I love this pharmacy and have become a regular here. If my doctor's office wasn't upstairs I probably would have never come across it. I am so glad I did because I am not interested in going to another pharmacy again, even after moving from santa clara to milpitas. I (uninsured) scheduled a covid vaccination back when their advertising said the shots were free. Three weeks later, I got an automated text telling me my appointment was the next day (I had two previous automated appointments, but no covid vaccine each other time I drove there). I get there and have to wait an hour. For those (me) who don't know, the new covid vaccine is not free at the point of service. The government can get a shot for ~$30, the pharmacy can get a shot for ~$115. We paid for the research and the warp speed, btw; you are paying for rent-seekers' profit. Anyway, I was asked for my credit card but was not told the price. Surprise! $175. That's ~$60 administration fee. I had to wait an hour at my third appointment. YAHOO, You Always Have Other Options, I suggest seeking out another Pharmacy. They said they would stay late (after store hours) to service all people waiting in line. Sorry for your wait. Again. I attempted to purchase a 5ml syringe to administer medication for my cat and was told that I needed a prescription to purchase a syringe. This is false. The only requirement to purchase syringes is to be 18 years or older. I explained this to the woman assisting me and she still refused to sell me a syringe. Came here because of the positive reviews on Yelp and the availability of the appointments. Not sure why there are so many positive reviews. The appointment time doesn't mean crap because I had to wait 30 minutes past my appointment time to get my shot. It's poorly managed and people work slowly. A woman working said they were dealing with billing issues and that was what was causing the back up. She said everyone else also had appointments. That does not explain why multiple people who came in after me were able to get their shots first. If the billing is causing a hold up for the order of patients, you should still be taking patients in the order they arrived if they "all have an appointment". MAYBE you should reduce the number of Fridays afternoon appointments you accept if you KNOW that this is an ongoing issue of people wanting to get shots Friday afternoons and evenings. Just a groundbreaking thought there. The older woman doing the actual shots was completely unprofessional wearing jeans. She would not always change out her gloves as I watched her sanitize her gloves with spray. Super awkward chair positioning as you sit down and face the 15 other people waiting for something. This pharmacy comes highly recommended from me, and that's as someone who has worked full time on both sides of a pharmacy counter. Unlike as has become the case in many pharmacies around nowadays, the team working at Savco actually have the time to evaluate and look at your prescription, make sure they get your prescription taken care of correctly, and have the ability to reach out to you and make sure your insurance is correct and on file. When they received a prescription for me and didn't have my insurance on file, they actually gave me a call to let me know they'd gotten the prescription but couldn't fill it out of concern for the cost and lack of coverage on my part and we're asking if I had coverage if like to use--that'd never happen these days with your name brand pharmacies; they'd simply not fill the prescription instead. I really appreciate the individual attention at this pharmacy and feel like if a mistake were made in my prescription that needed to be caught by a pharmacist, this is the place where that could actually happen. In short, I feel like the care and attention one receives at this pharmacy could literally save lives and cannot be overstated. Yes, they can still get busy and get slammed by calls and the occasional long line just like any pharmacy. But you can actually always get someone on the phone at this pharmacy--and can even talk to the pharmacist in short order when you need. It's also like the difference between a small-town vs big city business experience; here they're going to take care of and remember you in an individualized way that simply won't happen when you're just one name out of many in the corporate pharmacy's patient database. read more

