The customer service was embarrassing. The host sat us, literally threw the menus down, and walked away without saying anything. When we asked for water, we got a half full glass of ice water. Most sushi places give you miso soup and a house salad when you order a roll. Sato charges extra for those on the side. They brought "clean" side plates to the table that had food on them. They also don't have a happy hour, and their rolls are significantly more expensive than the other places that give you free soup and salad. Also, their $4 house salad consists of about 6 leaves of lettuce and their dressing. Definitely a waste of time and money. I use to come here A LOT when this was Sho Sushi. Haven't been in awhile because of a diet I was on, but was in the mood for some sushi today, so wanted to go. Pulled up and seen a sign that was a sad sight "Under new ownership" with a different name. I was very disappointed, as this has always been a sign that the place is going to be horrible. I have never been to a restaurant that was better, after they were bought out. I decided to stay and give it a try though. Let me say I was VERY glad I did. This place is awesome! They added a menu with pictures for the AYCE, and added so many tasty options. Tried new things that were fantastic and the old stuff was even better. The Ono was the best I have ever had anywhere else, and the fish to rice ratio was one of the best I have ever seen at an AYCE restaurant and I have been to more than I can count on my hands and feet (Thus the reason I needed to go on said diet...) My wife said the the Eel was the best she has had anywhere, and their California rolls, wow. I know those are pretty generic, but I have never had better, which is awesome when the base for a lot of rolls is California roll. The only negative is the Spanish roll isn't the same as Sho had, and the Monkey balls no longer exist. But if you have never had either, it will not matter, and if you have, they have plenty of other great things. I will end my review by also adding the the service was spot on. Happy, smiles, friendly, quick with refills. It is some of the best service I have ever received, which is unheard of at most sushi restaurants I have been to period. Neat little place! Clean and pleasant interior design, friendly chefs and helpful servers. The miso soup is sooooo delicious! The baked mussels were alright, not fishy tasting but not super flavorful either, but they were nice and hot. I also appreciate that they didn't put too much mayonnaise on the baked mussels. The Hello Tuna (seared tuna wrapped around asparagus and 4pcs per order, 1 order per person) was awesome. And the salmon sushi is AMAZING. Ice cold temperature like it's supposed to be, and big fish portions with nice fat ratios. YUMMY! The yellowtail sushi is also one of my FAVORITE yellowtails that I've ever tasted. They have creative combinations for their rolls, and they also offer sashimi salad (1 order per person). They also offer flavored sake (peach or apple). Monday through Thursday, they have a happy hour but only with an order of AYCE: $1 sake bombs, $1.99 mugs tap, and a $15.99 tower. The AYCE doesn't come with dessert, but they do sell dessert. $3.99 for green tea ice cream, $3.99 for mochi ice cream, and $5.99 for tempura green tea ice cream. However, they do offer one free dessert if you leave them any yelp review (aka either positive or negative; no bribing). read more

when i lived in upland i loved sho, the sushi restaurant that was here before. when i come back to town i like takumi or one of my favorites is one spot in Rancho, but i've come here a couple times hoping for the best when the others are crowded. there are a few good rolls here, but nothing great. the nigiri is almost all rice and the salmon i got was full of silver skin, just not appetizing at all. i was here Sunday dinner and the price was $27/person for everyone over 8 years old, the most expensive AYCE in the area and simply not worth it. 9 of us total and 3 were kids we paid $297 with 6 sodas, tax and 18% auto added tip. i was very disappointed and didn't even want to finish what we ordered, but screw that, i would have has to pay even more! read more

Everyone is very welcoming, even when we stay past closing time...the sushi is the best I've ever had..I love rolls with no rice and they have a great selection. I had been coming here for about a year with no issues and I've witnessed a couple shouting matches at this place but at the time paid it no mind. The sushi is solid and I have no complaints there, but the service is unfriendly at best and they dont smile. However, I did notice a couple things about this place that I didn't like but didn't make a big deal out of it at the time, but after getting treated like dirt during yesterday's visit, I thought I'd mention them. The first thing I noticed is when you order rolls and sushi, they give you the rolls first so you get full on rice and not get to eat as much nigiri sushi. The second thing I noticed is if you order nigiri sushi for the 2nd round, the cuts are noticeably much more inferior than the 1st round cuts, as if to discourage you from getting more. The 3rd issue is that dinner starts at 3pm! Beware of this because they will charge you the dinner price with no warning or explanation. And that's what happened on my last vist: I showed up at 3:15pm, and I recieved the lunch menu (which is cheaper and a lower quality selection from the dinner menu items) so I ordered from it and only the lunch items of course. So I was very surprised when they time came to pay the bill and they billed me the dinner price. After explaining to the lady owner that I dont feel it's fair to get charged the dinner price when I was given the lunch menu only, she got very upset and argumentative at something that I thought surely was trivial and that she would see my point about a fair charge and treat me like the return customer I am with a smile. But no, she got visibly upset, and when her husband came in, she complained loudly to him in a foreign language and then proceeded to my table and slam the revised check on my table. I looked at her just appalled at how I'm being treated over a $3 difference in the tab! I told her that $3 must be more important to you than a return customer who tips generously at that! If you like attitude and crappy service this is your spot! read more
