We tried this restaurant for a birthday dinner, and we were seated near the kitchen. That's usually fine except it was incredibly smoky. They need better ventilation. The food was good. Nothing spectacular, but solid. The service was not great. We ordered drinks from a different person than our waitress a few times. Standard Italian fare. Big portions but nothing special. Recently, I ordered a pear, feta, greens and prosciutto on flatbread item from the menu. I was served a flatbread with pear, feta and greens with slices of WHITE FAT, supposedly the cooks idea of prosciutto! We celebrated our marriage with immediate family by having a small lunch here. It was the fifth or sixth time we've visited the restaurant and by far our most favorite experience. All of the staff were so accommodating and friendly. We moved the reservation headcount and time at least five times and then arrived 30 minutes early, not so much as a grumble from anyone. We brought a cake and special champagne flutes and the staff was so helpful in making it a special time. The apps were fantastic. We had a guest who was allergic to shellfish so we ordered the bruschetta, which is always perfectly seasoned and the always bread crisp. For the rest of use, an order of mussels in a light cream sauce, clams in broth with lovely slivers of garlic and calamari, which is fried to perfection. I had the chicken francese which was lemony bliss. Served over ziti with a perfectly light creamy sauce. Both moms had the salmon and raved that it was cooked perfectly with just the right balance of sauce and spice. My husband had the medium special zuppa pescatore which he said had just the right amount of spice for him. For the picky eaters at the table, two ordered the steak and one had the chicken pepperoni Parmesan. These are folks who just won't eat if they're not happy with the dish. Not a single complaint. The pasta, which to me is a true test of the quality of an Italian restaurant, was cooked just right. Just a smidgen past al dente but nowhere close to soft. If you can't get the pasta right, there's simply no hope for you, and Savona's know how to deliver their pasta. So, yes, we will be frequent patrons and are so thankful to them for making our special day even more special. We could not have asked for more. read more

Had Savona's for the first time the other day, and I've been craving it ever since.... we sat outside, ambiance was BEAUTIFUL. Service 10/10, food 10/10, ambiance 10/10. Value (prices) 10/10. The salads come w home made dressings (excellent) and pesto breadsticks (delicious) didn't get a chance to take a photo of the food because I ate it too quickly . The portions were large , prices very reasonable. We got two entrees, ice tea and coffee the check was only $55 which was so reasonable. The portion was so good that I was able to eat my leftovers for lunch the next day. I had the veal Marsala; im currently sitting at work hungry and can't wait to get out of work and get some takeout of the same exact dish. This is now one of my favorite local restaurants read more

Great place! A true hidden gem in Red Hook. Food was prepared to perfection and the staff was very friendly and quick to cater to us. The outside patio is a great spot dine and have a few drinks. Portions are large and perfect for sharing. They do get rather busy so calling ahead of time and making a reservation is a good idea. read more

Management was rude, when we said our pregnant friend was cold. They sat us outside in 35 temp weather and when we asked to turn up the heater the manager turned down the heater. Waiter was slow also only asking once's or twice if we needed anything. If you don't like tap water I wouldn't go either. Very rarely do we go to a restaurant and are wowed by everything we ate, but we had an amazing dinner at Savona's Trattoria. For apps we had the meatballs (the sauce was outstanding) calamari, bacon wrapped scallops and the clams in white wine and garlic. All were absolutely delicious. The sauce on the clams was pretty much the best I've ever tasted. We actually took a spoon and were savoring every last drop! For mains we had the limoncello salmon, mussels, steak and diver scallops over an excellent risotto. All were expertly prepared and delicious. This restaurant is a real gem, and we feel this due to Chef Edward's talent and attention to detail. When you taste his food, you can really appreciate the passion he brings to each dish. Good local place! I only started going during covid so have only done take-out and have gotten food here about 3 times now. The quality of the food is really nice. The salads are fresh and interesting. The Caesar salad is really good. I know there is not much to a Caesar salad, but the cheese and dressing they use are really on point. The prices are a bit higher than you'll pay at most local pizza restaurants, but the food is well worth it. I'm a huge fan of the Kingston location - so I was really excited that they opened a new spot in Red Hook - and it didn't disappoint. Worth the trip. Sunday Sauce with meatball and sausage rivaled any Italian grandmothers! The balance of flavor and texture was superb - tasty marinara enrobed the bucatini pasta, right amount of seasoning in both the sausage and meatball. Three of us came here for the first time, yesterday. We were greeted warmly by the man at the front desk who showed us the patio seating and inside seating. We chose inside. We had a very sweet, competent waitress. Two ordered the risotto and loved it....it came with a salad and I ordered the chicken Francese which came with penne pasta and it was soooooo good! So was my tiramisu ! If I had anything I would change it would. be that they didn't give much wine in our glasses...not even half way...but what we had was good. Dinner with the family at Savona's a couple weekends ago did not disappoint! We were celebrating Mama as she finished her chemo and radiation, and is cancer free. Very pretty atmosphere and décor, and they were very careful with masks, sanitizer, and social distancing. To start, they brought out hot garlic breadsticks, a crowd pleaser for sure. The Caesar salad - just order it, you'll know why when you do. For appetizers we had mozzarella sticks (umm, yes please), and fried calamari (good, however Dad said the portion was much too small, like a handful, for the price). Mama got lasagna (her go-to at every Italian restaurant) and enjoyed it, Dad got Veal Marsala, brother got a pizza with shrimp, and I got the Pasta with Broccoli Rabe and sausage (omg). Overall, very good food, and the service was on point. They finished the meal with a dessert to share, and I sipped on an Espresso Martini that was perfect. When I saw the lemon rind, I knew it was going to be good. Glad we picked Savona's for such a special celebration. read more

