This business forces you into dry-cleaning items prior to any alterations (even if there is no sign of wear). Costs double per item if you are going specifically for alterations. The clerk said that many people have probably touched it and that due to the pandemic they require dry-cleaning for items before any alterations, even if the clothes were bought in-store and directly taken there. I've used them before for dry-cleaning and the experience was fine, but shocked of how for pieces that were bought in-store were rejected or the price spiked for both cleaning and alterations. Plenty of other spots to go in SF. read more

I've been going to Savvy Cleaners since I moved into the neighborhood without any issue. Recently went to a wedding and got a stain on the tie I wore so naturally took it to get cleaned. This was an expensive silk tie so I wanted to leave it to the professionals. Sadly, when I got my tie back, it felt like it was ruined. The stain was gone, but the silk felt like it had been ironed on high (a big no for silk). Clearly the tie was not handled with any care. Will continue to go to them, however, I would caution you against going to them for more delicate pieces. It's a real shame. read more

Sunny really cares about quality and craftsmanship and it shows. I've gotten several dresses hemmed by her, including fancier bridesmaid dresses, and she does a wonderful job. Unlike another wash and fold place I use (bc it's closer to me, cheaper and faster), at Savvy I never have to worry about my laundry loads missing articles of clothing or looking the worse for wear. I get the sense she doesn't overfill her washing machines just to minimize costs. I'll save my nicer shirts and pants for loads at Savvy once a month or so. It is a little more expensive than other places and the turnaround time for wash and fold is a day slower. But it's worth it to know I can trust my stuff with Sunny! read more

On December 16, 2014, I entered Savvy Dry Cleaners with a three-piece and several shirts. There was nobody attending the front counter so I rang the bell a couple times. After waiting for what seemed like hours, a woman finally came up and apologized for the wait. I came back the next Monday, paid $35, and took my clothes home. It wasn't until later that I discovered the atrocities that lie within these plastic wrappers. The suit was fine, but the condition of my shirts was wildly disappointing. Shirt 1 -- All 4 sleeve buttons were shattered by what appears to be extreme temperatures and pressure. Are they trying to create diamonds? Shirt 2 -- A mysterious green stain on the inner collar. I haven't been able to get the stain out and this shirt is essentially ruined. Shirt 3 -- A black ash stain on the left sleeve, which I also have been unable to remove. It's small, but this is just insult to injury. When I pay nearly $40 to have my clothes cleaned, I expect a certain level of competency which was clearly absent from the moment I walked in. They do an okay work with the clothes, but they are NOT honest and I'm done with the scams. They have charged too much in several occasions. I'm going to describe my last interaction with them: I arrive with a dress to clean. The lady behind the counter gives me a receipt that says "long dress". They charge extra for that. I explain that it's not a long dress. It's not even long enough to be a midi: it ends around my knees. She says that the receipt says "long" but she means "lacy". So now she has decided she's charging extra because it's a lacy dress. Another lady comes out to help because the first one doesn't speak much English. So the second lady looks at the receipt and says that my dress is long. I say it's not. She say it is. I say it's definitely not. She says it is. No one mention that the dress has lace anymore. So they won't charge extra for the lace... just for the dress being long. The dress isn't actually long, but hey, why would that matter? Then I give up trying to explain reality, and I give up on coming back ever again. The end. read more

They ruined my sport coats twice now... I don't know why I even bothered coming here the second time. They don't seem to understand that I don't want the lapel curves pressed. They make them so flat. There is suppose to be a curve. Here's how they ruined my first one: It's originally a 3-roll-2 configuration, where the 3rd button is part of the roll but it's NOT suppose to be buttoned. It's pretty obvious when the button is hidden within the roll. But they buttoned the top, and then ironed it flat. So I told them with a different sport coat I had, which is also a 3-roll-2, that the top button is not one to use. They suggested I remove it. Like no?? That's not why I'm here. I told them, just don't press the lapels, leave them. I really just needed the sleeves cleaned. I get my sport coat back and lo and behold the lapels are pressed flat. Now I have to take this sport coat to my tailor too to re-roll it. I was really hoping they'd be great, and being so close to where I live made it so convenient. Maybe I'll continue to take my non-tailored clothing here, but anything tailored I will take somewhere else. read more

