I've been to Hot House Tavern a few times over the years, but apparently I haven't left a review. This review will cover my most recent visit, which was with a large group of people. I ordered both Cajun BBQ wings and duck wontons for my meal. The wings are decently sized and the Cajun BBQ sauce certainly has heat to it. I wish they were breaded wings because that's my preference, but they were good as is. I wouldn't be opposed to getting these again. The duck wontons were more egg roll like than I expected and you could tell there was freshness to the ingredients in them. My issue, though, was the duck didn't stand out at all. If that's supposed to be the star of the dish and the reason three egg rolls are $15, I would hope you could taste the duck. Also, they were nuclear hot inside and I recommend them cool for quite a while before eating them.

    Fiesta burger and fries

First time going to this tavern to have lunch with a friend. Our server Hannah was very friendly and brought us our requested water. I ordered the loaded nachos which was part of their monthly specials. The chips had refried beans, Mexican rice, queso, pico de gallo, sour cream and I requested mild salsa. I added on seasoned ground beef and guacamole on the side. The portion was very large and I brought a lot home which my son enjoyed. My sister in law ordered the Fiesta burger which was the burger of the month. The burger had pepper jack cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, lettuce and chipotle mayo. My sil asked not to have the mayo added. She had a choice of a side and she chose French fries. She wasn't impressed with the burger, it looked like a cooked frozen patty to her because of its size and shape. She did like the fries though. I was happy our server was able to give us separate bills which is always nice. Although my nachos were plentiful I thought it was odd to call them loaded nachos and then you had to pay extra for meat and guacamole. They came to $21.74 with tax and I added a $5 tip because our server was good. I don't live in Menomonee Falls, we chose it because it has a halfway between our homes. Don't think we will go back for our next get together but it was nice to try some place new.

Cool historic building services as the backdrop this evening's dinner. Very lively vibe with plenty of TV screens for sports/news, etc. The menu features an eclectic mix of comfort food, vegetarian eats and bar bites. Our server was very friendly and efficient! Came here with kids and the food arrived fast (to our relief). The tempura shrimp had just a thin layer of crispy breading which was perfect! Hubby ordered the fried cod with sweet potatoes. The fish was good but the breading seemed a bit heavy. Loved the sweet potato fries. Kids enjoyed their food. The fries had a subtle hint of spice to it that stood out to me. Overall, great place for a causal meal. I get this place gets packed when there's live music or events.

Yum, yum and again, yum I went to this crafty establishment on a random Tuesday afternoon, and even so, this place was very lively! Many people there doing business meetings and having family gatherings. I ordered the sunflower pesto pasta it was absolutely delicious. Very savory but not overly so. The spices used were definitely on point too. I would also like to commend my server, Mya, for her excellent service and attention to detail. Would definitely recommend going if you're in the area and trying to decide on a good place to go for reasonably priced food, drinks and good times

Nashville hot...perfect amount of spicy. Could use more slaw/sauce

The Nashville hot doesn't disappoint. Always a solid choice at this place. I would like a like more slaw/sauce but still tasty!

Hot House Hot Chicken special... so damn good, they should name the place ... oh wait. ;-)

Service, Food and Atmosphere on a Tuesday was tops. We had group of 6, dining outside with two options... front or back (quieter side). Apps.. we went with huge pretzel, pheasant poppers and curds (of course) all were very good and delivered hot. I got the Tuesday Hot House special 1/2 chicken. Boom. Deep fried hot spiced oil perfection. I think the fryer was super hot and it wasn't real greasy, crispy and light breading turned to spicy crust. Bomb dropped!!! Flavor, moist tender. So good.

When we're in the Menomonee Falls area, we sometimes stop in at the Hot House. They've got enough on their menu to appeal to a variety of taste experiences. I do like some of the craft cocktails they create; however, some of them are absolutely overpriced for what you get. Charging $12 a glass for the small pours of Cabernet is silly to me. The mixed drinks or straight pours of Bourbon are always tasty, though. Their food consistency is a bit hit or miss, depending on the time of day. The portions that they will have for ingredients put on sandwiches or the amount of fries that you get seem to be all over the map. The Appleton Ave Melt was good, and I added both avocado and bacon to it. But it was just too thin. The pictures look decent, but the food was all shoved toward the middle of the sandwich, and once you got to the end, you were just eating bread. I think there should have been more to it. We also grabbed the Tempura Veggies, and those were piled high; there were more than we could finish, and they served it with a nice citrus Thai chili sauce that had a nice bite to it. The waitstaff has always been very friendly, and there are no complaints I've ever had to raise about service there. Many times, it's going to be loud so just be prepared for that. They also have outdoor seating which is nice when the weather is appropriate. Parking is a bit tight, and sometimes it's better to part on the street than their parking lot.

