*Finally* checked this place out last night and it is now one of my favorite spots! We started off with some DANK fries (comprised of ingredients unbeknownst to me, but it didn't really matter because it was so delicious). I thought I wasn't feeling ramen so I got the poke bowl with marinated salmon and it was mad tasty, but THEN I tried some of my mate's curry ramen and my mind was blown. I was definitely feeling this ramen, and I don't think there will ever come a time that I won't be feeling it. It was soooo flavorful and slurpy and the tofu was oh-so slimy. Mmmmm. Ordered the chicken ramen through the app today, to pick up for dinner. I pulled right up front around 6:05pm. Popped inside to get my food. It was ready, right at the side counter, so I paid and left. Drove home 25-30 minutes. It was still hot when I opened it to eat. Truly, this ramen knocked my socks off. It was sooooo good and comforting. Perfectly salty and chickeny flavored broth. Toothsome noodles. Tender chicken. After getting stuck in a downpour, it warmed me and made me feel peaceful. Isn't that what you hope for from all meals?? My brother was super jealous, especially after he tasted the ramen. Said we NEED to go ASAP. Hahaha! I concur! Solid place with good food and decent options. They did not have a few menu items when we visited, but we really liked the ambiance--hipster cafe, I would call it--and the good was tasty. I am not a big fan of the adjoining neighborhood, but UB is across the street so you ought to be fine. The ramen itself was on point, the service was OK, and it was relatively quiet for dinner time on a Thursday. While attending the Mermaid and Weasel Wizard Ball (you read that correctly), my boyfriend and I stopped in here to order out for our Sweetest Day dinner because we can't resist Hallmark holidays. The place was clean and well lit, which I really appreciated. My one complaint about the restaurant setup is that the chairs are hard plastic with low backs, which hurt my lumbar just looking at them. Because I'm disabled, that disappointed me because it means I can't ever actually eat in at the establishment because of the discomfort. However, that wasn't our plan, so thankfully I left without any other issues. The food was ready quickly and the service was fine. Because I can't have gluten, I was unable to get the ramen (lame!) and settled instead for the una don, which is eel on a bed of rice. It was fantastic! I've had this dish at other Japanese restaurants and this was the one I've enjoyed the most. The eel was flavorful and had a great crunch from the sesame seeds on top. The rice was plentiful and crispy, which made it have wonderful texture. A touch of seaweed salad on the eel made this dish close to perfect. I'm definitely ordering out from here again. read more

I had the Tori Paitan Ramen which is a creamy pure chicken broth with chashu chicken, corn, green onions, and soft boiled-egg, garlic chips, with drizzle of black garlic oil. So many flavors! Love the ramen noodles too! This place is on the smaller side and on Friday nights -it gets packed! Get there early if you don't want to stand in a line that is out the door. Just as friendly and delicious as SATO on Elmwood with more ramen choices to enjoy! I had the kimchi ramen-hot and a bit spicy with a great combination of flavors and textures with the corn, kimchi and pork. Not to overlook the noodles or the broth-both amazing. Best veggie ramen in town! Hands down! Pricey but totally worth it! Lotus root and the mushrooms totally make it.

