potrero cleaner alterations is a family run business that has been open for 8+ years. i got 2 silk pieces tailored and both alterations were taken care of with great quality. there may be a bit of a language barrier, but your pieces will be cleaned and altered with lots of care. i paid $25 in total for the two pieces to be tailored since they both had holes. i thought the value was fair for the quality. i highly recommend potrero cleaner alterations and will trust them with my future needs. read more

Made the mistake of taking nice, natural fiber Italian garments to get dry cleaned here. The clothes looked abused, the shirt lost navy pigment and was stretched, the pants were pressed the living ** out of, and yet, they still made a sloppy seam - the old seam still remained. 2 starts instead of 1 star bc I've had good experiences in the past with dry cleaning and one alteration. He's always been friendly in the past which is why this incident was so perplexing. Took a jumpsuit in to be hemmed ~3 inches. When I tried it on afterwards, I noticed that the length of one leg was different than the other. I brought it back and was treated rudely from the get-go. The main guy who works there gaslighted me for the first 5 min of our interaction, telling me that the legs were the "same same" over and over. Eventually, the woman who works there (maybe his wife?) admitted that she did see the difference. We argued for another 10 min with him continuing to not acknowledge the difference. I even had the man who was waiting to get pants hemmed weigh-in and he immediately agreed and said he noticed a difference as well. The main guy was incredibly rude during this entire interchange, refusing to acknowledge the length differences for the entire 15 min despite two others pointing out the difference. He refused to fix the leg lengths so eventually I left. I will definitely be finding a different place for future alterations and dry cleaning. read more

I was hoping to have a new place I could take repairs to, right by my work. My coworker said she takes things here all the time and they are "so cheap and fast" so I took a pair of slacks here to get a center back zipper replaced (no fly or placket). They said it would be $50! More than twice what they charged other people I know. read more

I come here for both dry cleaning and tailoring, as I live nearby. The prices for dry cleaning are a bit higher than the dry cleaner I go to by my office; however, Potrero Cleaner does a much better job. They've removed old stains from silk blouses that the other dry cleaner couldn't and their attention to detail is superior. Anytime I spill something on one of my dry clean only items (which is pretty often), I take it here and get it back in pristine condition. I've also had fairly basic tailoring done here and everything has turned out great -- jeans and pants hemmed (original hem for the jeans), trousers taken in at the waist, the sleeves of a blazer shortened, and a tear mended in a silk dress. The prices seem fairly reasonable. There are less expense options but this place is so convenient (proximity and ample parking). Plus, everyone who works here is friendly and I'm always greeted with a smile. read more

Negative stars - lost my suit and could not have been more rude. While waiting, a man asked if he could be measured for. Suit and offered to pay. Again, refused and could not have been more rude. Now I am out a suit, and they have no intention of paying for it. Avoid at all costs. It is also clear they launder off site, so the odds of losing items are high. They lost a dress shirt of mine that was sent for dry cleaning (it said 12 items were received in the receipt, but they only had 11 items when I went to pick up), and when I asked for a refund, the owner told me to sue him because he has done nothing wrong. I would not go here ever again and don't recommend it. read more

Excellent services and affordable! I had a pair of slacks and a bridesmaid's dress that needed significant alterations and both came out perfectly. My husband had a suit altered here too, and it all came out cheaper and faster than using Nordstrom's alterations services. I used to go to the cleaners a block a way from my home, but I'm willing to hop in the car and drive a few minutes to go to this place. It's a little more inconvenient for me to do so but I'm just so impressed with the services and value that I'm willing to make the trip. read more

I had some pants tailored here and it was great. They did a very good job and were super quick.

I needed a sequined dress altered for New Year's and came to Potrero Cleaner Alternations in hopes they could adjust the neckline of the dress. I was pretty nervous because the dress is really fragile, but the tailor did a fantastic job! He/she adjusted the neckline to the perfect length that I needed and there were no damages to the dress. I had been to other places where they damaged my shirts and blouses, so this is something I always check for. The man at the front was very friendly and the turnaround time was 2 days. It definitely met my expectations. The cost is a little pricey at $25, but I'd be willing to pay that much for a guaranteed good job, especially to tailor a dress for an important event. read more

I'm not someone who typically takes the time to leave a review, but after going to Potrero Cleaner Alterations, I felt compelled to take a moment to appreciate and recognize the outstanding service I've been provided. It was my first visit and they were very friendly and willing to help with everything I brought in. I've had clothes laundered, dry cleaned and altered before I moved to SF, but I have never experienced such warm and helpful service. They truly took the time to assess my needs in fixing a broken zipper on my leather jacket. The pricing and results of the fix were amazing! Not to mention... I picked up the 6 items I had dry cleaned and they looked brand new! I am so grateful to have such a wonderful dry cleaning and alterations location so close to home. I went there to alter 4 pairs of surgical scrubs (pants) The gentleman told me no problem or worries about the job. I returned in5 days and the charge was $100.00. The price was so outrageous I was shocked. I tried to get it for less and I told the man this was way too expensive and I wouldn't ever return or recommend his service. The owner destroyed my shirt. It ended up in the trash can in the store. After losing some weight, I visited Potrero Cleaner Alterations to have the size of my button-up shirt reduced, along with some jeans. The jeans came out reasonably well, but the shirt was too small by several inches. It wasn't even close.. the buttons barely reached the button holes. He had me come back the next day so he could release some fabric to make it a bit larger, but even with everything released, the torso was still stretched taut while the sleeves were up baggy. He destroyed a $200 shirt that I've worn maybe twice. * The owner and his wife are very nice people. Unfortunately this is the only positive thing I can say about the place. * The owner's english skills are not good. It's difficult to communicate things like, "this is too tight in the torso", or "don't make it too tight." * You may be waiting 15-20 minutes for the owner to finish up with someone else just to pick up your order. * The owner does not understand how clothing is supposed to fit on a person. He expects you to tell him what exactly you want changed. The entire point of using a professional, is for them to use their expertise to help guide your ask. * Alteration prices are pretty steep at $45 per garment read more
