What a wonderful experience! We were a group of nine, including two little ones. The service could not have been better. Not sure what the people who wrote bad reviews ate, but everything we ordered was hot, fresh and delicious! The garlic rolls were so good, as were the zucchini fries. I ordered the chicken piccata, it was perfect! For dessert I had the cappuccino mousse pie. It wasn't my favorite, but not bad. The portion sizes are crazy huge. It was a bit more expensive than I'd anticipated, but then again, we all took home leftovers, so I guess you could say we got two meals for the price of one. We will definitely be back! read more

The presentation was really cool, and our server was absolutely great! I got the Chicken Alla Vodka, which sounded amazing, but unfortunately the pasta was a little disappointing. It seemed overcooked and was splitting apart, so it just didn't have the texture I was hoping for. And I have to say... the Caesar salad was seriously lacking dressing. That salad was THIRSTY! Great Expectations. A slippery slope that can go both ways. Today at Scarpino's, disappointment was the end game. There were flaws exposed that were unfortunate but avoidable. The service was great, the ambiance during the day is bland, the view out of my window stark and dry. A night time setting should vastly improve the general vibe. Parking is free, plentiful and close. Located on Van Dyke near the highway overpass in a strip center. I came for lunch to try out an interesting menu. I ordered the Fried Zucchini with Marinara, the Carpaccio de Filetto and the Cacio de Pepe for Two as my meal. The Zucchini came first and they were delicious. Hot and tasty bites that went very well with the marinara. Oddly enough they turned out to be the star of the show, the best part of the meal. The Beef Capaccio was a disaster. The beef was frozen, stuck together, tough to cut with a knife and extremely difficult to put on the bread. The bread completely shattered with the first bite so that you had to eat the beef with a fork, pile the greens, cheese, capers and arugula on with your hands using the bread as a crouton. So, execution is an issue. 4 hours later at home it was absolutely delicious, but inedible real time at the table during lunch. By the way, it is the servers responsibility to make and serve this dish. What the heck are they thinking? A close up picture shows how the beef outer layer is frozen and discolored. Maybe serve this on a warm plate?? Give it time to thaw? Well, time for the main event, tableside Caccio de Pepe with the pasta mixed in a cheese wheel. Looks great!! But also many flaws, especially at lunch. The whole process from when the server exits the kitchen with your bowl of cooked pasta to when you stick a fork in it is 5 to 6 minutes of pomp and circumstance. Everybody likes the show but in the end I was eating a bowl of bland and barely warm pasta. By the 3rd bite it was cold. Flaws. The cheese block was so cold that the scraping of the cheese was time consuming and difficult. Using Everclear imparts no flavor. We all know it's cognac, brandy or even grappa. They need to shorten the length of time your pasta sits waiting in a cold metal bowl during the process. Maybe some type of final touch or topping on the finished dish for flavor and presentation. I took mine home, added some seasoning to make it better. Unfortunate that I had to buy 2 servings of this dish. Last was the Cappuccino Mousse Pie. That was fantastic! Great textures and flavors, a gastro treat. There are a lot of interesting dishes on the menu and I would like to try their pizza. A return despite the issues is probable. It was a bad day and maybe we learned something. Certain dishes are not best suited for lunch and might need extra attention to be properly executed. read more

Man, we really wanted to like this place, because we love Italian food and loved the restaurant that was in this spot before. Overall, the ambiance was nice and staff were friendly, but it was pretty hot in the space, and we were a bit uncomfortable. Our chicken parmigiana was just okay, and the sauce was nothing special either. The rigatoni we got was good though, but nothing super good or special. We thought the food was around a 3* level, but when we accounted for the pricy nature of the meals, it overall was a 2* experience for us. We're hopeful it will get better though and we can try again sometime. read more

