Food price / quality rating 9.. Atmosphere is contemporary Victorian bistro. Large well-designed bar area with about 20 seats at the bar and several high tops and tables. Excellent party room! Three separate dining rooms are nicely laid out connecting to two large outdoor seating areas. Menu is typical Italian offerings. They have a limited but well chosen draught beer selection. Service was very good. We split a Meatball Parmesan sub with hot peppers. The bread was homemade (fantastic), and so was the salad dressing. First visit, won't be the last. We're visiting from Northern Virginia and just finished a long 8 hours in traffic and needed a nice relaxing meal. The menu was creative and the food was perfect. Got a few pizzas and a tagliatelle bolognese. Pizzas were good. Wait was 25 minutes over the hour they said. And the tagliatelle was rancid bad, the bolognese was canned plum tomatoes with ground beef tossed in. Your food is garbage that not Italian would ever eat or feed to a dog. Pure garbage! My wife & I stopped at Savona's in Red Hook a couple days ago for lunch. Service was great & food was even better . Prices were not outrageous !!! I Stopped in for lunch with my wife, it was pretty busy but they seated us quickly. The staff was very nice and had drinks for us in minutes. The pesto bread stick were awesome and our meal came out in about 15 mins. My wife got the garlic steak & I got the bistecca which was awesome. I would definitely recommend this place. Food was great, for how busy it was I was impressed with how quickly our food came. Despite the crowd it wasn't so loud that I could carry on a good conversation with my wife. read more

I am glad Max's is gone because it made space for the best italian restaurant in Dutchess County. The only thing that can beat the impeccable service is the exquisite food. All entrees look like a piece of modern art. I got the Penne Vodka; After living in NYC for 5 years and being Italian, Savonas serves the best penne vodka dish I have ever had. Al denté (of course), creamy, not too salty, and not crazy heavy. My fiancé had the flat bread pizza. She loved it and so did I. I would have ordered it if I knew how tasty it was. Perfect balance of veggies/chicken and salty/sweet. Pizza was a little dark, but I think that was done on purpose. Sit outside in the back for a romantic dinner setting and order the calamari as an app. Although the garlic bread is ADDICTING, save some to dip in your remaining entree remnants. Been to the Savona's on the other side of the river and this location did not disappoint. Much larger than the other locations and as a big guy I appreciate the elbow room. Had the price fix lunch eggplant parm. This came with a salad which was extremely fresh and tasted wonderful. The entree was quite large and delicious. The meal came with a breadstick drenched in garlic and olive oil - yummy. For desert which was included I had the cheesecake. The only negative was the weakfish coffee but I would definitely recommend Savona's. read more

About 3 weeks ago, my brother ordered several pizzas here that he picked up and brought home to us. It was your standard all-cheese pizza, nothing special. However, when we had bitten into it, although it was all cold - about 2 miles with no stops in between - the pizza was soggy in oil, and the more pizza we ate, the more oily it got. By the time we reached the crust, it seemed to be just oil. But I'm pretty amazed at what pizza he got for himself. No one else in the home likes Nutella, yet the dessert pizza he also got for himself was smothered in it. (He tried to keep it a secret, but he knew we didn't want him eating it, and I'm unsure of how it was because i don't like Nutella.) read more

As a frequent patron for years, I was saddened ti hear that the hostess Karen was let go. She knew who you were when you called for a reservation and made you feel at home when you walked in the door. The owner received a bad review and let her go. I'm not sure we will come back as often as we use too. It's sad that a review could determine your job status. Maybe the person who wrote the review was having a bad day. I really want to like Savona's but every time I eat the food I come away thinking two things: 1. Whomever makes the food has never been to Italy. 2. They don't understand that moderation is always better. When ingredients overwhelm other ingredients you're left with a sloppy mess. Case in point, the pasta a La Nonna. At this point, it should be well understood that slathering this dish with tomato sauce renders the taste of the eggplant nonexistent. In Italy, crispy eggplant is added at the very end to the pasta with only a hint of tomatoes finished with Parmesan. The lasagna is also quite a mess due to a heavy hand. Same is true for all the other dishes I've tried over several visits taking out and eating there. I wish it weren't the case, but Savona's continues to disappoint. read more