This is a wonderful, attentive pharmacy. The owner even wished me a happy birthday. Small things are appreciated. The people are polite, efficient, and friendly. I highly recommend them. I was a loyal customer of Rite Aid on Winchester and Payne. I knew and liked the staff. Walgreens (the parent company) closed the store. They must have been jealous of the goodwill generated by that store. When I went to Walgreens at Payne and Saratoga Ave, the pharmacist was arrogant, rude, demanding, and uncooperative. My doctor changed the dosage on a prescription and she was refusing to fill it. She is not in charge and I pointed out it was to MD who ordered the change. "Well, I'm a PHARMACIST!" she yelled. There was no reason for a confrontation. I demanded she dispense it and she stalled on purpose. I looked on Yelp and found Savco. I'm happy with them and feel appreciated and treated with respect. I'm honestly not even sure how I stumbled upon this pharmacy, but I'm so glad I did! They do a great job to make you feel welcome and have always had my prescription ready to go when I arrive. They communicate clearly to make sure you understand the medication that has been prescribed to you. I used to go to a big box pharmacy a few blocks away from my house (it may start with a big red W) but got tired of being shuffled through & having to wait hours because they hadn't gotten around to filling my prescription. My partner needed a prescription filled and they ran out of it at every Walgreen's in all of the Bay Area. After calling every pharmacy around, Savco had the drug and filled in quickly. I had to pick up the prescription for him, and everytime I've had to do this in the city, it has always been a difficult time because the drug is highly regulated. The staff at Savco understood that I would be coming because we called ahead and were ready for me. They trusted me and did what was best for the patient (my partner) who needed the drugs. I was so anxious driving up, ready to argue. But they smiled, handed me the prescription, and told me to call next time we needed to fill- they could tell us if they had it or not. MUCH FASTER than the wait at CVS. $45 for 3 meds, not bad (#murica!). The pharmascist explained in ludite terminology how to use the meds and it was much appreciated. DO NOT COME HERE FOR THE PHARMACY. My girlfriend and I just went to get our Covid booster shots at 10am today. This pharmacy sells medications, balms, candy and OH! Knives! I have never seen a pharmacy do such a thing. That should have been an indicator to get the hell out of there. After giving our IDs, vaccination cards and showing proof of appointment, we waited in chairs in the lobby of this hospital to be seen. Later, we were called up for receipts and to sign for the boosters. The lady behind the desk said she only needed ONE signature for both shots. I have never, ever heard of a boyfriend being able to sign or consent to any medical issues for a unmarried partner. When it was time for the shots, my understanding was that we would be taken to a room in the back but NO! A man came out with a jug of used needles and a tray that he put on one of the other chairs, without sanitizing the area, next to my girlfriend and me. Come to think of it, I can't remember if he had gloves on to begin with or changed them between myself and her. After horribly administering the two shots, he said you can wait around for a couple minutes if you want. When getting the initial shots, we were made to wait and see if there were any side effects. Here, they seemed unfazed if we came or went. I understand that this is just a booster, but I am shocked by the state and practices of this establishment. After experiencing chronic poor customer service at a big chain pharmacy closest to my home, I decided to look for a pharmacy with good ratings. Savco was one of the top rated pharmacies in the area. When I called for the first time, not only was I able to talk to someone right away, but she also offered more help on how to expedite my order. When I went to pick up the order that same day, I was greeted with a smile and someone helped me right away. In addition, Jay recognized me as a new customer and took some time to get to know me. Well, it's no wonder this pharmacy has such great reviews - I think they are 100% deserving of it and more. I've been here several times to fill family member's medicines...The staff is absolutely impeccable! They remember your name, they work extremely fast and they are always sure to make your day with a genuine smile (and we all know filling pills isn't usually a fun vacation). I recently heard they aim to beat the competitive prices on insurance meds. It's very true as I notice co-pays are cheaper for my family member's meds! That's always a plus. The wait times are never long, the meds are always on-time, staff is always on it...I could go on and on and on ... MY FAVORITE thing about this place? If anyone knows me, they know I love Diet Coke. Just got my Covid booster- kind of: the needle fell off of the syringe at the end of my shot. So there's no way I can know for sure how much of the vaccine I actually got. The guy administering said I got most of it. On the phone right now with the CDC to find out if I need another shot. Checking that the needle is secured to the syringe is BASIC PROTOCOL. Also, he didn't swab me with alcohol until I told him, and he only changes his gloves if they get blood on them because his hands get sweaty. The solution is to double glove, which I guess he doesn't know. I know they're busy, but that's when protocol matters most as accidents can AND DID happen. read more

I totally agree with Kevin! I too was impacted by the abrupt closure of Santa Clara Drug and had to find a new pharmacy nearby, so turned to Yelp and found the great reviews for Savco. This is a well-run operation, entirely professional, and most of all, consistent. I suppose SCD's focus was on compounding, and if that was the case, I also suppose that's the reason why there was always a lead time for any non-compounded prescription or refill. I also admired SCD's interest in training students, but it made for haphazard service. They also weren't the best at record keeping, and I'd often be faced with an outrageous charge for some medications that didn't get processed with the applicable discount. With Savco, I can call in a refill and it will be ready within a couple of hours. If I went in person, I'm sure it would be filled within minutes. So much better than "tomorrow after 12 Noon" or whatever SCD would tell me. I no longer have to call for refills a couple of days in advance to anticipate SCD's lead time. Savco also gets the job done quickly if there's any communication required with the doctor's office. The level of customer service here is tough to beat. I also like Savco's containers and labeling better. It's little things like this that contribute to the overall experience. My one minor complaint is that Savco isn't open on Saturdays, even for half a day. I can work with this, but I'm sure their hours aren't convenient for a lot of people. At the same time, I have to give Jay credit for allowing his staff to enjoy a full weekend off. I highly recommend Savco, and look forward to a long relationship with this capable group of people. read more

Came here for some medication. After some time waiting, I can conclude that this establishment is solid, but their fatal flaw would likely be their location. Granted, we must always make do with what we can. This pharmacy is located right when you enter the building. This can be problematic because there isn't really a waiting area designed in conjunction with their facility; we have people coming in and out of the building site seeking out other treatment from other providers. If this team is able to move out and have their own space, with more room for their team members to work, I'm sure their daily operations would be much smoother and certainly less frustrating. Also, I find it somewhat conflicting and ironic that a pharmacy sells products with artificial ingredients/preservatives/ stuff that does not significantly contribute to one's wellbeing. If consumed in moderation, it shouldn't be an issue, and everyone has a different taste palette. Just my two cents. Dee was helpful in resolving my issue in a timely manner.
