Oh La Vache is located on a busy street of Long Beach but it's such a hidden gem. I preordered online a veggie platter, a small cheese and meat board, some petite toasts, and the cheesemonger's choice for some extra cheese a week before pick up. We came in on a Saturday and was unable to find street parking so as others advised, I had my friend watch the car and drive around as I made my way to the shop. The shop was so cute, it's small but with everything you'd need for a cheese and meat party including breads, canned additions/fish, and wines! I grabbed a fresh loaf of baguette to add to the order. Both trays were ready and absolutely fresh. The honorable cheesemongers overlooking shop were very nice and helpful! One female worker was providing samples for a gentleman when he asked for recommendations and my cheesemonger asked what kind of cheese texture I generally liked and offered to give me a cheese from three different animals, which I thought was absolutely awesome! She even offered to help me carry my trays out. The veggie tray was awesome, a great size, half pickled half not pickled, the dips were both amazing! We got the green goddess and Calabrian chili aioli and both were such a hit at our get together. The peppers are slightly spicy and were so delicious. We loved the variety of cheese and did not have a single cheese we didn't like. The petite toasts with the meat and cheese board is a must! So good and crispy and a perfect size for a bite. So who knew we had a high end gourmet grocery spot on 4th street? I don't buy chunks of cheese so even though it's their specialty, yeah, no. But I do love love love a wickedly good sandwich!! So was recommended to go to this spot and search out their sandwiches. I was so curious that one day after I had that recommendation given to me via a friend on the SWIM team I took myself and my wife down to this cute location. The sandwiches are premade, which makes it fast and easy, and sometimes they even sell out. The staff behind the counter were extremely friendly and we picked up two delightful sandwiches and were on our way. We couldn't be any happier with their delightful sandwiches. We sat in chairs outdoor outdoors on fourth Street and watch the world roll by. It was a delightful date with my wife. Meaning 'Holy Cow' in French (wasn't a Cubs fan growing up, but remember Harry Caray's famous call), Oh La Vache is a gourmet cheese shop in 4th Street Retro Row neighborhood of Long Beach. It was my first time, and didn't know what to expect. Ended up buying more than I expected, to try to reproduce my initial experience in Paris a couple of weeks before. And we got close, plus with a heck of a lot better weather. It's a small shop, with a trio of dedicated ladies efficiently working through a line of customers. I was super happy to see them as busy as they were, being a local business near my neighborhood. Plus it meant the product turns around more quickly, better freshness. My initial thought was to buy a substitute recommended cheese for French Comté, but was told they had it in stock. So bought a half pound of it ($14). Then noticed that they had Beurre de Baratte Butter (250 grams for $17) and Widmer Brick Cheese ($16 for a pound). Of course with the butter, that meant bread so bought one baguette ($5), freshly baked daily by the nearby Hey Brother Bakery (guess where I'm going sometime in the near future). The brick cheese is for Detroit style pizza later in the month. These are all products that can't be found in a supermarket. They use square as the payment processor, which makes it easy to pay and get a receipt to my phone. Always appreciate that when writing. Parking is impossible in this part of town...my wife found a street parking spot to idle a couple of streets down while I quickly bought the stuff. When done, she picked me up and we were home soon after. We ate the baguette with butter and cheese immediately....so, so, so good. read more

I ended up getting the duck prosciutto, mortadella, pepato cheese, and this garlic basil cheese they kept recommending. Oh La Vache is a truly special gem. The shop itself is fantastic, they offer a great assortment of cheeses, including seasonal cheeses. They have an excellent soft cheese assortment! I love the sign inside that says "the holy trinity" for cow, goat and sheep's cheese. But it's the people who really make this place stand out. On Fourth Fridays, they do these raclette snacks - freshly and individually prepared, ooey gooey raclette on fresh sourdough. You can add ham for a dollar more. Let me tell you, this was a heavenly experience. I love raclettes; when I was in Switzerland, I would have a raclette every week. And the one here at Oh La Vache was so good, such high quality cheese, that it took me right back to Switzerland. I absolutely loved it. It's simple, but made with a lot of love. And it's so commendable that they specially prepare it for each customer during our fourth Fridays to promote community I can tell you, they have made me a customer for life. NOTE: it was Sunday and the parking attendant was dutifully checking plates vs payment so use that pay kiosk if you park there. It's a sin that I didn't discover this place earlier! The Hey Brother bread that they stock is some of the most amazing bread ever (I was first introduced to this baker through the Heritage menu). I just wish that they stock more bread, since there have been a few times I went to the store right at opening, and they did not have any ciabatta to spare :( I love that this is a one-stop shop for all my charcuterie/sandwich needs. You are allowed to sample any number of their cheeses that they have displayed so that you can curate the perfect cheese board! I come here for the sandwiches. The offerings are different every day and every one I've tried was better than the last in a very good way! I also enjoy getting the truffle potato chips as I am a huge truffle fan. One thing that stands out about this shop is its service. What to get the dad who has everything for his birthday? Cheese and meat, of course. I was tasked with appetizers for a birthday dinner at home and have been wanting to check out this place for a while so I ordered a small charcuterie board on their website. 