Amazing food - I had the baked eggplant with penne pasta and my GF had the veal version. Good prices on wine, amazing service, but... their bread sticks are DANGEROUS. I bit my tongue due to their extremely oiled surface. They are so lubricated that it slipped out of my mouth as I took a bite, causing a gash in my tongue. It was hard to eat the rest of my meal. I have been here for lunch and dinner. Both of the times I have been here did not disappoint. For lunch I got Fried Calamari and Chicken Marsala. I friend got the Lobster Ravioli which will not fill you up as there is only four raviolis served in this meal. For dinner I got Shrimp Scampi. They tell you on the menu that there's only five shrimps but they are jumbo sized shrimp which was not was I was expecting so that made me happy. They serve you garlic bread with your food. Service both occasions I have no complaints. Definitely a great spot for a nice dinner with friends, date, family, etc. read more

I am so happy my huaband and I finally gave this place a shot. The food here is really outstanding. We've been here to eat on valentine's day and I just ordered from them through doordash. Soo pleasantly surprised both times! The food was amazing, server was attentive and cheerful, the food was flavored really well and all had the perfect amount of salt. I didn't find myself needing any seasoning. The chicken was tender on the waterfront salad both times. ( a must try! It is one of the best salads I have ever had.) The burger with the cherry tomatoes and the pesto mayo was juicy and delicious. My husband and I are both cooks and honestly don't go out often because we can make whatever we want at home the way we want it. But this place is special. Delicious food so far everytime. Probably one of the worst meals I have ever had. Waited over an hour for pick up only to have cold mozzarella sticks and the most disgusting pasta ever. My first time here after hearing great reviews about other locations from friends and family. We went for an early dinner on a Sunday and didn't have trouble parking or securing a table. We ordered the italian charcuterie board for the table and a side of meatballs. For whatever reason we weren't given a serving fork or spoon with either dish which we thought was odd. The olives kept rolling off of the board and the oil from the buratta was dripping onto the table but otherwise it was tasty. The meatballs while large were not super hot, were a bit dry and lacked flavor. Hubby ordered the chicken francese and myself and our friend ordered the mushroom risotto. All dishes were very good - the chicken francese was very lemony and it was a large portion; the risotto was a nice serving, very creamy and had plenty of mushrooms. We had to ask for grated cheese and fresh pepper which again we thought was odd. They had a very nice coffee and dessert selection and we all ordered the chocolate hazelnut coffee and we each had a dessert - all of which were very decadent and delicious. The service was fairly decent and we didn't have to wait long for our server to come back to check on us or to provide drink refills, etc. All in all I thought this restaurant was very good and I will definitely be back. read more

I've been here several times now, as well as to the original location. Really awesome food overall, service is always impeccable. They did a really nice job renovating the old Max's building. Their meatballs are absolutely incredible, pasta is always fresh and luscious. Artichoke dip appetizer is a pass though, too cloyingly rich. I've been here twice with two large parties (holiday and work) and they handle large tables very efficiently (@10-12 people). I live about a half hour away and considering how many incredible restaurants are much closer to me, Savona's is always worth the drive. They get super busy on weekends so definitely call ahead and/or be prepared to wait. The bar gets slammed too so waiting can be extremely uncomfortable. One complaint... The owner was really rude one time. My bf brought his office + SO's out for a rather expensive staff dinner, which included two gentlemen older than my bf, who is visibly younger. Owner thanked the two older gentlemen, probably assuming one of them paid, and completely ignored the youngest man who DID pay. Everything else was GREAT but that was a real turn-off. read more

Great food - Food gets 5 Stars, Lousy take out service they get ZERO Stars... The last four times (In A Row) I ordered take-out, my order was wrong. First time the pasta was wrong, second time tne entree was wrong. Last two times the salad was wrong. I called each time the first three times we ate what we picked the last time I went back out to pick up a new waterside salad. I had to rush to eat half of my entree and give the other half to my wife while I went back out in the rain (after driving back from Albany). I passed three other Restaurants before I reached Savona's (to support my loacl eatablishments). I spoke with Megan, who was very curtious. I asked Megan to have her Manager call me. That was 3 weeks ago. Still no call from them, I guess they don't value me as a patron. So, not only do they lose my take-out business, but they lose my dining in business. read more

Myself and a friend of mine were looking to try somewhere we haven't been before so we came here. Based on the menu (style of food and amount of options) I thought it may be more of a pizzeria style place with some tables (common for this area). We were pleasantly surprised to pull in to see a beautiful restaurant with a wonderful ambiance. Our server was very attentive and friendly and when we ordered the burrata she said "it's so good!" and she did NOT lie! That burrata is probably the best I've ever had. I had the cremini mushroom truffle risotto which was out of this world (and provided two additional meals for me) and my friend had the steak which he loved. Everything was spot on; ambiance, service, drinks, apps, and entrees. Now I CANT WAIT for the Poughkeepsie location to open as thats where I live and I'll be able to frequent this business.
