I've been to Hot House Tavern a few times over the years, but apparently I haven't left a review. This review will cover my most recent visit, which was with a large group of people. I ordered both Cajun BBQ wings and duck wontons for my meal. The wings are decently sized and the Cajun BBQ sauce certainly has heat to it. I wish they were breaded wings because that's my preference, but they were good as is. I wouldn't be opposed to getting these again. The duck wontons were more egg roll like than I expected and you could tell there was freshness to the ingredients in them. My issue, though, was the duck didn't stand out at all. If that's supposed to be the star of the dish and the reason three egg rolls are $15, I would hope you could taste the duck. Also, they were nuclear hot inside and I recommend them cool for quite a while before eating them. read more

First time going to this tavern to have lunch with a friend. Our server Hannah was very friendly and brought us our requested water. I ordered the loaded nachos which was part of their monthly specials. The chips had refried beans, Mexican rice, queso, pico de gallo, sour cream and I requested mild salsa. I added on seasoned ground beef and guacamole on the side. The portion was very large and I brought a lot home which my son enjoyed. My sister in law ordered the Fiesta burger which was the burger of the month. The burger had pepper jack cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, lettuce and chipotle mayo. My sil asked not to have the mayo added. She had a choice of a side and she chose French fries. She wasn't impressed with the burger, it looked like a cooked frozen patty to her because of its size and shape. She did like the fries though. I was happy our server was able to give us separate bills which is always nice. Although my nachos were plentiful I thought it was odd to call them loaded nachos and then you had to pay extra for meat and guacamole. They came to $21.74 with tax and I added a $5 tip because our server was good. I don't live in Menomonee Falls, we chose it because it has a halfway between our homes. Don't think we will go back for our next get together but it was nice to try some place new. read more

Cool historic building services as the backdrop this evening's dinner. Very lively vibe with plenty of TV screens for sports/news, etc. The menu features an eclectic mix of comfort food, vegetarian eats and bar bites. Our server was very friendly and efficient! Came here with kids and the food arrived fast (to our relief). The tempura shrimp had just a thin layer of crispy breading which was perfect! Hubby ordered the fried cod with sweet potatoes. The fish was good but the breading seemed a bit heavy. Loved the sweet potato fries. Kids enjoyed their food. The fries had a subtle hint of spice to it that stood out to me. Yum, yum and again, yum I went to this crafty establishment on a random Tuesday afternoon, and even so, this place was very lively! Many people there doing business meetings and having family gatherings. I ordered the sunflower pesto pasta it was absolutely delicious. Very savory but not overly so. The spices used were definitely on point too. I would also like to commend my server, Mya, for her excellent service and attention to detail. Service, Food and Atmosphere on a Tuesday was tops. We had group of 6, dining outside with two options... front or back (quieter side). Apps.. we went with huge pretzel, pheasant poppers and curds (of course) all were very good and delivered hot. I got the Tuesday Hot House special 1/2 chicken. Boom. Deep fried hot spiced oil perfection. I think the fryer was super hot and it wasn't real greasy, crispy and light breading turned to spicy crust. Bomb dropped!!! Flavor, moist tender. When we're in the Menomonee Falls area, we sometimes stop in at the Hot House. They've got enough on their menu to appeal to a variety of taste experiences. I do like some of the craft cocktails they create; however, some of them are absolutely overpriced for what you get. Charging $12 a glass for the small pours of Cabernet is silly to me. The mixed drinks or straight pours of Bourbon are always tasty, though. Their food consistency is a bit hit or miss, depending on the time of day. The portions that they will have for ingredients put on sandwiches or the amount of fries that you get seem to be all over the map. The Appleton Ave Melt was good, and I added both avocado and bacon to it. But it was just too thin. The pictures look decent, but the food was all shoved toward the middle of the sandwich, and once you got to the end, you were just eating bread. I think there should have been more to it. We also grabbed the Tempura Veggies, and those were piled high; there were more than we could finish, and they served it with a nice citrus Thai chili sauce that had a nice bite to it. The waitstaff has always been very friendly, and there are no complaints I've ever had to raise about service there. Many times, it's going to be loud so just be prepared for that. They also have outdoor seating which is nice when the weather is appropriate. Parking is a bit tight, and sometimes it's better to part on the street than their parking lot. read more

