Walking into Kaiba, I had big hopes... after all, it's among the top rated Yelp restaurants around. That said, just like going to see a movie that you're excited to see in advance, I'm fully aware that my hopes may have tainted my review a little. Before I go too far off course, let me say it was a solid four and may have been a five without the hopes and a couple of small things. Gwen and I were tired after a long week and wanted to have a nice dinner together. So we pulled up our Empty Nester Yelp list, to see what was close by and also fairly well rated, that we hadn't visited yet. We both love Ramen so we were excited to check out Kaiba. And since it is in La Verne, it was a good option because it's right next-door to us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First impressions were good. It's in a clean strip mall setting and the atmosphere was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We didn't wait long, and we were immediately greeted by a friendly server. We were told of the specials and surprised that you could get a $.99 beer, so I got that of course. When they brought the beer out, it looked like a $.99 beer - it was in quite a small glass. As opposed to a former sushi place, we loved where you could get a tall Sapporo during happy hour for four dollars which felt more worth it. Probably good to mention the size but overall, I could've ordered more if I wanted to. We both ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and shared a basic salad and basic eel roll. The salad was fine, nothing special. The roll was as expected also nothing special but that's OK. It was a basic roll. It was presented a little messy on the plate. When the Ramen came, it looked pretty and smelled great and we were excited to dive in. First thing I noticed was plastic utensils in the form of a soup spoon and I believe the Ramen is in a plastic bowl - black plastic at that. Two big reasons I don't want plastic for my food maybe three. First, it doesn't retain heat. The Ramen was warm-hot, not hot. That's understandable being served in any plastic bowl. Second, this is nearly a five star Yelp restaurant and you're serving food on plastic dishes. I personally try to avoid as much plastic in my life as possible, especially when consuming hot items. And anyone with concerns about heating plastic and food health will tell you that black plastic is certainly want to avoid. I mentioned it to Gwen and because she's so sweet she said, maybe it's not plastic. But I'm pretty certain it is. The Ramen was pretty good - not the best I've ever had - but pretty solid. If I'm having Ramen or Pho, I want it hot. Not lukewarm and not warm-hot. Another issue was a lack of detail in service. We sat for about 20 minutes with all of our dirty dishes in front of us and it wasn't that busy. For those reasons, it was a four and in some ways I could even see close to a three. But these are easily fixable. Invest in proper dishes heated plastic is not good for your consumers nor does it look proper in terms of what you're trying to portray. And although the servers were nice, a little more presence would do. No one even asked if I wanted another tiny beer.

Let me start off my saying 3 things. 1. This is a group rating, 2. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience/location was nice for a group lunch[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 3. Service was good. So food wise, it's a bit tricky. I got the salmon spicy roll and salad with a beer. Price wise, 5 stars, you can't beat a $1 beer. But the roll for me was a 3. The reason I mention a group rating is because the 3 guys that got the ramen bowls raved about it. I completely finished the lunch. And when I asked they said 5 stars. So between the good price point and the high rating on the ramen, I averaged it to a 4. If I come back I would definitely have to try the ramen lunch combo instead of sushi

Kaiba (La Verne) exceeded all expectations! I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen & 3 Gyoza ($15.99 - Lunch Special). It's spectacular! The noodles are firm, springy, and fresh. Its broth is rich, creamy, and savory. Every bite felt like heaven. (Important Note: Currently, there's a Yelp Check-In Promotion! Free Ice Cream, Soda, or Hot Tea for one in-person Check-In.) I arrived at Kaiba (La Verne) on Saturday (around 1:45PM). Parking is easy. The lot is spacious & big. Service felt professional, accommodating, and welcoming. My server (Jayden) worked hard. Jayden maintained a bright cheery demeanor; Jayden was very attentive & quickly assisted me; and Jayden always worked non-stop in the background. My food arrived around 6 minutes and 15 seconds. Very fast!! As mentioned, I found happiness in my meal. This Tonkotsu Ramen felt memorable and special. Its egg is silky, falling apart effortlessly as it hits the tongue. Its chasu is charred, tender, and thick. The broth is creamy and rich. And most importantly, the noodles are bountiful and springy. I felt all my stress seep away with each euphoric bite. In addition, the Gyoza tasted fresh and crisp. Its filling came juicy, and I reveled how each bite left a light crunch. And the Green Tea Ice Cream (Complimentary with Yelp Check-In Promotion) tasted chill, smooth, and refreshing. All in all, the value and quality of this meal felt unmatched. Concerning ambiance, Kaiba (La Verne) felt a little sporadic. It's clean, spacious, and well-ventilated. However, its appearance is a little ugly since folded plastic bags and boxes are sprawled outside in plain view. Still, I appreciated the food photos on the wall. Kaiba (La Verne) also has utility. I appreciated the flat screen TV; it plays the football game. Also, I observed a high-chair for kids, so this location is family friendly. The location also felt spacious with its high ceiling. Overall, I had a lovely, magical experience at Kaiba (La Verne). I am very excited that the hype is genuine. I left full and happy. If you love ramen, this is an easy recommendation. 5 out of 5. "GO!!!!"

