While the dishes here are quite pricey for lunch it's a great spot to eat outdoors on a nice day. There is lots of shaded spots as well as indoor dining if you prefer. So my option about this location ( spectacular, exceptional, outstanding and all out amazing ). We took a friend here for her birthday and our service and food was exceptional and beyond expectations. Our sever "Lady" took really good care of us along with server "Jackie and the G/M Joe". So the food OMG was amazing, starting with two delicious appetizers, we had conch and calamari. The calamari was mostly rings ( which most people like ) and the conch was prepared just right. I had the filet which was cut into a 10 ounce size, requested by me. It was prepared exactly the way I requested and the veggies and mashed potatoes was a nice complement to my meal. My wife had the key west snapper and she gave me a taste and it was exceptional, it also was prepared well and better than any other place I've tried it. The portion was a really generous size and my wife was very pleased with her meal. Our friend had the honey bourbon salmon and she said that it was the best salmon that she had. The ladies also had cocktails, my wife had a generous pour of the Chardonnay and our friend had the island margarita. And since it was our friends birthday and none of us are fond of restaurant deserts but Joe recommended the sticker toffee. When I say that we all fell in love with it and we all will get it every time we will visit. There were no complaints and everything was carefree. After reading many good reviews we decided to come give Michael's Grill a try and the reviews were spot on. I got the Blackberry duck and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone. Perfectly cooked, moist and seasoned well. The calamari was also very good, with a sweet chili sauce. Service was good, both waitress and hostess were very helpful. Clean restrooms. Looking for a bite on my way home I found myself at Michael's. It's likely been 10 to 15 years since my last visit. In the plaza on N. Dale Mabry next to Black Rock, Michael's is a neighborhood favorite with good food, quick service, a pleasant and couteous staff and plenty of free parking. Obviously, convenience like that is an asset to any business. They have since added on another dining room and still boast a great outdoor covered dining area. The Bisque was off point today, lukewarm and with a lumpy spot of flour, just careless. The taste was good. I tried the Zuchini Sticks and they disappointed, again I think just careless or in a hurry. The potential was there but they were obviously stuck together in the fryer and pried loose and slightly over cooked. The Tower Roast Beef Sandwich was delightful. Everything about it was spot on. Pefect bread, warm, a bit crunchy but pliable, perfectly seasoned and cooked roast beef. The exact amount of Jus needed. Filled me up nicely. Today's mis-haps felt unusual, in the past I remember flawless performances so I do not know how frequent that is now. Memories I have include awesome sandwiches, great pasta, excellent seafood and a mouth-watering mushroom risotto. My visits stopped when the Wine shop I frequented next door changed a long time ago. There are new owners, they are always closed when I come by and I do not know if they still have an arrangement with Michael's. I used to buy a bottle at the shop and drink it with my meal. We went here for the first time this weekend. It was amazing. The server was very attentive and friendly. The food was INCREDIBLE. We had the pasta and salmon with rice. I was pleasantly surprised. I've lived in this area about 7 years now and have always drove past Michael's grill but never tried it until yesterday. It's a hidden gem that people need to know about. It has that mom and pop neighborhood feel. It's a smaller inside but has ample seating outside too. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The menu is a decent size and they have a lot of offerings. We came here for a special occasion and I love the personalized touch. I would recommend making a reservation btw! I started off with the sangria and it was a nice size. The flavor was delicious and it hit the spot. For dinner I got the Tuscan salmon over goat cheese Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious! I always forget this place is here. It's been around for decades. Went in for lunch date after a massage and we were pleasantly surprised. It's set up like a cute cafe. Some seats outside and inside. We picked a table next to the kitchen and I ordered an Andrea bubbly cocktail. I love a good crab bisque. I will be dreaming of this and ordering it often. It was a delicious soup chock full of crab. This is the best place you dont know about. Legitimately - if this place was in Hyde Park you'd know all about it (and it would probably be twice as expensive). My wife and I went there with my parents on a Thursday night, and (almost) everything we ordered was spot on. My steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were all delicious, most appetizers were crowd pleasers across the board, and even the bread they served when we sat down was excellent. The one dud was the "bubble bread" appetizer which was just... meh. Not "bad" - because it's cheesy bread with marinara sauce - just kinda basic. But that did not take away from how good everything else was. Even the house chardonnay drew rave reviews (but since I dont drink wine, I cant attest to that. The Martinis were excellent though!) Bottom line, I can't recommend this place enough - it might take a 20 minute drive from south/center Tampa, but it's well, we'll worth it. read more