    Fish fry (takeout)

I used to like their fish fry but it's not what it used to be. The fish was too salty and the clam chowder was watery and of a funny color. I like the concept of this place and its history, and I know that it is very popular, but the food is not what it used to be. The service is still nice and attentive. The lady bartenders are awesome!

Pheasant poppers, so good I forgot to take the photo when there were 4.

I like the patio outside and once went to an event upstairs- which was a nice space. This place can get really busy but we sat at the bar. I would definitely get the pheasant poppers again, and the hot house chicken is good. A grilled option for the chicken on the salad would be great!

    Upstairs! Great room

Food was good but the brownies were amazing. The staff is pleasant and the upstairs bartender was brilliant in producing amazing mocktails and cocktails. Cool old firehouse vibe and chill casual location. Serves Athletics, Lakefront N/A and had a lot of no alcohol choices to please the whole crowd. Highly recommend.

We were in Menomonee Falls for two local festivals (art and India Independence Day) and the day was HOT. There weren't too many hearty meal options we were interested in at the festivals, so we found this restaurant right on Appleton in between the two festivals, and it was just the perfect thing we needed. We ended up sitting outside on the front patio, with a large table and seated under an umbrella. Inside the place was bustling with folks sitting and others at the bar. The staff was so friendly and helped us get seated right away outside. We were famished and our group of 5 ended up with 2 orders of fish tacos, a burger, a spicy chicken sandwich, a salad, and an appetizer of cheese curds. The food was good and filling. The best was the ambience, especially sitting outside, and it's a place I'd visit again.

I wanted a place to grab a drink and watch a game. This place is roomy and has many tv option viewing. Some of the tvs are burnt out and blue haze but nothing to disrupt you from coming. Snack: the cheese curbs are amazing and I got them Cajun which was the right choice. Whiskey options are limited so that's a bummer. Good beer options along with wine. Cocktail prices though are decent. Nothing over $12 on the menu. Service was promoted at the bar and attentive. They had two bartenders on a Sunday night.

We started outside on their sidewalk patio but moved inside when the inside wait disappeared and it became chilly outside. Nice patios both in front and in back of the restaurant. We started with some fun beers on tap and cheese curds. Both were great. Loved the batter on the curds and the fact that they were a bit bigger than usual curds. Very tasty. I chose the shrimp tacos which would have been very good but there was so much sauce poured on them I could barely pick them up. Super messy. Please relax on the sauce next time. I still gave a good rating despite I wasn't super happy about my meal because another person at our table got the same thing and hers were perfect. The homemade chips (and the few fries I stole from other's plates) were delicious. Staff was on top of things. We found a parking spot right next to the building. All good.

When we first arrived, the restaurant was not busy. Only a couple other tables occupied, so expectations were fairly high for a smooth experience. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. The food took quite a while to come out despite how slow it was. When it finally did, it was first delivered to the wrong table before eventually making its way to us. The food runner then randomly grabbed a ranch from our table and brought it to another table. He seemed potentially new, but overall the service felt very disorganized and clueless, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered the cheese curds to start, and they were disappointing. The breading was mushy and extremely greasy, and the cheese itself tasted low quality rather than the fresh curds you'd expect at a Wisconsin pub. We also ordered several wing flavors since they were on special: garlic parm, buffalo, bourbon BBQ, and lemon pepper. One issue right away was the lack of flavor variety overall on the menu. The wings themselves were inconsistent. Sizes varied dramatically, which clearly affected the cook quality. Some were fried so hard they were like chewing leather, while others had soggy, undercooked skin. Flavor wise the buffalo were almost completely flavorless. The lemon pepper was extremely mild. The garlic parm was probably the best of the group, though still just average. The bourbon BBQ was rough. The sauce tasted like an overly sweet, overly salty cheap jarred glaze rather than an actual house-made BBQ sauce. My wife ordered the Mary Mac burger without a bun and was told extra lettuce leaves could be substituted to make it a lettuce wrap. Instead, it came out with just shredded lettuce. The burger itself was overcooked and lacking flavor. The fries were decent enough, but nothing memorable. Overall, this felt like a place with potential that just missed the mark on both execution and consistency during our visit.

