I'm one of those kind of people that don't like to go to dives, even if I've heard that their food is excellent. I like to eat in nice surroundings and in a descent neighborhood. However, from what I read about THIS food, it made me change my mind. Not in a great neighborhood and in an old strip mall, we seated ourselves. I think at one time this place was nice but now it needs freshening up. But none of that matters now after the food experience that we had. We started with the rich and delectable Roasted Poblano Cream Soup. Oh man, oh man, oh man - my friends, this is a must try. But that was nothing compared to the next dish of Signature Pollo Sazon. Beans are made in house and had that unmistakeable lard flavor that is like crack cocaine. Birria was tender, moist and perfectly shredded, folded with white cheese into tacos that were then dipped in chile and crisped on the grill. Wow - I will see those in my dreams. I put some onions, cilantro, a squeeze of lime and some of the house made ancho salsa on the tacos -- took them to a whole 'nother level of deliciousness! My husband got the Guadalajara Torta, with stewed pork, melted cheese and poblano chiles on ciabatta bread. This Torta was HUGE - enough for 2 meals. They came promptly and had nice presentation with the green verde sauce and cheese and tomatoes. They were good. Nice portion not too big or too small. It came with rice and beans as well. We started with the queso and it was the best I ever had. Real cheese, not Velveta, so it is stringy like mozzarella on a pizza. Flavor was outstanding. I had to try the signature Sazon chicken and it was excellent. Chicken was tender and the flavor of the sauce was killer. It's more like a mole but a bit sweeter. Wonderful flavors, fresh food. You are greeted as soon as you walk in, usually by the owner himself. If you're not sure what to get, ask!! He will recommend the perfect dish. I had one of their signature dishes that includes chorizo. I mentioned I was not a fan of chorizo when he recommended the dish and his response was, that's because you haven't tried OUR chorizo. They make it in house and it was it in small cubes, not chopped ground like I'm used to. Let me tell you, it was wonderful!! So much flavor, not greasy, no chunks of fat. "Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican Food," I bet you never thought you would read that phrase. It is also affordable without pretentiousness. If you only want cheap spicy, cheesy, greasy, heavy Tex-Mex, this isn't the place for you but if you are interested in affordable "Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican food," this place is for you! When you enter the parking lot if you don't see the place keep driving through the parking lot all along the storefronts and you will find it! This restaurant is a beautiful cute, clean restaurant hidden in this strip mall/shopping center that my best description would be excellent upscale Tex-Mex. When we went, we were the only couple eating here, but it was only 7:00 PM on a Saturday. The only thing that would make it better would be an exotic selection of Margaritas. It is BYOB. If you want the kind of Tex-Mex you get just about every other Tex-Mex restaurant, be prepared for a fun surprise unless you want the heavy, greasy, cheesy standard Tex-Mex. They serve light, fresh Tex-Mex, and the presentation of the food and the incredibly top-notch ingredients will blow you away and keep you coming back again and again. The first difference, the salsa, it is served warm and isn't tomato based. It is spicy served with thick fresh corn tortilla chips. If you like a lot of tomato in your salsa, then you won't like this because it is light, spicy cooked salsa with a unique Mexican flavor that I've rarely experienced. The refried beans were very tasty and fresh. The Mexican rice was so light and fine I didn't believe it was rice, it is NOT like normal Tex-Mex Mexican rice. No overpowering spice, just enough to enhance and spread the flavor. The white Mexican cheese was much lighter and less pungent than normal cheese used in Tex-Mex. The guacamole is fantastic, I don't like guacamole and I thought it was good and my wife said it was excellent, with crunchy peppers, very fresh and it said it had cilantro (which we don't like) but we didn't get the soapy taste when we usually eat cilantro. It was magic! You must have the Chili Relleño! We had the brisket and cheese which the juicy smoked flavor of the brisket comes through very well because it isn't covered in too much sauce, uniform and beautiful crust and the cheese is a white Mexican cheese that makes it a truly unique dish. You must have the Signature Pollo Sazon which is out of this world tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The house ancho chile honey sauce was great. There isn't an equivalent to this dish in any Tex-Mex restaurant I've ever experienced. You must have the chipotle cheesecake. It is quite a twist, kind of like salted chocolate. You are eating a top-notch cheesecake which is marbled with some chipotle cheesecake with a slight drizzling of chipotle sauce. Order as much as you want and sample the different dishes and ask for takehome boxes! Enjoy it for another meal or two. Once you've eaten here, the taste will bring you back because you can't get "Upscale Tex-Mex Mexican food" any other place AND it is affordable!! Unexpected surprise. Came here recommended by a friend. He said great things about it. I stopped on a Friday afternoon not knowing what to expect. As I walked in the place looked "unfinished " like it's under construction. Not many people eating so that made me nervous. I gauge restaurant's by the cuisine and the clientele that eat there. For example being Mexican I have a certain standard for what "I think" makes great Mexican food. Depending on my background experience and what part of Mexico the food style comes from, I'll have an open mind on what to expect. I have been to Sazon three times now since my original post and I have to say that this place is going downhill. My fiancé and I went last night. The restaurant was completely empty. The owner came up and took our order of an appetizer, and two entrees. Upon getting our appetizer I knew something tasted funny, we put it to the side as our entrees came rather quick. I took a bite of the queso fresco that covered my Flautas and nearly gagged. It was sour!! I had my fiancé try it to make sure I wasn't going crazy and he immediately spit it out. We called the owner over and explained that the cheese is sour and old and instead of offering to prepare a new meal he said he would bring us fresh queso to sprinkle on the existing meal that was covered in the old queso. When we declined he said we could leave. I really wanted to like this place as I had a great experience the first time. I wont be returning, but I do wish them the best. read more

Alright, so here we go... so I just came from this hidden gem tonight, and I am transformed. I was trying to figure out what to eat, and found this place on Yelp. I personally like lime in my guac but I know that's not really how Mexican restaurants do it. Needless to say, I ate the entire plate of guacamole. It was really good. When I ordered the guacamole I went ahead and ordered one of their house specials, the Pollo Sazón. *disclaimer: if you're in a rush to eat, this isn't the place for you, but the wait is 100% worth it* The Pollo Sazón arrives, and I was already impressed. The presentation was immaculate and you just don't get that from restaurants anymore. I was so excited to dig in, and when I did, I had no idea how to stop. There's a ton of flavor going on with the whole entire dish. There was a flavorful corn casserole, lightly seasoned rice and carrots. The chicken was incredibly tender and filled just right with chorizo, and cheese and topped with this flavorful and slightly spicy glaze. The words don't do this justice though, you must try it for yourself. More people should definitely know about this place. Today my friend and I came for lunch. We were greeted at the door by the manager. Right off the bat I was impressed with the friendliness! The menu is on a large black board that is brought to the table. From reading the menu, it is obvious this is not a run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex restaurant. Accompanying the entree are sides of deliciously flavored Corn Casserole , sautéed squash, and rice. The fish was cooked to perfection with a beautifully browned crust. We both agreed we would order this entree again. The owner/chef came to our table to introduce himself and to see if we were enjoying our meal. We assured him we were, and would be coming back with our husbands. If you're expecting Tex-Mex, this is not the place for you. However, if you want true made from scratch authentic Mexican food, then this is the place! The only thing going against this restaurant is it is in a little known location in a strip center located on Kingsley at Shiloh Road (in the northwest corner ) in Garland. There are no other restaurants in the area. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and very clean. Their background music was actually kept to a level where you could enjoy your conversation! The chili relleno is my favorite, as it's got the perfect amount of breading/filling with a excellent sauce. It comes with rice and beans that you can tell are homemade, and fresh made tortillas. During brunch, try the house coffee drink (that I forget the name of!) that has chocolate and cinnamon. It's delicious yet not too sweet! There was one evening I arrived and they were setting up for a wedding reception and weren't technically open. However, they assured me they could make an order to go and were extremely apologetic. They were so accommodating when they didn't have to be, and it is a big indication of how much they care about their customers. Finally, I found a true, and authentic Mexican restaurant that brings us the flavors of Jalisco, Mexico. Upon entering the restaurant, place was very clean and had business. I was then met with the heat of the place, the ac was off or out. They had floor fans going all around the restaurant. The hostess he was very friendly and led me to a table. He went and retrieved a Big Chalk Menu board . Which was pretty neat to me to see what they had to offer. This sounded like a good idea. We door dashed some to our house. We order 2 fajita plates, some chicken flautas.... Chips and salsa and queso. The fajitas, the actual beef was good, not great, but that's fine. The homemade tortillas were not very good. The chips bag smelled rank. It's like they burned the oil and just keep using it, the chips tasted like lighter fluid. The salsa had no flavor... the rice and beans were also bland. For a fajita plate, it's usually accompanied with some sort of cheese or sour cream or pico and guacamole. None of that was there. The queso while using 4 great natural cheeses had 0 flavor. I mean Idk if they use salt or not but I'm really dissappointed. I never leave bad reviews.... But this was just absolutely terrible.
