First, don't come with more than 4 people. We were told a 50 minute wait. It was our anniversary and my wife loves the restaurant. So we opted to wait. Assuming they know how to seat people, we patiently waited. When it was finally time to be seated, we walked past about 30 empty tables. When asking the "hostess" why they couldn't push anyo of the other tables together, she was rather short saying those tables pushed together make it difficult for our servers to get around. Which 2 tables pushed together takes up less space than 2 apart. The back room was full of empty tables. A business model to stay in business means you turn tables. I'm not sure how leaving the tables empty and not seating helps to keep you in business. Had we left, our waitress would be out $60 tip and the restaurant out $300. Luckily we had Barbara who we had in the past and is a breath of fresh air for the start of our experience. She is such a friendly waitress and helpful. My wife and I have been customers for over 40 years, and missed dining here during the shutdown. We were excited to hear about the reopening and stopped by last Saturday for lunch. Despite ordering immediately, 45 minutes later my wife's stuffed shrimp had still not arrived. Apparently the ticket had never been put in. After an exchange of words between my wife and the young woman manager, we were told to "get out and never come back". I know it was a soft opening and mistakes with orders happen, but another important aspect of managing is the ability to appease an angry customer. You know, like "We're very sorry for the mix up" or "Can I offer you something while you wait". We will certainly respect our instructions never to return, but it doesn't seem like a good business practice to banish loyal long term customers. Honestly, I question whether that manager has the right temperament for the job. read more

Was anxious to get back to this restaurant after their closing due to a fire. Always enjoyed it in past. Greeted warmly on arrival and told 15 minute wait. This is a Long Standing Rocky Hill Restaurant. If your looking for seafood it's your only sit down restaurant in the immediate area. I have been coming here with my family for years. Some items are hot or miss but my favorites are the stuffed shrimp, stuffed sole, shrimp scampi and Poseidon's adventure. I love the salad that comes out for the table to share before your meal. They have a really good creamy garlic dressing and a champagne vinaigrette. They also bring out crackers, breadsticks and bread. And after your meal they bring out a fruit bowl with fresh fruit, which if you don't have room for you can always have them wrap it up so you can take it home. I will say I do miss the Italian almond cookies they used to put in the basket of fruit. With homemade dressings, my favorite was the creamy Italian. This salad was vibrant and colorful. Then came the crispy and flaky pecan crusted halibut on top of couscous. Just left after a disappointing lunch. Not really sure what was happening with the staff, but the service was lacking. That really wasn't the main issue. It was the food. I ordered the Sole Francais. It was so bad I had to send it back. The fish was definitely not fresh. There was a strange taste - not fishy, just strange. I had to return it. They were kind enough to make me a fish and chips, which was super hot! Fresh! My husband ordered the fish and chips and it wasn't fresh - lukewarm. Both Captains Platter were just warm, and the fish sandwich was warm. We had to wave the staff over for tartar sauce (which was no good), boxes to bring food home, and the bill. Steaks were cooked to order and we had that along side the lobster tail. I feel it may be a bit tad pricey. I'd like to see portions come down along with the price if it were up to me. Have both a bar section with tables in it and a separate section with just tables in it I got a hot lobster roll and it was both fresh and delicious. It was also served with both the butter and lemon on the side, which I appreciate because I don't like my lobster rolls soaked in butter (which many places do) The lobster roll came with a side of fries (which were also fresh & crispy), as well a coleslaw, a pickle, and a bunch of different fruit. The one good thing about our visit tonight was the waitress she wasn't perfect but she was trying hard. I ordered Steamers and they were rotten they had a funny smell and when I tasted one it was spoiled. How does this even happen with steamers? Our waitress said she could smell how bad they were when she brought them back to the kitchen. It ruined the dinner. Two hours later I am home with an upset stomach and I can't get the taste or smell out of my mind. This used to be one of our favorite places I always tell people they should try it but not anymore. The cook who sent that plat out should be fired. Besides a quick sorry I took it off your bill no one said a thing, I would have expected management to come by and say something but not a word. My husband and I really wanted a lobster roll for Memorial Day weekend and there were not as many options as when we were on the Shoreline. When we