The quietness of the patio on a Friday evening was striking . No ambiance, no background music even though it was the perfect evening to be outside. It was so quiet that it was a bit awkward being the tables so close. It felt like we were all whispering. Our server handed us the menus and told us what the specials of the day were. The 1 star is for the great service given by her. It's a bit excessive when patrons are warned beforehand of NO changes to the menu. The creativity of the chef seemed more important than the desire of the customer. My husband ordered the hamburger and it had no flavor and the fries no seasoning. It looked like something they didn't put effort in making either. He also said that the iced tea that was cloudy. I ordered from the specials of the day: the duck ramen and, even though it looked great and smelled great, it didn't have a lot of flavor. We were shocked to find the price by the time the check came. Beware of the prices of the daily specials. They are not in the printed menu and prices and not indicated on the Facebook page either.

Apparently I haven't been to Allgauer's in forever because it's February 2024 and they stopped doing the all you can eat fish fry around April 2023. What a shame cause it was pretty good and there are so few all you can eat places left. The hostess joked with me that the restaurant was empty when I got there because of that change, but there was a lot of honesty in what she was saying because I was the only one there at 5:20pm when it used to be packed right after opening. They did have something my picky kid would eat, so the family ended up meeting me for dinner. I ordered the half pound of beer battered lake perch with two pieces of fried cod for an extra $3 charge each, my wife got and older kid got cheeseburgers, and the picky kid got a kid's grilled cheese. My youngest liked his grilled cheese because we specifically asked for American cheese on it. The hostess believed it came with cheddar and we knew he wouldn't eat that. The older kid and my wife were impressed by the cheeseburgers. They weren't anything fancy, but they had really good flavor and were cooked medium-well like they wanted. I didn't love the cod, but the perch was fantastic. The pieces were small so I was given nine instead of the five I was told I would normally get for a half pound. That's okay cause I'd rather have more small pieces than fewer large pieces if the small ones taste like lake perch should and aren't bland. We all got crinkled fries, which isn't my favorite, but they weren't bad as far as crinkle fries go. By the time we left almost an hour later close to a dozen other people had come in. Certainly not the hopping place it was when they had the all you can eat fish fry, but not empty either. Even without the AYCE, we'll probably come back.

How many times is this place gonna change and who do they think they are serving? It's a hotel bar in Wisconsin north Milwaukee. Noone needs tuna nachos here. Everything i saw come out looked like it was precooked rubber. Embarrassing! $31 for a piece of frozen walleye fish??? Cmon man! I saw a lady order chicken parm and she ate 6 bites and turned it away w no to go box. It looked awful!!!! I mentioned something to the bar tender. So she took it upon herself to talk to the chef. I witnessed her interaction w the chef. He was not happy i was enquiring about their wonton cheese stix or their caprese salad or for some normal beef nachos. The chef pointed and started yelling as he walked away referring to their new bs menu that he apparently worked so hard on. This chef needs to listen to the clientele. He doesn't own the place of course but his actions were in front of many customers as i saw 4 different people come inside and check the menu and leave. And i was there for an hour for a couple drinks. How many other people do the same? They are way too expensive for what they are selling. This place better clean up their act as i come here often enough. Look - this place doesn't have so much but is well rounded. I would still recommend the burger (believe it or not) med rare. Guessing the Wings are still good - and still pricey for 7 - ask for them crispy. And wonton cheese stix were a bonus (which they dont have any longer). They have frozen cheese squares. Cant even get cheese curds!? Wish they bring back the caprese salad - please! And they used to have some pretzels w Wisconsin beer cheese - cant pull that off any longer either. Breakfast however has not changed and between dry toast and not so great morning service id choose elsewhere. They need to get the act together with the team at hilton garden. Noone has time to sit and order breakfast then wait around for it to come to your table. Do they? I dont. Im sad people in the back just dont care here. And maybe turn the lights down for dinner. It was like an operating room inside the bar. Ive had quite a few discussions with management here about the food. I could keep going about this chef. He needs to be removed. Or lets have a face to face. Because he was rude enough to the bar tender who was just giving in-site. He needs to be spoken to and held accountable....listen to your people. Your food is not what it should be. Remember the customer is always right. Especially in this case. Sad to say.
