Since I'm remote, I can only agree to it to move forward. 10mins later, got a call from the tech saying, "there are good and bad news! Good news, the unit was indeed completely fine and it's working alright. The unit was slightly "UNPLUGGED" from the outlet and it works perfectly after I plugged it back in. Bad news, the $175 is due. " I appreciate that the "diagnosis" save me hundreds instead of replacing a fully working unit, but I would have thought the first free initial check should have looked at the connection in the first place. The plumber who came out was friendly enough, but the quote came in at $1,400 for a straightforward PEX repair. I had already done the discovery, cut the access hole, and identified the leak. This was not a complex job and did not justify that price. I ended up calling another plumbing company who is doing the same repair for $300-$400, over $1000 less. Price padding a simple repair, especially when it feels like it's based on the assumption an insurance claim will be filed, isn't a good look. Honest pricing and integrity matter, and in this case, they missed the mark.