I used to like their fish fry but it's not what it used to be. The fish was too salty and the clam chowder was watery and of a funny color. I like the concept of this place and its history, and I know that it is very popular, but the food is not what it used to be. The service is still nice and attentive. We were in Menomonee Falls for two local festivals (art and India Independence Day) and the day was HOT. There weren't too many hearty meal options we were interested in at the festivals, so we found this restaurant right on Appleton in between the two festivals, and it was just the perfect thing we needed. We ended up sitting outside on the front patio, with a large table and seated under an umbrella. Inside the place was bustling with folks sitting and others at the bar. The staff was so friendly and helped us get seated right away outside. We were famished and our group of 5 ended up with 2 orders of fish tacos, a burger, a spicy chicken sandwich, a salad, and an appetizer of cheese curds. The food was good and filling. The best was the ambience, especially sitting outside, and it's a place I'd visit again. read more

Snack: the cheese curbs are amazing and I got them Cajun which was the right choice. Whiskey options are limited so that's a bummer. Good beer options along with wine. We started outside on their sidewalk patio but moved inside when the inside wait disappeared and it became chilly outside. Nice patios both in front and in back of the restaurant. We started with some fun beers on tap and cheese curds. Both were great. Loved the batter on the curds and the fact that they were a bit bigger than usual curds. Very tasty. I chose the shrimp tacos which would have been very good but there was so much sauce poured on them I could barely pick them up. Super messy. Please relax on the sauce next time. I still gave a good rating despite I wasn't super happy about my meal because another person at our table got the same thing and hers were perfect. David and I went to Hot House over lunch this Friday and loved it! First of all, I never realized how cute downtown Menomonee falls is. Such an underrated town in Wisconsin. You MUST and I repeat MUST start with their cheese curds! The hot house ranch that comes with it is The curds are so airy and light. Ugh I'm drooling just thinking about them. I will warn you, the spicy hot house dip that comes on the salad is HOT . I'm decent with heat, but this was a little too hot for me. I'm not going to knock them points because the chicken was incredibly crispy and the salad is still delicious. I just personally wouldn't get it again with the heat. Overall Hot House is a great place to checkout if you are looking for super solid food and an awesome atmosphere. Will definitely be back! read more

We arrived to a little bit of a wait, but we put our name in and grabbed a drink at the bar. I got the local cider and it was delicious. Perfect mix of seasonal spices and sweetness. Not too overwhelming. Once we sat down we ordered the HUGE pretzel. It was more than enough for 3 people. We asked for stone ground mustard and it took a little while to come. I ordered the chicken bites salad. It was very good. The sauce was spicy, but balanced well with the blue cheese. read more

Loved our experience at Hot House Tavern from beginning to end! Hot House Tavern is located in an old historic firehouse so the location/building is very cool. We recently stopped by here on a Sunday evening for a pre-movie dinner. They have a large patio as well as expansive indoor dining options. We were hoping for the patio, which was full but were happy to get a table right by the roll up doors. Our server was fantastic. He was prompt and attentive throughout our visit. We started things off with their big pretzel which is huge and comes with cheese sauce. We loved it! For my entree, I got their maple glazed salmon, which comes served over parmesan red potatoes and snow peas. It was flavorful, juicy, and absolutely delicious. One of my dining companions got their mac & cheese, which I had a bite of and is creamy, cheesy deliciousness. A top notch experience. Get to it! read more

Decided to try Hot House Tavern while visiting down and wasn't disappointed. The tavern chips fresh cut and made there. The nuggets hand breaded and usually tossed in sauce, kept the sauce on the side to share with my pup. The Shepherds pie wasn't traditional but had great flavor. I got here at 5 pm on a Wednesday and it was very busy already. They have a small parking lot to the north and south of the building but they are small. Not many places so you either have to park on the street or the public parking across the street. The place is extremely loud so if you are trying to have a date or actually talk to someone good luck. I ordered a mandarin salad which was good but the chicken had a fish taste. The second I paid the bill the server never once stopped back to refill our water which I found annoying because I left a large tip knowing my friend and I would be there chatting for a little while after paying the bill. There's a cool vibe at Hot House and when the weather is nice, the patio seating is great. Parking can be challenging depending on the time and events surrounding the place. The salmon is very good, it has a Bacon Vinaigrette that I got on the side but ended up really liking it and using it. A side of snap peas and a couple of red smashed potatoes accompany the salmon. Hot Haus Tavern has a great location and super close to Lavender Fest. There's a cool summer vibe with big open areas and seating outside. The have a big menu with quite a few gluten free options. I was pretty excited to try the tempura vegetables. Unfortunately, the batter was quite salty without much flavor. I also had a salad and added chicken and they definitely used frozen microwaveable grilled chicken strips - gross. Husband liked the chicken tenders a lot. Service was really good. They checked on us a lot and we're kind. The service is the reason for the 4/5 stars. Most places this has gone down hill, but at Hot Haus they seemed to really value taking care of the customer. read more

