Some of the best Birria tacos in Garland, Sazon is well worth a visit to this humble hole-in-the -wall. I got the 3 goat Birria tacos with consommé, rice and beans. Beans are made in house and had that unmistakeable lard flavor that is like crack cocaine. Birria was tender, moist and perfectly shredded, folded with white cheese into tacos that were then dipped in chile and crisped on the grill. Wow - I will see those in my dreams. I put some onions, cilantro, a squeeze of lime and some of the house made ancho salsa on the tacos -- took them to a whole 'nother level of deliciousness! My husband got the Guadalajara Torta, with stewed pork, melted cheese and poblano chiles on ciabatta bread. This Torta was HUGE - enough for 2 meals. Meat was tender and juicy, the poblanos gave a spike of heat and the cheese held everything together. A GREAT Torta! 5 Eat here now stars

Not from Texas. Here on business visiting customers in the area. Came here for lunch. Gentleman who sat me and waited on me was very nice and accommodating. He told me about the Buffett and if I was in a hurry for lunch. I was not. So I chose the menu. Got the flautus. You get 3 for lunch. I did 2 chicken and 1 brisket. They came promptly and had nice presentation with the green verde sauce and cheese and tomatoes. They were good. Nice portion not too big or too small. It came with rice and beans as well. All in all a good experience. The gentleman who waited on me was quite the salesman. Asked me about my visit to Texas and that he would take care of me if I wanted to bring in customers for lunch. Funny. Nice man working hard for his business. He made sure I was happy with everything. I'd go back. Nice little spot. Lots of parking and easy prompt service.

This place is legit. As a recent transplant from the Bay Area, I haven't been that impressed with the food in Dallas but this place is great. Authentic, delicious and fairly priced.

We loved this place! Saw the reviews and had to try it, so happy we did. Family owned and operated, this restaurant is a hidden gem in northeast Dallas. Actually, I think it is Garland. Anyway, the surrounding area is a bit stark but this place is outstanding. The food is authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex. Our food was as good as Meso Maya. We started with the queso and it was the best I ever had. Real cheese, not Velveta, so it is stringy like mozzarella on a pizza. Flavor was outstanding. I had to try the signature Sazon chicken and it was excellent. Chicken was tender and the flavor of the sauce was killer. It's more like a mole but a bit sweeter. The wife tried the chile rellano and it was baked, not deep fried. The sauce was excellent. So much flavor from the chicken and poblano pepper. The restaurant is clean. Restrooms are clean. The service was friendly--the owner stopped by a few times to chat--and the food came out quickly and was hot. Prices are extremely reasonable. This is the type of restaurant that deserves to be supported, more so than the corporate owned places such as El Fenix, so we will be back many times in the future.

Birria Tacos - brisket tacos served with consume, rice and beans. AMAZING

Hands down best Mexican place I have been to in Garland. If you are looking for a place with good white queso, this is your place. We devoured it and had to restrain ourselves from licking the f**king plate clean. There Birria tacos are amazing also.

Is you have not ventured to Garland to try Saxons, you are missing out. This is a wonderful, family owned restaurant where you can tell the owner has put his heart and souls not only into the decor but the recipes and food that's comes out if the kitchen. Wonderful flavors, fresh food. You are greeted as soon as you walk in, usually by the owner himself. If you're not sure what to get, ask!! He will recommend the perfect dish. I had one of their signature dishes that includes chorizo. I mentioned I was not a fan of chorizo when he recommended the dish and his response was, that's because you haven't tried OUR chorizo. They make it in house and it was it in small cubes, not chopped ground like I'm used to. Let me tell you, it was wonderful!! So much flavor, not greasy, no chunks of fat. We ordered the Birria tacos just to give them a try and they were delicious!! Bomb af!! So so good!! And we've tried quite a few in the area!! With construction on Shilo, it's a little extra effort but SOOOOOOO worth it!! Don't let a crowded parking lot discourage you as there are a few businesses in that strip mall that generate traffic, so find a spot and go on in for an amazing authentic meal!!

OMG...Yes! I stopped by randomly in garland and wow. Living in Dallas for ~30 years with a primary diet of salsa and all things Mexican food I thought I had tried the best of the best but then this place pops up! Amazing and surprisingly "fancy" presentation with crazy homemade Mexican tastes! Almost tempting to look at houses in garland now! Lol seriously, if you're in garland or just want some great food, this is a win!

Chile Relleno was excellent. Stuffed with tender brisket and excellent sauce.

Best Chile Relleno ever. Was having an early lunch just after they opened. Must come back.

Signature Pollo Sazon was GREAT! Corn relish, we fought over it. Fantastic and served cold! Where do they get this corn?

"Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican Food," I bet you never thought you would read that phrase. It is also affordable without pretentiousness. If you only want cheap spicy, cheesy, greasy, heavy Tex-Mex, this isn't the place for you but if you are interested in affordable "Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican food," this place is for you! When you enter the parking lot if you don't see the place keep driving through the parking lot all along the storefronts and you will find it! This restaurant is a beautiful cute, clean restaurant hidden in this strip mall/shopping center that my best description would be excellent upscale Tex-Mex. When we went, we were the only couple eating here, but it was only 7:00 PM on a Saturday. The only thing that would make it better would be an exotic selection of Margaritas. It is BYOB. If you want the kind of Tex-Mex you get just about every other Tex-Mex restaurant, be prepared for a fun surprise unless you want the heavy, greasy, cheesy standard Tex-Mex. They serve light, fresh Tex-Mex, and the presentation of the food and the incredibly top-notch ingredients will blow you away and keep you coming back again and again. The first difference, the salsa, it is served warm and isn't tomato based. It is spicy served with thick fresh corn tortilla chips. If you like a lot of tomato in your salsa, then you won't like this because it is light, spicy cooked salsa with a unique Mexican flavor that I've rarely experienced. The refried beans were very tasty and fresh. The Mexican rice was so light and fine I didn't believe it was rice, it is NOT like normal Tex-Mex Mexican rice. No overpowering spice, just enough to enhance and spread the flavor. The white Mexican cheese was much lighter and less pungent than normal cheese used in Tex-Mex. The guacamole is fantastic, I don't like guacamole and I thought it was good and my wife said it was excellent, with crunchy peppers, very fresh and it said it had cilantro (which we don't like) but we didn't get the soapy taste when we usually eat cilantro. It was magic! You must have the Chili Relleño! We had the brisket and cheese which the juicy smoked flavor of the brisket comes through very well because it isn't covered in too much sauce, uniform and beautiful crust and the cheese is a white Mexican cheese that makes it a truly unique dish. You must have the Signature Pollo Sazon which is out of this world tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The house ancho chile honey sauce was great. There isn't an equivalent to this dish in any Tex-Mex restaurant I've ever experienced. You must have the chipotle cheesecake. It is quite a twist, kind of like salted chocolate. You are eating a top-notch cheesecake which is marbled with some chipotle cheesecake with a slight drizzling of chipotle sauce. Order as much as you want and sample the different dishes and ask for takehome boxes! Enjoy it for another meal or two. Once you've eaten here, the taste will bring you back because you can't get "Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican food" any other place AND it is affordable!! They serve breakfast and I'm fairly sure this place is packed during the work week lunch crowd. It is a great place for a Saturday date night!

Delicious green chicken enchiladas, authentic Mexican food.

They were very good with the red sauce and Spanish rice. The beef had a very good seasoning and the chicken had a taste like it had been marinated for a few hours. I had the beef fajitas. The beef was tender, succulent and seasoned well. The only thing that I didn't like was that the fajitas had a sweet taste to it. I believe the sweet taste was from sweet bell peppers or sweet onions, nevertheless, it was too sweet for my taste buds. There was a 45-minute wait, due to how many people were crammed into downtown, trying to find places to eat. I had wanted to come here for a while, and suggested coming here to my girlfriend, who admittedly, "doesn't like Tex-Mex" (I know, I know), and after encouraging her to give it a try, we were pleasantly treated to some very high quality food in a nice environment. Despite being woefully understaffed, to the point that they were out of bowls for the salsa and started serving it in to-go containers, the staff was friendly and helpful, with the manager still making the rounds to introduce himself and check on people's experiences. I really liked the chips & salsa, and so did my girlfriend who is very spice sensitive. We had the, "Julio's Tilapia", which was, "Pan-seared tilapia topped with fresh sautéed baby spinach and jumbo grilled shrimp, finished with a silky spicy chipotle cream sauce. Served with rice and a crisp side salad." and the "GUIS-Ohhhhhh!", which was, "Traditional Mexican beef stew. Served with avocado slices, tomatoes, lettuce, & tortillas". The food was delicious, and I really thought the jumbo shrimp was great, and the Guisoooo (carne guisada) was deeply flavored, and very rich in a way I haven't had before. My girlfriend made sure to flag down the manager to point out what an exceptional meal she thought it was, and mentioned several times how blown away she was, and I quote her as saying, "I was expecting one thing, but I did not expect a foodie experience!". We sat at the bar area, which while not large, has taller tables which is helpful for me. The restaurant handled the huge volume of people well, and the food quality was great.
