I can't believe I've never done a review on this place. This is a top-notch local mechanic. They are very reasonable with pricing and what impresses me the most is because of an emergency my daughter needed a new battery. It came to the shop at noon time today and is already fixed. As the former owner of a finicky 2002 Saab 9-3, and a current owner of a 2005 Saab 9-5 having a reputable, cost effective, customer service oriented repair shop is a must. I've found Sawyer Automotive to be all these qualities and more. This independent auto repair shop always calls me first to discuss what they've found so that we can make the best decisions for my vehicle and my wallet. Their honest and straight forward approach has always made me feel confident in their repairs. The only drawback to their small size is that they are not always available the next day when "emergency repairs" are needed. Read this as a great demand for quality work. So you are more likely to get a "we can't see it tomorrow, but we can fit you in x days from now" which is usually within a couple of days. However in their defense they always meet the schedule they have laid out for me. If they say to bring it in on Monday and it'll be finished in the afternoon... it always is. This is a small business doing great work. You owe it to yourself to try out their services. read more

I don't often 'rate' but Sawyer's is a great repair shop. They do the work you ask, no hassle, reasonable prices, no upsell or down-talk. The quality of the work has always been top notch. I have college age kids so sometimes bring them cars that are higher miles and Sawyer has always been honest and receptive. Outstanding. read more

From the 2 good reviews above, it seems that they really do a good job and "actively try and find the most cost efficient ways". But my experience is not really like that. I have a old 93 Honda. And I were pretty sure that I got some problem on my CV joints. So I brought my car in Sawyer Automotive, let them diagnose it and give me a estimation. They confirmed that I need replace both front axles. The part is $140 for each and labor for one side $140 for both side $240 (they said that was a deal they gave to me). Total is $520. I did ask if this fix could be any cheaper in any other way, but got the answer this is the best they can do. And sure, they don't take any parts custom bring in. I did a little research online, the best price for new part I could find is only $50! And they also try to charge me like 3 hours labor for that and call it a deal! I end up to find another decent place do the same job for $240, $75 for each axle and 90 for labor. I were waiting there and I just took well less than 1 hour. Maybe they do decent job, but I don't know since I just cannot take their price. read more

Sawyer's has gone from Amazing to unreliable. Old School Sawyer's is great: honest, work done well and a fair price. New Sawyer's is unreliable (have had to bring cars back, work done improperly, and other sketchiness). Frankly as a mechanic fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. While they might not be a total 1 star, I can't recommend them and won't be going back, therefore, 1 star. read more

I was up in the area traveling for work when I hit an ice patch and slid into a curb. the guys at sawyer did a great job and got me back home on schedule. this included getting a difficult part from a dealer overnighted etc. I felt the work completed was done well. they showed me the bad part and the rates seemed very fair especially since all my repairs were out of pocket. highly recommend. read more

The turbo on my Subaru blew. Sawyer refused to replace it because "they didn't want to take up room in their bay" (direct quote). I found a brand new turbo on Craigslist for $700, installed it myself in 5 hours, and drove the car for another 40k miles before I sold it. While at the Subaru dealer picking up some parts I needed to install my new turbo (oil feed line, washers, etc), they informed me that Sawyer had a history of unsuccessful turbo installs, and that they were no longer doing turbo replacements. Been coming here for 20 years with our cars, our children's cars, and my companies cars. Ray and his family are the most honest people you'll ever find anywhere. They will bend over backwards to help you in any situation. I've read the few bad reviews here and they're written by people who never write a good review on any business. That's just plain stupid and unreasonable. In this day and age integrity means everything and that's why I will always keep coming here. read more

Great Prices, honest, and will always be 100% transparent with you and will always call you before they replace anything to figure out what is the best decision you can make for your car and your wallet. For the review that said that they wouldn't replace your turbo. At least they knew that it is not there strongsuit and didn't want to make your situation worse. I dont see how that is a 1 star review for them being completely honest. And for the few people giving 1 stars for prices, first of all, Sawyers is well known for being the cheapest around. Second, I know that a lot of people claim to know everything about their car and what is bad on the car and what is good. I do not see the reason for them to ruin the reputation and all the sudden start saying that a part is bad even though its not. If a mechanic from here tells you that something is bad, then I would trust them. If something isn't bad yet, but they can see that it will start to turn bad in a few thousand miles, from my experience they have let me know that and want to do what is the best option for you, without trying to pressure you. read more

