(3.5 stars) Tried Thai Arroy while I was in town for a couple of days. Thai food is perfect beach food to me, especially on a cool evening. The coconut soup was delicious. It was warm, comforting, and I Liked the big pieces of tofu and mushrooms. I'm still not entirely sure what the dumplings were...they were an odd texture to me, kind of gooey and soft, but the outside had a slight crunch to it. I can't even really describe the taste, either. I didn't taste the chives, though I saw plenty of them. The sauce was a savory flavor I'd never had before and I didn't particularly like it. I don't feel like it enhanced the dumpling. Maybe it'd be better with another sauce? The fried rice was typical thai fried rice. Steaming hot, veggies still have a crisp, flavored well. No surprises here. Ordering online was simple, pickup was easy and fast, and the place looked nice and clean inside (though I didn't stay to eat it there). I wanted a light lunch and came in for some Tom Yum soup and a Larb Gai salad. The staff was very appreciative to have us there. Though they weren't busy while we were there, it's clearly popular based on the very nice reviews. Their menu has all the popular, typical Thai fare and several soups to choose from as well. Their Tom Yum was pretty good! Nice, robust flavor and fresh ingredients. Their larb gai was amazing! They serve it 'lettuce wrap' style, with all the ingredient pre-assembled in little Romain boats which were very easy to pick up and eat and they weren't messy. I went to Thai Aroy with a friend during Restaurant Week, where they were offering a three-course meal for either $25 or $35. I chose the $25 option, which included an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. For the appetizer, I picked the shrimp rolls and crab rangoons. You get two shrimp rolls and four crab rangoons with a side of sauce. It was a really solid starter--perfect to hold you over until the main dish. I also loved that it was a duo, so you didn't have to choose between the two. That was definitely a plus. For my entrée, I ordered the shrimp pad thai, and this was actually my first time ever trying pad thai. I wanted to try something different, and I'm so glad I did because it was really, really good. I would honestly go back just for this dish alone. The shrimp was cooked well, the noodles had the perfect amount of flavor, and the portion size was very satisfying. No complaints at all. For dessert, you can choose between coconut ice cream or fried bananas. My friend got the coconut ice cream, and I got the fried bananas, and we ended up splitting both. Together? Delicious. They do offer them together as part of the $35 option, but since we both did the $25, we just shared--and it worked out perfectly. The customer service was also great. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. They kept our table clean, cleared plates quickly after each course, and checked on us throughout the meal. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, professional, and happy to give recommendations. Overall, I would definitely go back to try more of their food. We've been here a few times now in the past year and agree the food is pretty good here and we keep coming back even though we live like 25 mins away. This restaurant is located in a pretty unassuming area, right next to a laundromat. Don't let the no frills decor and exterior fool you, this place will deliver! I've gotten the Thai sausage and the pork sa wan (fried pork belly) on a couple of occasions and highly recommend both. The food is delicious and packed with flavor. The service here is super friendly and the staff loves seeing the little guy enjoy the food here too. It's never really too busy when we come but we also get dinner around 5.30 or so. The owner was very warm and welcoming. My family and I came to Thai Arroy for dinner and we ordered several dishes to share family-style. Here are the dishes we ordered: * Papaya Salad - Crisp, sour, sweet, salty, crunchy and fresh. This was a perfect appetizer and side to pair with our dishes. * Crab Fried Rice - This was a crowd favorite with generous lumps of real crab meat. Squeeze some lime juice for a brighter flavor! * Chicken Tom Yum (Hot Pot Lemongrass Soup) - Probably one of the best Tom Yum I've had and much better than the ones I've had in California. This flavorful soup had a generous helping of chicken and veggies and came out piping hot! * Pad Woon Sen (Baked bean Thread Noodle) - This was a smaller portion. There is a strong ginger flavor, which I haven't tasted at other Thai places. It's not bad, it was just unexpected. I prefer the Pad Woon Sen from President Thai in SoCal. * Chicken Wings - Flavorful and garlicky. * Thai E Sarn Sausage - Wow! I loved the bold flavor of this sausage. This was a hit with our table. * Thai Pork Belly - Really good pork belly. It had a good balance of crunchy skin and tender meat, with just enough fat