We met a friend here for dinner recently. It was a regular weeknight around 7:30 but the place was totally packed when we arrived and the hostess told us that it would be at least a forty minute wait. We were about to leave when the maitre d' (John?) saw us and did some quick rearranging of seats at the bar to accommodate us. He acted as our de facto waiter for the night and went above and beyond to be outgoing and helpful. Likewise, the bartender was very friendly and personable. Unfortunately, we found all of the food to be rather unexceptional. We were in a pasta mood so each of us ordered a different pasta entree to share between us and the most noteworthy thing was the size of the portions- to say that they were minuscule would be generous. Size-wise, they wouldn't pass as appetizers at any of the Italian restaurants that we frequent here in the city and at over $20 each after a dietary substitution or two, they were easily just as expensive. Between the pastas and a drink for each of us, it was over $100 before the tip and we all left still hungry. The staff was great and the space seemed nice, but nothing about the food made us feel like we'd have to return. Judging by the crowd and online reviews, maybe we just caught them on a mediocre night. The maitre d' told us about weekend jazz brunches that they have so maybe we'll give that a try at some point down the line. read more

I am so dissapointed! The 1 st 2 times the food was so good. They recently were closed again for awhile and when they reopened we ordered again take out. They must have a new cook because the food was awful! The chicken Marsala was like rubber and so over cooked and flavorless. The potato were hard and undercooked and the green beans tasted raw. If we had eaten in the restaurant I would have sent it back. It's not just me. A friend just got an order for the 1st time and told me she would never go back because it was so bad. That is a shame. Went on date night with Mr.Romance. The staff was amazing very attentive and helpful. I order spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce had a burnt flavor and the meatballs were barely warm. Mr.Romance had chicken parm. Sauce was burnt. We order cheesecake that was ok. We will try again only if friends want to go. Or we will go to Kingston. Stop by at Savona's on Sunday night. My wife and I order two salads and pizza to share. A salad was chicken Milanese with fresh arugula. We were surprise by the fact that arigula was not fresh at all, a lots of arugula leaves were yellow. We told the server and she didn't have any explanation. After the salads, we had pizza that was also with fresh arugula (same situation arugula was old with a lot of yellow leaves). I was looking to speak with a manager but I didn't see any. The staff were young college students that were serving or working at the front desk. I didn't notice any adult to supervise them. The arugula was old and I was wondering that might have some WORMS between the leaves. The reason we stop by was the patio which Is nice, but the food is not good. I am wondering if the chef will use yellow arugula leaves to prepare a salad for his/her family. I won't return at this restaurant! read more

POOR service. Portions are VERY small. When questioned, they brought us another appetizer AND CHARGED us for it! Don't order the calamari if you are hungry! OVERCHARGED us for a salad which we substituted out the chicken. CHARGED FOR CHICKEN WHICH WAS REMOVED PLUS THE THREE PIECES OF SHRIMP WHICH REPLACED THE CHICKEN. They charged us $25 for a SALAD! To top it off, the waitress was incapable of even getting our coffee order correct. Umm, coffee with cream is not difficult to get correct! He had the samon and we were both very impressed with the quality of our meals. It was a fantastic celebration for him moving back locally.
