I've been to Say Cheese to get a couple cheese platters for parties in the past and was always pleased with the quality of the cheese and the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Today, I decided to give their sandwiches a shot, and I'm really glad I did. I'm not sure why but I expected more of a grab and go kind of sandwich from a good market or deli, but what I got was definitely a step above. I was pleasantly surprised, I got the French No-Dip and the Barcelona. Both were absolutely delicious, had clearly high quality meats and cheeses and were on fresh bread, and came with a nice mixed green salad. I don't think they advertise their cafe offerings much, I had to ask for the menu, and the other side of the shop which looks like the cafe isn't open for seating, but they have a few tables and chairs outside. Anyway, I highly recommend the sandwiches here, I would say definitely the best in the Silverlake area! read more

Perfect lunch break! Ordered my fave tuna melt and tried the paprika chips for the first time which were a nice twist. Tasty sandwiches made to order, phenomenal selections of cheeses and snacks for your cheese party, though the service can we quite slow even when just getting a 1/4lb of cheese. When asking for an 1/8th of a pound of a cheese I was told that I couldn't order less than a 1/4lb of any cheese which makes no sense to me, especially since I bought almost a pound of two other cheeses. When I asked the cashier why, he replied with "because 1/4lb is the smallest we offer." Okay... I've had so many cheeses here (Aged Gouda, triple cream brie, and sharp cheddar are top faves), I love the shopping area (They also stock my favorite truffle chips by Torres), and they have a good selection of wine to accompany that. I had a few sandwiches made for a small event here, and the attention to detail was phenomenal. Parking is available behind the store (a huge plus if you don't want to deal with street parking, or the challenging Trader Joe's Parking Lot), and the cashiers always friendly, just very slow. They always offer you to sample the cheeses, and never rush you out. I love the European feel of this store and will always come here for my fancy cheese needs. Charcuterie boards are on the rise, come here for top tier supplies. read more

There is an ample selection of great cheese and charcuterie. For us, the main attraction are the sandwiches which are always excellent! Well, I did try the Sea Horse and it was GREAT, but I cannot speak to the Garden Tuna. Until I go back and order that, you may have to roll the dice. The California Melt is probably my favorite and my wife loves the Blue Note. I doubt you can really go wrong. They also come with a nice side salad. ok i love this place but lets start with the cons: parking! no where to park i had to park 2 blocks down in hopes i didnt get a ticket. la is big on their strict parking. from the outside it looks dark & closed. lots of good things on the menu. my food came with salad which there was no napkins and utensils. wtf?! worker was nice but extremely quiet & not too helpful. everything looked and tasted good. i got the donatello sandwich. very good but dry. ill come back but ill bring my own napkins next time!! read more

Cute little place with a wide selection of cheeses and European foods and condiments. Also has a small cafe, which is what my review is focused on. My Say Cheese omelet ($19.50) was good, but bland without added salt and pepper. A heavy dose of olive oil was applied to the omelet which helped. A green salad with capers and olives and balsamic dressing was piled on top of the omelet, which was a little unusual. If you don't like those flavors or ingredients, it could ruin your omelet. Fortunately I do like them and they added flavor to the otherwise bland omelet. Bottled drinks from the refrigerated case were the extent of the drinks. I have to say the ordering system was a bit confusing. You can either order and pay at the counter (you may have to wait in line for those folks purchasing from the shop) or order directly with the cook in the cafe but had the cook not spoken up when I walked back to the cafe section, I would have never known. Finally, the nearly 4% surcharge for using a credit card has become an epidemic in L.A. and this resulted in a one star reduction. These surcharges are one of my biggest pet peeves in L.A. and it's always a credit card surcharge or a "wellness" or "employee benefits" surcharge at restaurants in LA. these days and I am tired of it. read more

This is a truly marvelous place to get cheese, carefully curated wine, and gourmet tid-bits. The store outlasted competitors for a reason. Nice sandwiches too, but where Glen and his team really shine is with their charcuterie plates. We had a large one at our New Year's Eve party and it stole the show! We ordered the Griffith Park (turkey sandwich) and the Ortolano (eggplant). Both were super good. Curbside pickup due to COVID, but they had a good system down. The platter was absolutely gorgeous with an amazing selection of cheeses, nuts, dates, apricots and more. The best cheese and accoutrements assortment I've ever had. The quality was astounding. I would go back to Say Cheese for this sandwich. Blue Note - grilled chicken, portobello, basil pesto, melted mozzarella, and bleu cheese served open face. This was an Anna Bella with grilled chicken. Unfortunately, I found the chicken to be very dry. I didn't enjoy this one as much as Anna Bella. Our waiter was so busy that he didn't come to check on us or refill our iced coffee right away, but overall his service was not bad. I used to live walking distance to Say Cheese, and when I stopped in the other day, I realized how much I missed this place. Well, it could have been I was blinded by the orange. Yes, on the top shelf was this cheese I've also been missing. Orange like a ripe cantaloupe -- could it be mimolette? Indeed, it was. The owner offered me a sample. Mimolette. The owner said he loved watching me savor that cheese...so uh, maybe it's a good thing I don't live walking distance any more. Love affair with an expensive forbidden cheese can't end well. Anyhow, the parking is always crazy around here, located next to Trader Joe's, or I'd "visit" more often. You have to be willing to just grin and bear the vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Think of the great selection of cheese. They sell duck fat, some fine wines and other fine gourmet items (fleur de sel, mustards, jam, serving trays.)
