, mushroomy, and cheesy, easily the best dish of the night. We also had the spinach and cheese stuffed bread, mussels (very small amount of meat for $27), cavatelli, rigatoni, and burger. The burger was disappointing; we ordered medium rare but it was overdone, and strangely soggy. Overall, come for the cocktails and the lasagna edges! read more