arrived we didn't see it on the menu, however they did say they had lobster rolls available phew. Hubby was getting pretty hangry. The space is nice. A little dated but certainly acceptable. On this particular day not sure if it's always this way, but they seem to have senior citizens as their main clientele. Our waitress was very nice. I was happy with the clam chowder and my lobster roll. What I was especially impressed by was how many extras were included in our meal. Well my family and I andvour friend were at Saybrook Fish House last night on Siles Deane in Rocky Hill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This was the first time and it was a perfect place to be at[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I'm usually very fussy. My kids always get mad at me . Last night we went with 3 children 8, 4 and 3. They were well behaved due to the coloring tablecloth. They spend most of tgeir time drawing and coloring. As we were waiting a nice surprise was seen outside tge building... a lit up " sleigh" came carrying Santa Claus and I believe a Grinch and other. Needlesscto say the children were so excited and I must say us older adults were too. Moving on to our waitress, Barbara, I'm sorry if I'm forgetting her name but I believe it was Barbare that explained how ​ the menuu worked. Or better the dinner worked. It's family style so you get tge salad, veggie, a carb fruit all included with the entree. Barbara was a jewel. So nice to the children above and beyond. We all chose different entrees and my oldest grandson ate most of his. Never seen him eat so much. He had the linguini in red sauce , tgecotger two shared a fish abd chips and the four year olded loved her dads salmon . Lol needless to say so did her father. One of us had the sole and a soup my itger son, sorry I forget mayy have been haddock and whatever he had its was very good and proportion was enough I had the sea scallops cooked to perfection. We ordered mussels as an app followed by our main meals - the app was never delivered - we had to ask for it. It was nice that they did take the mussels off the bill. One of our guests had a shellfish allergy so we asked for baked sole plain and stressed to our server about the allergy. We received crabmeat stuffed sole. By the time the meal was replaced with the plain baked sole, the others guests were finished with their meals so we had to take it to go. Wow! is all I can say first two big crafts of ice water on the table with lemons floating in them , then large basket of assorted breads and crackers with butter, next a huge bowl of salad family style with your choice of dressings , we got an appetizer of steamers that came with a cup of hot butter and a cup of broth, they also had a regular menu and a early bird menu of entrees for 20 and 22 dollars I got the baked white fish with The seafood stuffing and fries, other meals were baked stuffed shrimp with baked potato and salmon with brown rice all delicious they also bought out a bowl of hot fresh cooked vegetables corn on the Cob , squash, broccoli, carrots and green beans all tasty after the meal they brought out a basket of cut up fruit , watermelon, pineapple. Cantaloupe, honeydew melon , grapes and apple and a orange plus a plate with hot wet wash rags to clean your hands , I m from Myrtle Beach SC where we have over 1800 restaurants many good seafood ones but never any that could compare to this ones service . It has been awhile since we dined at Saybrook Fish House. We wanted to celebrate joint anniversaries... our anniversary along with my inlaws and thought it would be fun to take them here. I talked this place up and got everyone excited about the experience I've had in the past with the salad start and fruit basket end....only to be let down and I should say let down needlessly. I will start by saying that although the place could use a bit of spruce up the food overall was good and fresh... BUT....A word to management.... Please consider streamlining your menu options for lack of confusion with your staff. Have a main menu available at anytime and if you want to supplement with lunch or early bird specials do so... AND please make sure your staff is trained. Here is what happened..... Your website doesn't specify specific menus for specific times. We assumed the dinner menu would be available even though we were dining early about 3PM. It's an off time but past lunch and before dinner. We were handed lunch menus.. disappointed that there weren't appetizers listed that we planned to order and also most dinner items not listed. The waitress came and I asked if I could order the seafood combo that was on the dinner menu with stuffed shrimp, stuffed fish and scallops. She said noooo that is on the dinner menu. I was disappointed and started to review the lunch menu again to decide and then she said.. for you, I can see you are disappointed so I will ask them to make it for you but a lunch portion. Given the information I had at the time, I thought that was great and thanked her. Then I asked about the salad and she said oh table salad is for the dinner menu too we do not do that at lunch but