I like to give a balanced review, so I will give a thumbs up for the hostess finding me a table on Mother's Day weekend (Friday) late afternoon and the server who acknowledged me after sitting in the corner largely ignored after 12-15 minutes. This happens sometimes when you dine alone. So that is my thumbs up. Now... Let's put it this way, I left after the appetizer, and most of my drink, sacrificed and left behind. My entree order was never taken, despite the menu left on the table. The soup lukewarm, and the special bread, waited for to share with soup that was supposedly fresh but really seemed stale, dry and cold. I may have misunderstood waiting for it didn't mean being warm from the oven. The crab bisque (I am a crab snob from Maryland and know my way around a crab) was full of crab specks but okay on taste. There are other choices probably better to try. My recommendation is that there are many more restaurants who can offer better service and experience. Since I didn't get an entree, I can't speak on food beyond soup and their version of bread. But if you want so-so, and are local to Carrollwood, maybe this is a place to try. I've dined at Michael's Grill many times and it's past time I posted a review for them. Located on Dale Mabry in the heart of Carrollwood, Michael's Grill is easy to find, easy to park. I highly recommend making a reservation, they are not a huge restaurant and it fills up quickly. They don't have a true area for waiting customers to hang out, but they rarely seem to need it, honestly, the place runs pretty efficiently. Once, though a table of older ladies just would NOT leave, despite many attempts and nudges of the staff to get them to do so, and we had a bit of a wait on the bench outside. It was a nice night, no worries. Anyway, the food is very good. Always fresh, well prepared and at a good price, we have never been disappointed by anything we chose at Michaels Grill. One of my favorite items is the Island grouper and the Wild Fish spread. The servers are very good, we've always had excellent experiences with them. read more

I went because it was my boyfriend's birthday and I wanted to go somewhere nice but also close to the house. The staff was lovely. The drinks were fabulous! I would agree with their menu that they have the best espresso martini in town. Now for the food.... we got conch fritters to start and they were flavorful and perfectly fried with a delectable sauce. I ordered the steak fondue which was a filet and was rare to mid rare which I like. My boyfriend got a pasta bolognese dish and we couldn't stop stealing bites from each other's plates. But, that's what the initial scouting visit was for, and lesson learned. I got takeout yesterday for dinner, since it was a little too cold for my liking. I was in the mood for a nice dinner, nothing way too heavy, but nothing salad either that would only bore me while eating. The hostess was nice and welcoming on my arrival. I noticed how they open the front door for me right away. I asked for something for takeout, and someone was able to help me right away. I had every intention of getting the shrimp pasta dish with some crab bisque. But...I noticed they had duck. I love duck. Duck is relatively hard to come by for some reason, so duck it is for dinner! The only problem is it comes with rice and I hate rice. So I had this swapped out with cauliflower mash, which was no problem and they didn't charge me extra for the substitution. Whew. Dinner is saved! They were good at keeping me up to date as to when my to-go order was ready as I sat outside, which I really appreciate, and in no time at all, I was on my way home. The food was still nice and hot when I sat down for dinner. The duck itself was tender and delicious, and came with a side of this blackberry sauce, which was AMAZING as it was slightly sweet, with a bold, smoky flavor, and I relished in every bite of duck as I dipped it in the sauce. Normally, sides aren't much to write home about--especially if it's mixed vegetables. But THESE vegetables are really fresh and were a joy to eat as they were crunchy and full of flavor as if they were cooked and seasoned with butter, and I relished in them as much as I relished in the duck. I REALLY loved the cauli mash, and I'm glad I did ask the servers about substitution instead of simply bypassing the duck. Recently visited Michaels for our 25th wedding anniversary. Wanting to try something new. Michaels has a incredible menu selection. Whoever wrote there menu knew what they were doing. We were intrigued and set an reservation. The restaurant is small, unassuming and set in a cute shopping area. We arrived at a 530 and were seated immediately since there were no other patrons inside. I had seen a special mentioned on a small A Frame sign outside the door. Sesame encrusted grouper with a curry coconut sauce drizzled on top. Served over yellow rice with Chefs vegetables. I was hooked immediately. This description checked so many of my boxes I had to try it. This restaurant was nicely decorated and gives the appearance of being a nice upscale restaurant. Our server took our drink order and soon came back with some drinks. First I need to say that the restaurant had nobody else there from 530 when we arrived until 6. We were there to celebrate a huge milestone in our life and we had maybe a little expectation that at least our server would engage with us concerning why we were there. So I ordered a old fashioned with Woodford Reserve. She delivered a drink with a different bourbon without asking me first if that was ok. They were out of Woodford Reserve. To her credit she did offer to remix me a different drink if I wanted. My second issue was that even though there was no else there for the first 30 minutes of our visit our server spent the majority of her time talking with the hostess. I will only say that we probably would