My boyfriend is a regular at Sato, and loves that he can get a quick healthy ramen bowl nearby when he doesn't have time to cook. I have to say, I've had better ramen before but still enjoyed my meal. The fermented mushrooms were delicious, but the noodles were not my favourite. My boyfriend got extra shrimp in his bowl, and when I tried one it was still cold so I'm guessing it was just defrosted. I wish they had fried shrimp on the menu. The guys at the restaurant were really nice, especially the waiter/greeter. The music selection did not fit the theme, but since everyone working there was a college student I can understand that they want to play their own music. Overall, not a bad restaurant. It's great for students nearby, and the atmosphere is fun and modern. Some tips I would have for the restaurant is to wipe around the rim of the bowl before serving and to leave a tip jar at the front! read more

Loved it! My friend and I were bored, I was craving ramen noodles and remembered that a real ramen bar exists. Having never been to one, and not a person who ever eats cultural/ethnic food, I was a little nervous about what to order Our waitress was so sweet, offered drink recommendations, and when my friend wanted to know how spicy the kimchi was she brought it over for her to try first. Secondly, the portions were huge. Now, we aren't enormous eaters but I barley got through half of my poke bowl and my friend with her kimchi ramen-both delicious along the veggie dumplings. The only thing I could say bad was I wish a fork would have been floating around for the inevitable inability of me using chopsticks. Great place for ramen BUT BEWARE, it is mostly a communal eating style seating. Many people are ok with this, and many are not. It's similar to the hibachi setup if you have never done communal tables before, where parties sit at a table with nothing much to divide them. It's a little strange, but it's not so bad. We (3) shared the main table with another group (5) and it was kinda fun. We mostly kept to our own conversations, but there were moments of inter party interaction. There are seats at the counter and a few tables that fit 2-3 people as well. While the communal eating is interesting, I would have liked for there to be more tables for smaller groups. As for the food, the food was good. The entire table ordered the ramen and it came out nice and hot. Overall the ramen was good, but I'd put it down as slightly too salty, although most ramen is made with a good amount of salt anyways (I'll chalk it up to personal taste). read more

We stopped by at about 11:30am on our way through Buffalo from a weekend trip to Toronto. I've never been in Buffalo before, making the juxtaposition between the cute, modern ramen shop and the dreary snow and brick seem even more endearing. The shop is small, and started to fill up quite a bit by noon. The setup is a bit different than I am accustomed to, with a large table in the middle and bar seating everywhere else. I would definitely not want to be in there when they are at their busiest, when I am with a large group, or when I want to sit at a table with my friends and gossip. We all ordered the spicy miso, but I got mine just simple with an egg. I docked a star partly because to add an egg to a simple costs $1.50, while upgrading to a regular size is $2. I didn't want all of the "extras" but I usually eat ramen with an egg elsewhere. That being said, the ramen was amazing! The noodles were the perfect texture and the broth was not too salty with a smooth, herby feeling on the palate. If you're turned off or on by the "spicy" in the title, I will give fair warning that it is a mild spice and is more of a light kick if anything. It was about the right amount for a light lunch! Omg how have I not come here before?! Heck how is it I never tried proper ramen until earlier this year?? Well thank goodness I did and thank goodness I came here. Me and hubby just wanted a low key Friday date night. We decided to walk there actually cuz it's only like a 15 min walk from our place. The weather was perfect too, a fall chill but not cold. The ramen choices on the menu are plentiful and we wavered between like 4 choices for awhile. Oh there's also a Poké bowl on the menu that was interesting but we found out that item is only seasonal (spring/summer) so just FYI on that. Finally we settled on the spicy miso ramen with pork for him and the rich chicken broth one for me. Both were absolutely delish. I preferred my chicken and the hubby preferred his so that worked out well ;) The portions are pretty plentiful and neither one of us quite finished so we got some leftovers to take home. I can't wait to go back and try more flavors!! Perfect cold buffalo day food! ** update: have gone back a few times since and been just as delighted until tonight :/ So me and the hubby decided to share a buffalo chicken ramen tonight and we picked it up as take out. We got home and dived in. We both took a first bite and looked at each other rising an eyebrow... umm who thought it would be a good idea to put pieces of crispy buffalo chicken into a bowl of soup so that it's weirdly soggy. 