This is a very easy going place. None of that predatory behavior I dislike at some other furniture stores. If you want some help, just ask for it, otherwise you are free to browse in peace. When I did decide to buy my couch, the experience was very pleasant. My sales guy Kelly, was most helpful and informative. It wasn't until six months later when the frame on the couch started squeaking, that I would see the depth of this quality. I called with the issue, and Plummers arranged to have the couch replaced with a new one. I used to think Plummers had really nice looking furniture, but then I got into woodworking and started to notice all these different things... The look of their furniture is modern and generally pretty decent, but the workmanship (or lack-of) is something else... In today's world of cheap laminate furniture, Plummers excels in making them look nicer than they actually are. So this places Plummers in a middle of the field in terms of price and quality. It is a step up from even cheaper furniture like Target or those random "going out of business" furniture stores; but it is way below real furniture stores like Room and Board or Crate and Barrel... It's not even as well made as IKEA... But if you're incline to buy at Plummers, here's what I would suggest: 1. Open the doors / drawers... Does it operate smoothly? Does it shake from side to side? Do you think it'll hold after 50 times of opening/closing? Are the drawer boxes well made? 2. Look at the edges... because most of their items are laminate, the corners and edges are the most easily flawed / damaged... especially for a dark piece. 3. Look at the lines... if you're buying at Plummers, you probably want a modern look; and that is all about straight lines and symmetry. Are the drawer doors parallel? Do they have a smaller gap somewhere? Are the lines of the doors continuous or is one a few millimeters off? 4. Look behind the piece... how are the backs attached? Are they simply nailed in? Will they last? In this respect, I'm like Steve Jobs... even though I can see it, I still want it to be beautiful. After this thorough test, I hope you'll be able to find a good piece... but most likely, you'll go shop somewhere else. read more

I absolutely love, love, love Plummers. I have been shopping at Plummers for 20 years. They carry gorgeous, modern furniture that lasts. Plummers has an excellent price/quality match-up: reasonable price for good quality. They have various design lines so that as I have been able to upgrade my decor, Plummers has had the next level of design and quality for me. I furnished my very first apartment with their low-cost line of furniture. For years, I admired some of the nicer tables and shelving, and eventually moved up. The prices had not become exorbitant like some stores. And the quality holds up unlike some of my Ikea purchases. I have had good experience with the delivery service on several occasions with both delivery and setting up furniture. They take away the boxes, give me time and space to inspect the final product before I sign off, show up when they say they will, keep me posted about their schedule on the day of delivery with a positive attitude about my calls to check on them. In the store, I usually like to look around and find what I want myself. Then I try to find a sales person to write up my purchase. Often someone will offer to help me, and if I decline they politely go away. I appreciate not being trailed around the store like someone who is going to stuff a couch in my pocket. When I do need assistance the sales staff have usually been helpful and professional. Once in a awhile over the years, I have been upset by being passed over for service when I am clearly waiting. Then I just leave and return another day when the staff may be less harried, or I loudly complain, depending on my level of furniture urgency. read more

I was looking to replace my sagging sofa, which I had bought from Plummers over 10 years ago. I was browsing online and was impressed with the selection. Some of the styles are comparable to those found at Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel, but for a few hundred dollars less. I called Plummers, and spoke w/ Steve who was really helpful. He let me know that they didn't have the model of the sofa in their showroom, but had swatches of the different fabrics available. He also let me know that it would take 6-8 weeks for delivery and a deposit of 25 percent. I went to the store today to look at fabric swatches. I was initially interested in the color of the sofa shown on their website. Steve was great in telling me that sometimes the colors on the website look different in person, and he took the time to find the actual swatch that corresponded to the one shown the website. I was surprised that it looked totally different! I ended up picking out another color and fabric. Thanks Steve. read more

As "one inch punch" experienced, the three times I went there (that was a big mistake in itself) the sales staff we dealt with were extremely rude. We went with our friends and were treated like we weren't going to buy anything so why waste their time (we did end up buying some great looking chairs from there). When I picked up my chairs, the guys who worked in the back to give me my chairs were very unprofessional and didn't seem to treat the chairs I had spent a large chunk of change on with much care. The furniture does look great but some of it looked like Ikea-quality (not that its a bad thing, but something to be forewarned about). I think this store could be so much more if the customer service was drastically improved (shopped very early 2008). read more