But they totally lost me when the menu read that there was a $2 up-charge to switch from a side of spaghetti to a side on penne. Considering that their pasta is not homemade, I wondered why the penne was worth $2 more than spaghetti. Did they have to open another box/bag to serve it and it costs $2 to do that? Also, I'm not a fan of eating salad greens that look like they came out to f a badly weeded lawn, so I asked for my side salad to be a Caesar salad instead. Of course, another up-charge. I guess romaine is much more expensive than mixed, hard to get on your fork greens. Will we go back or recommend to our friends? Doubtful. Let's start with ambiance - No major changes from when it was Nabruzzi's. Some paint, updated decor, window into the kitchen, etc. Layout is the same. Not super upscale, and much nicer than the corner pizza shop. Moving on to food - Ordered meatballs as an app, cheese pizza, and a house salad. Meatballs were ok, not cooked in the sauce, just had sauce poured over them and chunks of cut up mozzarella. Ricotta would have been better. Meatballs and sauce were barely warm. Despite ordering them as an appetizer, they arrived after the pizza. (execution error by the kitchen). Salad was ok, just arrived pre dressed (waiter never asked what dressing) Way too much dressing as well. Pizza was just bland. Was expecting more seasoning, crispier crust and a blend of cheeses. What we received was a barely cooked pizza with run of the mill tomato sauce and cheese. Just disappointing considering the premium prices. Last, the service - Hostess was excellent, seated us promptly at the pizza bar. Waiter offered garlic rolls and water to start while we looked over the menu. Garlic rolls were good (lots of garlic). Ordered a bottle of wine and waited for our food. Salad was out quickly, pizza arrived next, followed by our lukewarm appetizer meatballs. Our waiter was nice enough to pack to go boxes and our leftover wine for us. Overall just a disappointing experience. Was really looking forward to trying it out. The place is Instagramable with irs beautiful ceiling treatment and the lounge nook near the wine wall. We were a large party, so we had a room that had a literal garden on the ceiling. Our waitress, Maddie was a Star. She paced everything beautifully, made sure we knew the story behind the chef, and even happily answered questions, got refills and bread. The food was delicious! I ordered the Zucchini Fritte and chicken Parmagiana. The batter on the zucchini was so light and crisp. It was delicious. The chicken Parmigiana was nicely done, though i prefer the chicken to be a bit crispier. All in all it was an amazing birthday for our Mina! The food here is just okay. The prices are a little high ($21 for a 12 inch pizza) but the portions are large. I would be fine to pay the prices if the food was better... even if the portion size went down. It was similar to an Olive Garden to me. Just subpar "Italian," nothing authentic or that would make me want to come back. My party tried the calamari and zucchini fritte to start. The zucchini were bland. The calamari was the best part of the entire meal, typical calamari appetizer. For my entree I had the pesto gnocchi. The portion was huge, it looked like an entire package of gnocchi. But the sauce hardly had any flavor. So yeah, it's nice that you get a ton of food, but if it's bland does it even matter? It's too bad, because the inside is really cute. read more

Came here to try since the grand opening was on April 1. I must say in general if you are looking for good authentic italian food in a great atmosphere this is your place. The owners all came up to the table and introduced themselves and the server Savannah was excellent. She was on top of everything. Had a long conversation with the owner Rob about the concept. You can definitely see his passion in this place. We started with Nona's meatballs and the Margarita pizza. Both were great. The meatballs were perfect without the over taste of fennel as well as not being overpacked with breadcrumbs. The pizza was amazing, the sauce was so fresh. We also got the Alfredo that is flambéed in the Parmesan wheel. This was not only a great meal for more than 2 people but also an awesome show. This will be a new date night spot for us. Tried this new Italian restaurant for lunch- definitely had some big shoes to fill after Nabruzzi. The crispy calamari was nicely cooked but needed a little more flavor. Mussels were overcooked. Pasta dishes were very good, and the lunch specials and portion sizes made it worth it. Service wasn't the best and felt a bit slow, but overall the food showed promise. Decided to try based on reviews and left feeling the reviews I read were fake. Ordered Calamari appetizer for $16.00 and we laughed at how little was on the plate. I said to my wife, "whose is this, mine or yours?" They have a wood fired pizza oven, nice. They don't cook the gluten free pizza in it and they don't tell you they don't cook it in there. I believe it went under a heat lamp in the kitchen. My wife's pizza was raw on the bottom and the meat balls on it looked like dog food and not Nonna's meatballs like we were expecting. I had the chicken marsala. The chicken was not pounded flat which is always a bad sign. The menu said, served with broccoli; yes, 1 sprig of it. Lastly, it was served in a bowl and had enough sauce for my wife to ask me, "how's the soup?". This was our first visit to Scarpino's - Lutz, and we were very impressed. Our table of 4 shared the Calamari, the Meatballs, and the Spinach, Sausage, & Beans appetizers. The Calamari was OK, the Meatballs and sauce were outstanding, and the Spinach, Sausage & Beans appetizer was thoroughly enjoyed by our gluten-free guest. Sophie, our server, was very pleasant & attentive, and she kept our meal at a comfortable pace. Our entrees of Chicken Parmigiana, Pork Piccata, and Tuscan Salmon were perfectly prepared and served hot. I personally would give more than 5 stars for their excellent red sauce. It's the best that I've eaten in many years. We've recommended this restaurant to a number of our friends and neighbors. It's well worth the drive from Tampa up to Lutz for a great Italian meal. read more