The food is always delicious, the staff are always friendly and attentive, and I like how they've kept a lot of the fire station look to the inside. I think they have options for everyone and even though I gave up meat, there's still many options on the menu for me. I had less than 24 hours in Milwaukee and my goal was to have fried cheese curds for every meal. Since I was on a tight schedule, I used Yelp to look up cheese curds during lunch and this was the closest restaurant. The restaurant is nice. Very large dining area, huge bar, and plenty of seating. I started off with an order of cheese curds. The batter was great, seasoned well but they were a bit undercooked. The bigger ones were not fully cooked, so it was like eating a lukewarm mozzarella stick. The smaller ones were fully cooked with molten, gooey cheese on the inside. They had a St. Patty's special menu they were still offering but the two things I wanted were items they ran out of. Discouraged, I ended up ordering a Reuben & fries from the main menu. The Reuben was great, nice amount of tart sauerkraut with meaty, savory slabs of corned beef. The fries were freshly cooked, crispy and steaming after each bite. Despite loving the Midwest as much as I do, I'll never get over the fact that they don't have Coca-Cola products and everything is Pepsi. Other than that, it was a pretty good lunch spot! read more

I stopped in to do a restaurant review on Tuesday. I got there at 3pm so the place was pretty empty, but that was to my advantage as it wasn't terribly loud in there and service was prompt. I ordered a beer along with the Hot House Nuggets and the Cheese Curds along with a side of their comeback sauce. The nuggets were a little dry but the flavors were there. Spicy and sweet, it had enough heat to let you know it was there but not so much that it hurt. **I like spicy food and I feel that for folks that don't or can't handle heat, it may be a little too much**. The cheese curds were perfect. I then ordered the Monthly Burger special, which was the Big Easy. A blackened burger with pepper jack cheese, andouille sausage, crispy onion strips and a remoulade sauce. The burger came out with a healthy serving of fries. I thought the burger was well seasoned and everything went together well. I did notice my burger wasn't blackened and while I was ok with it, I did mention it because I wanted to ensure they knew it came out with it. While I didn't ask, or necessary want, a replacement burger they gave me one anyway. I really appreciated that they wanted to make it right and I will say, the blackened seasoning really made a difference. Based on initial experience, I would come back. But..... I had ordered their 2 piece dark chicken meal with healthy hash to go. When I got it home, the bottom of the container was swimming in grease. The breading on the chicken was saturated in grease and had to be removed. The chicken underneath was good, so not all was lost. My wife felt the healthy hash was a little salt heavy but overall, not terrible. So here is the rub.... They are supposed to be known for their chicken and the two chicken dished we had wasn't up to par with their reputation. While I would go back and give their chicken sandwich a try, my wife has decided she would rather not risk getting the chicken again and opt for something different. read more

I wasn't:t very impressed with this restaurant . I was there for a weekday lunch. Very loud , had manager following a waiter around . This waiter came to our table and asked if we wanted any beverages to start . I asked for a bloody Mary with a rail vodka . The " manager " Rudely interrupted the server and asked me if I would like to have a bacon flavored vodka by some company which would add another $10.00 to the original Bloody Mary I ordered . Apparently some of that money would go to a charity . Nice gesture ...however ....the manager was loud and kind of demanding telling I should pay the extra to help out this charity . I passed on it . Then I ordered just your basic burger . Bun was cold and crumbly . Two bites of the burger and that was it for me . The burger actually was cold in the middle even tho I ordered it as medium well . Server asked if I was done eating and I asked for a to go box .but he took my plate so I thought he would box it up . But . He threw the food away. . I thought he took it to box it up himself . We really enjoy coming here. They always have ample staff, lots of new specials and the food is always delicious. Some of my favorites have been the mac and cheese, and the chicken bacon ranch wrap. We also have a gluten intolerance in our family and they have a ton of gf options. They also have a good drink list, including mocktails. It can be overly loud in here at times, especially if they're playing games over the speakers and we have had issues in the past where they basically forgot we were waiting for a table but overall it's relatively been good service. read more

I'm going to speak for every person who has ever dined out and asked their server for a recommendation on the menu and all they want is a genuine answer -- managers, pay attention -- the first order of business when you hire a new server should be to have them try at least ONE if not TWO items on the menu so they can genuinely share their experience with it. Husband ordered the chicken sandwich = 5 stars I decided to go with server recommendation of shrimp tacos instead of the burger I was leaning toward and they were like someone beer battered the shrimp (could only taste batter / fryer) and then threw some weird warm slightly melted cheese on top and wrapped it up in a plain ass flour tortilla. next. She ain't never had them shrimp tacos before because no way would her ass be out here saying oh yeah they're delicious then seeing them come out looking that way . You have one job. Do it better.