Avoid. I brought in a coat to dry clean and a jumpsuit for alteration. The coat was cleaned but a ripped seam was not repaired despite being pointed out. The alteration was cleaned (which I didn't ask for, but thanks) but not altered -- a simple hemming, not even keeping original hems. The turnaround time was 1 week, only to discover the above. The cost was $48+ for those 2 things, one of which didn't happen. When I brought it up, I was "offered" the deal of paying half (again--I'd already paid full) to do it again (or do it at all in the first place). I guess I should have tried it on right there or taken photos before and after, but I default to trusting in the first place. This experience is an example of why people can't trust services at times. Prior to this, I'd brought in longer shirts, or shirtdresses, or tunics, and been charged for the price of dry cleaning long overcoats -- rather than shirt or dress -- even though the material is thin cotton or linen and it would make sense to perhaps charge a little more than a shirt for the extra material. I tried to explain they were not coats but got pushback and I'd just agreed and paid because they are located close by. This is now pushing it too far after all the times I've obligingly agreed to be overcharged even according to their higher than normal rates. PS: while I was in there picking up, the guy in front of me had brought back something to be re-cleaned because it had a moldy smell that wasn't there before cleaning. He was offered the chance to pay again so they could "try" to get it out. Seems like a pattern. read more

This was my first time going to a dry cleaner. I brought in my favorite leather skirt that had a 6 month old gum stain on it. The lady told me it would be $25 and that there were no guarantees for removing the stain, but when I came to pick up my skirt three days later, I was elated to find that there was no trace of the gum stain! I'm glad the lady disclosed that there could be a possibility that they wouldn't be able to remove the stain, so I really lowered my expectations. Now my skirt appears to be brand new! Of course I wait until the last minute to get my blazer dry cleaned... my "used to be favorite but now it's all dusty from my closet and I don't want to wear it but I have no other choice blazer" that I had custom tailored in Turkey 12 years. I hopped on Yelp to see who did same dry dry cleaning and when I saw my friend Suzanne A gave this place her seal of approval I decided to give them a call. On the phone they confirmed they offered same day service and said that a normal jacket costs $8.50 for same day pickup. I don't get stuff dry cleaned very often but this strikes me as a great price especially considering it's a green cleaner. I mean, hellbillies don't exactly go getting their overalls dry cleaned. I dropped my jacket off at 12:00 and picked it up shortly after 6 pm. The tab was exactly how much they said it would be AND my jacket looked so good that I remember why it's my favorite jacket. The shoulders on my jacket were covered in dust (I live in the country in Oregon. It's dusty) and when I picked it up it looked absolutely perfect! Finding a great business on Yelp with good reviews? That's cool. Patronizing the business and finding that they're even better than expected? That's awesome. I am SO glad I brought my jacket here. The good news: The dress is perfect for a fun party I'm going to. The bad news: The party is tonight. The best news: SAVVY Cleaners saves the day! They should be renamed SAVIOR Cleaners! I called them at 4:30 pm on a Friday night and asked (okay, pleaded) to have the zipper fixed same day before they close. Not only did they accommodate my (crazy) request, but they did a flawless job and even called me when the dress was ready. And did I mention that the alterations were complete in half an hour?! This place is great. I had tried and failed with other dry cleaners in the area and am so happy to have finally found one that I like. (It's totally worth a longer walk/bike ride/car ride.) At Savvy, I had clothing hemmed, buttons sewed, and stains removed, and they did a SUPERB job. At least 5 of the garments I had dry cleaned were previously taken to other cleaners who could not get the stains out. I took them to this cleaner and they got rid of it all! I also got a 10% coupon for dry cleaning which was very cool. Savvy is clean, organized, and provides excellent services. Plus, it is green. I don't really have a go-to dry cleaning place and after recently making popcorn in one of my new silk dresses (which I have now learned is a terrible idea), I found this dry cleaning place close to my house and with great reviews, albeit a couple. I took the dress in with low expectations, because getting olive oil out of silk, especially without shrinking it seemed impossible. Even Sun (the owner) seemed reluctant when I brought it in. She charged me $25 but said if she couldn't get the stains out she'd only charge me $15.50. I got back today to pick it up and was expecting the worst, and was prepared to just wear the dress with its stains, however when I got it back they were all gone. I was amazed, and just tried it on to see if it shrank at all. It didn't. It looks just as it did when I first bought it. She even gave me a 10% off coupon to use there (within one month). They're close to home, so I tried them out. I wanted my P-Coat cleaned -- and the dog hair removed (my pup loved my coat too much). They first suggested I pick up next day after 5; but they close at 4 on Saturday. So, we did one day cleaning. At pickup, the coat had just as much hair as drop-off. And the jacket still smelled like puppy. The lady at the counter insisted it had been cleaned. Not very friendly. Not thorough. And hella expensive. Doubtful ill return. read more