I visited this restaurant with a bunch of coworkers since we left the office late. They were able to sit all seven of us quickly and the service was incredibly fast. The sushi was pretty good and the Udon was delicious. The broth was flavorful. The big thing is the value. This place is not that expensive and everything was delicious for the price.

This place was a recommendation from a friend and boy it delivered! The food was super tasty, a fun selection of rolls beyond the traditional ones but still some old favorites. The wait staff was very attentive which I really appreciated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice quick date night spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Tuna poke bowl

Pros: HUGE specialty rolls -- one order is enough to share, or even make it your own meal. The prices are fair and reasonable for the large portion of food you get. We ordered the crispy rice spicy tuna appetizer and it was large and tasty! I think this + a salad + miso soup would be more than ample food. We also enjoyed the soft shell crab appetizer, a tuna poke bowl, and the Hungry Man roll -- all was delicious! Excellent, attentive, and friendly service with a smile. Ambiance: casual & clean, with ample seating. Free parking in a shopping lot. Con: surprisingly, there is no sushi combo on the menu. There is sashimi, sashimi combo, and even carpaccio made with raw fish, but no sushi combo, which I found a bit odd for a sushi joint. I was really craving some nigiri sushi in combo form.

My girlfriend and I have been on the hunt for a new ramen spot to try and landed on this, this past weekend. My plate wasn't bad, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm not a big fan of ramen so we usually try to find places that have bowls or something similar. I really liked the amount of chicken I was served. Compared to other places we've been this was a lot! I also tried my girlfriend's noodles and didn't care for them much, but then again I never do care for ramen. My plate also came with a California role, which I didn't enjoy as much as I thought I would. My girlfriend enjoyed her plate, but wished it was spicier. All in all I really liked the amount of food we got. I also have to mention our waiter was super, super nice and attentive!

If you love Garlic, Teriyaki and Ponzu sauce then this is your place. Only dined here for lunch. I tend to gravitate towards the same starters overtime I arrive here. Never disappointed and always a great dining experience.

Everything about this spot was amazing! The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, and the ramen was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. You can really taste the quality in every bite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was great[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and the service made the experience even better. Definitely a place I'll be coming back to--highly recommend if you're craving sushi or ramen!

Wanted to try a different sushi spot with the family, found Kaiba browsing Yelp. The staff here is super friendly (my mom thought we already knew each other) and our order came out very fast. Their roll selection was limited, but they clearly prioritize doing a few well over many poorly. Large, great ingredients, reasonably priced. Kids really enjoyed the beef udon. Seafood udon tasted fresh, not frozen which is unfortunately all too common. And the yellow tail carpaccio was wonderful!

Recently visited for a late night Sunday dinner and enjoyed the service and food. I like that the menu isn't too overwhelming. I tried a few rolls and they were all delicious. My favorite had to be the Spicy Garlic Albacore Roll. The sauce was soo good. The fish was good quality and fresh. The spicy tuna on crispy rice appetizer was also really good. I also enjoyed the complimentary green tea with a check-in. Service was friendly and they checked up on us throughout the meal. It's also very fairly priced for what you get. Will definitely return!

The broth is the real star here. Rich, flavorful, and clearly simmered for hours, it has that perfect depth that makes you want to keep sipping long after the noodles are gone. Whether you go for tonkotsu, shoyu, or spicy miso, each one is packed with layers of flavor that feel both authentic and thoughtfully crafted. The noodles have the ideal texture--springy, chewy, and never mushy. You can tell they're made or cooked with care because they hold up beautifully in the broth without getting lost in it. The toppings are just as impressive: tender chashu pork that practically melts in your mouth, perfectly soft-boiled eggs with jammy yolks, fresh scallions, and nori that adds just the right finishing touch. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the kind of place you can go alone for a comforting meal or bring friends for a casual hangout. Service is quick and friendly, and the staff seems genuinely happy to help you customize your bowl exactly how you like it. Portion sizes are generous, and everything comes out hot and fresh. It's also surprisingly consistent--every visit tastes just as good as the last, which is rare and really appreciated.
