After me and my buddy Glenn did some sight seeing at Holy Hill we stopped at The Sawmill on our way back to I-43. What a special place. It seemed like a very popular place due to it being so busy. It was a lazy Saturday morning and I was in the mood to go out for brunch with my kids. Of the options nearby that I either hadn't been to before or hadn't been to in a long time, Sawmill Inn was the most appealing given its proximity to Germantown. I got the Head Sawyer (steak, eggs, and hash browns) with the double tenderloin option, one kid got chicken strips with fries, and the other got a kids pizza. We also shared a piece of coffee cake. I don't think my youngest was super enthused by his pizza, mostly because it's not memorable to him. My oldest liked his chicken strips and fries, but I don't know if he's come across chicken strips and fries that he doesn't like, so take that with a grain of salt. The hash browns were ok. They were just fried potato with no other flavor or add-in like onions. I added salt and pepper because they needed it. I got American cheese on the scrambled eggs and they were as you'd expect. The tenderloin was fine. Obviously not as good of a cut as New York strip or ribeye would have been. I ended up sharing a portion of it with my oldest and he ate it without complaints too. The star of our visit was the coffee cake. It was warm and soft and in every sense perfect. Sharing is carrying and I'm fine sharing with my kids most of the time, but man, I wish it had been all for me. read more

Came here for brunch and the service was fast and friendly. We were seated right away on a Monday morning. Their water is really good. I got an omelette with sourdough and fries. It was so good! The omelet didn't have as many toppings as I've usually gotten in omelets but it was really good. The atmosphere is very cute and cozy, like an inn almost. My wife Amy and I have been coming here pretty much every month for breakfast ever since we first discovered the Sawmill a few years ago. It's a very quaint place with an "up north cabin feel". The service is always great no matter how busy they get (which can be very busy on weekends). For me, they have the best hearty breakfasts for anywhere in the area and they serve the best local coffee (Valentine Coffee Roasters). The owner George is always friendly to chat with when he's there and the staff is top notch with being attentive and friendly. Meet family for a long lunch conversation. Made reservations just in case and glad I did. Saturday 11:30 and the pass was packed. Waited 3-5 minutes to be seated. Hostess was very polite and acknowledged my reservation with just my name and knew the reset point and type of seating requested. Waitress was very pleasant and the order came out quickly. Menu was excellent I chose the perch dinner and was able to double the perch count. 4 large 8" breaded perch filets. The others were very happy with their selections. Total bill was $95 mine was 30% of the bill so pricing was reasonable. Atmosphere was good and it was easy to talk. The full house did not drown out our conversation. We've eaten here a couple times now and both have been really pleasant experiences. The food is good with lots of choices, and the service is always top notch. I really enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant as well. The little cup of beans you get with your meal is a nice tasty little addition, and I strongly STRONGLY recommend you get a side of ranch for their super tasty fries, because that ranch really hits in the best of ways. If it weren't so far from our home, we'd probably come here several times a month. Maybe we'll come up with more excuses to head up that way so we can stop by more often! read more

I love the variety within the menu the sawmill has. My grandparents love coming here for the home-style eats and food that you can rely on being tasty. My personal favorite are the corkscrew shrimp tacos! The Sawmill has reasonable portion sizes and reasonable prices. I always try to visit this place when I come home to visit family. The waitstaff is always so happy and ensure that we customers are taken care of whether it be adding another side or that the all day breakfast is up to par at dinner time. I love the log cabin decor with the saws and the addition of the jar glasses. I have never had an unpleasant experience here and I HIGHLY recommend folks visit if they haven't already. read more

