    Three Signs from the Sidewalk

Way too many people are not giving this store enough credit. If you've lived in the neighborhood long enough, you know that the family that owns it and also the people who work there are essentially community staples, and I've earned everything that they have. I hardly ever go to Savemore anymore, primarily because like most people note, you save less but that shouldn't be any reason not to shop there. The prices are a bit high, but it's understandable because it's a local business. Even more, they have to make a profit otherwise they could be pushed out like so many other failed businesses in the area and our state in general. What stands out to me is that they truly are a neighborhood grocery store that has practically everything a community could want. The food that they sell here, you can get at most grocery stores. The atmosphere is also always active and respectful. It's easy to get to, they're open until pretty late, the staff is friendly, and despite being broken into numerous times over the years, have been robbed that gun point years back, not once have they ever been phased nor put into a corner to where they would actually leave the neighborhood. I can never see the neighborhood without this place. 4/5

Great name. I'll "Save More" because I won't be buying from here. I called midway through construction of a multi-bottle order of whiskey. Was ordering via Drizly. With two of the four or five bottles added in preparation for the upcoming holidays and a neighborhood tasting, I called, and was transferred to someone who didn't want to work. I guess they're too successful. I asked which Act and Scene (batch) they carried for High Whiskey's A Midwinter Night's Dram. He said it was from last year only after following up on his original lazy answer. "Last year" doesn't really tell me which Scene. I can guess which Act. I'd probably be open to it, but at least tell me if I care enough to call. I've included a picture of a label in this review to show how easy it is to tell. And I politely mentioned that. He said he understood that, but the bottle wasn't near him at the moment. Why have a phone? Maybe he was too busy to make a quick few hundred bucks, but though I was very polite, he couldn't be bothered. So that's that. I'll mirror him and say "Why bother?" My neighbors and friends, like others, buy based on word of mouth the things we like or want to try. We're always happy to find new sources, which is where this store could distinguish itself. Within reason, it isn't about the money, it's about the selection. For me, every transaction is clean and quick, and I'll buy based on a merchant's recommendation. Yet this store has distinguished itself in the wrong way. Thanks Savemore, we hardly knew ye. Congrats on the overwhelming success.

Savemore is a small neighborhood market with a deli counter (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=WAxnJuao45itv2clpYsp5Q) with pastries, donuts (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=ECjB6AT0w9Lk9l7x7IVB7w), and coffee (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=x4-1I7Kuy3UvlL24cTb8Tw) available in addition to sandwiches and meats by the pound. I've like the deli sandwiches here along with their hot sandwiches like Reuben and BBQ Chicken which can get messy (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=_0CgHOTNyHR34UasoyI3uw). They redid their chalkboard menu and the Falafel was more prominent so I gave it a try. I started to regret this decision when I heard the microwave start up. Looked OK (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=EY0seZVk_q_Z_Kk3b7pMaA&userid=DsHsuhUvyyW_75zFcJxkKw), but hard pita and microwaved falafel don't make for a good sandwich which is pulling the overall rating from 4 stars to 3.

    What I paid for

I don't know how they are in person but you're better off not ordering through any delivery service from here. I got ~ half of what I paid for if you count incorrect substitutions. So disappointing, especially given the selection they claim to offer. Pics of what was ordered v. what was delivered

5-Star Review for Uriah at Sprouts…read more I wanted to take a moment to recognize Uriah for the exceptional customer service he consistently provides. I have been shopping at this Sprouts location for years, and he is truly one of the best employees I have ever encountered. Uriah is always knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely pleasant. No matter how busy the store is, he takes the time to help customers with a positive attitude and a smile. His attention to detail and commitment to customer service never go unnoticed. One thing I particularly appreciate is his dedication to food safety and cleanliness. I've observed him changing his gloves appropriately when preparing sandwiches and meals, which demonstrates both professionalism and respect for customers. What stands out most is his consistency. Every interaction with Uriah is positive. He is helpful, approachable, hardworking, and clearly takes pride in his work. Employees like him are a major reason I continue to shop at this location. Sprouts is fortunate to have him on the team. If there were a higher rating than 5 stars, I would gladly give it. Uriah is truly a 100/10 and deserves recognition for the outstanding job he does every day.

I was offered a free taster of chocolate candy. That was fun. I love the store colors. It's a grounding experience. Nearby are nice, clean benches and tables for sitting, taking in the sun, and eating some of your favorite treats, from them or nearby Chipotle. The prices were competitive. I had a taste for crab patties. They had some ground crab, however. I hope they will consider carrying crabcakes one day. Otherwise, I rate this place a 10. Yummy desserts.

Produce is also excellent with organic and non-organic on virtually every item. Cheese corner is really good with dozens of varieties and sizes. I like their liquor and wine section, and can't imagine very many situations where they couldn't cover my needs. The prepared food is not worth the trip for that alone, and is really pretty uninspiring. They stock everything I need. They have great, consistent people working check out. Prices in some areas are a little bit higher than somewhere like WF, but they are not a massive corporation, so it is understandable. The staff works like a friendly cohesive team offering great customer service. The market was full of customers, but they did a fantastic job at not allowing lines to form. The place had a farmers market/Sprouts kind of feel and carried predominantly organic produce. They have almost every type of product but maybe only 1-2 brands for each. I liked that there were many plant-based options, from cream cheese to frozen meals or sweets, but I was disappointed that they specifically didn't have nondairy yogurt which is one of my go-to's for breakfast. Almost everything is organic, and the price reflects that; a regular 15oz can of tomato sauce was $4. Besides that, it seems like a safe and convenient place to shop with their wide selections. But there's a reason for my continued patronage at this store: it slashes my grocery budget by at least 50 percent, if not more. It makes a big difference during these inflationary times. I used to stick with packaged goods, but in more recent years I've also been getting as much produce as possible at this GO. It's quite a bit less than at the other grocery store I often frequent, a family-run business in the Dimond district. It's not hard to find quality produce here, and they have a respectable amount of organics. The one thing that keeps me from giving this store a full five stars is the fact that they allow signature gatherers to set up shop by the front door, and these people thrust their their damn clipboards and pens in your face when you try to walk in. Today, when I politely declined to fork over my signature, the woman told me, "You should try to give a hoot about this," which was quite annoying. I'm not going to put my signature on something I haven't researched beforehand. These things are not always what they seem to be. In any case, I go to Grocery Outlet to do my shopping, not to debate ballot initiatives with people I do not know, and certainly not to be shamed by them when I don't give them what they want. I really, really wish the GO would not allow these signature gatherers to harass their customers, who are not there to engage in political discussions. In fact, I wish they wouldn't allow these people on the property AT ALL.
