Really upset with what happened to this store. Frequented buildabike often at their former location years ago and always had awesome service. Seems to have gone downhill. They charged me $160 to replace a derailleur, hanger, and cable then never actually replaced the cable and gave me an old derailleur. read more

I had a great experience at Build-A-Bike! They had the only 2021 Giant Fathom 29 1 in the state with my frame size according to Giant's site. I NEEDED the bike on a Saturday but could not get to the store till after they were already closed. Adam kept his store open 40 minutes after closing time for me and helped me size my ride, add pedals and water bottles, and taught me all about the new bike technology! After my front derailleur cable broke last Saturday I came back in. Adam tried to replace the cable, but the shifter was damaged inside, so I left the bike and Woody ordered a set of shifters w/cables. I love this place! I work in a bike shop too, an urban feminist one. I'll admit I was skeptical of the only bike shop around for miles in the distant suburbs. But oh how pleasantly surprised I was! Staff are patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. They answered my endless questions with a smile and conversation of their own. They were all men, but said the shop was owned by a woman. They were super welcoming, not at all bro-y or blasé. I really really appreciate this, and if you're reading this know: this is a bike shop for everyone! Brought my bikes rear triangle to have the pivot bearings removed and replaced. They did it in 20 minutes and charged $30 for the work. Best price around all Phoenix. I called around and every place said $80. Mind you I had taken my suspension apart and I already had the replacement bearings, all that was needed was to have bearings removed and replaced. If I didn't do my own work on my bikes I would come here. read more

What a professional, sweet group of people! I went in with a Diamondback bike (which they don't sell) and they were very accommodating and knowledgeable! I am NOT a bike professional and they didn't treat me any different then they would someone who knows all about bikes!! I had purchased a bike for my wife here several years ago. Her bike was stolen this week and I went back to Savage to buy another one. My wife biked the one she liked and we started the payment process. It was then I was told the $650 bike also had a $30 delivery charge. I questioned the charge since we were taking the bike with us and was told by a manager it was for the delivery to them and that every Townie shop charges the same thing. I didn't like his attitude or his explanation so we left without the bike. The next day I called two other Townie distributors and they had no such delivery charge. I bought her bike that day and swore I would never return to Savage. They not only lost the profit on a good sale but they lost a future customer as well. read more

Very cool local shop. I liked they had a good selection of pivot and giant grand bikes. I haven't found pivot at to many places so that was nice to see. They also have a shop there so you can get you bike serviced there as well which is a nice perk. I don't need a new bike at the moment but when I do this place is on my radar. I came across it when I needed my saddle stem trimmed. Glad I ran into this place and it's really close to my new house which is a bonus!! read more

I was really impressed with the service I received here. I have a 12 year old Raleigh hybrid bike. The bike was due for a tune up and had issues with the rear tire. Adam helped me determine what the bike needed and was very helpful in picking out tires for both front and rear. He explained the differences in the products and his recommendations. Adam was also very good at explaining what repairs my bike needed and what the charges would be. My bike was ready the day it was promised. When I picked it up it looked like a new bike. It was cleaned and everything worked perfectly. Adam noticed the rear tire was punctured and replaced the tube while I waited. I rode my bike when I got home. Thank god for delightful surprises. I'm a pretty hard customer to please. If you look at my other posts you'll see many times I don't give wonderful reviews to everyone. I don't take customer service lightly. So it is beyond awesome that I discovered Build-A-Bike. At first I was hesitant because I thought they'd have a bunch of bike pieces I'd have to pick from to build a bike. Not the case at all. It is a great bike shop with awesome customer service. I needed two tires and tubes installed, and they took care of me in 15-20 minutes. On top of that they let me burn off some energy by letting me take one of their bikes out and pedal around behind the strip mall where there are zero cars to worry about. The prices were below what I expected, and that is always a nice bonus. This is my new go to bike store. The bike tech did a great job and a rebuild, the tech was helpful and always mindful of his distance and wore a mask while around me. However, the rest of the staff never did wear a mask the times I was in to drop off and then pick up a bike. I would love to go back and shop there, but i cannot look past the blatant disregard for their own health and consequently the customers coming into the store. Customers routinely came in wearing masks, but most staff never even attempted to put on a face mask. They're planning on expanding in the same property, so I hope they expand their thinking and wear a mask while we remain in this pandemic. read more