Sells modern furniture and the design is extremely nice and sleek. Staff is simply there to put your order in and process your transaction. Didn't get that warm, friendly vibe from the staff. If I wasn't in love with the designs I probably wouldn't go there as my first choice. The delivery fee is a little shy of $100 and the set up fee is around $50 so we opted to pick up the furniture ourself and set it up ourself. The product was pretty banged up with chipped paint everywhere. For this price I would assume it would be flawless. I wouldn't go as far as exchanging it because I know it'll be a pain to bring everything back and then get a new set and taking the chance that it'll be the same. See attached pictures. Plumbers is a great store for well priced modern furniture. It is by no means cheap...if that's what you're looking for enjoy your time at Ikea. And it is by no means expensive. It is a great balance between the two. I bought my own place a little under two years ago and spent a lot of time shopping around the LA area and quickly found Plummers to have a great selection of items on their floor. Most places have a limited showroom and push you toward their catalogs. For me, I can't commit to buying something unless I can feel the material and use it first so this is where Plummers really shinned. I ended up getting a sectional sofa along with a desk here and plan on getting a bedroom set in the next couple months. My experience has been decent. I love the items they carry but I am not a fan of the service. First off, the sales people judge you as you walk in the door. If they don't think you are some who is going to purchase anything, they will flat out ignore you. It has happened to me just about every time I've been in there, including the times I made purchases. I had to scour the floor to flag someone down to help me and even then sales person wandered off after answering my question.... that is until I whipped out my credit card. Poor customer service and pricey with delivery and assembly. If you don't need a whole set and are looking for single pieces of furniture, go to HomeGoods and pay much less and you are able to take assembled pieces home right upon purchase. Clay and the staff offered exceptional customer service. Our transaction was handled flawlessly, and our purchase was scheduled for a prompt delivery. On our scheduled delivery date, the drivers called to let us know of their arrival time. They were professional, courteous and timely with assembling the desk setup. We recently visited this establishment and the minute we walked in a person was there to greet us and to open the door. She then directed us to a very nice sales lady named MARESA GAEBEL. Maresa asked us how she could help us and we told her we just wanted to look around. She smiled and told us no problem and if we had any questions just let her know. At that point we were able to walk around and check out the merchandise ( unlike Ashley's Furniture where an agent was assigned us and was constantly looking over our shoulder and presenting sales pitches) and we totally enjoyed this. But when we did have a question we would just motion to Maresa (who was standing at the check out counter) and she would come down to us immediately. Also at check out Maresa did some special wrapping for us as we were in the process of making an out of state move (which we just did and that is why I now have time to post this review). So over all we really want to thank Maresa for her great professionalism and all her help. We will definitely buy more merchandise from her store (but online) and also inform our California friends of how great her store is. Ordered a bed set that came in complications with the manufacturer, it's took about 3 weeks longer for it to be delivered to my new home but thanks to Clay and his follow up process I was updated everyday with what was going on, and even gave me a 10% discount after the sale. Quality furniture, awesome clean scandinavian design, and unique pieces you're not going to see in some one's apartment or dorm room. Although the stuff's not necessarily cheap, it is a solid value. Beware! We drooped about $2,500.00 in one night only to have our bed frame break in about a month. They said it was our problem. I had to argue like hell to get them to fix it as it was defective. I can't say enough about the customer service from Pierre and Mariela (sp?). They are gracious, patient, knowledgeable, and they made shopping for furniture seem easy. Ordering many pieces of furniture is nerve wracking and hard on the bank account, but having the right guidance is crucial. Who wants to buy online?! Sight unseen?! Here you can lounge, feel, pat, wobble to your heart's content. There is even delivery for a flat fee. Perfect. I found a good selection of the styles that I like at very reasonable prices. I was very happy with the quality of the furniture. What stood out was the service provided by Clay. He introduced himself when I entered the store and told me he was happy to answer any questions. He never hovered and was never pushy. When I was ready to ask a question he immediately followed up with me. As we wondered around the store a salesman approached us, asking if we had any questions, I replied "We're looking for a desk.." He nodded but said nothing back to me, and walked away... I thought he was going to retrieve a catalogue to show us further options. He never returned to help or check-in with us- he went back to his desk and avoided us. As we walked out of the store we passed the entire sales team, about five people, not one of them said "goodbye" or thanked us for coming in. I was shopping in the surrounding area and decided to check out this store for the first time since our interior style incorporates a lot of Scandinavian touches. The moment I walked in, the guy at counter declared in a condescending and overtly irritated voice, "We're closing!!" I won't be back. --Not that I would have expected them to stay open to accommodate... but a polite "hi, ma'am, we're about to close but we'll be open tomorrow at ___" would have been appropriate. My husband and I needed to purchase a new sleeper sofa. I did a lot of research online and found one at SD that we really liked. We went into the Pasadena store and were helped by Steve S. They only had two sleeper sofas in the store and they didn't have the one we saw online. Steve said they have a lot of room, but corporate doesn't always send them everything. He ordered the sofa for us so we could see it in the store before we purchased it. Unfortunately, it would take a week for it to get there. We waited the week and I called him on the day we were supposed to come in. He said they were too busy and asked if we could come in in 3 days! This was quite annoying. We had already been a week without a sofa. We really tried to find something else we liked better. The guy who helped us at Crate and Barrel was really nice and I wish they had something we liked more. Steve ending up calling back the next day and saying they could have it out on the floor that day. We went and looked at it and purchased it. We were told it couldn't be delivered until Friday, which was almost another week later. The exact delivery date was put on our paperwork. Steve said we would get a call in Thursday letting us know the time on Friday. When the call came on Thursday, they said Steve had entered it as Saturday, not Friday. This was also annoying. We received the sofa and love it, but their customer service at that store is not up to par. It didn't seem like they were busy, but Steve kept saying they were too busy to fit us in for the viewing and delivery. read more
