Our wait was reasonable for a Sunday morning. Our service was excellent! I ordered the breakfast burger and was very pleased with the taste combo. I also ordered a side of grits. You certainly can't find those up North. I sweeten them with honey and enjoy. My husband ordered a Redneck Chimichanga. He loved his breakfast and he even added hot sauce. This is a busy place. This is my first visit but my friends come once a week. There is always a wait. Not sure how the seating works but I could have sworn two to three couples went before us yet they arrived after us. My friend said they could have had a reservation. So don't be surprised when you see people go ahead of you. We were seat in the back area and had a very friendly, smiley young lady. She was pure joy and did a good job waiting on us. There was also a young man I think who was a busboy/helper. He was sweet too. I ordered Biscuit and gravy, $5.99. They were good and that is all I can say. I have better. My girlfriend had pancakes and bacon. I tried the pancakes and they were good. My friends husband had the Lumber Jack Special $10.99. He loved it. The food was good, nothing special, just good. This is classic country dining, with a sort-of-beachy-place vibe! It reminded me of the Kate's Pancake House in Carolina Beach. It's great, simple food at a GREAT price and the wait staff was "so so nice y'all" (with a very country accent)!! I love simple breakfast food - haven't had lunch here YET but I will soon, sandwiches look great & I bet they have a GREAT country dinner menu too. We called in a to-go order and were told it would be ready in 30 minutes. When we picked up the order, I noticed it looked like it was missing several items so I checked our bags. Indeed there were 2 of the 5 ordered entire meals missing. The staff went to the kitchen and returned to tell us that the kitchen "messed up" and they would have the remaining order ready in about 20 minutes. After a 30 minute wait we were able to take home cold food and then found out the rest of the order either missing sides or incorrect sides. Cold food is not appetizing at all. We have eaten in once before and it was okay but we were very disappointed with this visit. With the amount we spent on this order, there are much better options out there. read more

Stopped to have lunch with a friend and was not completely taken by this place. It's a really cute local restaurant that offers anything you can think of from sandwiches to seafood and bbq . It's always a busy spot and lots of locals come for the food. The staff was a little short handed but with covid and people not wanting to go back to work yet it's kinda expected. The manager was so sweet and tried her best which was more than anyone could ask for.. the fresh hush puppies were so good I could have really just eaten those lol. I sent the fam to get ice cream at Boombalatti's while I waited for the food. 10 minutes later, our server brings the bags over (the *only* time we saw her after ordering) and info to pay at the register. The (very nice!) lady said "sorry it's been like this all day," which seems like something that should be addressed in the kitchen OR they could let customers know ahead of time? I understand being short-staffed and in the weeds, but dang. Paying $60 for soggy waffles, tasteless chicken, and a grey burger... we won't be back. Having a name that rhymes only checks 2 boxes for me. This has to be my second favorite way to eat white gravy slathered over tan biscuits. I ordered the sawmill benedict, which comes with with gravy instead of hollandaise, and an unconventional twist always gets me going. The poached eggs reminded me of myself in that they were both called a perfect medium. The highlight for the table was the potatoes. Went here for a family breakfast. There were 8 of us seated right away. Our drink orders were taken promptly. Our server took our breakfast orders while answering any questions my parents had. Didn't expect that. We could definitely see and taste the difference. Very good. The biscuits and gravy my wife ordered was good. Our server did a great job ensuring our drinks were continuously topped off and engaged in small talk on occasion. Very good server. Overall a good breakfast experience for everyone. My family and I would like to thank the staff and owner of Sawmill Restaurant in Hampstead, NC. Friday the 20th at around 3:30 pm, we were out in 2 separate vehicles traveling from Sneads Ferry to Hampstead with my 2 sisters, my 2 grandchildren, my son, and our fur-child, Tucker. I'm unsure of the name of the server but she was outstanding with her curb-side service. We each ordered plates and drinks and she went out of her way to make it convenient to all of us. My son served as our coordinator going in to place our orders. When we asked if we'd be able to have our tea refilled, she presented a full gallon of tea for us to share. With all that's going on, it's so comforting to find those people that just put their all into what they do. My family had breakfast here this morning and it was horrible! It started out fine when a polite, pleasant young man took our drink order and promptly served them. It went downhill from there. It took almost 15 mins. for our waitress Leah M to come to the table. (She was busy hanging out at the counter talking to customers.) It took another 15 to 20 mins. to get our food. Leah never came by our table to give us more coffee. I had to take my mug up to the counter for a refill. The food was cold and one order was wrong. My daughter ordered eggs Benedict and got biscuits and gravy. When she asked for what she ordered she was told there would be an additional $5 charge.She decided to just forget it. I ordered french toast which arrived 10 mins after everyone else got served. We never saw Leah again until she handed me the check. Fortunately, the other waitresses took over and checked on us.