I have had multiple great experiences at Build-A-Bike. Each member of the team had been helpful and patient as I went back and forth on my decision of which style Electra bicycle to buy. Additionally they made my wife feel comfortable when she purchased her bike. For a bike shop that has roughly 5 different competitors in a 10 mile radius, savage seems incredibly eager to lose their clientele and go out of business with their atrocious customer service and inept technicians. I purchased a new hollow axle from savage which turned out to have the wrong thread pitch. When I returned to get an axle with the correct thread pitch, they swapped it for a new one. I didn't realize until later that it was a solid axel and wouldn't work with my setup. The technicians had all the pieces they needed to identify what I required and they messed up, twice. When I went back the third time to get a new axle, I was told that they would have to order one. I asked if I could get a credit for the money I spent on the original axle, since it was their error, and the manager on duty, woody, said that I either needed the receipt or to verify that I purchased the axle at savage by identifying who I purchased it from. The technician who sold it to me was there, he remembered me, he remembered the sale, and yet the manager still denied the credit and said I needed the receipt. Maybe woody was having a bad day, he had seemed annoyed at having to help me in the first place, but to change up the requirements after I had met them was shady and weak and refusing to accept that he had done so proved what type of management savage hires. You can't trust a shop that won't own up to its mistakes. Now, in fairness, I did make the mistake of not keeping my receipt, but really I'm guilty of the far greater crime of assuming that the professional technicians of a supposedly reputable bike shop wouldn't provide me with the wrong axel twice in a row, and it makes me wonder about how many other little things they are doing wrong when you bring in your bike. i'm sure she's not the only one, but the only employee I've interacted with who seems to genuinely care about customers is Tori, maybe she can sit down and teach woody how to be more amicable, he might find it useful. If you can get to a different shop, I cannot recommend it enough to take your money elsewhere. If I can't trust them with an axle, would you trust them with your bike? read more

Went there to get fitted for a hardtail bike in the $1000 range and spoke with Woody. I am 5'9" and 28" in-seam, I liked the Giant Fathom and Woody determined that I needed a small frame but didn't take the time to figure out the seat post would be too short for me, I opted for the $1200 Fathom2. When I went to pick up the bike, it was obvious that the seat post was too short, Woody tried to raise it up but it was already at the highest setting so he said "you should be fine", I wasn't fine and needed a taller post, they couldn't just replace it and ordered a new one at $164 cost. Woody should have been more diligent in fitting me and letting me know ahead of time the bike will end up costing me $1364. If so, I would have opted for a lower cost Giant model without the fancy dropper post, etc.. what's the point of getting fitted for a bike that doesn't fit? I will not go back there again read more

My son is special needs so he has a balance bike, but the guys in this shop fixed the tires and then gave it a legit tune up, made some handle bar adjustments to give it a better look (guys haha)... Bought a 2nd hand 20" mountain bike for five bucks (!) from someone on Craigslist a couple weeks ago. It actually wasn't in horrible condition but regardless, I planned to have it looked at, tweaked, greased etc before releasing the six-year-old on it. I honestly didn't know that Build-A-Bike was in Surprise and was planning to arrange a service at Performance Bike on Thunderbird, but the wife pointed out that there was a bike shop that she'd seen from the road "behind Kohls". At the time they weren't showing on Yelp so I submitted the business entry and voila, here I am with the first review. Took the bike in today and boy, what a great experience! Tyler greeted me as soon as I walked in and immediately took my bike to a service area in the corner. While I waited and chatted with him, he fitted a new colored chain, a bell, grips and replaced the rusty old kickstand. Service was done in no more than 20 mins, and for a cost well under what I was expecting! I normally give three stars for places I like and very rarely give four. This place gets five - friendly, efficient, the store is clean, and they look to have a good selection of bikes and parts, and extremely reasonably priced for service. I literally can't think of anything else that I'd expect from a bike store. Well worth anyone's business! read more

Went today to grt the slipping daone again on my new Giant bike..It was wonderful ,they got right to it as I was there and Hopefully fixed it,this time..Fast and friendly service...Bought a nightrider light (have a different one already)Light would not turn on in Shop,I was told to let it charge for 4-6hrs....The one I already have the red light turns when charging..The new one did not do that,only 3 blinking red lights....Called Nightrider customer support and they said red light will go to blue when charging...THe one I have is defective and the sales rep at Savage is wrong....Go back to Savage bikes to exchange light...Walk in they dont have any more of those in stock "It will be a warranty issue" Told by the manager(btw,asked for HIS card he gave me a generic one)...I bought it 2-3hrs ago why warranty issue I asked ..Was told because they have to return it as a warranty to the manufacture..Asked for my money back ,Fine we will charge you a 5% restocking fee...UGH...THEY SOLD ME A NON WORKING LIGHT 2-3 HRS AGO.. read more