to give great flavor. It came with sauce and a cup of rice. * Roasted Garlic Whole Fish - The best dish of the night! We ordered the XL size and it was so worth every penny. First off, the presentation was unlike anything I've seen. They used the skeletal bones (the vertebrae) along with the head to be used as a platter to hold up the tender and crispy pieces of fish. It was garnished with fragrant cilantro and crunchy cucumber. The lime sauce over the fried fish was delicious! Loved how light the batter was because you can still taste fish. I would order this again! * Mango and Sticky Rice - A perfect way to end our dinner. We ordered a couple of these to share between our table. So so good! Our family enjoyed one of our last nights in VA at Thai Arroy, which translates to "Delicious Thai [Food]" and, indeed, it was arroy mak mak (very, very delicious). Tonight my husband suggested Thai so we came over for dinner to give it a try finally. We were seated immediately once a table was cleared and ordered Crab Rangoons and Thai dumplings with a Thai tea and hot green tea. I ordered the Red Curry with shrimp and sticky rice. Phenomenal. Soooo good. Omg. Slightly spicy but legit sticky rice and so much veggies and flavor. A lot of shrimp in the dish and great size as well. This had zuchinni, red bell pepper, peas, green beans, carrots and baby corn in the mix. Noms! My husband got the Mr. Greens with broccoli, green beans and another green veggie I can't remember with beef as his protein and it was in a very light sauce with brown rice. Cute little Thai restaurant located in a tiny strip mall! We found it while searching on google for Thai spots near our hotel on the boardwalk. Make sure you don't try going on Tuesdays! That's the only day they're closed. We ended up going on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch and the place was pretty much empty except maybe one or two other customers. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We got their crab Rangoon, vegetable pad Thai, Penang curry and Thai tea! My husband is a huge fan of crab Rangoon so he thoroughly enjoyed those. I wish they were a bit bigger though. The vegetable pad Thai was good, the fish sauce wasn't too strong, which I like! The only downside was the curry, I'm used to a thicker sauce and theirs was very thin and runny. There was barely any curry for it being a curry dish, we had to ask for more but they weren't able to make more at that point. Maybe ask for extra curry when you're ordering if you actually want curry in your dish! Other than that everything else tasted great! A bit pricey for the meal but they are located in a tourist area so that's probably why their prices are high. I personally probably would not come back, I would try other Thai locations in the area. My wife and I lived in Virginia Beach for years, and this location was easily one of our favorite spots. The owners are so caring and kind, and always took great care of us and even remembered our names. A true hidden gem in Virginia Beach! Thai Arroy is a tiny, unassuming little restaurant next to a couple of laundromats. Inside, it is clean, cozy, quiet, and peacefully bustling with patrons. (A good, moderate amount of people, but by no means crowded or hard to get a table). The menu is full of amazing Thai options, including some variations that I've never seen before like Southern Pad Thai (more curry based) and Ginger Pad Thai. We ordered crispy rolls, dumplings, classic pad Thai, pad see ew, and pineapple fried rice. It was all so so delicious, flavorful, and we couldn't stop eating. The dishes came out piping hot and the portion sizes were generous. On top of that, the service was top notch. Everyone was so attentive and polite. Thai Arroy is located on N. Birdneck Rd. It is just south of the intersection with Virginia Beach Blvd. (Route 58). There is a Liberty Tax Service and a laundry place in that same strip, so hopefully this helps you find it easier. If heading north on N Birdneck Rd., it will be located on the right side of the road. My visit here was on January 21, 2023. I've heard of Thai Arroy and have passed the place several times over the years, but never made it into this place until now. What brought me in to try them? 2023 Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. I always try to visit places during this event that I haven't visited before or don't visit too often. You can see the green signage for this place, so that was a help in ultimately finding the right spot to turn into the place. There was ample parking in the front when I was there, but in busier times, they do have additional parking in the back of the place. When you first come in, it definitely looks to have a Thai theme to it. There is also a bar area to the left when entering as well. We did wait a few moments for someone to come up to be seated, but I do think it's due to low staffing that many of these types of