Scarpino's took over the old Nabruzzi location. Atmosphere and service were great. Food, not so much. Nothing was terrible, was just bland, especially for Italian. I had the Lasagna (an Italian staple that should be easy) and it was greasy, loaded with cheese and very little meat. The description says "layers of beer and Italian sausage bolognese ". Not sure what happened to those layers. My with had stuffed shells and a side of Italian sausage. It was fine, nothing special. Our friends the Spaghetti Tutto Mare in white sauce. Again, the sauce was very bland. The mussels were super tiny and everything tasted frozen. Garlic nots are okay. The Carpaccio was great. We noticed that the majority of the staff were young people / kids. Including the majority of the kitchen. Maybe this had something to do with the food quality? They have a couple of locations. They are new in this location, hopefully they figure it out otherwise they will not last. Word spreads quick. read more

We returned to Scarpino's to try other menu options and found each time we've returned the staff are as outgoing and personable as the last. The food is always made to order and the results have been excellent. There hasn't been one item with which we haven't been extremely satisfied. This time our server was Sophie and she was exceptionally accommodating and helpful. From the wine choice to adding or subtracting ingredients in our meal she went out of her way to ensure our order was perfect. All of the servers are very well trained and Sophie was no exception. We'll continue to frequent Scarpino's with their outstanding service and food. read more

I walked in and was immediately treated like royalty. Everything from the lighting and ceiling art to the white tablecloths and pleasant servers made this place feel both homey and fancy simultaneously. I ordered the chicken Alfredo and could not get enough. It was not to heavy like some other ones can be. The grilled chicken was delicious and well seasoned and the pasta tasted fresh. Overall this place is like a 2/5 for me. I'll preface this with saying that they did comp my eggplant parm meal so I appreciate that. The restaurant looks nice and definitely is brighter than the last place that was at this location. Glass of wine was fine. To start, staff seems a bit immature and unprofessional. The garlic knots they bring out are unpalatable, the garlic is just scooped out of a jar- it was just not good at all. I ordered the eggplant parm and almost choked on the cheese. There was no crispiness or crust on the eggplant as described in the menu, it was all soggy and bare. Additionally, the dish only included approximately 2 little slices of eggplant and like half a box of spaghetti. The spaghetti had absolutely no flavor and the sauce was just plopped on top. While they did comp my food, the dish costs $25!!! That is a lot of money for something of such low quality. I hate to leave a bad review, but I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

This is a new Italian restaurant where Nabruzzi Trattoria was located. What an impressive improvement! First of all, from the entry into the restaurant, a friendly greeting from a manager, to the vastly improved interior decor, beautifully designed greenery from the ceiling, a floral theme in the "Red Room" to lighting that makes you feel welcomed and in an actual Italian setting! Our server , Brielle, on both visits, has a smile that makes you happy to be there! She explains all the dishes, spotlights special flambé dinners and appetizers and is quick to notice your drinks need refreshing, to complimentary garlic knots! Hand fired stone oven pizzas are excellent and all the food is plentiful, hot and delicious! Weekdays they have lunch specials, my next visit will be lunch! Wow, what a delicious meal from start to finish! We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. He got a complimentary cannoli for his birthday dessert. This wasn't your average cannoli; it was different from the usual in that tasted like it had cinnamon in the dough. Even my husband who normally doesn't like cannolis loved this one. We tried Scarpino's for the first time last night, and we left genuinely impressed, not just by the food, but by the people. There was a very large party in the back room, which caused a delay in getting our meals. Our waiter let us know right away, and when we asked about timing, the manager came over to speak with us. Their transparency and sincerity meant a lot to us, and we truly appreciated how attentive and respectful they were of our time. They even offered to comp our meal (completely unnecessary, but very kind), which we declined. Ethan and Patrick took such great care of us! They were warm, professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to interact with. The manager was just as thoughtful and accommodating. You can tell this team really cares about their guests, and that level of service does not go unnoticed. We're grateful for the experience and will absolutely be back. Arrived at 5:50 for 6:00 reservation and we had to wait til 6 to be seated. No other parties came in or left, kinda weird. I ordered chicken Marsala. Pan was too hat, chicken was over "seared" inside was fine. Mushrooms were so finely chopped I wasn't sure they were mushrooms. No taste of Marsala and sauce was like a gravy.