2 star at max as a person who has ate a lot of Asian cuisine I'm going to have to tell you that the noodle in their signature ramen is undercooked it doesn't have the soft and slurp into your mouth texture the egg despite looking perfectly fine but actually the yolks are raw. I am a huge noodle fan but I didn't even finish my kimchi ramen. It tasted okay at the first place but later it became very very salty. Seems like they didn't capture the essence of kimchi but just the saltiness. And the ramen was too hard at the beginning. My friend ordered a miso ramen with fried tofu, I like that a lot more than mine! But she also complained that the noodle is very hard but later it became softer. The fries is delicious but it may over fried a little bit. Because they were too hard and even accidentally made my mouth bleeding. It does taste good so I still enjoy it. But, seriously, it's too hard. According to my friend who came here often, 'it's not what it should be'. In all. The food all looks pretty. Decent place. Smaller than I expected though. We had the steamed buns, spring rolls and ramen noodle soup. Buns were good. The fresh cucumber helped to cool down the heat. Spring rolls were alright. Fresh and crunchy as they're supposed to be bit just a tad on the greasy side. We ordered one of the kimchi ramen, and one of the spicy miso ramen. Both were good but the spicy miso didn't have the slices of meat like pictured, just small chucks of meat. We came to find out that they had ended up running out of food as this is the week that the college crowd returns and Sato is getting used to the pace of the crowd (we were there at 5.30 in the evening) which I think explains why no meat but we were never told this by the servers. Would have been nice to know though. I'm not amazed by this place, I didn't think it was anything spectacular but for the price and the portions I won't complain. Although I don't know if I would return with so many other ramen/Pho places in town (no I'm not putting the 2 in the same category) but my husband said he'd definitely come here again. What can I say the Ramen was delicious. So we walked into this small restaurant with 4 of us. The waiter/host/busboy asked a couple to move from their seats so we could sit together, the couple moved without any issues. Then the waiter began to tell us that they were out of quite a few items. I thought to my self it is only 12:30pm and we came at 12pm and they were closed. So I ended up getting the the Spicy Miso Ramen. It was the best Ramen I have ever had. It had a soft boiled egg, pork and the spicy was just perfect. You are probably thinking why only 3 stars then. Well the service was bad, took forever to order, he was unsure of the items they had. Another reason for 3 stars was the cleanliness of the place. As I walked towards the bathroom all you saw was filth walking to the bathroom and past the kitchen. The restaurant was grossly under staffed. Management needs to have more than 2 people working on a late Saturday evening shift. Our food wasn't hot, which is kind of the point of Ramen. They missed half of our order. The curry was fine but they didn't serve the egg I ordered with it. I had to wait 1.5 hours for kara-age chicken I ordered. When it came, it was burnt and disgusting. The cook obviously did not know how to use the cast iron he cooked it in. On top of it all, they charged automatic gratuity for incredibly poor service. I am definitely a fan, though I have to give them another whirl before I can give them a 5-star rating. My experience was pretty good, but not spectacular. It reminded me a lot of ramen spots that I've been to in Chinatowns and in Vancouver. Where in American culture, we like to sit an socialize over our food, the ramen spots that I have been to "git 'er done!" They are not large restaurants designed to hang out in. They are smaller locations that are very communal (you may often sit at a table with strangers) and you eat your food and get the heck out...not in a rude way; it's just business. Cultures with lots of people tend to operate that way...even in the larger cities in the U.S. For a long time, I thought of ramen as a starving student's way of breaking from the dollar-menu-norm" and expanding their horizons to other cultural cuisines. This restaurant is case-and-point that all ramen doesn't come from a styrofoam cup with a flavor packet. There is really good ramen here with sophisticated flavors and more options than just chicken and beef. They help me keep my chopstick game in check as I get my practice in while slurping up the goods. We went to this place a little later in the evening, and even though the employees looked like they were ready to close when we walked in, they straightened up their acts when we came in to order. My first time trying this place was not disappointing. The Spicy Miso Ramen was not spicy for me but overall it was tasty. The vegetables were fresh and the meat was good. One problem is that this place does not seem hygienic at all. Bathrooms, freezers, behind the counters may scare people away. There even is a smell around the bathroom, which is placed right in front of the freezers or fridge. If you don't care about the hygiene of the place go ahead this place will offer you 4 out of 5 stars food. Great spot, I got the regular spicy miso ramen to go and it was done promptly and given to me with the broth in a separate container (as it should be). The egg was done to perfection. The chashu pork was my least favorite part of the dish, it was very thin and therefore dry. The broth however was out of this world and I would order cups of it to go, just to drink..