places are having at this time. With the decorations and such inside, it definitely Thai's this place together well. After getting seated, a few moments later a server came to the table to ask what we wanted to drink. Both my mom and I did ginger ale. After bringing the drinks, she asked if we were ready, but we weren't quite ready yet since the Restaurant Week Menu did have a good amount of options. When she came back, she told us a different server would be taking care of us as her work day was done. The new server came over quickly and asked us if we had any questions, which we did not and we were ready to order at that point too. With the restaurant week menu, it is a fixed cost menu including an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. For the appetizer, I originally said I was going to do the Crispy Rolls. I have a mushroom allergy, and she said that mushrooms are in that, so I did the Crab Rangoon instead as the appetizer. For the entrée, I went with the Sautee Basil with Shrimp and for dessert I went with the Coconut Ice Cream. For the three course dinner, my mom went with the Vegetable Rolls for the appetizer, Pad Thai with Shrimp for the entrée, and a Fried Banana for dessert. A few minutes after ordering, our appetizers came to the table. They were both hot, so we did wait a few moments to try them out. The Crab Rangoon were really good. I liked that they weren't hard either when eating them and the sauce that came with them complemented the appetizer well. They had good flavor too. My mom enjoyed the vegetable rolls that she got for her appetizer. Shortly after we finished the appetizers, our entrées came to the table. Just like the appetizers, the food looked really good, but it was definitely hot, so we had to wait a few moments to dig in. Once we did, it was really good. The Sautee Basil with shrimp was really good. I loved the flavors in it and the kick that it gave too. The kick wasn't spicy hot, but was just right for me. The portion size is bigger than what the photos show. My mom liked the Pad Thai with Shrimp too. The Pad Thai is with noodles. Both entrées were really good. The final course of the meal was dessert. Shortly after finishing our entrées, our server came over with the desserts that we ordered in the beginning. The Coconut Ice Cream looked really good. It didn't take long for me to start on it. It was delicious. You could definitely taste the coconut in there. My mom liked the fried bananas too, but it was a little hard for her. Overall, this was a very good visit. I haven't had any Thai food in several years. The food and service were good. I am glad that I decided to try this place during Restaurant Week. They were able to Thai everything together nicely when it comes to the décor and food. Service doesn't get much better than this. Lots of restaurants could take a tip from this place who had TWO workers (only one server and one chef) on a busy Monday with at least 10 tables. Husband and our friend both got the lunch special which was choice of appetizer and a lunch entree. Their curry was wonderful. I had See Eaw with beef and the beef was SO tender. Let me start off by saying craving satisfied! Everything came out piping hot! Papaya salad was sweet sour & spicy! Beef salad was juicy and savory. The sticky rice came out steaming and fluffy. It's been two years since I first got the pumpkin curry here. Myself and my previous coworkers still rave about the meal I described in my last review. This week begins my menu check to see if it is back in season... soon... I hope. In the meantime this is still my go-to thai spot near my house. They deliver via DoorDash, but the prices of each item are cheaper if you just order through the restaurant and pick it up. They have a dedicated spot right by the front door so you can get in and out quickly. My order today was the yellow curry with chicken and the drunken noodles with beef. Both were new dishes for me and I'll totally admit I got both just in case I didn't like one of them. Thankfully, they were both excellent. I placed my order online at 12:42 and it was already packed up and ready when I got to the store at 1pm. This is 10min earlier than the website suggested it would be ready. Drunken noodles don't always make the best to go food since when the dish cools you often end up with one big noodle clump. I was glad that I arrived early so everything was still hot & fresh when I made it back to my house. Both dishes were excellent and I look forward to enjoying my leftovers for dinner, and probably lunch tomorrow too. (Hopefully I can stretch them for dinner too if I make extra rice for the curry- a girl can dream). I really like that I can customize the spice level when ordering online. I was greeted quickly when I walked in to pick up my order. The staff were wearing branded masks, and they installed plexiglass in the area where I paid to protect their staff and guests - nice! Fingers crossed my favorite seasonal dish makes its return and it is as good as I remember it. I've been hearing good things from this restaurant so we decided to give it a try one Friday night when we are in the area and are trying to find a restaurant that is open for dining. By looking at my friends' pictures, the ambiance of this restaurant seems bright and pretty. However when we got in, I noticed that restaurant is a little bit outdated. Some of the benches need to be upholstered. I did like the music area and the fish aquarium though. I pretty much stared at the fishes during our entire meal. We ordered the Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai and Beef Pad Thai (medium spicy). We were supposed to order the crab fried rice, but when we looked at the price, we were shocked that it was around $25. Speaking of prices, I noticed that it was about 2x more compared to the other Thai restaurants. I would think that it was because they are close to Oceanfront. The serving was not huge as well, so I am not sure why it is more expensive. When our food came, the first thing I noticed was that instead of giving me the beef Pad Thai, they gave me chicken Pad Thai. Our server was very nice and polite. I plan to give this review a 2 stars, but I was really impressed with our server's customer service that I decided to give them 3 stars. She fixed my food right away. She also charged me the price for the chicken Pad Thai instead of beef to fix the kitchen's mistake, which I thought was really nice of her, even though we are prepared to pay for the beef's price. Since they had to redo my beef Pad Thai, my food was served wet compared to my SO's chicken and shrimp Pad Thai. It looked like it was rushed. My food was bland compared to his. To be honest, I would rather wait a little bit longer for a better tasting food than have my food rushed and taste bland. It wasn't spicy to so I had to ask our server for some spices to make my food spicy. I really wanted to give this place a better rating, but all I've enjoyed was their service and the fish aquarium. The owner is super friendly and welcoming and takes great pride in his work and makes sure everything is up to his standard. It's hidden in a corner off of Laskin Rd and parking can be tricky if it's busy. Extra parking is available in the back though. The interior has ample seating and decorated nicely. We just made it to happy hour and they have great deals on drinks and appetizers that starts at $1 a piece. We ordered some crab rangoons,Thai dumplings, Dry Curry with beef, and the tasty Thai Tea. The crab rangoons were delicious as it has a unique taste compared to other places. The Thai dumplings were scrumptious with the savory dipping sauce and it was a hit. The Dry Curry has a pretty good heat to it but beware, it has bamboo shoots which can steer people away. However, the creamy coconut sauce with the spice made it a solid dish! What I also like about their menu is that they have spice levels for full disclosure as Thai cuisine can be extremely spicy if that's your preference. I would try their Jungle Stew which is the highest spice rated dish next time to see if it really is that hot :)). Thai Arroy opened in 2010 and quickly became regarded as one of the best and most authentic Thai restaurants in the area. This is their second location with their first one giving birth in Baltimore. Their menu is an ambitious one, featuring dishes I have never seen elsewhere in any of our other local Thai restaurants. The owner reportedly catches some of the fish himself for their seafood specials. The restaurant was easy to find. As I turned onto North Birdneck Road from Laskin Road, its green awning caught my eye instantly. The restaurant is larger on the inside than it appears from the outside. There are only a handful of parking spaces in front with a larger parking area in the back. There is a rear entrance as well. The interior includes a bar area and plenty of seating. My favorite seat is in the booth closest to their fish aquarium, which is soothing to my eyes. Their lunch special menu was discontinued last year and was replaced with a single pricing menu for both their lunch and dinner hours. They are also now charging $1.50 for steamed rice. I have tried the following dishes to date during three lunch time visits: TOFU TOD: Crispy Fried Tofu served with Sweet Chili Sauce and Ground Peanuts. This is a traditional Thai appetizer with the tofu pieces typically cut up into triangular bite sized wedges. The ones served here were presented in large rectangular brick like shapes, They were overcooked to a tough and dry texture, and the chili sauce was of little help. It was a struggle to get through them. My Rating: 2 Stars. GRILLED BEEF SALAD (NUM TOK): Medium-Rare Beef, seasoned with Lime Juice, Ground Chili Peppers, Onions, Mint, and Thai Spices. This dish hails from the Issan region in northern Thailand. The