have ordered additional drinks and maybe a dessert if we had felt in some way connected with the staff instead of put in a corner by ourselves with little chit chat with the staff. Honestly we got a little bored. Now the food. Everything we ordered tasted good and did offer the sense that we were in high quality restaurant. We started with the calamari appetizer. It was perfectly cooked and honestly I could have eaten a slightly larger version of this and be just fine for my main entree. My grouper was soft and flaky. The rice was decently seasoned and the curry coconut sauce was pleasant. My only complaint on food was the dish could have used a little more of the sauce and the vegetables were a little on the raw side. Overall we enjoyed the dishes that we ordered. As stated before we were getting a little bored and decided not to have dessert. Our bill was $145 for two drinks one appetizer and two main dishes. . If we are looking for a place to celebrate some special occasion we might come back here again but only if we have friends with us so we can have some friendly conversation. read more

I visit this restaurant about once every three or four years, yet every time I think - why don't I come here more frequently? It is a bit expensive, but over the years, the food has been consistently great . Parking was easy as they are located in a strip mall with a huge parking lot. Reservations were effortless through Open Table. We were there on a Tuesday night, and while it was not crazy busy, business was very steady. They provide tables both indoors and outside. Our server was very pleasant and efficient. She offered, then brought out, fresh bread served with a lovely flavored butter. My friend and I both started with the she-crab soup. This is an absolute must-have. So creamy and delicious. The appetizer we ordered was the only thing I didn't love - it was fried brie, and instead of having the round wheel of brie come out with a light coating, it was served like four big fried cheese sticks. I did like the strawberry habanera sauce it was drizzled with. After hemming and hawing over what entrée to order, I finally went with our server's recommendation and had the Honey Bourbon Salmon which was outstanding. It was served over a roasted corn and spinach risotto which was wonderful, and full of flavor. Dessert is always the sticky toffee pudding, and it was fantastic as usual, served with luscious vanilla ice cream and dripping with caramel. Michael's Grill is a neighborhood bistro that has been open since the turn of the century, circa the year 2000. I cannot for the life of me tell you why it took me 21 years to make it through the front door, but I obviously have some making up to do. Nestled in one of Carrollwood's many strip shopping centers, Michaels offers outdoor dining as well as an indoor dining area. I was thinking that the restaurant should update their look, but my wife, who always has a better opinion than me, thought that everything was quaint and was as it should be. We did make reservations, but as it turned out they were not necessary. There was ample seating, even at 8 PM on a weekend night. I started my evening with an Apple Old Fashioned and the focaccia that was brought to our table as a starter. It was delicious, especially the herb butter! My wife is gluten-free, so the bread was all mine!! I ordered the Honey Bourbon Salmon. It was quite tasty, but the meat portions were small. The rice, however, was piled high. My wife ordered the Pork Diane. It was a seasoned well, and was quite flavorful. She commented that she didn't need any additional salt, which was monumental. The Veggies were also cooked to perfection. Being so close to our house, we will definitely be returning for another visit soon. It has been a while since I had gone to Michael's Grill. I went for a friend's 90th birthday party! The wait staff was incredible. We had four things to choose from on the menu: a Reuben sandwich, chicken pesto sandwich, chicken Caesar salad, and mahi fish, tacos. My husband and the host asked for sauerkraut for the Ruben and the waitresses made sure to have sauerkraut on the side (even though this was not part of this particular Reuben). Overall, it was a really nice place. Good food and service overall. It was a small-scale, cozy setting, which was nice for a new experience. However, I had the salmon with the risotto that I didn't care for. The mixture it was cooked in was not pleasing to me, and that's just my taste buds. I advised that I didn't like it, and the server brought me some steamed spinach, which was great with the salmon. Was looking to try some where I hadn't been before-menu looked good and it wasn't too far from where I live so decided to try it & I'm so glad I did. We sat outside and that really made the entire night because there was a small band playing and it just set a fantastic atmosphere. Emily was our server and she was very nice. We had crab cakes as the appetizer which I don't think I've ever had a whole crab cake before but this was super flavorful. For my meal I got the special which was blackened mahi mahi with a rum sauce and crab & pineapple salsa. I tried the crab topping thinking it would be warm but it was cold which was a surprise and I didn't think I cared for it! But when I ate it with the fish I enjoyed it a lot. The green beans and carrot were delicious and the rice and beans also very flavorful. My sister had a new entree, fettuccine with short ribs. It was a huge portion & she loved it. Although we were both full I really wanted to try the sticky toffee pudding so we split that & unfortunately left half because we were too full but OMG it was fabulous-next time we go & yes there will be a next time, we'll take our mom & split that dessert 3 ways!