I imagine a 5-star auto repair shop would give complimentary massages and unlimited cappuccino refills. A 4-star auto repair shop is friendly, clean, helpful, does great work and charges for the hours they actually spend on your car. That's Sawyer. I recommend them to all my friends, and know that when my daughter takes her car there, she's going to get the same honest treatment that I do. read more

Been a customer of this place for 12 years! Recently my alternator died on my 1999 car. I was told the part would be $250 and labor would be $125. When I spoke to them I mentioned that the car was old and I would try to get a remanufactured replacement part. They said okay and I found one online for $68. So I figured $125 plus $68 was not bad. When I got the part I called Sawyer and told them I had the part and they said that they don't replace "outside" parts. Huh? Why wasn't I told that when we first spoke? "You don't bring outside food into a restaurant" is the direct quote. I was told that to replace the "outside" part would be $225 in labor. This is how you treat a 12 year customer? I guess they have enough customers so that they can treat them all like dirt. Will never take a car there again! read more

Honest, prompt & courteous service at reasonable prices! The shop was recommended by a good friend of ours about a year ago. I like that they know our names and the histories of our cars and somebody always calls with a very accurate cost estimate, a clear explanation of what they propose to do and when the job will be done. For example, a rear brake seized one morning and Sawyer's was able to complete a rear brake job by the same afternoon. On another occasion, the symptoms suggested that the battery may have just died yet Ray took the time to test the individual cells in the battery, check the starter and then called to get more details about the incident. I recommend Sawyer's without reservation because I am confident they will do an excellent job at the most economical cost and in the most expedient way. read more

They always price at or below the estimate they quote, tell you when you can safely wait (or not!) to get a larger repair, and will take the time to answer questions fairly and honestly. Asking too much to repair ball joints and said they were all bad on one side when only the upper was bad on one side and the lower was bad on the other. Also claimed there was an exhaust leak and there wasn't one. Incompetent mechanics won't go there again and wouldn't even give them one star if there was an option. read more

You know how you always nod your head when a mechanic explains what needs to be done with your car, even though you really don't understand and know that you will be paying much too much for what they do? Sawyer is the opposite of that. It's the kind of place that you'd imagine Mr. Cleaver went to -- no frills, honest, and reasonable. They do what needs to be done, and don't soak you for it. Place is terrible. Noticed plug for oil was loose so wanted to get it tightened to not lose any more oil. Went in and asked if they could toghten or show me what's wrong.... really not that hard. 20 minutes later they show me a bent washer and a $30 bill. Gee thanks. Went in for advice not service. Didn't even give me a choice. If I knew you were gonna charge me $30 for a 10 cent washer I would of opted not to and fix on my own. Best part? Didn't even work!! Still losing oil from plug. Awesome job guys. Really appreciate it. Solved nothing and cost me money. read more

These guys are great. I brought my car in with nearly no brakes (almost had to stop Fred Flintstone-style) and they repaired and replaced everything that needed fixing with my brakes for a much lower amount than estimated elsewhere. Love this place! Great mechanics and super office staff. Are they cheapest around? No. Sometimes the lowest cost repair is not the best repair. Don't get me wrong -- Sawyer's prices are definitely fair. Sawyer uses quality parts -- not the cheapest crap off the internet. As well they do quality work & I am ok with paying a bit extra for that. If you are a price surfer -- you should probably go some place else. However, if you want reliable, honest, knowledgeable people working on your vehicle -- this is exactly the place you should be! read more

Sawyer Automotive is a very good auto repair shop. I try to do most of the ordinary maintenance work I my cars but when a job is over my head due lack of skills, tools, time, health, etc. I always bring my cars to Sawyer and have for years. Mike and Rick are very nice guys and they have always been honest with us. These guys know their stuff, their charges are quite reasonable, and they stand behind their work. Since I don't drink cappuccino, I'll give Sawyer the 5 stars and agree with everything else Tim said. I've been a customer since 2005 and have had four different cars in their care off and on. I send my daughters there. They don't inflate the story, they tell me when I should start expecting a big bill in the months ahead and they remind me when I haven't gotten the right work done. They even help economize on the work needed to keep my old van going. Great folks, great work. What more could you want? Oh, yeah, cappuccino. I'll settle for the coffee. read more