description failed to mention toasted rice powder, an essential ingredient for an authentic version that gives this dish its distinctive crunch and helps bind the other ingredients together. I was unable to detect it. The beef slices were not cooked medium-rare as described and displayed no traces of pink. Otherwise, they were tender with some of their juices still intact. The flavors from the other ingredients came through nicely. The biggest rush of flavor came at the very end when I slurped down the puddle of juices left in my plate. My Rating: 3.5 Stars. JUNGLE STEW (GANG PAR): Cooked in Chili Paste with Chicken, Rhizome, Fresh Basil, Peppercorn, Eggplant, Mushroom, String Bean, Carrot, and Baby Corn. This is the only local Thai restaurant where I have found this dish. It is listed as the hottest dish on their menu with the words: "Caution, this dish is very spicy. PRO only." My hot tooth enjoyed the heat. This is a water based curry dish with no coconut milk added and one that originated from the mountain city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Its name was derived from its appearance, which is said to resemble "a whole jungle in a bowl" with its abundance of plants and vegetables. I liked the presentation of the young peppercorns served on their stem. On the downside, the carrots strongly overpowered the flavors of the other ingredients. I was tasting carrots in my mouth all the way home. My Rating: 3.5 Stars. CHIANG RAI BEEF SOUP: Rice Noodles with Flank Steak in a traditional Herb and Beef Broth served with Bean Sprouts and topped with Roasted Garlic, Cilantro and Scallion. This soup reminded me very much of Vietnamese Beef Pho, but without its richness and complexity. The broth gave me a powdery aftertaste. The flank steak was cut up into small pieces and presented a pallid appearance. Yet, the soup still managed to hit the spot on a chilly day. My Rating: 3.5 Stars. DRUNKEN NOODLES (KEE MAO): Flat Rice Noodles sauteed with Chicken, Fresh Chili, Collard Greens, Tomatoes, Egg, Onions, Bell Peppers, and Fresh Basil. This is the best dish I've had here to date. The Collard Greens worked nicely, and I enjoyed their leafy green color, flavor, and texture. The extra wide noodles were tasty and toothsome. One mishap was a large and squishy chunk of tomato that gave me a squirt where it wasn't wanted. Otherwise, I enjoyed the dish and took some home for a second meal. My Rating: 4.5 Stars. MANGO & STICKY RICE: Their version was delicious overall, but just a tad too sweet for my tastes. I had to let the rice cool off a bit before I could eat it. My Rating: 4 Stars. Service was excellent with each visit. When I crunched the food numbers, they were not enough to round up to a 4-star rating. A 3.5 star rating would have hit the mark but was not an option. I had to round down. A future update is being planned. I want to try their Khao Soi and Trigger Fish Fried Rice when they become available again, as well as one of their fresh catch seafood specials. My rating is based only upon three solo visits and a very small sample of their offerings. Here's hoping my future update will result in a higher rating. read more

Good atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Conveniently located within 10 minutes of our hotel. We played it safe and ordered the basics plus a few drinks. Downside was that the pad Thai was a bit mushy (overcooked) for our taste, and the curry was not spicy, very light on coconut milk. One of the chicken dishes we ordered was also undercooked (red). We realize that that was not the intent, but when we brought it to our waiter's attention, she did not acknowledge it as an issue. No remediation. Net-net: Our experience was disappointing. My asian palate demands that I find an asian restaurant within 2 days of any vacation. Thai is generally a safe bet in cities outside of LA/NYC. However, Thai Arroy was a disappointment as far as flavor went. Very lackluster tom yum soup and eggplant curry - both also pricier than I'd expect for their portion size. I appreciated the booth seating which made it easy to catch up with a friend with relative privacy. read more

Thai guy here. This place is good to go. First of all, such a cute place and wonderfully ornamented with all things Thai. I love it. Such nice people, too. Two things here are REALLY good. One of them being something very unique that I have not seen at other Thai Restaurants in the area: Thai sausage. Brings me back to my childhood. It's very tasty, and if I could, I would order it by the pound. Also, the Pad Kee Mao here is exceptional. It will be hard not to order this dish every time I go back. Papaya Salad. I don't blame this place. I don't think I'll ever have really good Som Tum. Americans just can't handle all the flavors and spice of real Som Tum so what I get is bland papaya salad for the local flavor palettes. I'll ask them next time if they can make it Thai style.