4 days notice. Plenty of time. Got a text and email the day it was ready which also was nice. $70 for a small board which sounds pricey but is not for how much you get. It was just four of us but this could easily feed 6-8 people. Pick up was quick and easy. They recommended taking it out of fridge one hour prior to consuming. We did and it was excellent. The nuts and veggies def had a spice to it and it worked well with the board. They do remind you no bread or crackers come with it. So we just picked up a baguette and crackers nearby but they have options in the store as well. Plus you get to keep the metal board as well . Cheese please! So I needed to get some appetizers for a small get-together with some friends and thought a cheese/charcuterie board would be a unique and new offering. I searched for any local cheese shops and came across Oh La Vache. Good: Ordering was very easy on their website, placed an order for pick up the next day. The finished product was fresh and looked beautiful and was a hit at the party. Good variety and presentation. The shop is clean and unassuming. Order was packed up and ready to go when I arrived. Could be Better: Parking, parking, parking. I hate to mark down a place for things out of their control, but parking is terrible. Street parking is very limited. Public parking is available a couple of blocks away. Hours are a bit limited, it would be nice if they were open earlier for larger order pick ups and before the afternoon rush for other businesses in the area. Not a cheese expert, but the medium platter was fairly pricey. Together with a couple boxes of crackers and tip, I paid over $150. No options to choose what you want on the platters, I would have left it up to their expertise any way but I'm sure some folks would be more selective. When I entered the shop for pick up, I didn't feel welcomed. The 2 workers were just chatting with each other and didn't acknowledge me. WOW, this cheese shop on 4th has an incredible deli sandwich game! They typically have a daily sandwich board where you can get sandwiches like a grilled cheese w/turkey, turkey avocado, and various other deli sandwiches. Let me tell you - these daily sandwiches coming in at $10-12 are delightful with great breads, ingredients, cheeses, and meats. It's become a once a week habit here, and there are no regrets...aside from having to up my exercise routine to make up for these extra worth-it calories. A great cheese shop in Long Beach! The ladies behind the counter were both so helpful and accommodating in helping me choose the perfect cheeses for my impromptu picnic. You can order charcuterie to-go but we didn't order ahead of time so we opted for a baguette, a salami and 3 different types of cheeses. We also got their salami sandwich that was on their menu. The salami sandwich was good but not a standout flavor; I did however LOVE the Soppressata salami from the deli. Sooo good. Cheese was all excellent and the baguette was perfect. Oh La La (Vache)! Not to be cheesy but this shop meats my expectations...and more! I ordered their medium cheese tray to share with a group of 8 on a duffy boat outing, as recommended by the staff based on the party size. The plate is pretty big, honestly enough for maybe even 10 people max. They decorate the plate fully and colorfully with gourmet meats and cheese including gouda and brie and garnish it with olives, radish, cauliflower, and even flowers! **Note: the plate does not come with crackers or bread (which I failed to notice), but they do sell fresh baguettes separately! Staff were super accommodating for substitutions. I had to request that they omit the nuts they usually add to the plate (due to guest allergies), and they were more than happy to make that adjustment and even offered a few substitutes, of which I picked their jam. Only 24 hrs notice is required for cheese tray orders which is super fast, and they even finished earlier than my requested pick up time! There was nothing to wine about other than that I paired with this amazing spread. These trays are perfect for any event, and they sell all their items a la carte and also sell smaller picnic boxes. This shop had just opened up so we strolled over "just to take a look." Well, we walked out with 4 different kinds of cheese, lol. Everything just looked so good. We weren't familiar with any of the cheeses but we knew what we liked and just kind of went by the descriptions. I don't remember all the names, but we got: A very runny, super-rich Brie-like soft cheese (my favorite); a very creamy blue cheese (really good) ; a cheddar with mustard and ale called Red Dragon (gotta love that name and it was delish); and a hard, crumbly cheese with a great nutty flavor. The two ladies working behind the counter were very friendly and ready to answer all our questions. The store also carries a selection of crackers and jams/spreads, as well as pastas, sauces, and baguettes. Since they're so new the store felt a bit sparse, but we thought it was very charming nonetheless, and I'm sure they'll fill it out in no time. Their meats are topnotch as well. Always fresh, always delicious. Best mortadella I've ever had is from here. Employees ere are super nice and helpful and with all the pastas, olives, and sauces, you feel like you're in a cute shop in small Italian town and it pretty much is decorated as such.