you can order a small personal salad for 3 dollars. We all ordered the 3 dollar supplemental salads... I said to my inlaws, I am sorry I guess we should have come a little bit later. We also weren't able to order the stuffed mushrooms or calamari since neither were on the lunch menu and I assumed since the waitress was making "an exception" to get the seafood combo for me, it wouldn't be something allowed during lunch. (since that is the way she put it) We dined and it was good but could have been better if we had the full experience.. no big salad, no appetizers that we planned and no fruit basket. A bread basket that wasn't refilled either which gave us 1 slice of bread each. We assumed we would be asked if we wanted more bread but I guess it was "lunch" at 3pm so that wasn't allowed either. Then.. the waitress comes with the bill. I thanked her for accommodating my seafood combo request as I thought she made "an exception"...and said, your website didn't specify the time for each menu so we assumed we could order from the dinner menu AND then she says... oh you can order from all menus anytime you just need to ask for the dinner menu... What? Did I hear that correctly? I couldn't believe that.. My mother in law said well that was weird.. just doesn't make sense. Basically her accommodation was to give me a lunch portion or the item I wanted on the dinner menu. No one was worried about prices or portions... As a waitress she should be trying to get the bill up so her tip is from a larger total... As a business, you should want your team to sell up and order as many appetizers and add ons as you can to increase the bill. It was a disappointing experience for us because we settled and couldn't get what we planned or have the full experience for my inlaws Then to find out at the end we could of ordered from the dinner menu. I mean, when I asked my question... all she had to do is say, oh sure, you can order from the dinner menu.. instead of no thats the dinner menu.. big difference... 15 minutes for a waitress after being seated, ran out of water waiting for our drinks. The jambalaya "special had 3 shrimp, 4 mussels (1 was just a shell) 1 clam ans about 12 bay scallops. Having never been to Saybrook Fish House, I thought happy hour was a great way to be introduced to the place! I sat in the lounge and had a nice little high top close to the bar. Our waitress-Zoe-was very attentive and helped me feel comfortable. I started with a signature cocktail-the cucumber cosmo. Woo wee it was STRONG!! My buddy ordered the peanut butter cup which had screwball , peanut butter flavored whiskey. I'm not a fish lover, so I ordered the petite filet and my buddy ordered a veggie burger, as he's on a plant based diet right now ‍. My filet was cooked just the way I i liked it and had a side of mashed potatoes. Very flavorful and not too expensive. My one negative take a way is to not order full meals on the high top tables- there's not a ton of room, but we made it work! I'll be back. My overall experience was great! read more

Our server, Janice, was excellent and very friendly and helpful with our choices. We had the clam chowder, crab cakes, the lobster pasta, and the swordfish. Found this place on Groupon so I figured I'd try it out! It's been around for quite a while so it must be decent, right? Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off the Silas Deane Highway is this quaint place. White and light blue siding covers the building as you walk up to it from the private parking lot. Inside is quite cute. Lots of marine themed decor scattered all over the walls with plants placed here and there. A few cool aspects are the brick walls where people have signed their names or written cool quotes on it. So YEARS of autographs are just hanging out right next to you from past diners. I think that was a pretty nice touch. Service: Very good! I think our server's name started with an "M", but I could be wrong. Lol. She was knowledgeable, fun and made some great recommendations based on what we were in the mood for. Food: I went with the tuna steak which was cooked VERY well to my liking and had such a fresh flavor. it comes with wasabi and soy sauce and I substituted the starch for some steamed vegetables. Portion size was okay, but thank goodness for the complimentary bread to fill me up the rest of the way. Lol. Value: Pretty good for a seafood restaurant. We (4 of us) had a very good meal here. We had a late dinner arriving around 8:30 Saturday night. We were seated immediately and the service was excellent all night. I had their house fish chowder (YESSS - love this stuff !!!! Award Winning - fish dinner in a cup). My GF had the special lobster bisque (so so - we are bisque mavens!) and we also had fried calamari and the stuff clam special - both very, very good. I had the baked stuff shrimp ( classic and very good), my daughter had surf n turf with scallops instead of shrimp ( excellent), her BF had the swordfish steak special (great!!) and my GF had a stuff sole special that while nice size and presentation , she didn't care for the sole but the lobster and crab stuffing were excellent.