I've been to savvy green cleaners multiple times and mostly have had no problems with their laundry or dry cleaning. They weren't always the nicest (once I picked up my laundry and was told that I should have made sure all of my socks weren't inside out before dropping off), but that's fine. However, once I took suit pants there to get them tailored. They measured and then I came back in a few days to pick them up. When I tried them on, I discovered that there was still perhaps an extra inch of fabric (the pants folded over themselves when they hit the shoe). I asked them to re-hem them and the woman told me that she had done it right and that I must've agreed to that length (not the case). After a bit of discussion, she begrudgingly agreed to rehem them as she warned me it'd be my fault if they're now too short. I came back a few days later to pick them up and they now fit. Great! But the woman now informs me that because they had to redo it and it was "my fault" they need to charge me an additional 50% above of the full price. This was problematic because (1) it wasn't my fault and (2) even if it were, you need to tell a customer that you're charging before actually providing the services (not after). They also then went on to tell me that they must charge me extra for same day laundry, something that they'd never done before in my multiple times taking my laundry there. When I pointed out that it seemed like they're "punishing" me because of their own hemming mistake, she kind of just shrugged. Won't be going back. read more

Mr. Suh, the alteration specialist is absolutely amazing. What I liked is that they gave me two options on sleeve shortening for a high fashion jacket that I purchased, one inexpensive, and one quite thorough. I went with the latter, and the jacket fits perfectly (Mr. Suh took in the sides a little too). Pants come out amazing too, both cuffed slacks and plain bottom in the hand of this guy. I have had pants altered before, and been so disappointed with the results. When Jill Sander pants don't break right over heels, they look cheap. The dry cleaning service is impressive. The wash and fold service fells homey and comfortable. I travel across town to use this service because I trust this cleaner with my clothing. But please, don't stop at believing my recommendations, try it for your self. read more

I really like this place! I was going to a little man closer to my apartment (whom I still really like) but something drew me to this new place... it was probably the neon signs! I like them because they are fast, not expensive and I can trust alterations will be completed to perfection. Plus, they are organic and don't use bad chemicals! What more could a girl ask for? Seriously, I brought in my favorite skirt. I had never trusted clothing to be altered before, what can I say... it made me nervous. Had two pairs of pants hemmed and then the straps of overalls shortened. They did a good job - really clean! But oh my gosh they are pricey. For three items it cost me 68. I appreciate how they're open early in the morning so I can go by before work. The location works great for me too as it is just a few blocks from home. I tried this place last week because it's the first (?) organic dry cleaning within walking distance from me. I was impressed by the professionalism, the computerized order entry system, the friendly manner, and the end result. They are a cut above, and I don't think the prices were higher than average either (but I don't dry clean much). The thing that put them over the top is the hand-written thank you note in the mail. Looks like it worked on other people too. All you other businesses take heed: if you want Yelpers to transform into robot PR servants of your indomitable will, a handwritten note goes a long way.