Emma was a wonderful waitress. She was very attentive and kind. I ordered the chipotle salmon with rice pilaf and snap peas. The dinner was very good. My husband ordered a beer bartered cod and said it was very tasty and not too much breading. My white Zinfandel was delish and the old fashioned was also very well made. Service was good however the food should stand on its own and it didn't. We ordered the Friday fish fry and the poor mad lobster. Neither of the orders were hot, warm at best. The potato pan cakes were cold not even warm and tasted as if they were boiled instead of fried. The fish was mediocre at best but only warm not hot. The coleslaw was ok but it was room temperature not cold...go figure! The poor man's lobster was again only warm and tasteless. We met friends here for lunch today, as it was a halfway point. None of us had eaten here prior, but I made a reservation. When we arrived, we had to wait a bit for a table despite having reservations. We all had the fish fry, and while the fish was good and had a nice, crisp exterior, the container of tartar sauce was minuscule. The coleslaw had a good flavor but the ingredients were so finely chopped that it had a mushy texture, not the crisp and crunchy slaw we'd expect. Two of us had German potato salad, which definitely needed more dressing as it was just rather dry and clumpy; our friends had potato pancakes that they said were very mushy inside. The service was slow, no one came back to check on us till we were nearly finished - would dearly have loved more tartar and extra napkins all around; the wooden bench seats in the booths were very uncomfortable, and the music was overly loud and made conversation amongst us difficult. As most diners were seniors, and many seniors have diminished hearing, we were puzzled why the music had to be so loud - surely it interrupted conversations at other tables. The restaurant looks fantastic and the service was great. Totally friendly staff. Quickly seated and the atmosphere was homey and enjoyable. Felt like you were in the original Cracker Barrel with down home service and environment. But I must say the food was not what I thought it would be. I ordered the meatloaf and I don't mind saying that it was actually probably the worst meatloaf I've ever tasted and I've had hundreds. The inside was cold, so I'm not sure if they microwaved it or if they heated up in the stove. It was served with mashed potatoes, and the center of the mashed potatoes was also cold. The breakfast items were tasty but it's harder to mess up on breakfast. I definitely would try it again. I just don't recommend the meatloaf. read more

We stopped for breakfast on our way home from the airport and we had delicious food, great service, and the best bloody mary! The Tex Mex Omelet is amazing! Full of shredded cheese, house chili, avocado, salsa, sour cream, and cilantro - it has so much flavor and it also served with american fries and wheat toast. The Richfield Bloody Mary is out of this world - full of bold flavor and paired with a pickle, a sausage stick and cheese. So good! We will definitely be back! read more

Time for another update. Today, I went to the Sawmill Inn to celebrate, well, to celebrate a couple of things. First of all, I treated myself to breakfast on my birthday. (My age? X=YxA where Y is years and A is my number of years on earth, your job is to solve for X and good luck with that.) The other thing was a salute to my dear friend, the late Mike. He and I used to go for coffee at the Sawmill Inn every Sunday for years. That was a couple of owners ago and I'm happy the Sawmill Inn was rescued by new owners who saved it from the joker who almost killed it several years back, but I digress. I arrived a little after opening (7:00 AM) and was quickly seated. Coffee arrived quickly. Some of you know that I don't eat very much anymore, so I ordered one blueberry pancake (that's what I always used to order for breakfast) with a side of bacon, coffee, and orange juice. Let's get this out of the way - the best bacon in the WORLD is Nueske's from Wittenburg. If you don't agree, well, we can't be friends anymore. (Actually, we can, just don't talk food with me, okay?) The pancake and bacon were all served on one large platter. Butter was melting and running all over the pancake. YAY! I hate having to dig cold, rock hard, butter out of those stupid little white packages and wait while it never really melts. THANK YOU, George! The pancake was smaller than I recall from all those years ago, but it was just the perfect size for me these days. (I used to leave quite a bit behind.) Most of you, who have larger appetites than I, will want to order the regular pancake setup, which I believe is two. Sorry you couldn't be with me, Mike, but you're always at the Sawmill Inn with me, at least, in spirit. read more

The owner of this place likes to reply to only positive reviews of his restaurant. He should try to reply to those that have a negative experience. The waitress and the cooks in the morning should be fired and never be allowed to work in a restaurant again. I have a friend that went there for breakfast recently even after I told her about the experience I had she told me afterwards that she would never go back. Visited today. Very basic service from Tess . Paid at the table with Tess. As we were walking away a few minutes later she asked in front of a group of people if we were going to pay. We looked at her very surprised and said we had already. She checked her receipts and realized she had indeed checked us out a few moments prior. I called the manager, George, who defended Tess, said she was one of his best servers, said he would not have been embarrassed and that 2 servers had called in today. I asked if he was going to pass along the comments. He reluctantly said "Well yah" and reiterated what a good server she was. Clearly he is not management trained. Go elsewhere. The food was good and our waitress was awesome. The reason for the one star is the manager. We had a group of four and they set us on a high top table in the main dining room. Part way through our lunch our waitress came and asked how long are we going to be there. The manager had her ask because they were expecting a large group and wanted us out by the time they got there. Let me say that we weren't loud or anything crazy like that. It's pretty bad that the manager was clearing out the main dining room for this group. If was going to be a problem why did they set us there. Our total time there was about an hour.
